Leafy had been putting off attempting it despite her love for questing. It had advocated that she should bring a pet that was capable of fighting and her only real option for that was Ciel. The quest asked for discretion and a Sarane was not particularly discreet, but Leafy figured they would make do. Skip had accompanied them despite being small and not skilled at fighting. The small creature was a trickster and she had no doubt that he was capable of creating a distraction. For safety, he would be kept close to her at all times. “Visiting this tower ought to be exciting. I’m sure there’s all sorts of neat stuff hidden within. And we’ll be fighting a real monster! I’ve always wanted to do that,” Leafy spoke aloud. It’s been a while since I’ve last fought Ciel commented through the ribbon of telepathy. Leafy startled for a moment, having forgotten what it was like to communicate through one. While Sarane weren’t particularly smart creatures, they were still capable of expressing their thoughts and feelings. Even if those thoughts tended to centre around food and fighting. Most creatures were like that. (Ciel 46 1/5, 39 1/5 | Skip 3 1/5, 9 1/5)

The Archmage’s tower was hidden away in a part of the city that Leafy had seldom been. She was not really one for magic. She had always supposed she would get around to it one day, but that was always in the distant future. Slinking through the city with Skip would have been discreet. Ciel on the other hand, stood out on account of her ferocious appearance and rarity. The closer they got to the tower, the less out of place Ciel seemed. Skip hid beneath the curtain of hair that fell across her neck. It was safer for him if he remained out of sight.
“It looks like we’re almost there,” she whispered to her pets as the tower came into view.
The tower itself stretched well above the city. Her destination for this task lied in the basement of the building. Skip chattered excitedly in her ear as the crowd around the tower came into view. There was lots of activity around the tower, almost as though they were preparing for something.
I do not like all of these people, Ciel commented through the telepathic bond.
Leafy agreed, if only for the fact that the crowd of people would make it much more difficult to slip in unnoticed.

Leafy observed the gathering of people for a short while. They were clothed strangely, with raised hoods and long robes. Their hidden faces made her feel a bit uneasy, but her business was not with the odd cluster of people. Ciel appeared on edge as well and Leafy reached over and stroked her neck with her right hand in an attempt to calm the Sarane down. Before she could linger for long, a voice sounded from behind the group.
“I assume you’re here because of the quest I posted,” a soft, whispery voice called out to her.
She nodded, impressed that the person had picked up on that fact so quickly.
“I have brought my trusty Sarane, Ciel to take care of your little problem,” she told him.
“You’re a touch young to be handling a Sarane aren’t you?” the man did a once over of her before continuing. “I suppose it doesn’t matter much. If you can get the job done, there will be a reward for you all the same.”
Skip poked his head out from his hiding place long enough to greet the man before retreating back into the safety of Leafy’s hood.
“He’s mostly just along for companionship,” she explained. “Ciel is more than capable of handling this.”

“Well you are both certainly welcome to try. Though it might be more difficult than you’re expecting,” the archmage’s apprentice warned her.
Leafy felt a mixture of anger and determination thrum through her body. This was certainly not the first monster she would have face before.
“I don’t know if you remember those monsters that escaped from the Trepuldra section of the labs, but I managed to tame one of the beasts. That was the purple one, the one called the Punirustum,” she explained eagerly. “Trust me when I say I can do this!”
The archmage’s eyebrows arched, but he hid his surprise rather well. Leafy felt herself relax, feeling less defensive about the situation. If she could tame this monster too, she would be well on her way to gaining a reputation for monster hunting. The man let out a low, exacerbated sigh and ushered her away from the crowd.
“We don’t want them seeing where we’re going, this is meant to be discreet after all,” he explained.
Leafy gestured for Ciel to follow as the archmage’s apprentice led them away from the crowd and around the base of the tower. Skip clung to the girl as she walked, his large eyes bright as he observed carefully from his hiding place.
