It had been stated that Cake was unlikely to settle down enough to eat outside of her crate, so Lethalia took the quiet moment to stick the special baby berry into the orbaru's cage - carefully though the bars, instead of risking opening the door just yet. The satyr had gathered a handful of fruits from her front yard for the pachee on her way over - raspberries and strawberries and pineberries, bushels of the things growing semi-wild on her land that even she couldn't manage to kill off. It felt like a suitable offering, something for a 'special' occasion - even if this might not be particularly special for orbaru, but still. It was one thing the satyr was never quite sure of, if it mattered when the critters ate their special berries. The special effects of the sweets definitely took root in the previous breedings, so it likely didn't matter much when they were consumed as much as the fact that they were. One could only assume that making babies took a lot of energy, whether or not their methods were 'cute'. But they would all need extra nutrition for it no mater what, right? Or maybe they were more robust than some creatures when it came to reproduction, considering how prolific the critters could be. breeding| 15

Cake was still displeased at the idea of her continued capture, and pouted over it suitably. Food, even though she liked the sweet stuff, meant she was going to be in here a while yet. These couldn't compare to the taste of freedom to go run and play and do stuff! It was all so unfair! There were so many other sight and smells to be explored at this place, a novelty to be excavated for something for her own entertainment. It was how things worked. Especially when the entire room was filled with the calls of other orbaru, it meant she was missing out on the opportunity to find a playmate, and that was no good at all. At least Orbaru ate berries in a more mundane way than the pachee; Lethalia was almost startled for a moment to remember the creatures did indeed have a mouth once Cake gave in and started to eat. It definitely made them a little bit cuter. Eating out of their little root-paws was enough of a part of the critters being their semi-botanical selves, but she couldn't help but find it just slightly unsettling. The more firmly mammalian (or reptilian, if she was being honest) creatures were easily more palpable to her. breeding| 16

"D'you want any, pretty boy?" Lethalia questioned, noticing Mochi's curious blue eyes. Hard to tell if he was jealous of the female next to him getting more attention than his gorgeous self, or if he was actually becoming aware of Cake just a few feet over. Holding out a white pineberry for him, the satyr had to muffle her crooning over how cute he was in gingerly reaching out for the berry. "Look, it's even white an' won't stain your pretty fur!" It wasn't with the expectation of understanding that she said it, but talking way too much to any creature is a tick of hers. Habit formed from years at the Caravan, oddly enough - she had her own names for each pack beast that didn't have one from their owners, each outrunner's mount, even the battle beasts that nobody else would approach. As she grew older, all of the creatures garnered a tolerance if not a liking to her, the girl with a gentle touch who would spend her days winding around the legs of beasts she wasn't technically supposed to, often with pilfered fruit and grains for treats. Obtaining her own beasts only saw the habit of speaking with them continue, and she still found herself chatting with mute conversationalists on the city streets. People could think her mad, that was fine. breeding| 17

Coming out of her nostalgic reverie before she started thinking of all the packbeats she wished she could have saved, the satyr put that idea away for another day. Too much time could be spend thinking of the faraway critters, especially when even Lethalia's pragmatic enough to know she couldn't have made away with more than she had. It was the sort of thing that weighed on the soul, especially one as sympathetic as hers. Eyes re-focusing, the satyr found her smile once more upon seeing Mochi giving his pineberry an experimental nibble. She wasn't sure if others would grow the berries around here, but she loved them. Near exotic looking, the fruit took on a bright white flesh, while otherwise shaped exactly like a strawberry. Most types were studded with bright red seeds, but Lethalia always thought it would be fun to see if others could breed the fruit in a variety of colors. Someone with more of a green thumb than herself, of course. Mochi didn't seem all too sure about the strange food proffered to him, but took the most delicate of nibbles off the corner - she had to put a hand over her mouth to stifle her giggling. Oh, what a pair these two were going to make! breeding| 18

Ever so slowly, the crowd around her cycled out - there was no way of saying the room ever truly cleared out. Every person with a pair of orbaru who got up once they finally got their room was replaced by another person with the same intent. At least it meant things were moving, and in hopes she wasn't going to have to wait much longer - those were the people immediately in front of her in line that were getting called back? "Soon, I think," she informed Cake, as though it was some classified information. Little miss brimming-with-energy had been placated thus far with Lethalia feeding her bits of berries through the bars, sometimes making a game of it and making Cake chase it around the different air holes and bars of the carrier, just to give the little female something to do. Mochi had began to look up with more and more curiosity than he'd shown anything else thus far. Especially when she really reached with an eager little paw, and ended up grappling the bars to his cage below the opening of hers. They weren't able to look directly at one another just yet, but maybe this would help the slightly frigid male warm up some beforehand. breeding| 19

