Renathan had perhaps not really expected to find so many geodes so quickly; but then again, they were a bit common in some areas down in the mines. He had no idea really what to think about that. They were still good for something, if only hardly. He could not use them to craft in any form of the word, however they were good for trades, perhaps, anyway. They needed to continue working, but Renathan had nearly forgotten what he was doing! Sarabi was playing around with the second geode now; chasing after it as it skittered along the ground. It was the first thing that made him feel like perhaps she wasn't all the way fully grown? The mammalian stood there for just a moment watching her and considering that before remembering that he was supposed to be remembering something that he had forgotten. It would seem that Renathan was really, truly out of it today.

There was only so much time that they had down here today, and Renathan was completely wasting that time forgetting things and feeling yicky and being somewhat confused about different things in general. He felt a bit terrible today; but he needed to get moving on in his life, and this was a rather good way of doing it all in all. Mining was supposed to be a calming and relatively nice thing to do, but sometimes he just didn't really feel completely in contact with the world about him, like now. Renathan shook his head, ears flopping just a bit as he did so, and eventually managed to pick up his pickaxe from where he had leaned it onto the wall from earlier; and that jogged his memory quite well enough. Behind him, he could hear the gargoyle playing with the skittering geodes, probably having the time of her life.

It was time to get to work, whether he wanted to or not. Renathan remembered that he was after a blue stone that he had found in the wall, and he nearly had it out of the wall too! It was time to get going and begin working on that again; since it was just there and ripe for the taking and all. The mammalian moved forward and swung the pick axe, hitting the wall just right. He sure was absent-minded today, but thankfully it was very important that the mining skills that he had developed over the years were basically like second nature to him; breathing almost. He had a bit of a hard time removing the rock because it appeared to be stuck in some sort of deposit, but soon he was left holding a blue gemstone covered in carrier stone that would need to be removed and worked on. Sarabi finally seemed to have stopped playing with the geodes for a minute.

Renathan put the pick axe down and leaned it against the wall, knowing that he was going to come for it in a few moments. First, however, he needed to finish field dressing the first blue stone, to make sure that it would be simple to clean up when he used it in his crafting later. That was the idea, anyway! Renathan walked over to the mining cart and dug around, rummaging for his smaller parts to begin removing the carrier stone from the blue stone. It was quite important to do that before going home, because if he was working on it at the same time as having to deal with the actual creation process, it would waste time and a lot of work. It would be more work without his tools, anyway. He knew that there would always be a bit left after field dressing, however. Sarabi had began digging in the wall again it would seem.

Renathan was glad that she had stopped playing with the geodes for a moment, because it was a lot of trouble in the long run if she wasn't helping. Sarabi was, in fact, a lot better than Renathan was at finding all kinds of things anyway. It was very important that they find as many gemstones as possible today; and Renathan was super excited about the prospect of it. That contest was something that Renathan was hyper focused on, and he needed to enter it, at least. The mammalian began removing the carrier stone from the blue gemstone with a practiced ease as soon as he found his small tools. He was very skilled with all aspects related to mining, perhaps even surprisingly to most, but he had been doing this for a very long time, anyway. Sarabi was chewing salt chunks again, and Renathan was wondering if she would need a source of water, soonish.

Renathan always left water out for the gargoyles, but he really couldn't tell if they were really... Drinking it. He wanted to make sure though. "Hey Sarabi, want a drink real fast?" Renathan had just finished taking the carrier stone off of the blue stone; so he had time to kill for a second. The gargoyle was quiet for a moment, chewing thoughtfully, but Renathan could tell that the poor creature didn't know what he was talking about. Renathan pulled a water bottle out of their backpack and then held it aloft, shaking it to get her attention. She turned around, tilted her head, and then Renathan poured the water into a collapsible food bowl for her. "You want some?" He repeated. He'd slowly teach her how to understand at least certain things, eventually. He put the bowl down near her, and simply waited. She'd either drink it, or she wouldn't.

She didn't really seem to want any, but Renathan left it there just in case. She was chewing on something else now, probably a type of salt perhaps? "Are you sure? You are eating a lot of salt, and that stuff makes most folks thirsty..." Renathan said, his voice echoing into the mining cavern. "Ugh, okay, just... Take a drink whenever you want." at this, he gave up just a tad and moved back over to the mining wall on his side. There was probably other stuff over here, he just needed to take a good look in the wall. He moved the light stick over to where he could see the wall much better and then looked for anything abnormal that might leave him with an impression that something could be there. Renathan was generally good at looking for slight differences in the mines; it was something he had gotten quite a lot of experience doing.

