"Oh!" The receptionist exclaimed. Fiera leaned forward over the desk, trying to figure out what she was talking about. "We had a cancellation, how unfortunate... for them at least. You, on the other hand, are in luck!" Fiera smiled awkwardly. "How in luck?" "Well, the slot that opened up is in just half an hour!" Fiera breathed a sigh of relief- that wasn't nearly as long as she was fearing. "Perfect." She said, her voice tinged with relief. "How long will I have it for?" She follow up. "Half an hour," The receptionist replied. "The standard length. Will that be everything?" She said, smiling up at Fiera. She stammered. "Uh, yes! Perfect! That's fine." The receptionist hit some more buttons on whatever computer programs she was using, made some copies of Fiera's ID and paperwork, and handed it back. After that, Fiera was waved away and she just... went and sat down next to her orbaru. Huh. That wasn't nearly as painful as she was expecting. Jack-O-Lantern was sitting quietly, peering through the sides of the carrier and Roni was, at least for now, still asleep. Now all Fiera had left to do was wait for her turn, and she'd be home free.

Fiera gave the waiting room a second look over. Then, she realized... those glow worm orbaru were a lot more common than she thought. She had gotten hers from a concept, and thought it was a rare, exotic beast. For all she knew, it was before that contest, but now? There were at least three more hopping around the waiting room, pawing at their owners pants. Ah. Well, at least Fiera's actions were in fashion? Yes, she chose to have confidence about this. She highly doubted any of those orbarus mates were quite as attractive as Jack-O-Lantern, and she decided that their colors likely weren't as well matched either. Indeed, Roni and Jack's breeding was likely to come out better than anyone else here, and she had a berry to give them to boot! Everything was going to be just fine, Fiera thought. To entertain herself, Fiera took a magazine off of a nearby table, and opened it to a random page. Random news, random gossip about people she didn't know or actually care about. Delightful. And why not take even more of a load off- she lifted her legs and propped her feet up on top of her tower of orbaru carriers.

The minute Fiera's feet touched down on the top carrier (the one with Roni in it), she felt something shift. Crap. Crap. That was a mistake. She took her feet off immediately, and almost leapt to her feet. Please don't be awake, please PLEASE don't be awake... she checked Roni's carrier. Bright green eyes peered back at her. Oh, crap. She was awake. The carrier almost immediately clattered to the ground, Roni struggling wildly. Despite appearances, Fiera knew the orbaru wasn't afraid, just incredibly energetic. She scrambled for the carrier, quickly attractive a lot of attention from the others in the room. "It's fine, it's fine!" She reassured, a blush coming to her cheeks. "She just woke up with a start, that's all." She grabbed the handle on the vibrating carrier, and dragged it roughly into her lap. "Roni, cool it." She whispered harshly at the bars. Roni's face appeared at the front... and then immediately battered the bars with her front legs, appearing to be having a blast bouncing off the walls. Fiera glanced down. Jack-O-Lantern was looking up, but didn't appear immediately distressed. That was good at least. This wouldn't go well if Roni's mate... didn't want anything to do with her.

After a moment, Roni apparently calmed down, and Fiera looked into the cage again. Roni looked out at her, eyes wide, but with a facial expression that could only be called 'smug'. Yeah, laugh it up, you furry rat rabbit. Fiera knew she'd get the last laugh. Uh, probably. Somehow. Fiera was very, VERY good at doing things out of spite, but spiting an orbaru was a little beyond her wheelhouse. Somehow, someday though... she would get her back. For the time being though, she supposed this was as good a time as any to let the two get to know each other. Fiera set the carrier down, and slid it around until Roni and Jack-O-Lantern were facing each other. She was greeted by an immediate chorus of sniffing noises through the bars. Someone across the room cooed "Aww!" At the sight of them interacting. Fiera supposed it was kind of cute, but it was difficult for it not to be. Orbaru were awfully cute, after all. Roni stuck her little arm through the bars of the carrier, fingers spread wide, attempting to swipe at Jack-O-Lanterns face. "Hey, no!" She hissed, pushing the little arm back in. "Be nice, Roni!"

Roni squeaked at the intrusion, pushing at Fiera, but to no success. The humanish successfully got her to pull her arm back in, and whispered a quiet "No." at the glowworm orbaru. Roni looked at her, sour faced, and flicker her ear with irritation. Fiera leaned back... and Roni just stuck her other arm out and through the bars. Fiera huffed irritation. There was no taming that girl, was there. Jack-O-Lantern was still calm at least, and taking it in stride. In fact, he pushed his nose right up to the bars, sniffing at her further. Just to be safe though, Fiera moved their carriers a little further apart. She didn't need Jack accidentally getting injured because of Roni's over eager nature. Fiera would prefer they get to the (hopefully nice, safe, and padded) breeding room before letting the female orbaru loose on him. From there though, they seemed plenty happy to just sit there, sniffing at each other, with Jack offering her brief pulses of light. That was a good sign...right? Fiera was pretty sure that was a good sign. With that in mind, she went back to her magazine, letting the carriers shake and shimmy as they pleased.

