He noticed that the dirt was poking through in many places, and probably needed fertilizer. There was a dirty pond in the corner of the garden that he scented for a few moments, but quickly lost interest. There was an island in the middle, and while Jandar could likely swim to it if he desired, he thought it was an unpleasant idea. The hedges were tall; he could flutter over them if he chose, but why? The dandelions here were tasty to munch on. He made his way over to one of the only trees in the garden, sitting beneath its shade and munching on one of the wildflowers.
Aura kept an eye on him, but mainly researched in their book. After skimming the Kings of the Evergreen page, they sighed; they'd have to acquire some tree saplings that would never grow very large. Cailan had, by far, the largest of the cages. He'd need tree saplings...

A quick trip to the person who kept the gardens later, and they had enough pine saplings for the terrarium, along with some brush and specific types of bushes. Once those were set, it was ready for him; they just had to temperature control it. They moved it inside and against the wall where they intended it to stay, before returning back outside to continue with the next terrarium. The dragonoak was the next largest, and they glanced over at Jandar. He seemed content with the type of land that occurred here naturally; would that be all they needed? Aura filled the bottom with dirt while they contemplated this. At minimum, some grasses would be good. A couple small bushes, maybe. They could probably fit a small sapling in the corner...
While Aura interior decorated, Jandar moved on to the next munchable flower. He watched Aura out of the corner of his eye, in the meantime. What was their deal? They weren't forcing their company on him like so many human-types did.

(1 New month, start over, right?)
They'd taken a break from the garden while they got other things set up- the house, the new shop. They'd gotten deep into pachee, and ignored where they'd started to put their garden together. So, they were back in the hottest summer month, with fans a plenty set up inside the greenhouse. Oh sure, they had grown up in the desert, but it was the humidity they didn't know how to handle. The fans didn't even help much with that, and they knew they'd have to be careful about how much time they spent without checking on the status of their dark scales.
They brought a new creature with them this time, a strange little bird made of twigs and leaves that was supposedly called a brancheopter. They ended up just calling them Twyggy. The creature pecked around the grasses outside, at home in the sun, while they worked on finishing the cages inside. They were almost done; then, they could move in all of their garden pets and get them out of the kennel.

The dragonoak cage was already done; they'd finished it before moving onto the next. It was the brancheopter cage they'd moved onto now. They'd read the gardening book front to back and had an idea for it as well, and realized a terrarium wouldn't work for it. It didn't need climate control, and neither did the dragon oak. So, they repurposed the cage they'd meant for the dragonoak for the leafscatter(it gave her a few small trees to climb, kept her busy), and they worked on making a coop much like what they'd made for the pachee at the house. They'd need a heater for it for the winter, but Twyggy and Jandar would be fine sharing a place they could nest and still get good outside time.
Twyggy wandered around the untilled, unplanted fields, pecking at the ground. The grasses and seeds were so fresh, as were the worms and insects that came directly from inside... It was so much better than the kennel feed...