Eventually, Renathan heard a noise behind him, breaking his concentration. It would appear that finally, Sarabi was taking a drink. Renathan's concern finally floated away a bit, he had been quite worried that she was hurting herself somehow, and now it was a good sign. Perhaps he needed to add a salt-lick to the enclosure for the two gargoyles, if she had wanted it this bad? Or would she eat it all at once like this? That certainly would be pretty bad. He'd have to figure that one out, but it could be very important after all. "I see you are finally taking a drink. You are stubborn, aren't you, Sarabi?" The mammalian said, tsking. Afterwards, he dropped down and quickly gathered the two forgotten geodes. He placed them in the mining cart with the other things that they had found so far. He hoped to keep everything together.

There were four things in the mining cart from today's excursion so far, but Renathan was sure that they would find more! They needed so many more though, that he had no idea if they really would get there in the allotted time that they had today to be here. Renathan was only planning on this trip being so long, anyway, and he hardly had the energy to be here all day, that was for sure. Renathan tried not to think about it too much; but he hadn't been doing well lately. The tourney had really taken its toll on him and Shy Guy, and he really needed to be home helping him heal. Sure, the pit healers healed him bodily right away, but his mind wasn't healed, that was for sure. Sarabi was now digging in the wall again, undoubtedly looking for something else... But what would it be? Renathan was curious.

The mammalian eventually turned away, and then moved back over to the wall on the side that they had claimed since the gargoyle was working on the other side. He was looking the wall over using the light stick again, trying to find anything different along the rock that would suggest anything else to be hidden within it. Renathan finally found something a bit odd after looking for a few moments, a strange oddly colored bump that was quite different than the surrounding rock. That was generally a very good sign! Renathan touched it with his palm and tested it a bit with a claw, checking for hardness. Of course, nails had an incredibly low hardness, and it didn't do much of anything to it. The mammalian grabbed the pick axe and then grinned beneath the mask. This was going to be good; Renathan could hardly wait to see what this mysterious wall bump hid behind it!

Chipping, chipping away using the pickaxe. Renathan didn't normally hum as he worked, but he was doing so now. He was trying to keep his mind on happy things, but it was so hard to do at the moment. The tourney was still weighing heavily on his mind, even if he didn't have it in the forefront. Renathan was sure that they weren't going to do as much today as he had originally expected, but he was starting to want to get home in all honesty. He thought for a moment as he dug into the wall, and thought; one more hour; we'll stay here one more hour, and then we'll go home. He was trying to keep his mind on it, but it wasn't working all that well. Ah; after a moment of using the pickaxe on the wall, or maybe five, he finally found a glint of shine behind the wall. It made his pickaxe ring, and Sarabi turned around.

The mammalian leaned the pickaxe against the wall for a moment and then pulled a water bottle from his backpack. He needed to be able to take a good drink; he was getting kinda tired. He remembered getting sick earlier; and realized that it was probably why he was feeling even more off than usual. Ah, well, he thought. After he was done, he put the empty water bottle in the backpack and then tilted his head at Sarabi. "Hey Sarabi, did you finish your water, huh? Do you want some more?" It was practically rhetorical as he looked down into the water bowl that he had furnished for her. It still had water in it, so he figured it would be okay. "Alrighty, I think I just found some metal, Sarabi, what do you have that you're working on over here?" He asked, looking at her side for a moment.

Renathan put his leathery palm on the wall, getting a good feel past the salt. "Oh, looks like more geodes, like, at least one more." Renathan said, a slight frown on his face. At least geodes did have some use, even if they weren't really useful for his crafting. This was certainly way more geodes than he thought he would find; but sometimes that sort of thing just happened. He was glad that he had found some metals this trip, however. Renathan patted Sarabi's shoulder carefully. "Sooner or later, we'll teach you how to communicate. That would be quite useful for these little trips we take, Right Sarabi?" That would be good in the long run, then they could talk about what they wanted to find that day. Well, maybe not verbally talk of course. The mammalian returned to his own wall, and prepared to pick at the wall again.

Renathan picked up the pickaxe, and then looked for the best ways in the wall how to remove this metal from the wall. Metal was sometimes a bit trickier; since it generally came in a vein and those were sometimes hard to remove by hand. Sometimes they were even impossible to do by hand! This one looked promising, however. Renathan gave his shoulders a quick roll to make sure he was ready; mining made him stiff quite often. Then, Renathan began using the pickaxe to dig into the wall, to remove the metal the best he could. The mammalian had done this quite a few times before and was beyond ready to get it done, and it showed. The metal was being slowly chipped out of the wall, with minimal loss of the metal. He'd have to get it in better light to tell which sort of metal it was. Two metals in one trip; that was so good!