The cages continued to rattle, but thankfully, that didn't seem too out of place here. There were plenty of orbaru, and things more bizarre, running around this place. A flock of pachee was led out of the hall to the breeding rooms- a single exhausted female, and three exciteable males. That must have been a sight to see. The idea of it was interesting though- multiple males could contribute to the appearance of a single offspring. Fiera had grabbed a pamphlet on her way in- apparently at one point, sarane breedings had been carried out here too. She had seen a sarane, and had recently purchased her own, a brown sarane of exceptional size and strength. Or, it would be. Algol was still a hatchling as of right now. The idea of sarane breedings here was hilarious to her- how did they ever fit in the door? Maybe that was why they had stopped- they were simply too huge to fit, and they had to shut it down for damages or for upgrades to the building. Apparently, only sarane that were doing really well in the tournaments were able to breed. By comparison, orbaru were the boring ones, with one male and female, able to breed at any time!

Fiera continued drifting through her thoughts for a while longer, watching Roni and Jack absent mindedly. It was almost soothing, just letting everything slide past her. Before she knew it though, a soft tone rang through the air. "Number thirty six?" The receptionist called. "Fiera?" She pronounced her name wrong, but Fiera was fine with that. She stood up suddenly- didn't want to lose her turn after all! "Yes! Yes I'm here!" She said. The receptionist stood up and pointed at the hall to the side. "Breeding room number five is open, you can go on in." Fiera said thank you and nodded a few times, and nearly stumbled over her own carrying crates. Finally! She strapped her purse on, and leaned down to pick them up. Jack-O-Lantern went easily as before. Roni on the other hand thrashed wildly, as if just to make Fiera mad. She sighed, and wrapped her arm around the carrier instead of holding it by the handle. By god, she WOULD make this work. Fiera nodded at the receptionist as she passed, who just seemed amused by Roni's antics. "Real energetic, huh?" She remarked. "More than you could know." Fiera replied, hoping her exhaustion came across.

Fiera opened the door to the breeding rooms. Thankfully, it was a push door with no handles, so it didn't take much effort for her to get it open. This place really was designed with breeders in mind. The hall was a little more artificial looking, but she supposed that a lot fewer people saw it. The tiles were all white, and the lights were fluorescent. The numbers on the door were still in a friendly, puffy font. Each door had a tiny window on it, giving a glimpse of the rooms beyond. She shuffled down the hall, trying too keep from dropping the carriers. Roni was certainly putting but a fight. She glanced at the doors as she went. Room one, room two... she kept on walking, and finally found room five at the end of the hall. "Finally," She sighed, putting the carriers down for a moment. The door was heavy, which made sense- didn't want pets being able to get out on their own. It swung open easily though, with nary a squeak to indicate it. She shuffled each carrier in with her foot, despite Roni's protests. She sighed with relief, and finally shut the door shut behind her.

The room was surprisingly... well, roomy. It was at least ten feet wide by twenty feet long, with a row of identical windows along the far side of the room. The windows were high up and well reinforced too. Fiera guessed it was for breedable creatures that packed more of a punch than others. The room itself was completely padded, with soft, pastel primary colors. The lights were bright and cheery, illuminating the objects below. There was a variety of toys and places for orbaru to play. On one end of the play area was a sandbox, filled with soft white sand and a couple of lumpy toys hidden in there for digging. Strewn across the main floor was a variety of jingly balls, colorful blocks, feathery toys, and soft stuffed animals for them to play with. And finally, on the far side, was a gigantic (relatively, it was about six feet tall) playhouse, shaped like a plastic printed castle. It was soft and inviting, with plenty of tunnels and rooms for the orbaru to play and...have privacy. Overall, Fiera couldn't think of a better place for the orbaru to get to know each other. It was, in a word, perfect.

She positioned both of the carriers in the middle of the room, kicking some toys out of the way. First, she opened Jack-O-Lantern's carrier. The ever patient orbaru carefully hopped out, sniffing the air. "Hey buddy. Thanks for being good to me." She said, stroking his head gently. He leaned into it before hopping a few feet away, watching Fiera (and Roni's carrying crate) intently. Next up then, was the terror of Fiera's kennel. Fiera very carefully grasped the clasp for the carrier, and Roni immediately rammed the door. "Dude." Fiera said flatly. Roni backed up a bit, and Fiera managed to swing the door the rest of the way open. Roni burst out like an explosion, launching across the room with her springy feet. She finally landed in the sand pit, lashing around wildly. "Oh, lovely." Fiera said. "That's gonna be great to clean off of you later. Just real fun." If Roni heard- or understood her- she showed no sign of it. Instead, the orbaru continued to roll around in the sand. Fiera stood up and sighed. Well, for the next half an hour, it wasn't her problem. Instead, she just swept up the carriers, now significantly lighter than before.

