A couple of trick suggestions for sentient lets, because I went looking for a trick like these, thinking they were a thing, and found out they weren't. Thought it would be interesting/a fun thing to teach your smarter creatures. Not all of them can speak, but it feels plausible that they could all learn to read and maybe write.
I tried to make them similar to how the mechanics currently work for teaching Speak, but idk if staff would want to balance them differently in terms of requirements, if these get implemented.
Read An intelligent pet learns to read written words. Each language must be taught separately. Requires: Cunning 5 or higher, level 15 to learn TP: 5
Write An intelligent pet learns to write, either using a utensil or by scratching out words in a soft surface such as dirt. Each language must be taught separately. Requires: Cunning 5 or higher, level 15 (and maybe Read?) to learn TP: 5
Alternatively, they could be combined into a single trick (Literacy?) since Speak seems to be implied to encompass understanding that spoken language too.
Honestly, that is something I've wanted for a super long time too!
Okay, so I just talked it out with some folks, and we will be implementing some things for sentient pets but they will be edited a bit from your versions. ;3 I will be implementing these ideas a bit later ASAP.
We have implemented the breedable shop thingy and it has been announced. Thanks for bringing it to our attention.
We will not be implementing any of the suggestions from the tricks/moves/abilities ones there, because the tricks have actually already been implemented forever ago (the ones that were going to be acceptable) and we aren't taking any ideas for moves/abilities at this moment. (I have talked behind the scenes specifically about one possible addition, but it is being mulled about and has nothing to do with any of those.)

Maybe as a job these as well?
Hunter (Your skilled at acquiring small animals through tracking and capturing them.) Skills needed (I think?): Tracking, Trap-Setting rank 1, knot Know-How
Bounty Hunter (Your skilled at tracking down animals and trapping them for capture, the zoologist could always count on you to stock up on their animals!) Skills needed (I think?): Tracking, Advanced Tracking, Trap-Setting all Ranks, Knot Know-how, Climb, Cliffhanger, Cartography, Inner Compass
Master Bounty Hunter (If people are looking for a specific pet out in the wild, they know who to go too first. You’re a master at your job. A really big Tunnel Worm? Pheh, you can take ‘em on.) Skills needed (I think?): Tracking, Advanced Tracking, Trap-Setting all Ranks, Knot Know-how, Climb, Cliffhanger, Cartography, Inner Compass, Local Lore Eccentric Mansion, Local Lore Mining, Local Lore Garden, 5 ranks in either Combat or Marksmanship) (Could be all survival skills as well? Unsure)
I figure with how often we can find pocketpets, or sometimes the bigger animals, this would be neat to have as well. Since you’d be really applying it through the eccentric mansion, mining and gardening. X3
Pit Fighter (When people want to challenge someone to a fight in order to test their own strength, they come to the Fighting Pit to challenge you!) Skills needed (I think?): 10 ranks in Combat, 5 Ranks in Marksmanship, Ride Mount, 1 Rank in Mounted Combat, 1 Rank in Mounted Archery, ?
Pit Fighter Champion (You’re not the average fighter people could challenge, and they know it. It’s your paycheck and their death warrant.) Skills needed (I think?): 30 ranks in Combat, 15 Ranks in Marksmanship, Ride Mount, Ride Exotic Mount, All Rank in Mounted Combat, All Ranks in Mounted Archery, Command Attention, Awing Presence, ?
We got a character combat system, why not have something related to them also being capable of signing up in the Fighting Pit for people to challenge?
I know for certain I would be interested in these ones for my secondary. X3
Edit; With the new trick for 'Labs Sign Language' and that characters can learn it as well with Foreign Language, wouldn't it also be a good idea to have a book sold in the Dusty Scroll similar to the language books that are already sold there? Like Layan ABCs, Shakaash ABCs, etc? Only, this one will be about showing examples how people talk in what way, and focused not on script but just Foreign Language itself?
EditEdit; I know its not one of those things you guys are especially looking for, but I thought to suggest it as the fire, light, Hollow, Shadows section both got some pretty useful magic for a rather low cost (Insulate, Light (Minor), Voice, Shadows) the first two more then the latter if your not looking to do a job in thievery or becoming a spy. :3
Ward off the Rain Cost: 1 Water MP Description: Another rainy day? Whether you just love the rain or hate it, its always nice to stay dry from a unexpectant rainfall. Use this spell to create a very thin invisible shield around yourself in order to not only keep yourself dry, but also your clothing and anything else you carry, or chose to use it on another target besides yourself. However the spell has a tendency to fail when used under pressure of battle. Effect: No effect in battle, see description, the ward lasts until dismissed.
