Renathan had actually wanted to breed Howie to Kingfisher, but he remembered that Kingfisher had just been bred not too long ago. How could he even forget? Kingfisher was bred to Lazare this month, and that had been a horrible adventure really. Hopefully, today would be much calmer. Renathan decided that he would breed Howie next month to Kingfisher, and this month to Zelda instead. He really wasn't after anything in particular with this breeding, but after looking at the orbaru over again and wondering about the pairs he'd already chosen, he figured that this unorthodox pair would be quite okay enough. Howie was one of Renathan's most calm orbaru, though he was also really finicky about everything and a little sickly. However, none of his kids had been sickly, so Renathan counted that a success! Zelda was a very sweet girl that had been thrown by his most sweet pair, Goodnight and Nightlight. She was one of two of their babies that he personally owned, but she was the only one out of the two that had a litter as of yet. Renathan felt like Howie needed more experienced mates for a while until he became less finicky about everything.

Renathan spent quite a bit of time planning today's perfect route before continuing on to the breeding center like he normally did. He had invested in getting better crates for the purposes of carrying the tiny creatures around, ones that would even work well enough with the smaller arms of the v1 that had given him trouble relatively recently. Renathan wasn't breeding a v1 today, but he was breeding a silky, and they were notorious for it was well, or rather, notorious for getting that front leg feathering all trapped up in places where the plastic of the crate met other plastics. It was a mess, but Renathan was slowly becoming a much better orbaru keeper. If he kept on getting orbaru like he was, hand over fist like, he was going to wind up having to buy yet another extension for his orbaru farm. It was basically an entirely different estate at this point! Renathan wanted to do better and better though, and to do that he had to continue working with the creatures and practicing. He did really think that this pair would be surprising, at least. He couldn't imagine what would come of it! He figured they were quite different than one another.

Zelda was certainly strange looking, if one didn't know what her parentage was. She was a deep dark chocolate color, with a lighter chocolate belly, a pale tan saddle-like marking that extended to the tail, black stripes along that with reddish marks, and a white mask with white eartips. It was a bizarre amount of markings, but she really did look like a longer-furred version of her parents. As for Howie, he was a special custom, Renathan noted. He'd bought him from someone else, but he was supposedly based off of a ferret. He had a sable mark on his hind end, white feet, a striped tail, and a sort of yellow-golden helmet marking, as well as a sort of bar between his eyes. In addition, his ears were stark white! He had passed on all of those traits before to his daughter Rafet, and some of his coloration to his son Marshmallow. Renathan wondered if perhaps he would pass these nice markings on again, or if Zelda would pass on her markings instead. Renathan had no idea, but he couldn't wait to see! Zelda had really left a 'mark' on her daughters before, mostly in colors, and some in markings.

Renathan was kind of hoping for more blendy colors in this one. So many of his breedings had stark colored offspring thrown, and that was fine by him! He mostly wanted those stark colored ones. However, this time he was wondering if they would be more stark, or more different altogether and blendy, since Howie's markings tended to do that anyway. Renathan continued on his carefully selected path to the breeding center while thinking. The morning was crisp and clear, and the trees were just starting to realize that fall was coming soon, and their leaves were starting to crinkle and get yellow at the very tips. Overall, everything still looked very green in comparison. Renathan hoped that fall would stick around this year instead of summer simply tossing on over into the sleepy winter. That would suck, he thought. He hated it last year when it did that. He hoped to be more active for longer this year, since he really hated the cold. So far, nothing bad was happening on the way to the breeding center, and that was what he liked. In addition, the new critter crates had clear walls, so that the orbaru can see outside. Not all of them had this, of course.