There wasn't even a realization that she had zoned out pretty hard, just spacing out and interacting with the orbaru as she could. Cake was wearing her out already, and they weren't even in their actual room yet! The satyr resurfaced as she heard her number being called, slightly aggravated and with a louder tone of voice over the speakers, as if it wasn't the first time it had been called out. Swearing a little at the prospect of missing her chance, she snatched up the carrier handles to hurry her number over to the desk, setting Cake down in a hurry to flop it at the attendant urgently. "I'm here, here's the number!" she announced somewhat unnecessarily, but it felt strange to just wordlessly hand off the number. As had become a theme today, she got no more response than a waving on to follow them to the correct room. Feeling the need to huff about everybody's sour rubbing off on her today, the satyr took a breath before she ensured she had both orbaru carriers and followed them back to her room. Wasn't worth it to make everybody elses' bad day her own! She ought to be happy she didn't miss her number, after all. breeding| 20

Luckily their room had just the perfect thing for the slimly built Cake - something of a jungle gym! Of course the breeding center would want to keep everything sanitary above all, so it was still sterile and white, built out of one of the walls. But recessions and randomly jutting cubes gave the creatures places to climb, and coves that were easy enough to hide away and feel safe in - a spot of their own to defend, if need be! It would be fun to see the lithe female exploring them. The alcoves being easy to see was a boon, albeit likely an intentionally designed one. Highest of the shelves were below chest-height to her, also probably to keep the critters accessible. After all, the breeding center did have a purpose, and this did serve to help the creatures to ah, 'carry out' that purpose when they're more comfortable. But holding up the line because someone couldn't find Precious within a maze of toys.. ugh. No, she was grateful for their foresight in designing this place, aside from their not-amazing registrar, anyway. Other than that, it seemed like the place was well-made with both beasts and their attending humanoids in mind. breeding| 21

Judging by the semi-distressed booping from her crate Cake is just going to perish if she had to remain boxed up for any longer! Should probably stop just looking around and actually get to the entire purpose of being here. At least she could wander around, and so could her daydreams, as soon as the orbaru were let out to do their business. Didn't seem much of for debate that Cake was going to be the first one out; Mochi didn't actually seem all that displeased with his capture in comparison. It was truly surprising that such a little critter could make such a decibel of noise, especially when her hand got closer to the latch on her cage. "Okay cutie, calm down," she murmured white fiddling with the latch, finding a desperate little paw reaching through the bars to grapple at it with minuscule claws like she had been in the lobby. Aww. "Jus don't have an aneurysm with me, please..." It felt like a legitimate worry with this one! Finally her grasp found just the right way to open the carrier - it was always the worst thing dealing with a cage mechanism that was foreign to you. breeding| 22

Cage door swinging open with some assistance from it's captive, the lithe orbaru was off in an instant, delighted to not have something like the cage door holding back her energy any longer! It was a quick zoom around the room to check out the perimeter, before the energetic female went straight up the climbing construction upon the wall. Well then. This one got comfortable quickly - and Lethalia had to admit she quite liked that quality in a critter over those who tended to be shy! Both sides had their 'demons' to deal with during training of course, but she'd found the bolder ones were those she had an easier time training and interacting with in spite of the particular struggles brought with their nature. Even with what little time she'd had to interact with them so far, Mochi didn't strike her as being shy for all he seemed the opposite of Cake. It was more that his attentions were turned more inward than that of the female, especially since he seemed happy to take his time while in captivity grooming his long silky fur. By the looks of him, this must be a near-constant ritual, it would have to be for such a white creature to remain near-spotless. Aside from, well, his spots. breeding| 23

Though she half-wanted to make the joke to him, Lethalia instead muffled her own dad-joke with a bitten lip as she kneeled to his cage, figuring it would probably be best to not throw her deadpan jokes at a critter who wouldn't appreciate it. Mochi seemed to barely even care that she sprung the latch on her cage, causing the satyr to rattle the wire door a little. "Ay, it's open, little guy," she attempts, but the orbaru would barely look up from cleaning his paws. The satyr fluttered her fingers in front of the open space, scritching his head a little bit as a she attempted to beckon him outside. It just garnered her another (really cute) scowl, and Mochi's attention switching over to fix the potential cowlick that she might've put upon his head. He's only just gotten done dealing with his head, too; how rude! The satyr had to admit she had a huge temptation to ruffle his headfur up, but that seemed a bit meaner than she'd like to be. He was one of the softest silkies she'd ever laid hands on though, and his being transfixed with keeping his fur in the perfect shape was kind of charming. breeding| 24