I'm hoping that the one above would be possible if it has no use in battle, and can because of that, last longer. Would be handy for the usual rain, or the one summoned outside of battle to water the plants and such. Plus, I think it can be handy to keep your cloths and stuff dry while swimming, it just doesn't allow you to breath underwater, it would need another spell or item for that. :D
The one below would be more useful in battle against those using Call the Rains/Douse/Hydro Jet I believe. :3
Ward off the Rainstorms Cost: 2 Water MP? Description: A rainstorm coming your way? With this spell you’ll stay safe and dry, and its even useful to ward off minor attacks! Effect: The user creates a invisible shield layer around themselves or the target’s body for three turns that not only keeps the target and anything they carry dry, but wards off water attacks and the negative effects of them as well. The effect ends immediately if the shield is "broken" by receiving damage equal to or greater than 2. Outside of battle the ward lasts for 3 hours.

A trick suggestion. :3
Spectral Bite and Ethereal Claw both gather an energy to form it into something sharp, and tear hard enough with it to physically damage their opponent’s flesh for a brief moment (Ethereal Claw might do it indirectly, but it still happens), so what if the creature builds further on that energy, and use it just a bit differently?
I can touch you! Description: Physically untouchable they might be, but with training they could be able to develop a thin shield around their body to initiate touch, and while it is so thin it can easily break in battle or with too much pressure exerted on it. An owner could find comfort in finally being able to hug their companion. Even if the companion in question wouldn't be able to truly feel it, with the small amount of pressure exerted on their shields they can still pretend they do. * Requires: Ethereal pet's only, it uses the energy that makes their form coherent in the absence of flesh and blood. Training Points: 5-15 TP ?
The way I see it with Ethereal pets is that the only way they can survive and be the way they are is a form of energy that binds their mind and soul together, having it imprint on both parts what it is as a species and be capable to stay coherent and interact with the world around them in some way or form.
The mind is a double edged sword, it has immense Power, capable of accomplishing both useful and destructive feats.
Not sure if you wanted any general suggestion here or just about those specified subjects...although, it may also be like question? Meh, here goes. Haha
So the question part is....the beyond. What’s the sitch with that? I completely understand it’s a dead and broken system currently, but are we planning to revive or remodel it? I know it’s been discussed in the cbox, but I don’t remember the definitive answers and I wanted to immortalize it on the boards.
The suggestion part (though loose and not all from me, but more of a collective idea I’ve gathered)....Renathan as an example. They’ve done everything there is to do, pretty much. No more goals. They have their dream job. They have nodes and trained pets. They lost motivation in the pits due to overtrained opponents. The mines and gardens and stuff can only give loot they already have (outside of simply collecting, which I don’t know if they even care about).
So when all of the staff’s current projects are released and stable, and the members are still active and thriving, do you think ‘the beyond’ could be released again? I put it in quotes because I presume the original is too incomplete and unstable to actually launch. However, the heart of the beyond - the reason we all trained and wanted magic and possibly even came to the labs in the first place - could still be a thing.
My actual suggestion is that the mines/mansion/etc be expanded to have the heart of the beyond. Perhaps - if we felt we were ready - we could create a separate thread (still only one at a a time per area) with “Beyond” in the title, and that can be in a deeper, more dangerous part of that area. Encounters would be on. Battles would be expected. Creatures would rather KILL YOU before they ever went home with you. Perhaps even nodes could be found naturally (at like a 1/10,000 base chance or something crazy).
The idea is that it hopefully wouldn’t put too much of a strain on the staff, since it shouldn’t require new images or entire areas to be created. It would just be like an advanced version of the already existing wild-but-not-beyond places. Perhaps, like the quest area, IC reasons could be created for going into these advanced areas, just like finding the tribe of sentient dashclaw or mystical wise creatures/spell scrolls in the original concept of the beyond.
I will look over your suggestions for jobs; the requirements will probably wind up being different, but I'll check over it when I go to add new jobs. :3
I don't know about books, but I can see what the process behind the scenes was going to be for that shop?
I am really wanting to add some new magic at some point, but that process will be slow going for a bit.
I can touch you... Probably won't happen as is written. I might look into developing something for it; but the entire point of being Ethereal is not being able to be touched physically. We'll see, okay?
The beyond had NOTHING on the back end for it, to be perfectly transparent. I developed quests to give people something to do that is relatively similar. Please be patient about this, and nothing is being promised.
Renathan doesn't have any goals because as a moderator, I personally have realized that I feel... Icky. About doing anything else. I get to see things that others don't, and I don't think it's very fair for ALL of the moderators to be in the pit constantly. So I will probably be backing off of my pit goals after this and the Petite tourney (which I promised I would enter a long time ago, or I wouldn't enter it either). It's a personally choice, not me being 'bored'.
