Finding an injured Orbaru should have been a simple enough task. From experience however, she knew the stray Orbaru that hung around the city were tricky to catch. Strays tended to be skittish of people and one needed to feed them lots of food before they would even consider sticking around close to humans. She had brought along Camo, a juvenile Vulticus to help her with her search. She hoped his playful, puppy nature would make him eager to track down an Orbaru to play with. There was some risk that he might agitate the stray Orbaru’s injury, but Leafy was prepared to step in before that could happen. “Alright, we can start close to the quest board, considering that’s where they tend to gather the most,” she commented. Camo was just happy to be out of the kennel for once. He bounded along happily as the two made their way over to the quest board. (Camo 0 1/5, 10 1/5)

She could immediately see a cluster of Orbaru gathered near the base of the board. They stared wide-eyed at the humans that passed by. Camo’s tail started to wag as excitement filled his body. He began to playfully bounce up and down as he decided which Orbaru to play with first. Leafy wasn’t too worried about them getting hurt, as long as it wasn’t the injured one, the Orbaru could dart out of the way long before Camo would reach them.
“Okay, now to find the injured one before it can agitate its injury too much,” she murmured aloud.
She made sure to position herself in the shade in order to see better. If she remembered right, the stray Orbaru she needed to find was a female. She could ignore all the male ones in that case. It’s blue eye was also positioned differently, which was another thing to watch out for.

It was rather difficult to separate the males from the females when they were moving so quickly. She instead settled for trying to spot the one that was moving the slowest. Camo’s attention had focused on a young, male Orbaru. The Orbaru had a scar on its right ear and it seemed just as eager to play as Camo was. Leafy smiled, watching for a moment before continuing to hunt down the injured Orbaru. It would help to have Camo distracted. She could take her time scanning over the rest of the Orbaru and look for the one that was moving slower than the others.
“That one looks like a candidate, but it could have an injury different to the one I’m looking for,” she mused.
She couldn’t see the face of the female, potentially injured, Orbaru. That meant she’d need to get in closer and try to see it from a different angle.

Leafy had practiced stealth enough that she felt confident that she could sneak up on a couple of Orbaru. She kept one eye on Camo as she narrowed in on the Orbaru. Its back was still turned to her, so she was unable to identify it as the one she was looking for. She veered to the left, trying not to make any obvious movements. It was difficult moving both quickly and stealthily, but she managed to creep around the Orbaru’s left with ease. Just as she was about close enough to check the Orbaru’s eyes, it zipped to the right and disappeared underneath a pile of discarded boxes.
“Ah, this is going to be trickier than I though,” she remarked.
Camo barked once as though responding to her, but a quick glance over at him confirmed that he was barking at the one Orbaru that was willing to play with him.

Leafy approached the boxes. If the Orbaru was the injured one, it would prefer to stay sheltered within the protection of the boxes rather than continuing to run around and agitate its injury. She tried to keep herself slow-moving and non-threatening.
“I’m not going to hurt you,” she kept her voice calm and soft.
The boxes moved slightly and Leafy kept herself still as the Orbaru inside contemplated its next move. Before she could do anything more, Camo and the male Orbaru drew closer and accidentally tumbled into the boxes. Leafy moved to separate the two, making sure that neither of them was hurt. In the sudden confusion, the female stray Orbaru took the chance to make her escape from the boxes. By the time Leafy realized she had gone, it was too late to tell which direction she had headed in. She would need to consult Camo for help.

She hadn’t taught Camo how to track, but she hoped that the Vulticus’s desire to play would cause him to seek out the Orbaru anyways. She watched him for a moment, leaning close to give him a quick scratch behind the ears. The stray male Orbaru stuck close by, not wanting his playmate to leave just yet. Perhaps that stray would be able to help them look as well. Another Orbaru would know the best places for an injured one to hide. But Orbaru weren’t exactly known for their wits and asking him to do that for her would be quite tricky. She would likely need to track it herself and the creatures may or may not help her.
“If you guys continue playing, it might do something to help,” she commented.
She wasn’t exactly sure how much it would help, but it could entice the female Orbaru into playing. For now, Leafy would focus on figuring out where it had gone.

Where had it gone? Had the orbaru run far away, or was it watching from close by? Only time would tell, but on a leg like that, it couldn't have gone too far, surely. Hopefully there weren't too many injured feral orbaru around these parts...

