What a wonderful day! The leaves are brown, and the spleens are... Diseased. Huh.

Victor started barking and leapt ahead even faster, practically pulling Fiera over to get at whatever he was barking at. She helped but couldn’t let go of the leash- if her only source of light ran off, she really would be screwed. Finally he slowed, pouncing on something ahead of them. Fiera was relieved, regaining her balance... before realizing that there was nothing good for Victor to be chewing on here. “Victor, no!” She cried, tugging on the leash, before remembering that he didn’t know that one. Of any other commands, for that matter. Oops. Still, she slowly reeled him in until she was standing right next to his head. He was definitely chewing on... something. Ew. With much disgust, she stuck her hand into Victor’s mouth to wrestle it away, but he growled at her and stood fast. “I’m not doing this to play, dude!” She groaned.

He kept pulling back though, growling playfully and shaking his head. Whatever he was holding was slippery though, and fell right out of his mouth when he did that. They both looked down, and Fiera managed to scramble and grab it first, holding it above her head so Victor couldn’t just leap up and grab it back. She tried to get a good look at it as her light source kept moving, with Victor making daring leaps at it in an attempt to reclaim it. One part of it was definitely a wax leaf, which she gently peeled off and pocketed. Victor didn’t seem to care about that part. The other part was... ugh. It was another one of those disgusting sluggy spleen things, she realized as it started to in her grasp, realizing that it was no longer in danger and gently hitting her with a single tendril.

Hadn’t one of these things been enough? She took a closer look at the spleen thing, turning it over in her hand, now that she had it and Victor was calming down. Ugh. Victor had really done a number on it- it was already bruising up from the damage, turning lumpy shades of purple and green, instead of the healthy red of the last one. She hoped it healed up soon- it looked way worse like this. She dropped her backpack, unzipping it quickly. She filed the wax leaf in with the others, hoping that the added slime wouldn’t stick them together. Then, she put the new spleen in a zipper sandwich bag before putting it next to its fellow. “There. Now you have a friend.” She said to the pair of them, which gently slid around in their plastic bags. Truly, the platonic ideal of true friendship.

Then she straightened back up, pulling and balancing her backpack on her shoulders once more. Victor took the cue from her getting settled and so took the lead once more, forging ahead. Fiera was happy to follow his lead, letting him drive them toward somewhere more interesting than this void. Though the more she thought about it, the more... different everything felt. It was a slight change, but she couldn’t quite place it. Was she getting... more tired? Or something. Then it hit her- they were on a slope! Finally, they were making their way back up to the surface! Fiera would be quite happy to see the sky again. Maybe the moon would even be out, perfectly full as it was when she came down there to start with. She could almost see it now. That must be where Victor was leading them- back up toward the surface.

Sure enough, it almost seemed lighter in here as well. Not enough that Fiera could actually see further, no- that would be too pleasant and easy. But it was like a weight was lifting, like the ceiling was laying quite so heavily on them anymore. Fiera was grateful for the change- it felt invigorating. Sure enough, she could actually see something in the distance after a few minutes. “Look, Victor!” She said, pointing at it. “Go go go!” He didn’t need to be told twice, rushing toward it. They both practically ran toward the... whatever it was, skipping across the stone floor. Soon, they came up to it. A door, looking almost like it was floating in the darkness. It was ornate and made of a familiar stone, but had light glowing around its aged edges. Fiera was relieved. It had no visible handle, so she leaned on it and pulled. Fiera 5 Victor 23.0/25.0 145

Snuffling in the dark of nearby shade, attempting to stalk the prey... A slinky shape wisps in and out of view. What is that thing? For now, it seems to think it is obscured. A moment passes, and the thing prepares to strike, much like a cat does, marching in place. Butt wriggling and all. Bright green eyes level on you, and a blue tongue slips out of the toothy maw. A pregnant pause. And it leaps out- phasing right through harmlessly! It stands there, looking a little surprised, and a little dumb in the middle of view.

The door didn’t move. It was stuck fast. “Oh come on...” Fiera grumbled, yanking harder. Just then however, she heard a growl rev up behind her. And it wasn’t Victor. Victor was certainly snarling now though, and Fiera whirled around to see at what. Sure enough, there in front of her was a ghostly... fox thing. It’s hackles were raised, a stare down between phantom and rakai. “Hey, Victor, no, no no.” She warned, but it was too late. The specter leapt forward, claws out... only to pass through Victor completely. The ghost, Victor, and Fiera all seemed a little stunned. “...huh.” Fiera said as it stood there, looking around with bewilderment. Well, if it couldn’t attack, but THOUGHT it could... maybe she could offer it something. She pulled Victor behind her and got out a meat treat, usually reserved for her pets. “Hey there.” She said quietly, holding it out. “You want this?”