I would like it if folks would back off of the Beyond idea until I have time to work on back-end of the site things. :3 I keep telling folks to hold their horses and be patient, the site NEEDS SO MUCH FIXING. xD Let me take some time to iron out the site before worrying about that, okay? <3 I mean this in the best of ways! I want this site to run as smoothly as possible before looking into this.
Also, we are missing working versions of basically everything spirit ever said was going to be in the beyond. All of the images we have left are broken, smashed together, or otherwise unusable. Please be patient!
EDIT: To anyone wondering about Beyond-stuff.
It is so hard to tell y'all stuff because I can't be 100% transparent about how the site works. I will also not ever be doing that thing that Spirit did where y'all were teased with something that may never happen. It Think it is Wrong of him to have done that; because now people will never be happy unless those things are done, and the mod team was left with a mess.
I cannot in good conscience talk to y'all about Beyond stuff. I also don't know how to tell y'all that without sounding rude or mean, please know that I don't mean it that way at all! I just can't... Say everything.
We are also not really... Ready for something like that. I have a ton of projects waiting to go that we are working on. I just won't tell y'all what they are until they are done, because I don't want to do that stuff that Spirit did with the teasing stuff that never happened.
And as for the beyond thing, I should have elaborated that I was referring to like two years in the future. Hahaha! I was just giving an idea for y’all to keep in mind when you felt like it was time to consider it. Also, the beyond-mess was why I meant more of the “heart of the beyond” in a symbolic sense. Meaning just the advanced battles and discoveries and extremely-rare-but-self-existing nodes....but none of the actual beyond areas, items, or images. And don’t get me wrong, I LOVE the quests and I’m super grateful for them. This (again, waaaay down the line) could be like an expansion of them. (Perhaps it could be it’s own advanced rp area that combines all of the interactive areas together in that advanced way...).
(Not at all bashing on the quests, just noting how it would be different. Quests rock!!) I feel like it’s separate from the quests in that the quests (so far) seem to be outside of regular site-mechanics (like non-battle bug squashing, mine raiding, and unapproved pet training), on a roll-system from what I can tell (so you can be chopping the lamadidrons head off and then roll a success as it being trained) and require nothing in advance - whereas the advanced area would be like “You brought a Gallor trained nothing but its name and scratch? Sorry. PLIATHOR! You died. Next?” With live battles, fully and thoughtfully rp’d out adventures/intentions, and rolls being things like is the new enemy a black sarane or a bone dragon? One or five? Are they regular or stat-boosted? Do they have unconventional abilities (like a gug with breathe fire instead of being entirely physical, or a Nyssa with wind avatar instead of being locked to the ground. Again, for the sake of interesting battles, and not obtainable. Haha!)
We can already find creatures in these areas (pretty sure? I’ve not played in them enough to know first hand), so these would just be the already existing creatures, but ones you (very likely) couldn’t catch. And they’d probably be stronger (wild-equivalent to gym training?) than the regularly obtainable ones - for the sake of battle.
Riku’s goal (as something to keep in mind for years down the road (which he won’t be ready for until then anyway)) is to have three extremely trained Malii fight at his side while he uses magic and a staff. So eventually it’d be epic if a site-feature could give him something to use all that against....outside of the heavily moderated pit where he’d only be fighting (separate from his creatures, and likely only one-on-ones) ‘fake’ enemies for a trophy. (Which he’ll definitely still be doing anyway. Hhaha)
Again. Years down the road. Brainstorming and expressing what I’d eventually be interested in Riku doing so staff know what direction to take things if there’s ever wonder of what people eventually want. Not asking for an answer or if you’ll look into it or any yes or no since it’s likely too soon to decide or plan or reveal current projects.
Keep up the amazing staff work, guys! I really appreciate it, and I’ve read a lot of other people saying they do as well.
Not sure if this is the right place for it, but would it be possible to make the basic Amulet Spirits (so, just the fire/air/water/earth ones, and not the customs) available again? Their images are all pre-made and available, and the magical coins have been brought back, so I was wondering if it was doable. P:
It'd be great if the custom ones could be brought back too, but I understand the art limitations there, so I wouldn't be surprised if that's not possible.
Ooooh, piggy backing off of that, but not really related....
Maybe there could be a Dark Corners thing to make a creature (probably power level 2) bound the a piece of jewelry like an amulet spirit. You would bring the jewelry and the creature and the sorcerers there could fuse them together in spirit. Essentially making them a slave to the owner of the jewelry. Perhaps (other than residing in the trinket and being summoned at the user’s discretion and therefore being easily transportable) there could be some sort of stat change or benefit as well. Sort of like how undead pets get that Eidelon or whatever. Not that, of course, but something special for being a sort of genie-creature. (Without the wishes lol)
Wouldn’t require new images. Just a cool stat and IC change.