She could start by checking for tracks, that tended to be the most efficient way to follow a creature. She hoped desperately that this was the Orbaru she was looking for as otherwise, she’d have wasted a lot of time following this one. It was difficult to make out much in the cobblestone of the city streets, but nearby, there was a puddle of water that the Orbaru had stepped in. The wet tracks against the stone would be easy enough to follow until the stray’s feet had dried. At least now she had a direction to head in.
“Camo!” she called his name. The Vulticus looked up at her and trotted forward.
He glanced back at the stray male and barked with delight once the Orbaru followed them as well. If only it was that easy to find the female one. She smiled at the sight before following the Orbaru tracks.

Following Orbaru tracks seemed like it should be easy, but in practice it was a lot trickier. Orbaru got distracted easily and once the female’s feet were dry, her task felt near impossible. She needed to think more like an Orbaru, trying to guess what kind of things would catch its attention. She glanced over at the male stray, trying to gage what sort of things it like. Mostly it seemed to be interested in Camo.
“Camo, over here!” she called out, trying to attract the attention of both pets.
The male stray followed Camo as he bounded over. Leafy watched them now, waiting to see what the male Orbaru would do. The stray male booped at her for a moment before his attention was grabbed by the sweet scent of baked goods. Perhaps the female had gotten hungry and headed in the direction of the bakery. That seemed like a strong possibility.

Leafy wasn’t well acquainted with the bakery. She didn’t spend all that much time in the city when it came down to it. She mostly just stopped by to visit the more exotic stores. Camo followed as the girl approached the bakery. It was doubtful that the Orbaru would have gone inside, but it might still be around, rummaging through some trashcans or something. She paused for a moment and listened intently. When she heard the crash of metal against stone, she raced in that direction. The lid of a trashcan had been discarded and a small shape moved inside the bin. Leafy felt her heartrate accelerate in anticipation of a chase, but an Orbaru shouldn’t warrant such a reaction. She was bound to be letdown. Camo let out a low growl at the noise and Leafy turned to hush him. She casually crept closer and peered into the opening of the trashcan.

The shape inside the trashcan was certainly an Orbaru. It was too dark to distinguish any of the markings enough for her to tell if it was indeed one of the strays. She would need to get it out into the light if she were to confirm anything for certain.
“Camo stick close, but don’t attack!” she told him.
Camo lay down and rested his nose against his paws. The stray male Orbaru settled down beside him. The two of them were becoming fast friends, which Leafy was happy to see. She would need to keep an eye out for the male if it was ever caught and made available at the quest shop. She grasped the edges of the trashcan, trying to hold it still. The shape inside froze and she hoped that she hadn’t scared it too badly. She carried the trashcan into the sunlight in order to see the markings on the creature inside.

She struggled slightly to get the trashcan into the sunlight. The Orbaru had begun squirming again which made it difficult to carry the trashcan. She set it down into the sun, keeping a tight grip on the metal sides. Camo and the male stray followed, curious to find out what she was carrying. The inside of the trashcan was filled with an assortment of day-old treats. They would still be edible, but too old for the bakery to feel comfortable selling. They were also now tainted by the inside of the trashcan, but Leafy didn’t think that would prevent her from eating them. Instead, she couldn’t eat them since they were the only thing distracting the Orbaru that was captured within the trashcan.
“Alright, from the markings, this looks like a stray.”
The unfortunate part was that the female Orbaru had shut her eyes in order to shield them from the sunlight. Leafy couldn’t tell if it was the right one.

The trashcan rattled as the Orbaru inside struggled to get out. Leafy frowned, trying to figure out how she could get the Orbaru to open its eyes. The small creature gripped a discarded donut in its paws. It licked the icing from the top of the treat, booping happily as it consumed the tasty treat. Leafy felt annoyance fill her chest, but she took a deep breath to calm herself. She needed to keep the Orbaru trapped inside the trashcan. Otherwise, it might run away and hurt itself.
“How can I get it top open its eyes?” she questioned.
She glanced down at Camo who was snapping his jaws at the trashcan, trying to break it free from Leafy’s grasp. He had smelled the delicious treats as well and desperately wanted to get to them. The Orbaru inside booped angrily, she turned to face the Vulticus, waving the donut angrily in his direction.