The creature looked a bit stunned for a moment or two, enough that a good look of it could be taken, and then it twisted about quietly, looking at the thing it had attempted to leap through, and then tilted its head skeptically. It was an almost doglike thing to do, perhaps, in that instance. Afterward, it sniffed at the air (could it even smell? a bystander probably wouldn't be able to tell) in the direction of the treat. It made one step forward, hackles slicking back down, and then sniffed a bit more. It kept an eye on the other creature behind the one offering the... Thing? Smell thing. It looked more curious than upset now, and truly, it had only been playing. Perhaps if it had not been ghostly, that game would have been more dangerous than it was.

Fiera watched the little creature's reactions, as it twitched and looked around. Despite its ghostly appearance, it was quite the expressive beast. Its ears wiggled, its eyes changed expression, and its body twitched around like a real dog would. It was quite doglike, wasn't it? Soon though, it seemed to catch wind of the treat, perhaps carried by the faint breeze from the door. Fiera's rakai sarane didn't seem quite threatened by it anymore now that he knew it could hurt him, and instead Victor seemed frozen in a position that almost seemed playful, tail up and front paws apart. Fiera wrapped his leash a couple times around her hand though, just to be safe. She didn't want to scare the creature off. Instead, she started swinging her arm gently, not wanting to startle it, before throwing the meat- letting it land squarely between the two of them. It plopped on the ground- if it wanted a good sniff, the creature was more than welcome to take it.

Ah, the smelly thing was tossed down between them, and the creature was slightly hesitant to move forward at first. It wasn't anxiety, but a sort of calculativeness that wasn't as common among lone canid animals. After a moment or two's hesitation the being slipped forward as liquid as a pool of shadow perhaps; though more ghostly. It sniffs at the object, and then opens it's mouth FAR wider than any creature had a real right to have been able to do, displaying a bright blue flesh and gum. However, when it came time to clamp the jaws down on the flesh, it was unable to do so.
The jaws enclosed around nothing; going straight through the meat. A look of sorrow seems to grace it's face, but then it comes over to those there with it, sniffing at the ground around them. Perhaps they had something it could eat? Perhaps they would take it somewhere out of this place?
It was not yet quite convinced though...

Fiera watched the creature struggle with the chunk of meat, and felt a little bad for it. It clearly wanted to interact with the 'real' world, but... couldn't. There was a separation between its ethereal form and the physical world around it, preventing it from eating or interacting. But maybe Fiera had something it COULD eat? She could feel the wheels in her mind turning as she tried to think about what specters ate. It was made of fog stuff, so... other fog stuff? She leaned back on the door as it messed with the meat, only to feel it give way behind her. Oh. It was a push door this whole time. Woops. Still, the crack of light made it easier to see... and lit up a light bulb in Fiera's mind, too. She dug through her bag, and pulled out one of the little shadow beasties. It swirled around in its ball ominously, but was surrounded by a familiar looking fog. Fiera gently rolled it over, letting it stop a few feet from her. Fiera 8 Victor 23.3/25.3 148

The creature immediately looked excited, watching the individual search for something. It seemed to have some kind of understanding about the individual wanting to help? Or at least that was what it seemed to the creature. After a moment or two, something was produced, and the creature sniffed at it. Excitedly, it snapped out and tried to get at the fog, and it did seem like the fog was being effected! Nice!
After a moment or two, the creature was quite happy with the situation, and seemed pleased with the helpfulness of the individual. It excitedly settled down in front of the individual. Perhaps it would come with you now if you were interested in it coming with you?

Fiera watched as the strange creature snapped at the fog, yipping happily. She couldn’t help but smile at its playful antics, how it seemed overjoyed to finally have something that it could interact with. After a few moments though, it seemed to lose interest in the foggy pocket pet, and approached her. Something in the back of Fiera’s head was still nervous about this creature, but Victor seemed completely calm by now. Fiera trusted the rakai’s judgement, so she let it approach before it sat in front of her inquisitively. Silence hung in the air for a moment before Fiera broke the silence. “Do you... want to come with me?” She asked. The creature didn’t respond verbally but did respond with an impassioned wagging of its tail. Fiera smirked, pleased with its attitude. “Well alright then. Follow us- we DEFINITELY know where we’re going.” She said.

The creature seemed happy with that, and followed her around as she carried out her last chores in this area, such as collecting that fog orb she dropped for the creature. Then, she straightened back up and strutted back to the door, ready to face the mysteries beyond. She got ready to push on it- because she had DEFINITELY known that it was a push door this whole time. Her earlier efforts were... just a joke! Yes. She put the pressure on and the door swung open, letting the trio back out into the light. Thankfully, Fiera’s eyes didn’t need any time to adjust, as it was still night time out. Unfortunately, she didn’t like the sight that awaited her there. “Oh, you have to be KIDDING me.” She hissed. She was, somehow, back on the front steps of the mansion, the gate in front of her. “Well, fine. I know how to take a hint.” She huffed, and marched toward it. Besides, she wanted to show her new critter their home anyway.
