Before they got there, another lightning strike crackled through the air, this time producing one of the loudest thunderclaps that Renathan had probably heard while still being outside. Normally Renathan would never be outside during a thunderstorm, but he was already mostly here by the time this one started, and he was trying to get to shelter after all. He shuddered, not really afraid of thunder, but it was so loud, and he was outside, it really sucked. Leo was worried about it for sure, freaking out quite absolutely, hopping around in the crate worriedly. Thankfully, Rafet was less worried, but still let forth a bright 'boop' of fear. Renathan took off running at that, knowing that they were so close to the breeding center that he ought to be able to make it quite easily without rattling them any further. With enough work, Renathan was able to get to the door, and place his palm on it, in a panicky manner. Another lightning strike lit up the sky, throwing a loud booming thunderous roar. Renathan shuddered, Leo freaked out, and Rafet let loose another worried noise. Renathan placed his palm on the doorknob, and pulled, nearly stumbling into the building. Thank the spirits, they were here.

Cue a soaked, miserable looking, hard-breathing russet dual-tailed mammalian standing in the doorway of the breeding center with his paw pads producing puddles on the sterile white linoleum. The individual at the front counter frowned at him, obviously annoyed at him, and Renathan flashed a worried smile beneath the mask, knowing that it wouldn't be seen. That was probably a good thing, in fact. He gently shook himself off and shuddered in the sudden cold, he frowned as he did so. He immediately looked down and checked both of the orbaru; neither of them were wet, thankfully, but they were indeed very nervous, both of them. Leo was practically cowering in the back corner, shuddering, while Rafet was mostly just annoyed looking. Renathan frowned again at this, knowing that this might cause issues in the long run with what he was wanting to do today. Leo was so nervous and distraught that he may not actually breed or anything. Renathan could almost have face-palmed. Why did this happen so often? The last time it had been the extreme heat, and today it was this freak thunderstorm. Renathan sighed, hopefully the breeding center would be understanding of his plight and not worse frustrated with him.

Renathan nearly slipped and fell as he moved forward, prompting one of the breeding center helpers to run over with a towel (where had they gotten the towel from so quickly though?) and then rushed it over, toweling him off pretty quickly, more quickly than he could have managed to tell them to knock it off since he didn't like being touched much, and then they tossed the towel on the floor. Oh, that made sense, they were trying to keep an accident from happening. Renathan was a little shocked and dazed himself, now that he thought about it, and he wasn't exactly sure why he hadn't noticed it. It must have been the wet and then subsequent cold that he forced him into inaction a bit more than it would normally have happened. The breeding helper grabbed him by the arm, or at least it felt that shocking, they were probably being very gentle, and he was lead to a seat to sit in. Renathan wasn't really thinking about what was going on around him very much. His orbaru crates were placed down gently on the floor, and one of the other breeding center helpers moved over to his creatures and glanced down into the critter crates.

Leo was removed from his critter crate first, since he looked to be in a bit more of a troubling mental state than the other one, for sure. Renathan watched as the breeding center helper toweled him off carefully, and cuddled him, and then he reached out, and took him, himself. The poor critter. It wasn't nearly as bad as the heat stroke that nearly occurred in his orbaru the other day. Perhaps he would need to find a way to know what the weather was going to be in the future? He'd had pretty bad luck the last two breedings, after all. Renathan put his head on Leo's gently, petting him carefully. "Shh, shh, you're a good boy Leo, good boy." Renathan mumbled, petting him across his back. Not long afterward, one of the breeding center helpers opened up the other critter crate, carefully, and removed the female, his beloved Rafet. She was just fine, warm and toasty, looking a bit incredulously at the male. She'd known that he was there the whole time, but he hadn't really noticed her it would seem. How sad, it would seem, since Renathan was really wanting them to breed today if at all possible.

Renathan was finally beginning to notice the things around him, now. The female was cuddled up in a towel as well, and then placed on his lap. Renathan looked around; two breeding center helpers were sitting next to him, one on either side. Renathan couldn't see anyone else sitting the waiting room at all; which couldn't be right, right? Renathan hadn't seen this place empty since breeding had returned, save for the morning when he got there before the place even opened in the morning. Renathan breathed out through his mask quietly, closing his eyes for a moment. Was he dreaming? Had they gotten struck by lightning earlier? Renathan wasn't feeling to good lately, of course he was still feeling funky about the entire pit situation. He was definitely in shock right now, just has he had been after the pit battle. But why would that be? Renathan was feeling quite a bit anxious, as he slowly began coming back mentally. He found himself cuddling both of his orbaru, both finally quite dry, as he sat in a chair in the waiting room, with only the breeding center helpers near him. One of them smiled at him as he began being more 'present'.

