They made another loop on the leash, and Kheisa thought she'd give him a mental break soon to sniff around and do whatever things were Vultion things to do. The first time training it was always best to give lots of breaks, to help with information absorption and to keep a pet from being overstimulated. They'd been at this for long enough that she was sure Soko could use a break once she was pretty sure he had figured out "leave it." Then after that maybe they could go back to his name training.
As they approached, she again said "Leave it," and used her body between him and the pile of treats to keep it easy to ignore.
"Yes! Good boy."
He earned a treat and some affectionate pets and scratches for his trouble. They made another loop, and this time Kheisa didn't actively use her body to prevent him from taking the treats, but when she said "Leave it," he nevertheless left it, and was rewarded with another treat.
This time, they came back the same way they went out, rather than make a full circle so Kheisa was always on the side of the treat pile. Soko now had no physical barrier to snatching up the whole pile, so when she said "Leave it," she could tell he was tempted, but when she put her hand on his neck he looked at her instead and kept walking. The mammalian of course immediately gave him his "Yes!" and "Good boy" and treat and scratches, then quick-stepped back to the pile, put each treat back in her pouch, and took out a few treats to give him a little party to celebrate what a good job he'd done leaving the temptations alone. She wasn't fully convinced he was solid with the command yet, but he was doing really well, and deserved a break.
