"Petunia wants them to see Poppy." Cortana brings up. The blonde youth's eyebrow raises briefly as he looks back and gives the black rakai a questionable look. The larger rakai barks twice. Whines. The twintail sighs a bit, then answers Cortana in the same unusual language, giving Flare a distrusting glance. It takes a minute or so as he lazily and with utmost slowness removes himself from the doorway and turns to lead them back into the room. The ssashirk can hear a child crying back there. The twintail goes over to the child, settling himself close by. Unwilling to leave ...this had to be Siri... child alone. The child's watery eyes spill tears, huddling into her knees. The room is a child's room; small with wooden pieces of furniture; There were two beds, piled atop each other, separated by portions of wood and a ladder to lead to the top bed. Bunks. The room had not been painted, but any linens inside were mixtures of pastels and bright colors; little girls sometimes were very attached to bright pink. On a cloud shaped dog bed, a still figure rested. The only rakai that Flare had ever seen were Petunia who was black, and Shabh, being black, brown and pumpkin orange-yellow. This pup had a pale coat, splattered with brown and black splotches. It rested restlessly, whimpering off and on. Limbs twitching and freezing up as in pain. For others who have a softer soul, its a heartbreaking look. 16 6.20

"Siri dear. Someone got your letter to come help Poppy." Cortana leads into the room, speaking softly as to not wake the pup. "His name is Flare. Brought his own puppy to say hello too." Siri has shoulder length blackish brown hair and big honey gold eyes. Sniffling, the child looks up at her mother, then past her to the reptile in the room. She squeaks in terror and dives into her...relation's? side. Bixby makes no noise but his expression does grit a bit. She must've headbutted him pretty hard, face burrowed into his ribs. "Scary lizard" she whimpers. Cortana heads for her side, gesturing Flare to take a seat in the corner. The heavy footfalls that don't match wake Poppy from his not-sound-at-all sleep. Sleepy pain filled eyes looked at his humans; his best friend all sad and watery. At a big giant who smelled like mama, and... another pup like him? There were funny bones poking outta his back. It hurt to move about though. The pup slightly lifted his head with a whine, seeing the new visitvers. Flare tried to make himself appear small; it didn't make a difference if the child was scared of him or not. But Shabh seemed much more interested in the pup in the middle of the room. Big gray eyes watched. 17 7.20

With the length of the rope that held Shabh within controllable reach and the size of the room, if Flare let him roam a bit and held onto the leash, he could let Shabh play, if the pup was able to play. Now Flare didn't consider himself in any way shape or form a dog-anything, but the pup's movements were reminescent of human growing pains. "How old Ffoffffee?" he asks Cortana. "Bigger 'n Shabh." "Seven months, I think. Poppy was Siri's birthday present this year. About a week or so ago he started crying more often, for no reason at all." Cortana started launching into the story. The sudden increase of crying, and not from lonliness, the rakai accompanied Siri everywhere. When she went to pick him up, he would cry and struggle and be in pain. The first trip to "that vet" gave him a lookover and found nothing wrong, even with xrays and a can scan. So much money spent and he pronounced nothing wrong. Nothing, and now Poppy only sleeps and cries and barely eats. He's in so much pain, and its heartbreaking for me to watch my baby girl and him suffer." she's starting to tear up now. Bixby doesn't speak, just watching. A concerned look in his sharp clever eyes. What did this strange rhave in mind for Siri's Poppy? He couldn't... figure this one out. Which did not make him a happy twintail. At all. 18 8.20

