Renathan knew that they were really on to something now! Renathan gave the creature a quick break, knowing that his poor leg was probably smarting quite a bit. Renathan poured him a transportable bowl of water and then took a drink from a separate bottle of water himself. After the two were well hydrated, Renathan decided to continue with the training. The chocolate colored chiryma was able to work quite well with it; Renathan calling out the command, "Dormant!" The creature would then immediately lower himself to the ground, and laid down. Renathan was pleased with this, and gave the creature a jerky piece and lots of praise each time it was performed. Renathan also tried to trick him several times with similar words, but none of them had Lisle confused. Renathan was finally pleased with how well Lisle was doing and decided that it was time to move on to the next behavior that he wanted to work on.

Renathan knew that he wanted to teach Lisle how to crawl while being close to the ground, in order for the creature to be able to hide or escape in situations like being shot at or without being seen by creatures when hiding in tall grass. He figured that this would allow Lisle to be taught how to sneak while hunting a lot easier. At least that was what he hoped. He figured that this would be like the at-ease command. This was actually why they had just worked on the behavior for laying down. Renathan was trying to figure out exactly how he was going to train this though... He knew that he was going to have to get the creature to lay down, but he wasn't sure how to get him to come forward without using another command. He wanted it to be all connected to just the one command word, to make it easier for later.

Renathan finally figured out what he was going to try first, and then put his plan into action. Renathan got Lisle's attention the best he could, and then he asked him to lay down again. When Lisle had done so, Renathan got down on the ground himself, and put his hand on the creature's leg. "Lisle, Shinobi." Then, Renathan pushed him to go forward, and began crawling forward himself. Lisle stared at him with lots of confusion, but kind of half-moved forward, his leg impeding him a little bit more than what either of them really expected. Renathan still gave him lots of praise for trying. Well, they'd have to try again. "Lisle, Shinobi!" He said again, and then he pushed on the back of the chiryma, directing him forward while also crawling forward yet again himself. Lisle made it a few steps this time, that leg certainly giving him a bit of difficulty. However, Renathan was pleased enough with the progress.

The mammalian praised the chocolate colored chiryma for his hard work, despite the leg issues, and he fished around in his pouch for another piece of jerky... Yes, they were running out; only about twenty small pieces left he was sure. After this trick today they would have to go home, since Renathan wouldn't have any more jerky for the creature, he was sure. He wondered vaguely if Lisle would tolerate training without the jerky... He was reminded of the times when Lisle was younger and less confident in his training, when he wouldn't take the jerky every time. Now he seemed to know or learn quite a bit quicker. Renathan gave the creature the piece of jerky and then waited until he was finished with it before continuing. "Lisle, Shinobi." He called out, and the chocolate colored chiryma began moving forward in the best 'crawling' way that he could, his head close to the ground like Renathan was as Renathan was crawling right beside him.

Renathan knew that the chiryma was having a hard time with it, both because it only had two legs, and because one of the legs was damaged. Renathan stopped after only a little while, and gave the chiryma another piece of jerky for doing well. Lisle gave him a determined look as he took the jerky piece, as if he was saying 'don't worry, I've got this'. Renathan did worry somewhat about the leg, but he had learned that Lisle was always willing to try very hard for him. After a bit, Renathan called out the command yet again, "Lisle, Shinobi!" He was pleased to note that he didn't have to wait long, even without doing the action himself. Lisle quickly began moving forward, pushing himself even further this time. He did seem to be tiring a bit, but Renathan knew that he would push as far as he had to; and this was probably building up leg muscle too. Another piece of jerky is given to the creature, as well as lots of praise.

After this, Renathan gave the at-ease command so that the chiryma could stand up. He poured the creature some more water to drink, since the day was quite warm for a late winter day. Lisle drank from the bowl and stretched his leg a bit, holding it up off of the ground and then putting it back down quietly, repeatedly. Renathan checked the leg gently, and found that it didn't seem to be causing any tenderness or anything. Renathan decided to perform a few more repetitions of the combat-crawl, this time calling out the command while the creature was standing up. Luckily, Lisle seemed to catch that in order to perform that action, he had to be laying down, so he bent down and moved forward, his head close to the ground. Renathan ran him through the command again and again until he ran out of jerky. He figured that they had worked quite enough for the day and he felt like Lisle had the command, so he packed them up and took them on home.

Renathan came back the next day, knowing that because Lisle was growing fast, that he wouldn't have much more time before he was an adult to get certain things trained. Renathan was glad to see that his leg seemed to be improving with his continued growth; but it was still quite a bit of an issue. Today, Renathan lead him using the typical lead line, and they got there quite a bit earlier than Renathan had expected because for whatever reason, Lisle appeared to be walking a bit faster today. Perhaps it was the added length of his legs that Renathan had not really noticed previously? He wasn't super sure. Renathan knew what they were going to work on today, and he didn't have a whole lot of time, so he got Lisle all situated as soon as they got to the usual training spot. He decided that he was going to teach him to lick his wounds first.

Renathan didn't have any new wounds on Lisle to teach this with, and he was incredibly reluctant to even cause a scratch on him. So he figured that he'd use his own skin and false 'wounds' to work on this with. He then planned to teach the chiryma to lick using the leg scars, that way the creature would know to lick wounds when Renathan called the command out. Renathan had to think of a command though; what would make a good one? He made the decision to make it a similar word to the other ones he was using for other commands, since that would help him remember it and he knew it would work out well. Renathan went ahead and gently scratched his hand on top of it, leaving a thin line of blood. Then he pointed to it, and made a false 'licking' motion, not touching his hand of course. "Couchant." He specified. "Couchant." He repeated.

