Morgan had really wanted to do as much training as possible recently, but they hadn't really expected the Training Guild to want messenger training to be done so soon. Morgan was still worried mostly about the tat-lungs and Waar, but they did have some time (especially if they didn't training Nico until they were done) to work with Pachinko. Morgan had never really worked with Pachinko, despite their father having gifted Morgan him during their childhood. He was fed and exercised all the time, but Morgan just hadn't spent enough time with him for him to be trained. Today; that was going to change!
Morgan put Pachinko down on the table. He did tend to react to his name when Morgan said it, but never when anyone else did. "Pachinko." Morgan said. They immediately pulled a rolled up 'note' out of their lab-coat pocket. Then, they gently held the note up to the creature's beak, while giving a snap of a hand signal.

Morgan wasn't surprised to see Pachinko not take it. So they gently pushed the 'message' up to his mouth and then snapped again; the 'command signal' for holding. Pachinko moved his head to one side, and then the other, refusing to take it, pulling his neck back to keep from being pestered by the message. "Oh, come on Pachinko." Morgan said, mumbling. Perhaps 'hold' was not the best first thing to teach Pachinko, but Morgan was sure that he would take to it eventually. Morgan pulled the message back and then thought for a moment, trying to figure out if there was any other way of doing this that would be better. After a second or two, Morgan realized that really anything else wouldn't work. They continued, putting the message up to his mouth and then snapping. Eventually, eventually he would grab it, Morgan was certain. It would just take time.

Morgan continued this again, and again, and again. Eventually, after the snap, Pachinko got frustrated. He reached out and snatched the message, and Morgan scarcely kept him from chewing it. Thankfully he was kind of small, and it was made of really thick paper. The message survived mostly un-pestered, and Morgan breathed out a sigh of relief. "Good boyo, Pachinko. Alrighty, let's get you a berry." Morgan reached out their hand beneath Pachinko's face to get him used to the sensation that would be used in 'drop' later. Morgan took the message from him with some difficulty, and then gave him a big fat blueberry in return. 'This is going to be rough, Pachinko isn't used to being worked with at all...' Morgan felt guilty, at that. It was something that could be remedied in the future, at least though. It was a huge concern. Morgan prepared to repeat this again.

Repetition was the biggest part of any training, and with Pachinko, a lot of it was required. More of it than usual, in fact. Morgan had to repeat the training seven times, with offering him the 'message' and then snapping to finally get him to grab it again, and then they had to keep him from chewing it again. He was still given his blueberry, though, and the training was again repeated. Another four times before he would grab it again, but this time there was no chewing. Morgan traded a blueberry for it again, and then breathed out a sigh of relief. This was going, but it was still taking forever indeed. Morgan continued working with him repeatedly, using the same thing every single time. It took a lot longer than Morgan had dealt with when they worked with other creatures before, but finally he was regularly grabbing the message on command.

Though he was regularly doing it now, Morgan still wasn't completely convinced that he 'got' it entirely. It would take a lot more repetition to feel like Pachinko was going to do this ever single time, and Morgan wasn't afraid to continue repeating it over and over again until he got it. This was exactly what happened; Morgan would hold out the message, and then snap, and Pachinko would grab it. Morgan repeated this a few times, giving him a treat each time, and then instead of holding the message, Morgan placed it down on the table. Morgan gestured to it and snapped, and much to their shock and happiness, Pachinko leaned right down and picked it right up in his mouth. Morgan took the message and then gave him another blueberry. This was quite good, Morgan thought. Still, they continued repeating it over and over and over again until finally, Morgan was sure that he had gotten the 'hold' command.

Morgan decided to put that to rest for now at least; Morgan was wary about training creatures recently... They felt like perhaps Pachinko might surprise them with forgetting something that they already went over or something like that. It would be a huge issue if he did. However, the next thing they needed to work on was only going to build on their work previously. Morgan grabbed the message again, and held it up for Pachinko to take, snapping again. Pachinko didn't seem to have forgotten it quite yet, but Morgan was quite glad to see that he hadn't. Now was the hard part, however. Morgan held out their hand like they were going to take the message from him, and then snapped twice. Pachinko had no idea what TWO snaps meant, just that it was different than the one snap- something that Morgan perhaps had him being a bird-creature to thank for.

Morgan knew that he was going to be a slow learner with the first few things (it was part of the reason why people generally started with this sort of easy stuff; 'Names', 'Come', 'Sit', etc.) but Morgan was so used to creatures that were either quick on the uptake or already used to training that seeing a creature that was literally 'normal' felt like they were taking for absolute ever. It was driving them crazy, but they knew that as they continued training, he would slowly learn things quicker. This was only the very basic start of all of the training he was going to need, too. Morgan sighed, and then held out their hand again, snapping twice, and this time had a blueberry in their hand where the creature could get it, if he dropped the message. He did that; dropping the message and going after the blueberry instead.

