How strange! Things were looking a little distorted now, fuzzy on the edges that were previously sharp and defined. Jinx blinked her eyes to see if something had gotten in them, and that didn't clear it up. So she rubbed them with the backs of her knuckles, in case there was something to be cleared out that way. That only made her feel a little dizzy, off kilter. It should be alarming! Yet she felt peaceful and chill about it. She almost leaned into it, embracing the feeling. Gulli was moving away now and Jinx decided the best thing would be to follow her. She started to walk and the floor heaved beneath her, as if she were on a ship in rough waters. She held her arms out to either side of her for balance and focused on walking.
"Wait for me, Gulli!" she called. The dragon chirped a reply and was heading for what she saw now was a door to the next room.

The next room was bright. Too bright. Neon colors everywhere. The floors and ceilings seemed dark, almost endless and black. But the walls - this one was yellow, this one was lime green, this one was neon blue. If you stared at them, they seemed to swirl and blend into patterns, something like she might find on one of those obnoxious eggs that kept showing up everywhere. She took a tentative step from the threshold of the door and half expected to tumble down into endless night - but the ground held firm and she was able to walk across. Combined with the dizzy feeling she still had, she felt like any moment she could walk off the edge of the building. A strange thing to worry about while inside on the first floor! Gulli didn't share her fear and scurried right across the floor. It was then that Jinx noticed there was a bright pink couch, and some bright purple pillows.

Jinx gazed at the couch with longing. It looked so comfortable, she just wanted to curl up on it with Gulli and cuddle her baby. Not that Gulli was even the cuddly type. Not that Jinx was even the cuddly type! No, it was just a strange inviting feeling that was almost overpowering. Jinx started toward the couch, then became distracted by something on the floor. Motion had caught her attention. She looked down and she saw a perfect image of herself gazing back up at her. The floor seemed to be a black mirror of some sort? Jinx had seen marble flooring so clean she could see herself in it, but this was different. This was almost a perfect mirror image! As she stared, she got even more dizzy and she felt herself leaning forward, the same pull one might experience when leaning over the edge of a tall building.
And then she was falling.

Jinx was falling head over heels. Or was it heels over head? There was no sense of up or down where she was, just endless darkness and occasional reflections of herself in that darkness. She blinked her eyes rapidly - was there some sort of paint in them? A fluid to make her see thesr things? Was she going blind? She started to panic, thinking it might be a permanent state for her, but just as quickly as it started, the panic went away. Soothing came back.
She felt tiny Claw prices and realized Gulli was with her, clinging to her arm. Sweet Gulli, she must have fallen in, too! Jinx reached around to try and bring Gulli into her lap. The dragon allowed it, but she had to sit facing away from Jinx, gazing out into the Abyss. If Jinx didn't know better, she'd think Gulli was looking for something! But that was silly , there was nothing out here.

It was strange. With Gulli present, it stopped feeling like she was falling down a very large hole and more like she was hovering in space now, no gravity to pull her down. Though it was still heavy with darkness, she could see a bit better with the baby dragon's natural glow. It was calming, even if there wasn't anything but her own hands in front of her face to see. Jinx kept her arms around Gulli, firm but loose so as not to trap or squish her, and she brought her legs up under her. She didn't know if she should sit or stand in this gravity-less space, so she criss crossed her legs to make a better lap for Gulli. The dragon seemed to be glowing brighter the longer they stayed there, and... were they moving now? It was hard to tell when there was nothing around to see the progression of movement to judge by.

They were moving! They had to be. Unless Jinx was imagining the breeze on her face. Which was possible she could be, except that her hair moved, which was what called her attention to the breeze on her face. She glanced down at her dragon, wondering if Gulli was making them move or if it was just 'falling' but in a different direction. The dragon seemed intent on looking ahead, a sort of attentiveness one might have while directing a moving object. Jinx was willing to put money on the idea of Gulli moving them. But how? It didn't make sense. Her wings weren't flapping, she wasn't pushing against anything, and it felt like there was no gravity to work with either.
Jinx's brain hurt too much from trying to figure this out, so she chalked it up to magic and settled back for the ride. She didn't have much choice, after all. It seemed safe enough.

