‘Breath in, hold, breath out.’ Blinking blearily for a second as moister gathers in his eyes he looks around in the dark, shivering despites the leather coat he wears to keep some of the cold away, the warmth Dysis emits on his shoulder from her mere presence seems almost flimsy, though really, it isn’t the air that makes him feel so cold. It’s the thoughts that he might never be able to escape this nightmare of a garden, and the misery he feels inside of himself. He is almost certain that he has been walking for a few hours going into one direction, but it never seems to end, everything looks the same. He only took a small break with Dysis to feed her some treats and drink a bit of water from his canteen till she had enough and he took only two sips before screwing the lid back on it and gathered his things in the backpack, even a small glass marble he found under some leaves was dropped in it before placing the bag back on him, and getting bitten by Dysis when he accidently let go of one of the straps near her legs too soon.

‘There has to be a way out of here somehow.’ He tries to be optimistic about it, but really, its only the desperation of getting out of here that seems to keep him going. He should have stayed in that reception room, the warmth might have beckoned him to go to sleep more then he would have liked, but at least there where three doors leading to somewhere. “Shi-!” He tried to take another careful step through the vines, but he hadn’t watched carefully enough. One of the vines was longer then the others and somehow it entangled his legs, causing him to trip when he tried taking another step. “Triii!” Dysis flies up from his shoulder when she notices the sudden drop in height, not wanting to accidentally be getting squished had she stayed and clung on his shoulder. “Trri?” She trills questioningly as she hears him panting, carefully she flies down to land on a large pumpkin and watches him for a moment. ‘Okay?’ “Trii?” She tries, worriedly looking up at him as she sees him suddenly move his head quickly, facing her with a surprised look in his eyes from what little she can tell she sees in the dark.

“So you can say more tha-“ He cuts himself off abruptly, staring at Dysis strangely as he sees her looking at him with what might be in a worried state, while clinging on a large pumpkin now that he gets a closer look at it to see what exactly those things are. ‘I’m fine.’ He says instead of finishing what he said out loud. He wasn’t going to admit to any weaknesses on his part, he won’t allow anyone to think he has that. Gritting his teeth, he slowly starts to stand up again, keeping any expression of pain to himself, and he can feel that he is most certainly collecting a couple new bruises aside from the ones he got yesterday with the stairs. Hissing slightly as the bruise on his hip makes its presence known in the form of throbbing painfully on the outer layer of his skin. He tries to ignore it as best as he can. Just standing up feels like a chore.

Sighing, he slowly looks around in the dark, the moonlight gives it just enough light that he could somewhat see where not to step with the way the leaves of the vines seems to shine just the slightest. But as proven with how he tripped, that in no way makes it easy to walk here without even a torchlight at his side to see what is going on around him more than hearing now and then the rustling of leaves from the vines in the distance that could indicate something small is walking under it. He hasn’t heard the sound of birds yet in the death of night, which isn’t too surprising as most bird species are not exactly nocturnal. Looking behind him, he can still very faintly see the stone stairs in the distance that rise high above the vegetation, the moonlight at least shining on it in the best way possible with how much the light gray stones seem to shine. ‘Likely a similar one should be somewhere else in this field too, right?’ He ponders, clinging to the hope that something similar might be farther away, and that at least that door is corporeal. Glancing at Dysis, he sees she hadn’t moved away from the pumpkin she is clinging on, nor had she looked away from him while he was busy staring off in the distance. Her antennae twitching just slightly.

Biting his underlip lightly he bends down to offer his right hand to her. ‘Ready to go further?’ He says in his mind to her, wondering if she would say something more finally to him. He might not like talking too much at all to anyone, but he does feel like those he considers his should be just a bit of an exception to it. After all, how can they serve or be of use to him if they don’t know him all that well? He’s still trying to go past that stage when it comes to his Draconics, but it feels difficult at times. ‘Yes~!’ “Triii~!” He hears her both say in his mind and out loud for some reason, making one side of his lips twitch upwards involuntarily into a smirk as she starts to climb on to his hand and then slowly makes her way up his arm and to his shoulder, a rather favorite position of her it seems. Once she is all the way up, he sighs softly. Right, best not dally to long and get locked in here till they die from thirst. Those pumpkins might at least be a bit edible raw perhaps, but they also seem to lack any juice to quench the thirst adequately.

“Trii? Trrriiii~” ‘We go? Let’s walk~’ He hears her say to him cheerfully in an almost sing song voice when he hears her words inside his mind, it seems he had been staring farther ahead of them again, getting lost in thoughts once more. He didn’t give any indication of having heard her verbally, instead he just went ahead with walking again. Making certain to avoid tripping once more, as likely he might hit himself next time against a large pumpkin, he’s just lucky that it wasn’t the case this time and he barely avoided it. Dysis had landed on a large pumpkin after all, and it had been right in front of him after he had tripped. On one occasion when he stepped over some high vines and looked up to stare in the distance, he furrows his eyebrows as he sees something white? Or is it light grey? He can’t tell quite yet with the distance between him and what might or might not be an object that is shining like a beacon thanks to the moonlight, but it looks familiar. Could it be?

He hesitates for only a second at the sight, wondering if mayhaps he somehow walked in a circle, or his mind is playing tricks on him. But he didn’t think much further on it, nor let the slight hope he has die out, that just maybe it similar like the way he entered and could be a way out for them. A way out of this endless night that seems to trap people for hours, maybe even days for those truly unlucky. Placing his hand on Dysis back, he scratches her lightly there, getting what is likely a happy trill for his effort in return as she cozies up a bit closer to his hand, and allowing his fingers to touch her right between where her wings are connected. He hesitates slightly when that happens, turning his head just enough so that he can more easily look at Dysis face while her wings obscure his hand from sight. ‘You sure that is a good idea?’ He decides to ask, as he remembers with smaller butterflies the wings seems to leave dust behind if he touches them too forcefully.

