Renathan did like to spend moments of calm with his jibiji before beginning the training. Not every day was a stressful day, and he liked to spend most of his calm ones with the tiny bird. He takes a moment to survey her russet feathers, her cute face, and tiny arms. Her wings were very large for her size, especially for a jibiji, making her quite the strong flier. He wanted to, at some point, train her to be a bit more dexterous and to dodge things ever better in the air. He was quite afraid of a larger creature making a snack out of her if they weren't careful... He eventually planned to train her to return to hide in his braids at some point, to keep her close when he ventures out into the wild. He knew that she would make a good companion, even if she was super small and could easily be harmed.

Renathan had decided that he did want to train all of the colors first, and then work on other bits of training on a different day. He was thinking about training all of the easy things first, and then graduating up the difficulty scale until they were finished. He worried a lot about her ability to survive accidental battles... Then again, a wiurn or sarane would be impossible for her to beat regardless of her training. She was just so small! Renathan wondered if there was much other than a wiurn or a thundergug that could beat a wiurn or thundergug... Perhaps a crossbreed? Then again, not everyone trained their creatures as carefully as some others. Renathan pulls out three of the yarn balls from his bag to start out with, one in orange, one in green, and another in purple. This should do to start with, and were different enough not to cause her to have issues in shades, he hoped.

The tiny jibiji was already paying a whole lot of attention to the yarn balls. She caught on so well to training that it was absolutely possible that the whole 'familiar' thing or maybe the empathy thing was the cause? He wondered about that sometimes. He didn't know a whole lot about the empathy thing; when did it begin? Why did it begin? Was this something endemic to this continent, or was it something that had to do with the Lab creatures to begin with? Renathan didn't really know. He quietly pets the jibiji again, and then points to the orange yarn ball. "Auburn." He says, to get her attention. "Mii." He's pointing to the orange yarn ball, and moving his finger to press into it. "Mii." He repeats again. The tiny jibiji is quiet for a moment, her russet feathers keeping her very warm in the cold that was somewhat effecting Renathan.

Renathan shivers a bit, holding his tails up against him to keep him more warm. The jibiji looks up at him, and then down at the yarn balls. Renathan then specified one more time to make sure that it got across well enough. "Mii." His rests his hand on the orange yarn ball. Then he decided to get a move on with the training, to see if she was understanding that the color was different. He was careful not to indicate any of the other yarn balls that were identical except for the color. "Auburn, Ve'kree Mii." He was very proud that they were really getting into training, beginning to add the commands together well enough. The tiny jibiji didn't take much time to run over to the yarn ball that Renathan had indicated, and grasp it with her front limbs. Renathan was very proud! Renathan trades the yarn ball for a small seed, getting them well started for the day.

Auburn is super glad to get her first treat of the day! She opens the tiny seed, one of the smaller ones she notices, and gets at the tiny soft part inside. She feels a wave of contentment from Renathan, though she wasn't able to put a real name to the emotion of course. She was quite happy today, and Renathan seemed to be doing a little better now. That was very good. After getting rid of the seed shell, she can hear Renathan breathe out again- one of the many cues she'd picked up on that it was time to continue figuring out a command! Auburn really loved training days, she enjoyed getting lots of treats, and found figuring out how to get them both easy and entertaining enough! Renathan calls out the command again, and though his voice was deeper and stranger than the ones she made, she understood him quite well now. "Ve'kree, Mii!" She scrambles for the strange object that she could detect was some kind of paler and sunnier red- like a berry that wasn't quite ripe.

The tiny jibiji quickly grabs the orange yarn ball, and Renathan finds himself swelling with pride a bit. She really was getting this color thing, and he figured that if she was able to tell that this was the one she should go get and that it wasn't close to any of the other colors, that she must really be able to tell colors apart from one another better than most of the labs creatures. Renathan gives her a quick pet and then trades the yarn ball for a tiny seed again, happy to see her doing well again. He wondered if there would be anything that she wouldn't be too good at learning? Perhaps now that they were quite close, there wasn't much of anything they couldn't tackle that wasn't impossible for her to do physically. Renathan knew, for example, that there was no way that she could swim with all of that fur!

Renathan carefully trades another seed for the orange yarn ball, and then pulls a few more colors of yarn balls out from his backpack. This time, he pulled out red -which he figured would be very tempting- and yellow. He knew that these colors were at least similar to himself, and that it might be able to trick her in a pinch. The tiny creature soon was finished with her seed, tossing away the seed casing, and Renathan had just gotten done with putting the yarn balls in a random order, other than the red and orange ones, which were close together. "Ve'kree Mii." He states, giving no indication physically as to which of the yarn balls he wanted to her to pay attention to. The tiny jibiji rushes quickly to the orange one, having no issues at all, and Renathan marvels at her memory capabilities. He knew that she was no more clever than a vulticus, for example, but she did seem to get tricks quite easily.

The jibiji grabs the orange yarn ball and holds it up. The red one didn't seem to trip her up at all! Renathan was beginning to wonder if birds might just see colors even better than he could? He wasn't really all that sure. He wondered if there was a good way to figure that information out. Renathan trades out another small seed as a treat for getting the correct yarn ball, and then he takes all the yarn balls and mixes them up together while the jibiji snacks on the seed. He makes sure to place the orange yarn ball beside the yellow one this time, to see if that might trip her up this time. Renathan waits for a moment, and then calls out to the jibiji after she finishes her seed. "Ve'kree Mii!" Auburn once again hardly has any trouble at all, running straight to the orange yarn ball, and she holds it up for him to see. Renathan was very pleased with this outcome, and trades a seed for the yarn ball.