"Eeou...talk Ffetunia. Talk Ffoffffee?" he asks, taking int the information, with a growing dislike for "that vet." If he could help it, he'd stay far away from them. The orbaru's fur was growing back in slowly around the bite marks, but there would be scars and bald spots. "I tried. He hurts. Legs, tail, his back, its all hurting. So much hurt, and thats all I can get from asking him what's wrong." the woman says, wringing her fingers over her right hand, a ring literally embedded on a finger, glinting green. Something in Flare's mind seems to react to looking at that ring; like a humming sense, or a spark. Like... what Eevane said. His high sensitivity to magic-things. Must be a magic ring. "Grrrowing ffaine?" the ssashirk asks. Cortana's expression appears confused. "Ffoffffee grow fassst. Ffoffffee grow hurts." He nods towards Bixby who pauses, watching him intently. "He grrrow, he hurrrt? Arrrm? Leg? Baak?" he asks. A pause. Now that he did think about it (and tried to forget), when he'd sprouted several inches over the summertime one year, it hurt like hell. Although he did understand spoken Common, the twintail didn't speak it. [That makes sense.] he mutters to his aunt, in the language Flare didn't understand. [That summer when you saw me in fall and I had grown so much; everything hurt. Like being overly stretched.] Shabh tilted his head sideways, his ears flopping with the direction of his head. New pup no play? Play with me? He drops into the playful position, wiggling his butt in the air. 19 9.20

"That's possible. I heard from a neighbor that her rakai practically grew overnight. A messy bundle of overly long limbs that they weren't sure what to do with briefly, sort of like how puppies learn to walk....or children." she corrected herself as Cortana mused out loud. "Growing pains. I have no medication that's safe for animals to offer for pain though..." she looks worried again; and Poppy needed to get some food in him. The pain and lack of food would make him worse. Siri's whimpers over the 'adults' talking gave Flare a gnawing feeling of wanting to help. But how... He had to think. There had to be something he could do. Growing pains... growing pains... usually of the joints and muscles. Inflammation... What about that... was it safe on animals? The drake reaches into his bag and digs out his booklet on plants. There were a few that he could use... small amounts. "Geenger and caeeenne ffeffffer." he finally looks up from the book. Everyone who understands common looks at him in a mild shock. Pepper? "Good for joint ffaines. Leettle bit in food ffer Ffoffffee's heavee." he explains. "I do have some peppers, we could try it. I worry it will do harder things to Poppy's stomach and intestines." Cortana muses, looking down at Poppy. The larger rakai pup rolls his head a litle to see the other pup on his haunches, wanting to play. Wanna play, can't move. Hurts lots. Shabh is still wiggling, and ready to play. 20 4/12 10.20

The problem with plants is that it took quantity to make it effective. Humans needed a considerably concentrated dosage of ginger and cayenne pepper to make the pain less. He didn't know how fast it would effect an ill puppy. But if it did help, would he need it for Shabh when he got this big? If he got this big? Or bigger? Cortana discusses with her nephew? a bit further before going out into the kitchen of the small house. Talking to herself and probably Petunia who had followed her out. Leaving only Flare, Bixby and Siri in the room to keep the two rakai company. [Ginger and Cayenne pepper. We season food with those. How will those ingredients help Poppy.] Flare looked up from his book, seeing Bixby looking right at him. He'd heard... no... he heard and understood the boy this time. But it wasn't common. [You understand Ssakash?] he asks. The twintail smirks a bit. [Language of the lizardfolk; it is rarely heard for us but drew my interest when I was bored in my schooling.] the drake is a bit stunned by this. [My aunt believes I am only fluent in spoken Layan, but because I only have spoken it here in the home.] "Know Common?" he asks in common. A pass of irk crosses his features. [Yes. I don't speak it.] he responds. {Tumai?} [No.] He can see the drake's ear fins droop a bit. [My aunt says you are far from home, that you are desert folk. Do you treat your own with those plants?] The mention of plants and treatment does get Flare's attention back. Aww. Shabh wants to play though. He wiggles a bit, ready to play, but Poppy only sighs and whines again, stiffening from the movement of his neck. 21 11.20

