"I couldn't help overhearing that this is your first orbaru?" He nods. Tales nods, stroking her whiskers. They aren't long whiskers, but they are there. Visible even. "Okay. So what you have in your lap there is called a silky orbaru. Nice thick fur, probably the nicest looking of the orbaru choices out there. Very popular with collectors. They do not swim well at all. So keep her out of any pools of water, unless you want to be performing a regular rescue." She retrieves a few brochures (and one is in ssakash, incredibly enough) while explaining. "Orbaru most times these days are 'version three'. They have some instinct to fight back if needed, instead of the older orbaru which were... very play oriented. Didn't want to fight at all. If you ever get the desire to breed your female, go to Nature's Bounty. The keeper there sells berries and juices. Sort of how pachee work. Follow?" Nod. He knew what a pachee was, and where to breed them. Didn't know of the berries and such. 28

"Orbaru typically eat berries, fruits, grasses and maybe vegetables. I've heard of some of the more obscure breeds have sharper teeth and more carnivorous tendencies." Flare's eye ridges raised briefly with this information. Carnivorous rabbits? "Um... let me think. Oh. They are like rabbits, so they need regular things to chew on to keep their teeth at a manageable length. If you have wooden anything in your home, I highly recommend you teach her not to eat them as soon as possible." "How" he asks. "Um. Reward her when she stops eating it, have a way to get her attention? Like a treat or a toy or something. Maybe teach her name first." She giggles at his pinched lemon expression. Its hard to do so with a muzzle of teeth. "I know, I know, but she'll need to be called something. Can't keep calling her Bunny or something." More pinched expression. Much too feminine sounding. 29

"Ffafferrr saees ffulls earrrs. How stoff." Flare asks her. She repeats his question without sound twice with a confused expression. "OH. Oh my, an ear puller. Hm. Do you have any other creatures with long ears in your home?" head shake of no. "Perhaps using some liquid on their ears that smells and tastes bad to orbaru to dissuade her from pulling on them. Her paws will stink and she may find it enough to stop. I'm just guessing though; ear pulling, thats a first I've heard. Granted, I did hear of a breeder who tried linebreeding for markings and the father had some passed down behavioral tendencies. She might have inheritance through genes, but I believe you can teach her not to pull ears, or any other appendages." Flare had a mental image of the sleeping bu relentlessly pulling tails on the pachee. That might turn into an all out war. "If there's anything else you'd like to know.... um, here's our card. Ask for Tales." she passes him a card with squiggles on it. Great. Flare nods in thanks. She brings him a cardboard carrier for the orbaru, assist him with getting the crutch and the carrier situated, and sends him on the way home. "Joleyne covered the cost, and she said thank you for helping her find the colony." He did something right after all. 30 ^ end 7.20