He nodded to them, and began answering questions of course. He was quite fine, just surprised from the lightning strike perhaps. The orbaru were fine, with Leo recovering more and more by the second since he was both being cuddled and near a female that was ready for breeding, as well as being inside and away from the loud lightning strikes. Yes, they were going to be fine. Renathan was slowly drifting back down to earth mentally, feeling quite a bit better now. He answered all of the questions, and then sat there for a moment in the blanket provided to him, in order to keep the orbaru close to him while they all completely recovered. Apparently the reason why not many people were here was because the thunderstorm had kept anyone with sense to keep from coming in today. Renathan just never listened to the radio, so he had no idea that it was coming, he figured that a quick shower would be the worst that they would get. However, the breeding center was still open, and the folks were happy to help him make sure that the orbaru were doing quite okay. He would be allowed a breeding room whenever the orbaru felt like it.

Renathan was just happy that they were here, and out of the way from the storm. It raged on around the building, and Renathan shuddered in the cold even beneath the blanket. He was a bit surprised to see how today had turned out for him. He hadn't really expected to get this far after the rain had started, since it was so dang heavy, but he'd pushed himself to the point of getting here anyway. At least Leo and Rafet were fine. Rafet would probably be fine no matter what, since her personality tended to be on the laid back side, despite being super focused and quite cunning. Leo, on the other hand, was almost inconsolable if not for the cuddling and making sure that he knew that another orbaru was here. He still wanted Mau, not this female, but he would make do. Orbaru tended to be that way to a degree, and Leo was no exception. They were not as dumb as most people assumed, but they were pretty simple when it came to them. About as simple as a wiurn, Renathan reminded himself. They weren't super intelligent either, all instinct driven. Orbaru were the same, just herbivorous.

Herbivorous for the most part, and easily the most prolific breeders in the entire labs-city. Renathan chuckled to himself when he thought about this, and gently he placed his palm to his forehead, or at least that of the clean porcelain of his mask. He sighed, he blinked, he tried to think about anything but his brain felt a bit foggy. There was just so much going on and he really needed to get his head together to finish this off. There was other things that he needed to do today, and he couldn't just sit here and feel bad for himself for a long time. This pair needed to breed, and he needed to get home. That was it, that was what he needed to do. His mind was racing in circles a bit, and it only stopped for a moment for him to breed when Rafet reached up and licked the bottom of his chin underneath the mask. Renathan shook his head, and looked down at her, automatically feeling a bit parental. "Are you doing okay, little one?" Renathan asked her, already knowing the answer. He gently patted her on her golden-blond head marking, happy to not have to think about anything at that second.

Renathan chuckled a bit, and then nestled his chin into the top of Rafet's head ever so gently. He carefully petted her ears and then her head again. "Of course you are doing okay, you are always doing okay, little Rafet." He murmured. Rafet; name meaning 'rabbit' in his tongue, was quite the cutey, and really did look like the rabbit-like creatures of his homeland. They had dark bands around their waists and ear-markings that she didn't really have, but hey, she looked a lot like them anyway. At this moment, Leo finally poked his little nose out from the blanket that was thrown around the three. "Hey there little Leo. How are you doing buddy?" Renathan asked, murmuring to himself again. He glanced around quickly, and realized that the breeding center helpers had went over and back to doing whatever they were doing before Renathan had bumbled into here soaked and wet and shaking in the cold from being dowsed by a thunderstorm. Renathan chuckled softly, and then looked back down at Leo again. "We're waiting on you, little Leo. You ready to get this show on the road?" He asked, gently taking a hand off of Rafet to pet him instead.

Leo seemed to enjoy being petted quiet a bit, as Renathan gently smoothed over his curly ears, pet down his tail where he most liked it, and then gently play with his paws a bit. So far, he was too shy to pester Rafet, but they sat together quietly. Renathan knew that he would probably pester Rafet relatively soon, and he would have to get the berries to them before that happened. Perhaps because of how well today was going, Renathan was just going to have to chock up his bad luck to a momentary lapse. So far, he was still able to breed his pairs each time something bad had happened. That had to be rather good luck, right? Renathan really needed to get himself together a bit, so that this bad luck stuff would stop happening... Perhaps soon he would go back to the mines? He'd had some bad stuff going on in the mines previously, but he was starting to get used to going back down there, but always with Sarabi. Perhaps he could continue doing breedings as well, for orbaru, as long as he started becoming more ready for it, instead of getting smacked around by the weather like he had recently.