[Yucca for inflammation of joint. Of muscle pain. Ginger for good gut health and less nausea. Cayenne for inflammation and pains. Bit hot for sensitive gut, but Poppy should be good once pain goes down.] The twintail listened to the slightly disjointed Ssakash the drake spouts off for ten minutes straight. It must be taking his aunt some time to hunt down Yucca of all things. [Not instant help, but gradual help. Get Poppy to eat too.] He retrieves a small box with a galabex drawn on it. The twintail boy takes it, opening the lid. Both rakai, yes even Poppy start sniffing the air when the lid opens. He smells the item. Galabex jerky. And good quality meat too. He breaks off a pair of chunks and takes a bite of one piece himself without asking, but replacing the lid and offering it back to the ssashirk. Flare watches him eat the jerky with a moderate look. He could only crush and rip with his jaw structure and teeth, but grinding was something humans could do with their teeth. Jealous..... :Good quality jerky. Did you dry this yourself: [No. Given it to ...entertain a lizard with rocks on it.] the boy chuckles a bit; he'd heard and seen lizards with rocks attached. Something nudged at his knees. He looks down, and sees Shabh with those big cherry eyes snuffling at his fingers which smell of jerky. 22 12.20

-Your pup has bones growing out of his back. I would've expected that on a breed like Petunia; that lab classified her as a death breed.- Bixby continues to talk occasionally in Ssakash, his voice lowered as his cousin wore herself out with misery to the point of falling asleep. He could hear the struggle of Poppy trying to get up, wanting to cuddle with his best friend. The two almost always slept together. He wanted his best friend not to be sad, it was plain in his body language. [Deathbreed?] Flare sounds a bit surprised; black as night with eerie milky eyes. His expression barely changes. But he's watching as the pup he'd come to visit is fighting his own body to get over and curl up with the little girl. Its muscle pains and joint pains, he's almost positive. He had to have something... something... Oh. What about THAT? This plant had medicinal properties for people. The ssashirk opens his book again and breaks off a chunk of what looks like a wicked plant claw. The dry snap of the root catches both the attentionf Bixby and the puppies. What is this? [Devil's claw] he tells the twintail boy, while prying off the lid on his galabex jerky. There were a few toy blocks in here, those would work as a crusher. It needed to be broken up to eat. 23 13.20

He told the twintail about wanting to break up the plant he had in the lid to the point of being able to mix it with hydrated jerky. With a lot of luck, Poppy wasn't a picky eater and would eat it. With the amount of devil's claw he had, it only needed about a third to sanction for what he estimated to be the pup's weight. With the increase of growth, he would be gaining weight, if eating. The pup obviously smelled that jerky and reacted to it; he was starvingly hungry but in too much pain to eat. The jaw must be lengthening too. The mental image of a ssashirk going through that... Flare almost winced physically, between seeing a young ssashirk with a relatively short snout vs his...own. Yeah, ouch. The sound of metal being placed caught his attention from crushing up the plant into pieces. Bixby procured somehow a metal dish with water in it, taking a piece of jerky from the open container that got handed to him upon request. The jerky got placed into the water for now. and set aside where Shabh couldn't reach it. I'll help you! The pup tried to push up his new pup friend from one side with Poppy fighting to get up. The whines and whimpers of pain he made were painful to hear even though the pup didn't understand. He had not bit or scratched this friend, why was he saying he hurt? Clumsy and awkward and in pain, the older rakai struggled over into being able to lay down with his girl. He loved her and would do anything for her. The feelign was mutual after all. 24 14.20

Shabh honestly didn't understand Poppy's desire to be near his girl. Granted, this was only his first day with his new owner. Is your owner that good, he wonders to his friend. The rakai makes a noise not reminescent of a sigh. His slight yips and mutters (not growls) tell the young puppy of being young and living in a cage. No humans to love, only food and the outsite to 'go', then back inside. He had no friends and no owners and waited. Forever it seemed. Finally his girl came, and they connected instantly. His lengthening tail thumps weakly, near the tip instead of the whole tail. It just clicked, he tells Shabh. He just knew, this would be the owner who I will love forever and she will love me. We together ever since. The squash pup looks back at the ssashirk, working to crush up a plant with a wooden block. To the pup, he just looked busy. Just clicks, huh... It took more time then he thought, but between the twintail doing the hydrating of the jerky and Flare focused on crushing up the devil's claw, it took half the time. And FINALLY, Cortana came back with a grocer's tote of ingredients. "I'm so sorry kids, took me going all the way out to Alura the plant lady to find yucca of all things. I also have the cayenne pepper and ginger you asked for- what are you mixing up boys?" she looks between them. Bixby answers her in that odd language; "Devil's claw? I haven't heard of it. Must be a Tumai restorative. Mixing it with jerky sounds good. Let's try it." 25 5/13 15.20