Renathan decided that they had gotten orange very well, so he picks up all of the yarn balls quickly, and returns them to his backpack. He really wanted to move on to something else, but he really did want to finish the colors at some point too... He would stick to his guns on continuing the color training for now at least. He knew that it was going to bore him overall, but he wanted to save a bit of the hard work he'd be doing later on for, well, later on! Renathan pulls out the yellow yarn ball, a purple yarn ball, and a pink yarn ball, and then places them on the table carefully. Auburn happily tosses the now empty seed shell, and looks at him intently, seeming to catch on to the fact that they were moving on to something new now. Renathan points to the yellow yarn ball specifically.

Renathan then called out the name of the color yellow in his native tongue. "Fae. Fae." He repeats a bit, touching the yellow yarn ball on the table to specify that this was the correct one. Auburn was already used to the idea that she was looking for color, which is very easy for her to see and understand. Renathan didn't know, but she actually saw colors better than he did, even knowing that the color of each yarn ball was actually a bit different, even to itself! Renathan would probably study this later the best he could, but most birds had ultra-violet color receptors. Renathan then calls out the command, which she was already beginning to equate with the color thanks to their deep bond and careful work. "Ve'kree Fae." He commands. The tiny jibiji moves forward and grabs the one he was pointing to, the yellow one, like the flowers that she saw sometimes in the summer.

The jibiji does easily pick out the yellow one, though Renathan suspects that it is because he was pointing to it while giving the new color command. He does trade a small seed for the yarn ball, knowing that if he used smaller seeds she would fill up much less quickly. He knew that she preferred the roasted seeds, especially the dark ones, but he didn't want to fill her tummy too quickly to finish the bulk of the training today. The tiny jibiji takes it in her front limbs and brings it to her beak, making quick work of the seed casing itself to get to that soft seed food inside. Renathan takes the yarn balls and places them in a random order, knowing that the small creature was beginning to get this very quickly, and that they may not have to work on the rest of the colors quite as long as the first couple.

Renathan waits until Auburn finishes her seed and tosses the seed casing away after she was done. Then, he calls out the command again, not indicating the correct yarn ball with a physical movement. "Ve'kree Fae." He specifies, and then grins beneath the mask. This kind of training was so calming, even in the chilly air. The tiny creature quickly makes her way to the yellow yarn ball without any issues, and Renathan was quite happy to see her doing well. Renathan continues to shiver, and wonders if he shouldn't be bringing his winter gear out a little early this year. He wasn't quite used to bringing his winter gear out until at least the second month of winter, but this year seemed colder than the last one was, at least. As soon as the jibiji grabbed the yellow yarn ball, Renathan quickly trades on the of the small seeds for it yet again. She seems happy enough!

Reanthan feels a bit of concern for a moment, and then raises up off of the bench to give himself a quick shake. Then, while the jibiji finished off her seed, he does a quick set of jumping jacks to warm himself up. The jibiji finishes off her seed quite quickly, tossing away the seed casing, and then watches Renathan with great interest. He normally didn't exercise here, so she was quite baffled. She tended to be a creature of some habits, and this was a new experience for her. This was the training area, but he was exercising like it was at home in the yard. She tilts her head, and almost as soon as it had began it was over. He sits back down, no longer shivering. She didn't really understand shivering, for one, she was at home in the coldest of weather, but she didn't think too much about it, not that she could too much.

Renathan takes all of the yarn balls and quickly rearranges them, adding some more from his backpack to make it more confusing... Well, hopefully. He was beginning to catch on to the fact that the tiny jibiji may not see colors like he did, and may not get them confused as easily as some of the other creatures he had. Renathan places the yellow yarn ball beside an orange and a green yarn ball, in an attempt to confuse her a tad bit. Renathan then called out the command, without giving any physical indication of what the correct yarn ball was. "Ve'kree Fae." The command rings out quite true, and the creature scrambles across the tabletop, easily picking out the yellow yarn ball away from the green and orange ones. She holds it up for him to see, and he exchanges it for a tiny seed as a treat. She was quite pleased, but he wanted to test out the trick another time before moving on to the next color.

Renathan quickly mixes up the yarn balls yet again, this time not leaving the yellow yarn ball next to anything else in particular, leaving it kind of obscured by all of the other yarn balls. Renathan hoped that this might give her more of a challenge, even if it was only a physical one. Renathan then waited for the creature to finish her tiny seed treat again. After a moment or two, she does finish it, throwing the seed casing away quite cutely! Renathan chuckles at her enthusiasm, which was at least twice that of any other creature he'd worked with so far. "Ve'kree Fae." He specified, and then finds it quite funny when the tiny creature scrambled to all of the yarn balls and then immediately threw herself into the pile; searching for that yellow yarn ball specifically. Renathan wondered why he hadn't tried this yet, as he laughed quite hard. It was funny; her little butt feathers sticking straight up as she scrambled into the yarn ball pile.