Renathan finally got up, sitting both of the orbaru on the floor. He knew that they should be fine, and if they played then it wouldn't hurt none. There were not any more orbaru in the place anyway, since everyone else had cleared out before the storm, so he knew that they wouldn't bother anyone else or their orbaru right now. Renathan gently patted the two on their heads before going over to walk to the breeding center's front desk. He still had to do the paperwork, even if there wasn't anyone here. It was important for the breeding center to be able to keep up with who was breeding what orbaru when. That way the creatures were still safe and taken care of. So Renathan steps up to the breeding center help desk and thanked them a ton for helping him and his two orbaru today. The breeding center really was a great place for this, Renathan wasn't feeling all that great today it would seem. They were of course a bit dismissive, stating that it was the job of the breeding center to make sure that the creatures were in good breeding order before Renathan was allowed back but he was still thankful.

Still, Renathan needed to get his paperwork done, and it was sent over to him. He picked up a pen and began scrawling in common, using his kind of messy, loopy script. After he was done filling out his name, the orbaru's names, and their direct parentage one generation back for purposes of knowing which ones they were since lots of orbaru shared names and such. After a bit of work there, Renathan passed it on over the desk and stood there for a minute. He felt like he was forgetting something, but he couldn't quite remember what it was that he was forgetting? He felt like there was something else he needed to do before taking the orbaru back... His answer came from the breeding center helper, who was looking very sad for him, that told him he'd already bred three orbaru pairs this month and they couldn't permit him to breed another pair due to 'orbaru mill' related issues that they have had in the past. Renathan's mouth formed an 'o' as he remembered suddenly, and he dug around in a pouch, pulling out finally the tiny breeding center charm. He showed it across the desk, and the breeding center helper understood suddenly.

The breeding center helper hadn't seen one of these before, or so they said, but they did know what they were for. Renathan was basically to be trusted, and allowed to have a single extra breeding a month for as long as he had this thing. He was reminded of it by the breeding center helper, and then he was sent on his way, to go get his pair of orbaru. Renathan gently picked up both creatures, holding them with one in each arm, but left the creature carriers in the lobby. No one was expected to be coming here today, not really even Renathan earlier, so Renathan wasn't worried about them getting in the way or someone stealing them or something. They were cheap anyway, only good for keeping the critters in them for small amounts of time to go to vet or breeding appointments that Renathan tended to go to with his orbaru often. As Renathan had found out this last time with his previous breeding; they also weren't really good for v1 orbaru either, and their smaller, more slender arms that could get caught in the open grates that acted as the doors for the front of the critter carriers.

Renathan had thought previously that there wasn't anything else that he could have learned from orbaru that he did not already know as a seasoned breeder, and just this month he had learned a ton from all of his pairings. His first one showed him that orbaru remembered which orbaru they had bred with before; and that they would be more willing to breed with the ones they had bred with before or had prior relationships with. His second breeding had taught him that orbaru could be at least a little aggressive, and that he needed to make sure that his breeding stock were healthy mentally before breeding them. His third pair had taught him that v1 orbaru had different needs than other orbaru of different versions and breeds, and that he needed to change up his way of bringing orbaru to the breeding center. This last breeding had taught him a bit about the personality differences in orbaru, more about an orbaru's social situation, and of course that he needed to learn more about orbaru as he kept working with the creatures. Renathan couldn't believe that he'd had done so much learning, as he slowly went toward the back with his pair.

The three were lead to the back where a breeding room had been prepared for when they were ready, and as soon as Renathan got to the door and put his palm on the doorknob, he shifted the female Rafet away from Leo. He knew that they would probably breed pretty quick, and he needed to feed the female the berries he had today. He opened the door with a bit of difficulty and then placed Leo down carefully. He still seemed a little upset that he was away from Mau, but Renathan knew that they didn't have much longer today before the pair could be reunited. Renathan did love them a lot, and he hated having to separate the two males so that they could do breedings, even if they were willing to do so. Leo looked up at the female carefully, knowing what he was needing to do, but Renathan sat down with her after shutting the door behind him, making sure to get her situated before pulling the pouch from around his neck with the two berries in it. He made sure that the female got both of them, and she finished them pretty quickly. Now they were just about ready.