Renathan didn't even know if he was going to keep both of the babies that the parents would probably provide thanks to the berry he had brought! He couldn't help but wonder how many of them would come out with coats that he could use in later breedings. He actually wasn't sure if he would use all the ones he already had, and he had considered lowering the amount of orbaru he had before. He'd actually given a few away the last few months, but now he was already thinking about doing it again. Thus was the life of someone who bred mostly for coat colors, which in any other species would have probably been unethical. Orbaru were made to be simple and unobtrusive breeders on purpose, however, so he didn't have to worry too much about that. Renathan had chosen the clear containers at the moment for this particular pair so that they could look at each other and not cause trouble on the way to the center! Renathan figured that most of the time his issue had been that the orbaru couldn't see each other, and thus were not distracted from the probably quite scary walk. Now, they could sort of 'boop' at themselves instead of pestering him.

They were indeed booping at one another already. It hadn't taken Howie very long to stop making the soft orbaru crying noises he'd started making whenever Renathan had put him in the critter crate (he hated that it would seem) whenever his little lavender eyes caught the pink ones that Zelda sported. Well, at least the pair were not freaking out! Zelda was not prone to panic at all, and that was preferable to some of the males that Renathan had. Renathan had no idea why, but he was seeing patterns in bloodlines when it came to personality traits, and though he hoped he was wrong when it came to the red pandas, he was very sure that they all indeed had some similarities, and that gave him pause. Thankfully, he would be fine if Howie's cry-baby issues passed down eventually, as long as his illness didn't pass down. That was what Renathan was the most worried about. So far, however, Marshmallow was a trouble maker but not really sick or anything, and Rafet was laser-focused and seemed to pass down that to her offspring instead. Had that come from Howie? If so, Renathan could not at all tell, not one bit.

Howie was a lot of things, but focused wasn't really on the list that Renathan would rattle off if someone asked. Howie was whiny, for one, because he'd been used to being sick for so long, and now that he wasn't all that sick all the time, he didn't seem to know how to be normal. Howie was picky over everything; his food, his mates, his bedding. Renathan had been afraid in the last breeding that he would refuse to breed with the female he had chosen for the creature. Up to this point, however, the poor thing had indeed managed quite fine with the one he chose last time, a female named Koi. So far, Howie did seem like he at least wanted to play with Zelda, the dark chocolatey coated fur-ball, and with most orbaru that was that. When males and females played, babies tended to come along. However, Howie had refused breedings before, only playing. He hoped that it wouldn't be a thing anymore, since he had bred the first time, but perhaps he would be picky again? Renathan hoped that giving them some extra time, if he was allowed, would allow him the time it took not to be as finicky.

Renathan was going to use one of his three precious orbaru v2 berries this go around, even though it was the very epitome of a random pairing. He definitely didn't really want any more silkies with those marks, if he could help it. At least not with the barred marks of Zelda. So he hoped that v2s would show the originally markings much better, at the very least. Renathan carefully continued his walk. He had chosen a route to the breeding center from his home (which was deceptively far away from it, not being able to cut across the gardens and all) that circumvented the park, making it longer, but allowing him to keep from going through the area that had caused so much trouble lately. Thus far, it was a good idea. The air was crisp and nice, the breeze soft and cool, the air still comfortable warm but not overtly hot, and the sky was blue with puffy white clouds. He knew that the day just couldn't get any nicer than this around the Labs! This was his favorite weather, and honestly the walk was really nice for him. He didn't get to do this often, since often he felt depressed and stuck at work.

Renathan had been so busy at work lately that it had been stressful just to go out and get breedings done! He had work today too, but for some reason, the weather just felt right as rain to him in that moment, and really lifted his typically bad mood. At least for a little while, Renathan was going to be in a good mood. He was somewhere, deep down, sure that he was going to be in a bad mood again as soon as he saw that huge waiting room. Every time he went in, he saw that the waiting room was full on up with tons of people taking advantage of the breeding center being back open and such. Renathan didn't blame them one bit, he was doing it himself, but man was it hard work to wait as long as it was sometimes required in there! Not only was the wait an issue, but also his own pairs would often take forever and a day to breed in the breeding room once the time came for them to get to go back. That was partially what the clear sides he had now where going to be for; they could get to know each other and play before getting into the room!

