Alouette threw herself from the canyon wall and landed immediately down on the rocks below; close by of course. Lashak were some of the best leapers, and it was easy to believe it watching this powerful (if not brightly colored) lashak take her leave from the family den. Frustrated, she finally manages to get down to the river and kick a huge rock, skipping it inadvertently against the river's surface. She would normally have watched it and thought it cool, perhaps, but she didn't even really think about it. She wasn't happy, and she was practically growling. Sneaking against the rock wall as she heard her father call out for her, Alouette hoped only to have some time to herself for once. She hated the fact that she felt so alone in a cave full of her family. Her clan. It hardly felt like home to her... Maybe she should just leave, she thought. [1]

Alouette was her father's first daughter, or at least the one that didn't wind up in the Rookery. Her mother was a lashak, she'd been told, one her father had not felt any regret over creating her with. However, her father didn't know how to raise someone like her; someone that wasn't quite as 'fast' as he was mentally. It made it hard and frustrating for her to learn anything, and he just didn't seem to have the time to slow down for her. She felt lonely, even when her father was there with her. Then he got bonded, and THEN he had children with another draconic (not her mother) and produced a whole new clutch with his 'mate'. Alouette had felt jealous, and now she just felt empty. She wasn't celebrated for what she enjoyed doing, or could do well. Only looked down on. She knew that even though everyone was trying to give her attention now... Too little, too late.

Alouette just didn't feel loved. Oh sure, her father loved everyone, he was the patriarch after all. She never wanted for anything; warm home, lots of family, and food galore. But she was lacking something, and that was something that she could never find out what the hole was even shaped like in order to fill. She finally just started spending more and more time out of the cave. Especially when her little half-siblings grew up, and one of them that still lived with the clan actually had a nest of her own. Absolutely distraught over this, and actively trying to convince herself that she was fine, Alouette could hardly stand to be at home when her half sister and niece were home. She hardly came home to sleep anymore. She moved along the river and wall as far as she could in five minutes, away from her father as the sun started to go down.

Bowser had been pretty lonely for a long time, but it suited him. The makiyan did not remember his parents, never knew them of course. He'd went straight to the Rookery after his birth, and that was fine by him. He never would know his family, either, and that was fine. It was the way of the canyon, some children would go to the rookery to be cared for until they found human companions. Possible adopters came and went, and he wanted out of the rookery. Sure, he could have left by himself, but he figured that he'd rather have a human companion to learn from. Ha, he had been wrong about that. It was fine, of course. He chose well, and ran a good hustle on the human. Adopted and perfectly fine, he was given an excellent observatory, and as much material as he had wanted to learn from. He was content for a long time to be that way. Now, it was time to go out, and grow up, Bowser decided one evening, right as rain. [4]

Bowser had known from birth that though he had wanted to have a humanoid show him the ropes, that he was whole from the start. Or at least whole to himself, he didn't need a bond. Having to take care of some wimpy humanoid would be harsh, and of course though he enjoyed his humanoid whenever they were around; he did realize that he hadn't seen them in a long time. Well, no matter. It was his life anyway. He steps out of his home, and looks back at it for a second, considering. Yeah, he'd be back later. He was just wanting to come out, and go on a walk. He needed to observe the way other draconics lived, for a long time before deciding where he wanted to go from here, now that he was grown. He was walking amicably along the river's edge on a rock outcropping when he saw an orange draconic ahead. How interesting?

Bowser spent a goodly amount of time sketching, from his high-up outpost up on the canyon wall. He had many sketches of draconics at home; pale white shalaya, little yellow slips of dancing kitava in groups, and long and lean purple makiyans catching fish in the river. However, Bowser had never seen someone with such a lovely and bright set of scales. His original mission set on the backburner, he just had to ask that draconic if they would pose for him. He really wanted to mix that lovely color with his paints just right. It was exciting to find such a lithe and neat body style! Plenty of Lashak were sketched on his many papers, of course, like other folk; but never one that was this lean... Some dancing DNA, perhaps? From a kitava ancestor? Mother or father, he wondered? He never knew his parents, and maybe it would be rude to ask... "Hello, there! You there!" He called out awkwardly, in his born-speaking common.

Alouette really, really didn't want to be bothered right now. She had been counting on another night in her special hidden nook (she had considered moving there permanently, but couldn't quite get herself to give up on her father enough to flee like that) along the wall; with the perfect acoustics so that she could sing. Of course, she did not know common, not a lot of it at least, a word here and there, since common was all her father spoke really. His draconic was terrible, and though she did know draconic much more easily (even the most base of draconics, carefully connected to the land, could learn draconic), it wasn't prized among the 'smarties' in her clan. She snorted already, just thinking about it, as she weaved against the rock wall. She loved to sing though, it required no words, and she had inherited a lovely voice. From dad? From mom? Who knew. Maybe a grandmother.

