It was going to be tricky getting the crystal out of the wall, she didn't want to hit it straight on and get blown up or anything. Of course that was more of what happened whenever you tried to cut it, but hey, hitting it might do it too, she figured. Jack tilted her head and started to work around the side of the crystal to get it out a little bit better, it was always better when they rolled out on their own, but hey, it was something different. Actually, now that she thought about it... Jack grabbed her mallet and chisel and started using those instead of the pickaxe, she had better control over these than the pickaxe. Slowly she pounded away at the chisel with the mallet and hoped she would be able to get the crystal out of the wall as Grim worked on his own hole in the wall. He hadn't found anything yet though, she felt bad.

...What is that thing? The tunnel worm seemed to round a corner, and glance down the way towards the two beings... It was quite small for a tunnel worm, and appeared to attempt to decide whether or not going down this tunnel was going to be worth the trouble of going past the two beings. Usually, tunnel worms this size could get away pretty snappish, but it was quite small... The Tunnel worm appeared to make a decision, and went down the tunnel anyway, attempting to hide away from the two beings against the back wall. Would it succeed? It moved a rock from it's precarious perch, and made a noise. Oh no, that wasn't good.

Grim was the first to sense there was something wrong around them. He paused and sniffed the air, sensing something a lot different coming their way. They hadn't met with a lot of things down here yet, but there had to be something else living down here, he had his father after all! Grim's eyes narrowed a moment before he heard the noise and then turned to see what he saw. A worm, a big worm, at least bigger than there were up on the surface. He chuffed a little at the woman and then turned to look at it, tilting his head to see what he could do to the thing. While he wasn't sure what was going to happen, he was sure the woman wanted to try and catch it, it seemed like she was that kind of person. At the noise and the chuff from Grim, Jack turned and saw the worm against the wall, it wasn't very subtle. She smiled a little and put down her mallet and chisel. "Huh, hey there guy, what's up?" she asked softly, holding out a hand. Maybe she could actually charm this one instead of straight catching it.

The tunnel worm did not know what to think; in fact, it had figured it would get past without alerting the beings. Now, it felt quite a bit in danger! The tunnel worm scooted back flush against the wall, as if it were trying to get as far away as possible, and then stood up, trying to look bigger. If it had been one of the great worms, it wouldn't be having this issue right now! It turned towards the four-legged thing and exuded a loud hissing noise, and then turned back toward the two-legged thing and tried to look as intimidating as possible.
Yeah, this didn't go as well as it had planned at all. The mines were a dangerous place, sometimes.

It was hissing at her, not a good sign. With her leg being a little better at this point, she wondered if she could just jump on it without squishing it or something. At least it would be easier to get to it at the moment. Ah well, she figured she would try to charm it awhile longer before jumping it at the moment. Grim stood next to her, then wandered over to behind the worm and sniffed at it's tail end. He didn't know what to expect from it, it smelled a bit earthy, like clay packed dirt, and it was a decent smell to him, he figured. Jack reached out her hand a little closer to the worm, "Hey there buddy, no worries now, we won't hurt you if you don't make us." Of course it probably couldn't understand it, but it could at least hear the tone of her voice. Hopefully Grim's movements didn't startle it too much.

The creature was quiet for a moment, watching the movements of the two-legged creature. The voice sounded soothing, the creature was used to look shrieking and grinding noises from the usual creatures down here. Still, it took a moment for the nervous creature to begin to settle down a bit more. It does not move from the wall, but it does relax visibly. After a moment, it feels calm enough to slowly turn the sensing part of it's body towards the two creatures, one and then the other. They didn't seem too dangerous, maybe the four-legged thing seemed a little moreso. What did they want? It peeled away from the wall a bit, but only a small amount.

"See? We're not so bad," Jack said with a smile on her face as she took a small step forward with one foot only. Wondering how this was going to work out, she didn't know what else to do at the moment. All she could do was keep talking, but she could work with that, she felt. Jack smiled a bit and shook her head a little, she was being strange and didn't know what else to do, she remembered fighting the other worms, she really never tried charming them or anything. Ah well, new life meant new methods, so she was willing to try. Grim chuffed a little and sniffed at the worm a little bit more, wondering what it was going to do. He was just trying to keep it from running away back where it came from. If the woman was trying to catch it, he would help. He saw the woman pulling a bit of rope out of the wagon and make a loop as she talked in that calming voice. Ah, he had heard of this...

