Renathan smiled and watched Jack with a bit of wonder as she laughed. He got a little lost in that, actually, almost missing what she said afterward. He shook his head, at that. "You have to be a little bit quick on your feet, right?" He felt that way a lot, actually. He blushed a bit heavily as he noticed that she blushed; and was a bit dry mouthed for a moment. "I uh, I, thanks?" He was completely tongue-tied, the poor individual. He caught up with her quickly, noticing that he had stopped for a quick heartbeat.
He hadn't even noticed when they had got to the house! Woops! He followed her in, smiling. "I like mine rare, but if you find it gross, I wouldn't mind having it a little more done." He knew that some folks found it to be unappetizing, and he was understanding of that. Those steaks looked great though, he marveled at them. "You picked the prettiest steaks ever."
Renathan washed his hands as well, and then smiled as he was told where the board was. He thought she had meant the cutting board at first, but when he looked he smiled. "There is so much here! You have so many critters, and so many plans!" He was happy about that; that was very good. "Do you have a cutting board? So that I can work with the fruits and vegetables?" He asked, kindly. He put the aforementioned fruits and veggies right in the basket. "Juice is good, I'll take water if you'd prefer." He smiled, deeply, and took his mask off, laying it away from the table and food, of course.

"I guess I do, with all the animals I have," she said with a bit of a nod, she hadn't thought of that before now, she supposed, but he wasn't wrong! She smiled a little and nudged him a bit before digging in one of her cupboards and pulling out a board, "Here you are, and knives are in the drawer right in front of you if you need one." Her smile burned brighter when he complimented her steak choices, she liked to think she picked good steak, but she was never sure unless someone told her as much, "Thank you! I'll cook yours rare, mine medium rare." A nod of finality and that was that, it was, simply put, the way it was going to be from now on whenever she cooked for him. Which she hoped was a lot.
What?
She shook her head a little and let out a deep breath she didn't know she'd been holding. Something strange was happening to her and she didn't know what it was. Ah well... "Here, all done!" she said, taking off her steak a little after she had taken Renathan's off, getting them to the best amount of pink she could get for them both in the center of them. Jack packaged them up and put them into a bigger picnic basket along with plates, knives, forks, and spoons, then she looked in her icebox and frowned for a moment before shaking her head and taking out a few bottles, "We'll just have both! Apple juice alright with you?" She put the bottles of juice and water in the basket and left room for the fruits and vegetables. "Once you're done we'll go ahead and head out then!"

Renathan felt a bit nervous before, but now he wasn't really nervous at all. He felt very... Anxious, but in a good way. More like he was excited, and perhaps a little worried that he might screw it up, but he was beginning to feel a lot less of that as well. They'd eaten together before, and he didn't mess it up then, right? "Thank you!" He said cheerily, and began chopping the vegetables using one of the proper knives on the cutting board. After he was done, he made a gentle mix of them, laying them out in an artful way on a large platter. Then, when he turned around, he grinned. "Oh that smells so good!" He said, putting the prepared garden veggies and fruits in a small container he found with the other dishes.
Renathan smiled and helped to get everything together with her, the best he could without getting in the way. "Thank you so much! Apple juice is fine by me." He did really like apple juice, that was for sure! "Oh I can't wait, this is going to be so-" romantic? "fun, and I am glad you are coming with me. This was a great idea." He blushed a bit, making sure that the veggies were fit in the basket just fine. The proximity made him blush.

"I'm just glad you went along for it!" Jack answered with a smile, then gathered up the basket when everything had been put into it and motioned toward the door, "You ready?" She let Renathan out first, if he did so, and then closed the door behind her. Kro knew who was allowed and who wasn't, as did a few of the Sarane, so she knew she was rather well protected against anyone who might try to rob her. Giving a smile, she led the way to the gardens and then found hers. The sun was setting, the sky was a deep blue and black apart from a rainbow of pinks and oranges at the moment. She looked over at Renathan fondly and then gestured toward the gazebo, "After you!" Walking up the few steps to it, she pulled everything out, served the both of them, and then smiled at Renathan again, "Thanks for coming along, I know it's odd..."