However, Alouette was stopped short with a word. At first, she thought it was her father. The language sounded the same; but it was so close... Mintaka could fly, but he rarely tried to fly around the daughter he failed to teach to do so. Her wings were folded against her body carefully. She huffed, and turned around angrily, her bright green eyes flashing, her claws extended hard- scratching the rock ground. Her tail whipped, dangerously covered in spines. "WHAT YOU WANT!" Alouette cried, in her semi-broken draconic, mostly out of laziness. She wasn't stupid, just because she couldn't catch human language easily like others seemed to be born today. At that, she saw a makiyan there. Colored up with pale purpley-hues. She was sick and tired of seeing purpley makiyans... He just reminded her of her sister. "GO AWAY." She huffed, a bit of ember flickering out of her nose as she snorted.

Bowser would not have expected, well, any of this. He wasn't sure what it was about her, other than the thing that had initially caught his attention, which was her lovely scale color. However, when the lashak turned around, a bunch of things jumped out at him. She had lovely green emerald eyes, absolutely shocking. Her wings faded into the most excellent shades of green from the orange of her body, and she had lovely fox-like socks on her legs. His breath caught in his throat. He'd seen many beautiful females from his haunt on the wall, but it never occurred to him that they would be so... Pretty up close. Across his shoulder his bag was slung, of course, with plenty of paper, and he drew in paint using his claws gently as possible. He wanted to paint her, she was just lovely. However; she was also angry. She barked something at him, and he realized it; oh. She couldn't speak common.

Bowser was not well versed in the ways of the canyon, but he did know that it was sometimes an issue; knowing common was not nearly as useful in the canyons as many individuals would perhaps think. He frowned, softly, and then smiled at her, showing his teeth in just a flash. She looked like a tiger, ready to pounce, and he had to commit that to memory. "Wa-wait?" He said, in common, his voice unsure. She had the loveliest voice, and he was not at all sure how to convey that. Heck, perhaps he was being rude, too rude to rectify the situation. He really should just remember her, and paint her, and be okay with that. But somehow, he knew that he would grow to regret that. So he tried, in the few words of draconic he knew. "No- nno- don't noo draconic." He stumbled out, looking sheepish. "You, you-" He stammered. "Pretty?" Oh no, that wasn't what he meant AT ALL.

So the syntax of common was not something that Alouette knew well enough to speak it, but she understood certain things in common. Things that her father said often; food (ram), family, pretty, that sort of thing. However, she wasn't expecting someone to have an issue... Speaking draconic. It was something most hatchlings learned from the start, just like any other race learning their base language. Of course her father didn't know it, but he was raised by humans. She, thankfully, had many role models to teach her on her adventures when daddy was gone. She still felt a little annoyed, being bothered, but hey, this could be fun too, she thought. At the very worst, she would fight him if she had to. She knew that her fire breath would be hard to beat, but she loved to spar claw-to-claw. Then again, he didn't look like much of a fighter... Meh.

Alouette's spine slicked ever so slightly down, just slightly, and then lowered her wings again. She hadn't noticed until now that she had tried to intimidate using her wings. What was this dude blabbing about over here? He was trying his hardest to speak draconic, but just wasn't able to do it. She flattened back down slightly, standing more like a dancer, like a kitava perhaps, on her toes than the flat walk of a lashak. She blinked slowly, watching him as he stammered and looked pretty ridiculous. Ah, now she was intrigued. He seemed clever; what carrying that bag and all. She moves straight up to him, her lean and lithe body beside his, and immediately she begins attempting to dig at his bag. "Bag? Bag. What? Bag." She tried, in common. Then in draconic. "Whats in bag?" She wasn't exactly good at either one, but much better at draconic.

Bowser was excellently skilled at committing movements to memory, since he spent so much time producing artwork (even if he never showed it to anyone) of other draconics. Of course, he also spent a lot of his time studying, and testing things, but he really loved to do artwork. He could barely remember what he had originally come out to do; oh yeah. He needed to learn from other draconics what... Well, living normally was like. He didn't like being completely alone all the time. However, this seemed... Well, he was enamored artistically with her. Art first, he thought. "Oh, I uh I didn't mean you're pretty, as in to hit on you, oh goodness- I meant pretty, like artistically, but of course you're pretty, I don't mean to insult you-" He was blabbing, back and forth in his native common and his broken draconic in a way that there was no way she would understand what he was saying.

That was when suddenly, she looked much less angry. Morphing smoothly from angry tiger to pretty delicate for a lashak was not what Bowser had been expecting. She was really pretty, delicate and powerful all in one. He wondered suddenly why his mouth felt a little dry, and why she was suddenly less upset, and of course coming closer to him. He didn't know how to react; just stiffened up for a moment as she came closer. Her eyes were quite stunning, and he couldn't help but blink as he watched the sunset's light in them. Then she passes him, and he suddenly moves, turning toward her, and of course realizing that she was interested in his bag. He felt a pang of possessiveness over his bag, and moved his body slightly to the side, not quite enough to keep her out of the bag. "Art." He said, in common. "Paintings in the bag." He said, finishing. He didn't know it in draconic.