Renathan couldn't help but wonder, as he glanced down at the pair of orbaru underneath his arms in their clear critter carriers playing with one another in a strange game of 'bop the wall at the same time' from their separate containers as the stared at one another, whether or not Howie's striped tail was a different marking than the rest of the body. Sure, his tail stripes theirselves were a separate marking, like all orbaru's barred markings, but was the fact that his tail was white a separate marking in and of itself? There was only one way to find out, and Renathan was sure that come whenever Zelda's litter would come, if indeed the notoriously finicky Howie would do what he was supposed to, he would find out. Renathan smiled beneath his mask as he watched them play, walking carefully on the sidewalk but not really looking where he was going other than that. He nearly bumped into someone, and looked at them apologetically beneath his mask while apologizing profusely. He knew that they wouldn't be able to see his face, which was good, so hopefully the apology would be accepted. It startled the orbaru pair a bit though, but not too badly.

Renathan suddenly felt a bit of a panic for a moment. Wait, did he manage to remember to bring the orbaru breeding symbol? The one that allowed him to breed more than three pairs a month? Renathan had registered his and Jack's pair under himself the last time, since he didn't want to use one of Her slots for something He wanted to do, but now he was wondering if he remembered to do so. As the individual he nearly bumped into gave him a snarky reply (not that he blamed them) and then moved off, Renathan sat both orbaru down next to each other's crates in the grass (of course each one was in their respective crate!) and he patted down the little satchel he had brought full of all of the other equipment. It had to be in there! He quickly opened it, ignoring the delighted squeals of the orbaru below as they tried to cuddle through the thick plastics of their containers, and he stared down into the little satchel. Inside, there were the two berries, or rather, the berry for the multiple babies, and the fruit, the coiled one for the v2... But where was that darn breeding charm?

Leave it to Renathan to somehow forget the most important part of the breeding! Renathan hastily picked up both orbaru, and turned around. How was he going to have time to get this done now? If he went home, the long way as he had planned, it would be twice as long before he got home to be able to get back, and go to work of course, and oh no. This actually put him off schedule quite a ways... He could go home and just do this another day, but no, he needed to get this done now. He didn't know when he was going to have time to get it done, otherwise! At least the two orbaru would have more time to play through the clear sides of the critter crates, so that they would be nice and happy whenever they were able to get to the breeding center. Still, after picking up the orbaru of course and turning around, Renathan quickly rushed towards his house, knowing it was going to take him quite some time to get there. It was going to be a big mess, this was, all because he had forgotten that dang little charm! Renathan could have cussed.

Renathan was pretty well exhausted by the time that he managed to get most of the way onto his property. Carrying two, even if small, animals was hard work over a distance. It was why he tended to carry them like he did, but even now it was a big chore. Renathan sighed, pushed through the front gate, and quickly made a beeline towards the door. This messed up his plans severely, and he hated it when that happened. Especially now that he had a job, he had things to do and places to be and sadly not all of those things were breeding orbaru at the breeding center, or waffling back and forth between home and who else knows where because he was forgetting things. He was trying not to let this sour his mood too much, because he'd been in such a great mood too! He quickly sat the two carriers down again to rest his arms, placing the pair where they could play with each other through the clear sides of the critter crates on the front porch of the estate. At that, Renathan walked in and made a beeline to grab the thing he had forgotten there.

As soon as the blasted pink charm was gathered up into Renathan's pouch with the other things, he quickly turned tail and just about ran down the steps, hoping to high goodness for all he was worth that he wouldn't tumble down the hardwood steps. That was what he got for choosing hardwood steps with no carpet covering! He hated having to vacuum his hair out of carpet though, it was a big mess. Renathan made it to the bottom with minimal slipping, thankfully, and then he managed to be able to get to the front porch rather quickly too. As they had earlier, the two orbaru were trying to cuddle up through the walls of their critter cages, not quite understanding the concept of 'clear' walls still being there physically and all. Renathan didn't have time to think much about that as he picked them both up, and tucked them under his sore and tired arms yet again. Not even the good weather could lift his spirits this time as he left the property, trying hard to close the gate behind him as he did so and barely getting it to shut. He hurried quickly down the street. This was going to take forever!