Ideas for stat change could be being ethereal from now on when summoned (as if their body IS the jewelry). Or having telepathy, so their ‘master’ can communicate with them. Or heart of the guardian. Or perhaps a similar loyalty-magic system the amulet spirits get.

- I kind of thought it would be like that, only mentioned the skills there as they made a bit of sense, but didn’t know for sure either. X3
- Yeah, I thought that might be, but their here at least on the suggestions should there ever be a time when new magic can be added. :D
- Can understand that point as well yeah, though the way I imagine that trick, if the shields break under pressure the arms of the owner will just go through the critter again with no harm coming to the critter when the shields break, since its not actually part of the body. Just an outline of where the energy of their shape ends. Can’t wait to see what might be developed for it, if it ever comes. :3
New skill suggestion
Lip Reading A useful skill for those poor of hearing or who are deaf, even for spies wanting to see from a distance what people talk about. Though, you’ll only ever be able to use it for the spoken languages you yourself know. Rank 1, You can easily read the lips of human faces or those with a very slight muzzle to them. Rank 2, You are getting skilled at lip reading from those faces who have elongated snouts. Rank 3, Lip reading from those with beaks? Not a problem, they always have something that gives away what they are talking about. No matter how hard they try to cover it up.
I think its also useful for a battle tactic if you have a telescope and your party member is farther away, they could give a update on their progress from a greater distance with it. Also useful to use against those who don’t know the lab sign language so that you can at least ‘hear’ a bit what they are talking about so long as your looking at their faces.
Mechanic Well, there has to be someone who fixes the machines that get broken, and that someone just happens to be YOU.
Translator You know so many languages, it just comes easy to you. And because of that people come to you in hopes of learning how to speak or write a certain language, or have you act as an interpreter between different groups of people that all speak a different language. Honestly, what’s not to love about this job?
(This one would give the trait Linguist something to add to it I believe.)
The mind is a double edged sword, it has immense Power, capable of accomplishing both useful and destructive feats.
fieraferella: Ohhh i see. D: That really, really sucks. Im so sorry!
Dec 15, 2019 20:10:56 GMT -6
Jack: There were at least 13 who called in
Dec 15, 2019 20:02:18 GMT -6
Morgan: In my experience; it sucks, and gets worse around the holidays or if there is bad weather.
Dec 15, 2019 17:47:24 GMT -6
Morgan: Guards are what is considered a 'required/essential' (p1) position, so it has to be filled for safety. So folks get sort of... Requested* (*expected as it is your duty) to stay if there are call-outs that may put others in danger.
Dec 15, 2019 17:46:51 GMT -6
Jack: He works as a guard at the local prison. Mandated means he has to stay late because other people called in or something.
Dec 15, 2019 17:40:13 GMT -6
fieraferella: im afraid I don't know what mandated means. :c What does Adam do for work?
Dec 15, 2019 17:32:27 GMT -6
Morgan: Oh good, that's good at least. I'm super sorry though, Jack.
Dec 15, 2019 16:49:49 GMT -6
Jack: Yeah, it's in town
Dec 15, 2019 16:47:12 GMT -6
Renathan: With the snow, will he be able to get home after the extra hours?
Dec 15, 2019 15:59:48 GMT -6
Renathan: Oh that is the worst. :c Its the time of year for it, too though.
Dec 15, 2019 15:59:19 GMT -6
Jack: Ugh, Adam got mandated at work
Dec 15, 2019 15:53:41 GMT -6
Renathan: Oh no. :c Snow really is a big ole mess most of the time.
Dec 15, 2019 15:27:56 GMT -6
Jack: They're shutting down highways already
Dec 15, 2019 15:25:31 GMT -6
Renathan: Goodness, good luck with the snow... I hope it doesn't get too bad on y'all!
Dec 15, 2019 15:23:17 GMT -6
Jack: We've had like 2 inches of snow so far today
Dec 15, 2019 15:18:58 GMT -6
Twilight-Claw: I would certainly be cheering for you when/should that happen.
Dec 15, 2019 4:48:10 GMT -6
fieraferella: aw, yeah! That'd be so cool!
Dec 14, 2019 20:05:09 GMT -6
Riku: Not suggesting as a change, just stating the strategy I might use. // Someday soon when I’m on TV y’all are gonna be able to go watch me. <3 I’ll be like “Hope you guys see my movie tonight!” That’ll be so cool. I feel like we’ll be able to connect deeper.
Dec 14, 2019 19:40:09 GMT -6
Riku: I really like the idea of spells being systemic rather than directly damaging. They’re more useful and unique that way. And damage can be reserved for moves/weapons.
Dec 14, 2019 19:31:37 GMT -6
fieraferella: *slides in my spell contest entries right under the wire*