Along the wall nearest the door was a couple more chairs, also with a couple more magazines. A quick glance at them proved them to be standard fare- celebrity gossip and biopics with fancy photography. There wasn't much for global news- after all, there wasn't much of a connected globe. Still, the empty headed entertainment would give her something to do while she waited. Fiera was glad for that- she had some time, and she couldn't exactly help with what came next, she could only watch. Well. Hopefully not watch the whole time- with any luck they'd go to find some privacy. Without any company, she just tossed the carriers into the other chair, which they bounced into harmlessly. Was there ANYTHING in this room that wasn't padded? She flopped down on the other chair, bouncing lightly. At least they were comfy. She could easily take a nap in them, but decided against it. She didn't want anyone pounding on the door, letting her know that she was over time. She felt like she was missing something though... oh! The berry! She leaned over, rustling through her purse. She drew out the berry, shiny and opalescent, and turned it over in her hand.

She quickly tossed it underhand toward the main floor, and it landed in the middle of the two orbaru, surprising them. They both ran around the room in excitement, finally glad to stretch their legs. Fiera smiled- it had been a while since they had gotten the chance to walk around, hadn't it? They had both been shoved in a crate for over an hour now. The wide open range was a welcome change. Eventually they calmed down and sniffed at the berry. Jack-O-Lantern, the older and most experienced one, was the first to take a bite. The flesh was a soft pink, and even Fiera could admit that it looked pretty good. She didn't think that it would be a good idea for a humanish to eat one of those, however. Not one to be outdone, Roni rushed in on it and snapped off a bite. Her face screwed up for a second- was it sour? Before going in for another bite of the fruit. The continued like that, one after the other, until there was nothing but a sweet smelling pit left. After that, they finally seemed to realize the other was there, walkng around each other and sniffing.

That was good, they didn't seem to dislike each other. And oh, that was even better! They started licking each others faces, cleaning the juices of the breeding berry off of each others' fur. That was far better than she was expecting, even if Roni was a little overeager. She was practically grabbing Jack-O-Lanterns head, forcing it down while she cleaned his fur crest, forcing him to go for the juices caked around her jaw. Soon, he was practically pushed onto the ground, but seemed pretty ok with it. It was socialization and a form of 'play', it counted. Or at least, she hoped it did. Fiera grabbed a magazine, something about who was seen kissing who (fitting, given the circumstances) but didn't really read it. It was her first time seeing this sort of thing- she couldn't help but watch. It was best to get this experience in now, in case she got any more difficult pairings in the future that she had to make work. Soon, Roni was practically sitting on top of Jack... but launched away again, running around the room. "Roni, calm down already." Fiera groaned. "He can't... uh... seduce you if you don't hold still." She finished.

Eventually, Roni stoppped... and kept running. Stopped... and kept running, tearing around the room, start and stop, touch and go. What was she doing? Fiera was confused... until Jack-O-Lantern started running after her. Oh, they were playing tag. Or at least the orbaru equivalent of it. Soon they were racing around the room, launching themselves off of various structures. Fiera squeaked and held the magazine close as they even jumped across the table, scattering papers everywhere. A few seconds later, the carriers were sent flying as well. "Oh come on..." Fiera grumbled, collecting them back up. She stuck one under her chair, and one under the other. Hopefully that would be enough to keep these little brats from demolishing them again. She still needed to get them home, after all. She was about to stand up again, when she felt a sharp weight on her back. "Roni!" She shouted as the orbaru launched herself off of Fiera's back. Fiera rubbed it as Jack raced by after her. She sat down in the chair again, determined to keep her back away from them. She was... not as young as she used to be, she didn't need her own pets throwing out her back.

Fiera dragged the magazines forward with one foot, but they were already pretty messed up. Eventually however, the orbaru calmed down and started wrestling on the main floor. Fiera took that opportunity to get up again, even though she promised herself she wouldn't. She was keeping an eye on the pair, it would be fine. If they started moving again, she'd go back to the chair. She gathered up the magazines in her hands. Picture perfect faces were now crumpled and amusing to look at, perfect photos only partially defaced. She tapped them on the table a few times to try and even them up and set them back down. Yeah, those weren't in perfect condition anymore. She supposed that's why they got cheap magazines though- they had to be replaced frequently. Meanwhile, Roni and Jack-O-Lantern were having the time of their lives wrestling on the floor. Roni was on top most of the time, but Jack as putting up a good fight. They were a good pair, she supposed. Roni was gregarious and over exciteable, but Jack was laid back enough to accept that and get along. A more competitive creature would likely get upset, but Jack was willing to just go with the flow.