Morgan was at least pleased that this was a start, even if it felt like a slow start to them. Morgan made sure that he was able to finish his blueberry before continuing on. Morgan held out the message and then snapped again, further reinforcing the last training, and was pleased when Pachinko grabbed it. Morgan nodded at this, knowing that it was going to continue being quite well from here on out. At this, Morgan put another blueberry in their hand and held it out, snapping twice with the other hand. Once again, Pachinko dropped the message into Morgan's hand and then grabbed the blueberry. Morgan nodded at this; knowing that he was starting to pick it up at least a little bit now. Pachinko would hopefully be much easier to train in the future. The human prepared to begin the next step of the training; they'd need to do this without the blueberry being seen.

Morgan's goal was to eventually get their training down to an exact process; and thus far they were failing quite harshly at that. Training had nuance, but Morgan was convinced that it could be brought down to that exact science that they believed that everything in the world had. There had to be something to it! The human didn't put the berry in their hand this time, instead they gave the creature the message and snapped so that it would hold it, and then held out their hand again snapping twice. Pachinko did not see the treat being offered, but he seemed to have a hunch that he would get one if he did right. He'd gotten one so far, right? Morgan watched with amusement as Pachinko spat the message out and into their palm. "Good boyo, Pachinko!" Morgan said, and then a berry was provided to him for performing correctly.

Repetition was to be started now that Pachinko was 'getting' it, and Morgan was going to go through with that no matter how long it took. As per the usual, Morgan repeated this process many, many times. Pachinko would be prompted via a single snap to hold the message, and then would be prompted to drop it with the two rapid snaps. Morgan would then give him a berry for performing it properly, which he did every single time, and this would continue. Morgan would hold out the message, and then Pachinko would hold the message after a snap. At this, Morgan would snap twice, and Pachinko would drop it into Morgan's hand, and would be given a blueberry. This was repeated several times over the next thirty minutes until Morgan was very sure that he would remember those two things now. He was performing them every single time now. Time to move on to something else!

Another thing indeed. Already Morgan was slowing up a bit naturally. They didn't really have time to do all of the training they wanted to do with him today, and that was probably for the best. For one, the creature needed some time to memorize all of this mess; not that they weren't going to go over all of the stuff they were already working on just now with the rest of the messenger training today. Morgan probably would have preferred to do other training bits and bobs before the messenger training, but eh; there was no need to put off this training that the guild wanted when Morgan had quite a few other critters that more desperately needed training more so than him. He could probably wait a while.
Now they needed to work on Pachinko getting a message specifically. Morgan put the message down on the table, and then scattered a few other items as well.

Pachinko was naturally drawn to the rolled up paper 'message' since the training they were doing seemed to revolve around it. Hopefully that meant that he would catch on pretty quickly, because they were quickly running out of time today. "Alrighty... How to do this..." Morgan mumbled. Perhaps all that mumbling was why Morgan tended to train to nonverbal cues with most creatures? Morgan decided on a quick wolf whistle to be the command, and also figured that perhaps the snapping would also be a great supplement to this at first to get him to pick it up in the first place.
Morgan whistled the command, and then waited for a moment, so that Pachinko could hear the tone. Then, they repeated the whistle and then snapped once; a thing that Pachinko associated with the message. Pachinko avoided the other items, and grabbed the message. Now Morgan was just going to have to wean him off of the snap!

Even though Morgan was rapidly losing the desire to get this done today, they knew that they couldn't stop now and had to continue trekking on regardless of what else they wanted to do today. The human continued repeating this the way that they had just done; with the snap being used along with the whistle to let the creature know to go get the message. Pachinko was doing much better now; and as they continued, Pachinko would go get the message when he was told to, hold it as he was told to, and then drop it when he was told to. Morgan would then give him a berry for his trouble, and then repeat the whole thing again. The most important part of this was that they were going over the Hold and Drop commands while teaching the new 'get the message' command to reinforce the behavior. Pachinko was doing excellently thus far.

Morgan decided after a while that it would be prudent to try to wean him off of the hold command now, to see if he would transfer the 'get the message' whistle off of being associated only with the hold command. Pachinko was a strange creature of course, but he was slowly taking to training a little better on. The next time that Morgan whistled, they did not snap. This did indeed give Pachinko pause, but he didn't really stop for too long before he moved over, ignoring all of the other items as per usual. Morgan was pleased that he was building on his other training with this. He picked up the message and then turned around. Morgan asked him to drop it with the two-snap command, and then gave him a berry as a treat. So far, so good! Morgan was incredibly pleased with it; this was a very good sign.