Alright then, he wasn't going to be incredibly happy with this outcome, but he was going to make her do dump him out of the carrier, was't he? It was a bit troubling to think that he was here for a reason, but she didn't necessarily have a need to borrow others' critters just for some companionship. It was means to an end, and that was fine - but it made her more than a little nervous at times. Animals would be animals in the end, and while she was more than confident in training her own creatures, it was hard to judge just how demanding she could be of critters who were merely acquaintances. Maybe there was a way to draw him out that didn't require dumping him out. "Well, alright. Enjoy y'self in there, I s'pose," Lethalia told him, leaving the carrier open and sitting on the floor, but deciding not to directly bother Mochi again just yet. Maybe it wasn't worth all the extra effort, but treating him so rudely as to pour him out likely wouldn't get an orbaru comfortable enough to breed if she did that. At least not for a very long while, and she wasn't particularly interested in staying here that long. breeding| 25

"Caaake," she asked to the open air, catching sight of the orbaru before she finished getting her name out. How silly it had clearly been, to assume she'd actually gone some distance away! Curious as ever about why she was suddenly broken free, only to find herself alone without any other souls paying attention to play with! Cake was immediately next to Lethalia and Mochi's carrier, flopped over the side of it - and the satyr expects that the orbaru had been batting at her curls while she was busy bent over Mochi's carrier. It couldn't help but make her smile to meet Cake's eyes, wondering at the same time what she'd gotten herself into getting one of these babies! They were almost certainly going to be unique in the personality area with these parents! Making sure they were right in front of Mochi's carrier, Lethalia settled down and fluttered her fingers at Cake, getting the lanky orbaru to bounce directly off the chair to skitter over to where her hand was, diving onto it with a cry. She was clearly thrilled to have someone to play with, though Lethalia didn't really want her to be the orbaru's playmate instead of the male! breeding| 26

"Aw, g'girl Cake, lookit you," the satyr baby-talked to Cake as she gently grappled with her hand, long sinuous tail wrapped around her upper arm while at it. Keeping her triumphant grin to herself, the satyr tried her best to ignore the fact that Mochi was now looking over at them with a measure more interested than he had the rest of the day. Lethalia hoped it was a good thing, even if she was indeed trying to make him jealous to draw the critter out of his crate. Soon enough, that fluffy head popped out of the door, a curious boop at the outside world. Catching sight of someone 'new', Cake relinquished her grip of the satyr's arm to instead rush up to the male with a loud greeting. Once let out of the 'orbaru trap, she relocated to settle down on the chair provided, Lethalia lounged back and settled in to let them do this on their own. Let the orbaru come to terms with one another on their own, that way seemed to work out the best for most parties involved. She could provide them some interjection when she needed to, either if things went poorly or if they just didn't keep interacting. breeding| 27

For the time being, she felt that the outcome was likely to be better if she 'butted out' as much as she could. Personalities notwithstanding, they'd know what to do, even if she's not certain if either one of these guys have been here yet or not. Mochi was continuing to look rather taken aback by the completely energetic female before him now, but Lethalia didn't want to bother them any further at this point. All she was interested in doing now was sitting back, and maybe daydreaming about the babies she might get from this breeding! Oh, she ought to start figuring out how best to document her breedings, maybe she could even start drawing them until she could write well enough to track it that way... It's going to be a dangerous rabbit hole to jump down - a spacy grin appears on the satyr's lips even as she judges her own thoughts for the pun - with these orbaru having even more extensive genealogy going on than sarane did. If there was one pastime she's taken up since coming to the labs, it's scouring over any family tree tracking she could get her hands on. Some were better at keeping records than others, but any family history is interesting to look up on her creatures. breeding| 28

Those family trees up so odd looking, the 'originators' of each branching tree often a labs creation, no mystery about where the species had grown and developed before the first recorded specimen. How stark of beginnings the creatures had unsettled her a little, for genetics and sciences had never been her particular interest or knowledge - but the idea that life just sprung fourth from the labs was a fact of life she couldn't quite get her brain to wrap around. Still, it meant those family trees were all the more interesting to scour, especially when some rather prolific breeders were straight from the labs, making quite impressive records of ancestry all their own. All the more interesting to Lethalia that near all foundation breeders were still around! Interesting to not only be aware of sires that founded entire lines or even set a prescident for the species, and yet have the critters still tucked away live and well in someone's kennel! If she could have done the same with the stock she'd liked while at the Caravan, instead of using their greatest grandchild and being able to go straight to the 'source' of the quality she was looking for... The abundance of these creatures made her feel quite spoiled in comparison to how handling creatures outside of the city was like. Even if the creatures weren't still alive, she wouldn't be entirely surprised if their entire genetics were saved in a vial or as lines of code somewhere... breeding| 29
