Xandrew approaches the beach with his gear and surveys the area for a promising spot to catch a good fish. He chooses an area with little current for his friends Concha and Gulpy, because he doesn't want them to get swept up and carried away from him. Concha sets about finding pretty stones and shells almost immediately and is quite content. Gulpy splooshes down into the water and happy to dart about some before coming back to rest near Concha. Xandrew sits his cooler down far enough so the tide wouldn't pull it down stream and away. Xandrew brandishes his new long handled net and starts off by wading into the water. Even with the clogs on, the water was cold and he could feel the slight pull of its weight against him. Xandrew lowered the net into the water and attempted to scoop up a few of the smaller fish for larger bait. With those he could stretch his bait further and the fish living here were more inclined to eat the indigenous species in water than anything he could bring along himself from the store. It had been years since his grandfather had shown him how to do this. Post 1/5 Concha 1/5 Gulpy 1/5 (Carrying count over from Rookery Postings - 9/20)

Concha could be heard giggling in the background and splashing about with Gulpy. Xandrew smiled as he continued moving the net about in the water. He pulled the net above the water and lifted it several times to see if he'd snagged anything but nothing had shown itself yet. Xandrew moved a few feet over and checked his footing to be sure that he wasn't going to slip then returned the net under the water's surface and glided it slowly against the current letting the water do the work of stretching out the net. Xandrew began to whistle a tune. It was nothing special, for his skill was not the best, but Concha perked up at the sound and giggled upon hearing it. "How do you do that?" she said and swam through the water toward Xandrew. He thought for a moment and said "You move your lips like this and blow through them, and depending on how you shape your lips it changes the sound." Concha attempted to follow Xandrew's direction but only managed to "furrrrphhh" air from her mouth. Concha looked upset and lowered her head. "Don't worry. It took me quite some time to get the hang of it, and with practice I believe you can do it to" said Xandrew with smile. Concha giggled and smiled as she splooshed back into the water to find more pretty shells.

Gulpy followed along behind Concha and made a game of darting under and over her when she swam. Gulpy had quickly realized that Concha was looking for shells and made a point of finding ones that would be of interest to Concha. When Gulpy found one, she would 'tag' Concha and swim in a slow tight circle above it, so that Concha could move it toward the beach and add it to her collection. "Furrrphhhh" and giggles came from her as she worked. Xandrew held onto the net with one hand and extracted his handkerchief from his back pocket. He dipped it down into the water and padded it onto his face and neck before letting it rest on the back of his neck and shoulders under his shirt, which added extra protection from the sun. Xandrew shifted a few feet again being careful and returned his attention to the task at hand. Moving the net toward a school of fish that hadn't darted away from him yet, but he wasn't quick enough and they were away in a flash. Xandrew moved the net lower into the water than he had been trying to before and tried his luck there.

Xandrew let the net sit under the water for a few minutes as he slowly moved it against the current. Then something surprised Xandrew. A tug could be felt in the net and he went to pull it up out of the water, but he was unable to do so easily. The net was actively being pulled down into the water and actually began to pull him enough to make him lean against it. Excitement began to show on Xandrew's face as he worked to pull the net toward the beach. Gulpy had come over to Xandrew and was swimming around in the water and jumped passionately in front of him. Xandrew took another step and was able to get better footing, and with a mighty tug he pulled the head of the net above water and revealed a giggling Concha. Xandrew's excitement gave way to puzzlement, for he couldn't stifle a giggle of his own at the draconic's little trick.

Concha let go of the net and splashed backward into the water raising her back fin out of the water waving with it at Xandrew. Gulpy swam back toward Concha and continued playing with her. It wasn't long until Concha was back near her chosen spot with another shell. Concha had lined her shells up and was showing Gulpy her favorites in order of preference, but giggled and pointed toward the shell hanging from her necklace and said "Well, this one is my most favorite." Xandrew moved a bit further out and away to get back to the task at hand. He was certain that this was the going to be the one as he channeled positive energy into his fishing technique. He could almost hear his grandfather's words and feel his hands on his guiding him toward success. "Patience, Xandrew. That is the key. Of all the skills I have ever developed in life, patience is the most important," Xandrew could vividly remember his grandfather's voice and teaching. With deliberate speed and force, he moved the net once more just as his grandfather had showed him so many years before through the water and raised it back above the water to reveal his net.

A little pink fish was caught. How unlucky for it!