[Your aunt does not know Ssakash?] Flare asks the boy as she retreats to measure out the Cayenne he asks for, and mince the ginger up and the yucca root into a manageable, edible size for a puppy. The less chewing the better. [No. She knows Layan, for my father Mycroft speaks it fluently.] Flare wondered absently what Layan even was as he crushed the devil's claw. [Language of the fae, if you find time to look into and study it. An elegant language, and very attractive to females.] the smirk he wears saying that gives Flare the idea that he enjoys female attention a bit too much... Between the three working on the ingredients, the hydrated jerky is taken and chopped into small pieces. Flare instructing Cortana to mix only a pinch of cayenne into the meat and a bit of ginger for gut health. The taste was strong, so it needed to be sparing but still enough to do the job. Cayenne in small quanities was good. He hoped this worked. The pup had managed to move himself over into resting with his girl; and Shabh didn't... know what to do now. He just tilted his head back and forth, barked once and went to explore the room too. 26 16.20

Try as Flare might, his crushing implement wouldn't get through the harder seed pod shells of the devil's claw. The plant when dried became very tough to break up. He should've thought of this... and this devil's claw came as dried as could be. With a hissing sigh, he set down the bowl and the crusher. [Devils claw dree. Too tough to break uff.] he growls to himself. [Theres more natural ingredients to pick from, I am sure.] the humanish mentions as he kept a careful eye on the skeletal wing pup. He had a good point... there were more naturals. What was it... how about that one in particular? "Toomurick?" he asks Cortana, struggling with its pronunciation a bit. "Have that? Devil claw too hard. Bad choise." "...Oh, tumeric! Yes, we have that in the cabinet as well." the woman says after a beat or two of figuring out what he'd just said. "Do I need much?" Flare shook his head no. "Leettle bit. Veree strong tassste." 27 17.20

Tumeric and cayenne were popular spices in Tumai; either for bright color or a strong taste to the food. Tumeric wasn't spicy, just strong. It could be consumed as a concentrate or as a liquid with other vitamins. However to get Poppy to eat, he didn't want to upset the poor pup's stomach any further then it already could be from lack of ...anything. He watched Cortana bring out a tiny little jar of tumeric, with a matching tiny spoon for the powder. "Its a pricy spice to get here in the city; whatever the local food pantries sell doesn't extend far past oil, salt and pepper. The rest either is imported or you need to grow it yourself to save on price." almost as bad as saffron, which the tiny hairs of the flower's stamen were all that got sold of the plant for an excruciating price. [My aunt mentioned you were not from here, stranger.] Bixby glances at the curious ssashirk, owlishly watching his aunt preparing the foreign spices. His gaze keeps linger on the exploring pup. On Shabh, who keeps sniffing about. The larger pup's smell is all over the room. The smell of the little girl as well. The little human girl...who? 28 18.20

Inclining his head to the side jus a bit, Flare could see the boy watching him. Asking questions. His face made it a bit more difficult for humans to read his emotional state; which didn't phase the ssashirk one bit; the jaw and skin structure exposed teeth constantly, like a crocodile. and He hated it. Most of his outward emotions could be shown through the mouth or the eyes; and it took him a LONG time to figure out how not to show his emotions in his eyes. No thanks to that certain someone being able to read him like a ...a book. [No, I am not frrrom here.] he finally answers with the plainest expression of both face and eye that Flare could manage. A blank slate. Even the core's best truth seer held but a candle to his ability. The twintail's eyes narrowed a bit, trying to read him. Bixby didn't care for those who were uninteresting and boring. Their intentions were clear as day. This one, reminded him of a bank of fog. That, and he was accompanied by a young rakai who could be... 29 19.20