Dysis swerves her head in his direction, looking curiously at him as she seems to try and figure out what he had said just now. Tilting her head a little to the side, he sees one antennae raised while the other stays low and slightly bend. It reminds him of something but he can’t say for certain what exactly. ‘Is ok!’ She almost seems to chirp in his mind without the accompanying trill she usually seems to do verbally. He’s still surprised she seems to talk more then before he took this trip to find some way to distract himself from his need to sleep. Slowly he let his fingers just touch between her wings, carefully and softly. Even if she didn’t mind it and is actually allowed to touch her wings, he’d rather wait with trying something like that in which he can actually see what the effect would have on doing such a thing. After a minute of petting her softly he decides it might be better to just continue with walking, that object or whatever it could be in the distance might not seem to move, but doing nothing but standing still also won’t make it come closer to them either.

Keeping his hands close to his side again he starts to carefully step around some of the large objects he is starting to identify as pumpkin when they are large and round and something very like it perhaps when it is elongated in shape. He doesn’t care about it enough to see what it actually is, he just steps around them when ever possible or over it while keeping track of where he needs to walk to. The path is definitely not a straight forward one, and while he feels exhausted from all the activity that he has done, he doesn’t want to rest until he finds out if it would indeed help them get out of this place. The doorway he left behind is something he can no longer see anymore, nor is he entirely certain if it would be possible for him to find it again as the method of going straight in one direction has become skewed the moment he fell and saw in the far distance more to the right something that looked similar to what he had left behind, although he is fairly certain it couldn’t be the same one he had seen hours ago. “Trri?” ‘Food?’ He hears Dysis suddenly say in his mind, making him turn his head slightly in her direction so that he could see her better. It seems her method of only saying one word has returned again, he thinks morosely.

‘One would think you’ve eaten plenty when you started on that turkey Dysis.’ He says sarcastically in his mind as he starts to carefully take her off his shoulder by picking her up at her belly, and then setting her down on a large pumpkin on his left. Interestingly enough, while he knows pumpkins could be more then half a meter big, these ones seems to be at its largest currently only about forty centimeters. Which, while still a hassle to walk in the field because of it, he doesn’t need to climb over them at least. Shaking his head at the most random information that keeps distracting him, he sighs slightly as he shifts the straps off his shoulder and lowers the backpack on the ground, zipping open the bag, he rummages through it by touch alone. Trying to find that canteen first to sip some water from it, even Dysis might be more thirsty then she lets on as she is usually more interested in food.

‘Maybe I should name her as Glutton? Or Bottomless Pit?’ He wonders with a small chuckle as he finally finds the canteen and with shaking hands unscrews the lid off it, taking only a few sips of the water that tastes quite frankly, refreshing. He hadn’t realized his mouth is getting so dry that only now he feels it was like that. Still, he had only taken one canteen with him so he needs to ration out just how much he is taking from it. Giving Dysis some of the water from it, he is careful enough to make it only be two sips of what he normally takes and no more than that as she mostly licks the moisture off of it when it comes close to the opening, screwing the lid back on when she is done and placing it in his backpack. Than taking out the treat packet to give her a few of that. “Trrrii!” He hears her trill to him, as she is quicker to munch on them then she was with drinking.

Once Dysis is done with emptying his palm of the treat, she nudges with her head against his fingers softly. ‘More?’ She says to him in his mind, her eyes staring longingly at the packet from what he can tell. ‘No, you’ve had enough for now.’ He decides after a moment of contemplating on it. While she is behaving herself, he’d rather not spoil her too much with this either. Packing up his supplies he starts to notice something else on the ground between the vines. The area is just large enough that he spots two orbs and something that is four legged in shape. Picking up the orbs he can’t quite tell what it could be, the light of the moon just isn’t bright enough to tell. He only knows it feels smooth to the touch. Storing them in his bag, he then picks up the last object. Rubbing his thumb on it makes him think the object might be made out of straw? “..” Sighing he decides it might be best to just take it along with him, and see later on what else it actually is once he escaped this place.

Storing the last of the objects in his bag, he quickly zips it closed and picks it up, settling the straps comfortable on his shoulders without any of it being twisted, the backpack rests comfortable behind him again. “As for you.” He muses out loud, bending down he picks her carefully up, gaining a surprised trill in return from her as she flaps her wings only twice before settling down again on top of his palm and drops her gently on his left shoulder, feeling the warmth she produces naturally on that side now, he waits only long enough to make sure she is clinging on to him and doesn’t risk falling off of him before starting the journey once more. ‘It might only be a eight hundred meters now.’ He thinks hopefully as the object becomes larger in his field of vision. He is starting to see that the object from a distance is almost exactly like the one he came from, it certainly looks more like stairs reaching for the sky. And while he can’t quite yet see a door, he keeps the hope burning inside his chest that it might very well be there and is just too dark to see from this distance.

‘Just a few feet more, and then some more.’ He keeps grimly in mind, those vines and pumpkins are really starting to bother him in that it keeps slowing him down so much as he needs to keep the pace to just walking, if he’d been able to run through the field without tripping than getting from one point to the other would have gone so much more smoothly. But he doesn’t see any other option then taking things slowly, or else he’ll just feel the bruises again on his body when it could have been prevented. The feeling of Dysis making her way slowly to his right shoulder makes him stop for a moment, standing still so that she can easily crawl on top of his backpack, and from there to his right. Why she seems to prefer that side he has no idea, but at least it only takes her a minute to get settled again, and he can continue walking once more.