Xandrew couldn't help but beam with some pride at his catch. It could have been a minnow, and he would have been satisfied, but he was ecstatic to see a squirming fish. Xandrew carefully moved back toward the beach and set his cooler up with fresh water. Xandrew dropped the little pink fish into the cooler for safe keeping, and he looked over at Concha to give her a thumbs-up when she asked "Catch anything?" Xandrew moved back into the water and was glad to have have the sand that had been sticking to his feet wash away. Concha moved onto the beach to look into the cooler. She turned around and nonchalantly went back to the water. Concha looked down at Gulpy and said "Its pink and pretty." Gulpy moved about in small circles around Concha. Concha replied giggling "Oh, I've seen bigger." Xandrew had moved to about the place he had been lucky before, and he replied toward Concha "Thanks. I'll get a bigger one. Just wait." Xandrew smiled as he returned the net back into the water and practiced his form once again. He controlled the speed, force, and angle he moved the net out of the water. Xandrew moved a few feet back toward Concha and waded in a foot more. He slipped the net into the water several times, moved the net about, and revealed an empty net each time. Concha giggled when Gulpy moved toward her to her attention. "Okay, I'll watch," she giggled once more. Gulpy disappeared away and under the water. Xandrew smiled to himself and was happy that Concha was having a good time. He moved the net under and through the water again, nothing. Once more he moved it under and through again, nothing. Then, he moved the net under the surface and felt a pull at the net. Quickly Xandrew moved the net at a sharp angle from the water. "Ha!" Xandrew revealed an empty net. "Huh," Xandrew put his net back under the water and repeated the motion, and once again felt the pull on the net. Xandrew pulled the net quickly out of the water to reveal nothing. He looked over toward Concha who was happily watching him, but upon meeting her gaze she giggled and splashed water with her tail fin. Xandrew shrugged and went back to work with his net with every intent to catch the elusive fish that was getting free of his net.

Xandrew was determined to get that fish. Each time that he dipped the net into the water and brought it back to the surface empty, Concha laughed harder and harder each time. "Am I missing something?" Xandrew asked toward Concha. She simply replied "You can do it. Keep at it!" Xandrew rolled up his sleeves and wiped his brow off with the handkerchief once more. He dipped it back into the water and wrung out some of the water before placing it back onto the back of his neck. "Alright, I've got you this time!" Xandrew moved the net into the water and moved the net in a different pattern and drug it sharply to the surface. "Yeah! I've got.." Gulpy was flopping around half-in the net, half-out of the net. "Well, that explains that." Concha exploded into laughter holding her stomach and slashing water with her long tail fin.

Xandrew set the net gently back into the water to let Gulpy free of the net, and he swam up to Xandrew's leg and bumped it. "It was a good joke, Gulpy. You certainly entertained your audience." Xandrew flashed a smile back toward Concha and gave her a thumbs-up. Gulpy returned Concha's side and they resumed playing with one another. It wasn't long after that Concha "squeed" marveling at a rather large shell she had found. Xandrew recognized what she had discovered but chose not to say anything yet. Concha moved to pick it up, but the shell skittered away a few feet. Concha lowered her head and tilted it. Approaching the shell once more, she reached out an arm toward the shell and it skittered away again. It was Xandrew's turn to laugh this time. "That is a hermit crab, Concha. They make their home inside of shells to protect themselves." Concha looked at the hermit crab with amazement. "Woaaahh! They are soooo coool. Are there any other creatures that wear their homes on their backs?" Concha giggled as she watched the crab skitter away. "There aren't that many creatures that are like that. It's pretty special." Concha looked somewhat content with that answer going back to play.

Xandrew was determined to get another catch in before the day was over. He moved slowly to the other side of Concha by about 10 feet being careful not to lose his footing. He scooped the net down into the water and angled it quickly to the side and surface of the water. Nothing yet, but this didn't deter him. Xandrew repeated the word "patience" in his mind as he repeated the maneuver. He was ready for the big one. Each attempt brought him that much closer to a new personal best. He chuckled to himself that it wouldn't take much to beat his old record, that is if he didn't count Gulpy, which made him chuckle again. Xandrew could hear Concha giggling in the background while playing with Gulpy. "I'll get such a fish that Concha will surely be impressed," thought Xandrew. He quickly glanced over to check on the two before returning to his chore. "Alright, here goes!" Xandrew moved his net with dedication and poise into the water using the current to his advantage and the force of both his muscle and willpower to bring the net gliding through the water and then to the surface to reveal its contents.

The Squirt lunged forward as it swam along, right by where the man and his Draconic and Seryn were fishing. How odd, better go catch it quickly! It pushed against the current from the rainy season, determined to get where it was going.

Something caught Xandrew's eye in the water. A little creature that somewhat resembled a jellyfish but far cuter and hopefully with far less stinging potential. He set his sights on catching the little creature and decided to guide the creature toward a more advantageous position for Xandrew to eventually snag it in the net. He was careful not to spook the creature away as moved the net around in a non-threatening way. Concha had noticed that Xandrew was intently looking down at something and quietly whispering to Gullpy. "I wonder what he's stalking. I hope it's big!" Concha giggled quietly, and Gulpy responded by swimming a quick circle around Concha. Xandrew moved his feet slowly but surely further out while moving the net in a position to maneuver the little purple tentacled creature toward the beach. "If I can get it closer to the shore before making my move, I might be able to get a second swipe attempt at it before it makes its way out to deeper water and escapes my sight," thought Xandrew. "This is going to take time and patience." Xandrew smiled as he remembered his grandfather's lesson. Slowly but surely Xandrew inched toward the right position.

It bobbed along in the water, a little lonely for it had lost its school. That didn't matter though, it thought it knew that way! As it squirted along, pushing itself forward by expelling water from itself, it found itself being herded. It was a simple creature, however, and went where it was turned so far. Nothing was being picked up on as a threat just yet at least.