When the creature stepped towards the Tunnel worm, it didn't move at all. The tunnel worm didn't seem to notice, or maybe it just underestimated, the significance of the rope. It briefly considered running at the turn of the two-legged being, but decided ultimately that it would probably cause the being to be aggressive. Most creatures would chase a creature that was trying to flee. The tunnel worm did scoot forward, toward the two, 'looking' at them curiously with whatever it sensed them with, cautiously. Just what did they want from it? Momentarily, the tunnel worm forgot that it was probably a better idea to use the moment to get away, and instead watched the two, curiously.

If she didn't have to use it, she wouldn't and she knew it, but having some rope into a lasso would be brilliant if she needed it at this point. Jack smiled a little bit and shook her head, taking another step forward and sliding her hand down to brush the top of the worm's head before pulling her hand back a little bit. She kept it outstretched enough that she could have it sniff her if it wanted to, but not close enough to be threatening. Grim also took a small step forward, boxing the worm in a little bit, even though it had a decent way to escape if it needed to. Cornering an animal wasn't a good thing, they would get too aggressive, he knew he would be at least. Jack smiled a little and kept talking to it, "See we're not that bad, want to come with us? We can figure something out for you if you want, you know..."

This worm is quite sensitive it seems, because when the humanoid goes to touch it's head, it seems to sense it nearly before it happens. A hard decision is made to stay still, it didn't seem like the being was trying to eat it or anything? The worm moves forward, bringing it's sensing organs on it's 'front end' or 'face' to attempt to get a better idea of what these beings were. It had not seen anything like either of them in the time it had been down here; well, the four-legged thing did seem like some kind of crystal creature. The worm did not know what the being meant, of course, but the words were soothing, and maybe if it followed them gem thing around, they might find something tasty or neat?
The Worm has decided to go with you, despite it's original misgivings!

So now it seemed as though they had a worm to follow them along. They already had one of these at home, so she didn't know if she would try to sell this one or not. Jack sighed a little, patted it on the head with a smile, and then put it into the wagon where it curled up to try and figure out if it needed to rest a little or not. Apparently it took a bit out of an animal to get tamed, and she supposed she didn't blame it or anything, the adrenaline rush was high for her as well, she could only imagine what it was like for an animal as small as the worm. Pushing a hand through her hair, she patted Grim on the head for the help he had given her with taming the worm, and then looked back at the crystal in the wall. She still had to get that out.

What a pretty piece of metal; it was a gorgeous reddish coloration, and located very close by; perhaps the mining familiar could sense it? [66-70]

Jack stared at the crystal in the wall and wondered if she was going to be able to get it out soon or not. Of course she would manage to get it out of the wall, just the time it took was what bothered her right now. Giving a little sigh, she didn't know what else to do at the moment, but Grim continued digging in the hole he was making, as he wondered if he would manage to find anything as well. The worm was a little bit of a bust, but whatever happened, happened, she figured. She just wished it had come with a few stones, but they would find plenty more over the course of the time they spent in the mines. Now that her leg was better, it would be easier to keep up with Grim and continue their work, she figured she had a great deal more stamina now as well.

Well, at least she was trying, she figured as she took the mallet and chisel and started to work around the edges of the earth crystal once again. The worm had distracted her, but at least the stone hadn't disappeared back into the wall when she was looking at the worm. She could tell something was still calling to Grim, she just hoped that things would be alright after awhile, she figured. What was going to happen to him? She wondered that at least, but what else was she going to do while things were going down? Jack sighed and worked on the crystal some more, finally getting it out of the wall and into her hand, though there was quite a bit of rock still around it. That would be the issue for the gemstone people, she figured, if she used it for a piece of jewelry. Who knows, she might use it for a Node, but it all worked the same.

As she turned the crystal in her hand, she shrugged and put it into the special crystal pouch she had in the wagon. It was separate from the others, just because they were so volatile, but she figured that would be alright after awhile no matter what. Jack chuckled a little and then turned to start digging at the wall again, Grim glancing over at her as she worked the wall with the pickaxe like he was doing with his claws. They tore through the wall like butter, it seemed, she thought as she watched him out of the corner of her eye, and she hoped that was going to help them find some fire crystals after all. She needed four more to get a Greater Node, and that was all they needed. She had the mind crystal, the healing berries, her soul (of course), and two fire crystals already. It was enough for a Basic Node, but she didn't want that. Go big or go home, that was her motto.