Renathan almost forgets his mask; and then scoops it up off of the table, putting it on his face. He still didn't want to let go of that tradition, it was important to him. He was going to be out in nature; nature with Jack, and nothing was better! He was so happy. Renathan followed after her, not really even thinking about anything; his feet hardly even touching the ground; or so that was what it felt like. He was surprised at her garden again, it was just so beautiful. He looked over the sky; it was like an impressionistic painting. He grinned softly, beneath the mask, and took it off again. Sometimes he forgot that it was even there! He stared at the sunset for a second, going on autopilot as he suddenly thought about things like tradition, happiness, and nature. He felt... Calm. At peace. It was nice; he could tell that there was a good calming line here. He shook his head, snapping himself from his reverie. "Oh, it's not odd! Don't worry about that, I love nature, your garden is great- and... You are a really good person." There's the cold-sweats again, goodness! He was so nervous suddenly.

Jack chuckled as she started to eat and then shook her head, "I guess I don't know about being good, but I try I suppose." The steak was good, and she picked up one of the vegetables and nibbled on it before taking a sip of water. The food was amazing but her stomach rolled for some reason. She chuckled again, this time a little nervously as she finished her food and then leaned back in the gazebo to look at the sky. Attempting to stifle a yawn and not quite succeeding somehow, she watched as the sun slowly dipped under the horizon. "Is the food good?" she asked Renathan with a smile, enjoying looking at his face and not the mask as she often had to in public. The garden was fairly secluded though, which was really nice, it let them both be themselves for awhile she supposed.
"At least the sunset looks really nice," Jack told him with a smile as she leaned closer to him to lay her head on his shoulder, if he was alright with it of course. Looping an arm through his she yawned again, her eyes heavy and closing slowly as she looked up at him, a bit adoringly. "You know..." she said sleepily before she finally dozed off, "I like that you show me your face. I love you."

Well, Renathan was perhaps not the best with words. Perhaps it was his anxiety, perhaps it was the fact that he wasn't experienced in this sort of thing, and perhaps it was because his grasp on common was only near-perfect, and not quite perfect. He felt perhaps like he had messed up; but then again, Jack was a very modest person. That was one of his favorite qualities about. He leans over and gently began working over his food, nearly dropping the fork on the plate a few times (he was not exactly good at forks yet) which was pretty funny to him, at least. Probably because he was nervous again. He watches the sunset, and eats his food, and tries not to look over at Jack too much. Suddenly he is sort of hyper-aware of everything, even the minute stuff, like that. "Oh, it is perfect, thank you Jack!" He said, after he quickly chewed a piece and nearly choked, because he chewed it a little too fast in order to get it out of his mouth before he talked. He swallowed, and just barely managed to swallow it right. He glanced over at Jack nervously, and smiled wide, his bright white (and sharp) teeth flashing. Trying to play it off like he hadn't just nearly killed himself on a piece of steak because she was about as pretty as the sunset and he didn't want to stare at her because that was weird- right?
Renathan swallowed quietly, this time not around food because he'd finished it pretty quickly after that. "It is beautiful..." He said, and then felt his heart skip a beat as she leaned back on his shoulder. His mouth ran dry, and he looked down at her, lifting his arm to help hook it around hers easier. Renathan then watched as she began to fell asleep-
And then. His Heart. STOPPED.
Renathan had no idea if she knew what she had just said, but now she was asleep, and goodness, what if she hadn't meant it, if she was dreaming, if she had meant it in a friendly way, or for someone else entirely, and he couldn't just believe that she meant him. Even though it made the most sense. He wasn't sure, suddenly, what to do. He wanted to leap for joy, he wanted to run around, he wanted to kiss her- but she was asleep, and he didn't know if it was proper for someone to say it back or not in this land he just had no idea.
His mind was going a million miles a second, in a run-on-sentence.
Finally, he decided that she was asleep; and he was totally not going to be able to sleep for a while now more than ever, and that he shouldn't bother her while she was sleeping. He gently kissed her on the forehead, and whispered, barely above the breath; "I love you too."
