The Gallor called to her in a way that she had seldom experienced before. Logic had told her that she was far too inexperienced to even dream of taming the creature, but impulse had driven her to purchase the monster. Fearless hovered close. It could be difficult to read the strange creature that was linked to her very soul, but she got the feeling that he didn’t approve of her purchase. “Well, I can’t exactly return him,” she muttered to herself. The Gallor was muzzled, the only sure-fire way to keep him from attacking any civilians on the street. Her movements had to be careful to ensure that the egg she was carrying in her backpack wasn’t harmed. Leafy wasn’t one to normally carry around eggs, but for some reason she felt terrible if she left this one on its own. She flinched as she reached out a hand to clip a chain around his neck. The creature growled deeply, displeased with another being approaching. “I am your owner now, we’re going to have to learn to get along,” she told him. Her fingers lightly brushed against his fur as her fingers managed to maneuver the chain around him. The egg in her backpack thrummed happily at the contact. “I suppose I should give you a name,” she commented.
Fearless floated close to her, his disapproval growing more evident. She did her best to ignore him. The purchase had already been completed and it was pointless to consider otherwise. Besides, the egg seemed to like the Gallor and that had to count for something. Axis. The word came to her suddenly, as though pushed into her brain by an outside force. But that sort of notion seemed silly. Wasn’t that after all simply how thoughts worked.
“Axis,” she spoke the word aloud.
Immediately, the Gallor pricked his ears forward. Had that been his name already? Leafy suspected not considering she had been given registration papers that had listed something else. She shivered, suddenly not understanding anything about the creature. She supposed that Axis could now be considered his name. She didn’t quite feel like she had picked it herself, but when a creature was settled on a name, she wasn’t really one to change it. Fearless shuddered as though he too were uneasy with the situation. She gave him a reassuring smile. He settled down a bit, but the uneasiness didn’t go away entirely. For now she would need to work on getting Axis to the farm.