Renathan then moved forward and shoved his arm underneath Lisle's face, repeating, "Lisle, Couchant." This time adding the creature's name in an attempt to get his attention. Lisle, by this point, was beginning to realize that the words, when specified like that, meant that he was learning to do a new thing. He could also tell by the way that Renathan's emotions were subtly hinting at this fact. Chiryma were quite good at understanding that sort of thing, certainly! Renathan was quiet as the Chiryma sniffed it, and then made a somewhat unnatural-for-a-bird lapping motion. At that, Renathan pushed forward and moved the small scratch to where it would be licked by the bird doing that motion. Renathan was pleased with this; and showered the chiryma with pets and praise, and then offered him a piece of jerky. He appeared confused at first, but Renathan could already see the understanding pass across his face and settle into his eyes.

Renathan then decided to move on to transferring this onto the creature's own body, since the whole lick wounds thing was primarily for helping a creature's own wounds to get much better. He didn't even know if it was really healthy to allow a creature to lick your wounds? That would be pretty weird. His demonstration had been just that, a demonstration. Renathan then pointed to Lisle's old injury scars, and then repeated the word. "Lisle, Couchant." He waited for a moment, and then was quite pleased to see Lisle sniff at this area and then give Renathan a kind of look before lapping at it, touching the tongue to it. Renathan was pleased with this, and gave him a piece of jerky and lots of praise as a reward. Then, Renathan went into his backpack, and pulled out some food-safe goop he'd made out of red berries. Renathan rubbed a bit on Lisle's front limb, and then pointed at it. "Lisle, Couchant."

Renathan did not have to point long at all. The chiryma immediately leaned down, more sure of himself this time, and began licking up the edible red paint-like substance. Renathan was very happy to see this, and he immediately gave Lisle a jerky piece for this behavior. He then moved on to going back over other commands they had worked on previously, letting Lisle forget this for now. Then, Renathan called to the Lisle, "Lisle, Couchant." The creature was quiet for a moment, and then picked a spot on his body and began licking. Renathan gave him a piece of jerky, and then he quickly painted another false 'wound' on the creature to keep working on this. Renathan kept calling out the command, and then giving him a piece of jerky and lots of praise for each time he succeeded. Renathan figured that Lisle would most likely lick any wounds he indicated using the Couchant command, so he decided to move on to something else after he kept performing the action properly, even between the other commands.

Renathan wanted to teach just one more thing today; he knew that a lot of the things on his list would require Lisle to be older, and he wanted to get the ones that could be done as a juvie finished now. He knew that it was going to be hard work to get through the rest of the list, but he was already almost done with Auburn's list, and soon it would be time to start working on another creature's list. He wanted to get as much done with Lisle as possible before he'd have to take on a completely untrained creature again. Shy Guy still needed his list worked on, after all. Renathan knew that he could probably teach Lisle to 'stalk' his prey before becoming an adult, or at least get him used to following the command. Renathan knew that chiryma were omnivorous and hunters, so he hoped that the creature would take on well.

Renathan took the creature over to an area with lots of bushes and such, and a few rocks. He'd scoped this place out a long while back for working with Shy Guy, and had just never gotten around to using it. The mammalian took a small cage of live grubble from his backpack, and then he let Lisle off of the halter completely for this one. He knew that he would have to have full range of motion for this one. Renathan ordered Lisle to 'cover' himself- so that he would hide somewhere. As soon as Lisle did so, Renathan released the slow-moving live grubbles onto the ground. He figured that Lisle would get a natural instinct to try to hunt them, especially now that he was older. Renathan was quiet, looking for Lisle for a moment and honestly having a hard time finding him. He was staring out at the grubble intently, with a strange look in his eyes, but also didn't move. He hadn't been told that the command was released yet, after all.

Renathan was glad that they had already been working on these two commands before trying this one out. Renathan called out the command he had chosen previously, "Lisle, Kunoichi." Renathan could feel Lisle on the other end of the link grow confused, knowing that this was a new command, but not being sure what to do about it quite yet. Renathan then made a quick motion towards the grubble, and made himself feel a bit aggressive in an attempt to help, hopefully getting that through the emotional link well enough. "Lisle, Kunoichi." The creature looked excited, suddenly getting, at the very least, that he was free to attack the live grubble. He comes out of hiding in one fell swoop, and then snaps up a grubble. Renathan quickly removed the rest of the grubble, and then gave Lisle lots of pets and praise for doing a good job. Lisle seemed concerned at first, glancing at him, and then at the cage of grubble. Perhaps he would get it soon.

Renathan then called out the command again, "Lisle, Kunoichi!" The creature seemed concerned for a moment, looking for grubble that was free and not seeing any, so he wasn't sure what to do. Renathan gestured towards the bushes, with a quick wink. Lisle looks concerned at him, and then back and forth at the bushes. Renathan then uses his body to push Lisle slightly forward, toward the bushes, calling the command yet again. "Lisle, Kunoichi!" Lisle takes the hint, and moves toward the bushes, instinctively getting into position of hiding again, moving along them this time. Renathan allowed a single grubble to be on the ground in front of him. Lisle did not attack the creature immediately, knowing that he should not consider himself free to do so until the command was lifted. Renathan let the live grubble run around for a while, and watched happily as Lisle snuck around and around, behind rocks and in bushes, as quietly as he could have hoped despite the leg.