Gulli was most definitely guiding them, and Jinx was curious to see where they were heading. She felt gentle current of - air? Magic? - as they continued down this path, solidifying the fact. They were soft and helpful, making Gulli pleased enough to make a couple or cute chirps and clicks. Jinx had no idea where they were heading or why, and what happened to the mansion anyway? Were they still in there?
And then, in front of her face, appeared another egg. Strange, this one appeared quite small compared to all the other ones that she had collected in the past! She plucked this one out of the darkness and found out she was wearing a necklace- of eggs! The one Gullu had found earlier, and the one Jinx had seen right before these visions started, were already on there. She touched this to the string and it, too, became part of the necklace. She felt a giggle come up - that was too funny!

"Oh, look, another one..." Jinx said. She felt a little light headed, almost like she was in a dream, the kind that didn't make sense and was just a series of clips and thoughts and ideas. Here she was, tumbling through the void, and she was giving in to it. Her resistance slipped away with each egg she took and added to the necklace - which, another one was just added to! The recognition of the eggs seemed to distract her enough for a chink in her armor to appear. Without her full wits about her, she wasn't able to defend against the magic of this place. Now, the darkness seemed to be strobing different colors. First, she thought it was a pulsing in her head causing the colors to change, but then they went from black to a red, to a green and a blue. Colors were starting to come out of the void. Did Gulli have something to do with that?

Gulli gave a chirp and they came to a sudden halt. Jinx, alarmed by the warning chirp, whipped her head back around to the front now. The stop was sudden but small, since they hadn't been going very fast. She felt it more in her soul, as if she was suddenly being held back by some force. She wanted to go forward, to keep going, but this force had stopped her. "Ride's over, I guess?" Jinx asked Gulli, still feeling light headed and a little loopy. She reached out to below her legs, wondering if there was any solid ground yet. Once she touched, the darkness faded and she was sitting in a lovely stone room, with all the dressings. Pillows, blankets, an elegant couch. It was someone's home, very obviously. She recognized this place, too. It had been the sitting room in her palace, when she'd lived with her family as a child. Before.... "Why are we here?"

Gulli looked at her, and the look seemed to say 'I don't know, I thought you'd know'. Well, Jinx didn't know! And she'd rather not be here! She stood up abruptly, and in doing so she caused Gulli to slide to the floor. She squawked in protest, but once free, she took the liberty to walk around the place, looking it over. "This was my childhood home," she explained to the dragon. The dragon appeared to listen... but didn't respond, so Jinx wasn't sure if she knew what that meant or if she'd understood the context of it.
Jinx decided that, since she was here she might as well do some exploring. What else do you do when forced to relive a memory? If this was even a memory and not a day dream. Only one way to find out and that was to do some exploring! She walked down the hall to the room she had spent her childhood in.

Gulli followed after Jinx in a few moments, sticking close to her heels when she caught up. She made sure to let the human lead, though, because while she could sense that magic was afoot, she wasn't controlling it nor did she know how to change the outcome. She was along for the ride just as well!
Jinx walked down the long hallway until she found the room on the left that she wanted. Her room. She had spent many days running up and down this hall, had spent many avoiding getting stuck being inside all day. Because while this was indeed the room of her childhood, she merely slept there...
...and meditated there. Meditating was one of the things her mother had instilled in her, the art of clearing your mind and channeling your thoughts. Not letting distractions pull at your concentration. So many hours, kneeling, starving, honing those skills. Did she dare go back inside this room?

She did dare. She swallowed, hard. She blamed herself in part for what had happened that led to the subsequent destruction of her home, and her becoming an outcast. If only she had been stronger mentally, she could have reached the dragon. Instead, her mother had died and the dragon had gone into a frenzy. Maybe a few extra sessions, a few more weeks, and she would have been ready.... she exhaled slowly, putting off opening the door. She felt Gulli at her heels and that suddenly gave her strength. She was different now! She was stronger! Maybe she hadn't practiced recently, yet here she was with her own dragon!
She pressed on the wooden door and it swung open silently. Odd, there was usually a creak to the hinges, always needing to be oiled. Hard to sneak out of her room; what was the point in all that sneaking practice if the door just went silently now?

Inside, it looked the same as she had left it. Some off-white sheets, a gray comforter that was filled with down feathers, as soft as it was warm. She'd loved cozying up in that while sitting outside in the early, misty mornings, daydreaming about dragons and magic. She walked over to the bed and picked it up, draping it around her shoulders. She looked around the rest of the room, noting it was just the same as she had left it... that fateful day.
Had she, possibly, gone back in time? Could she fix this? Warn her mother, before she could leave? She turned and bolted for the door, but there was no door anymore. It had shut and melted into the wall. She felt around frantically for the doorknob and found smooth wall. Gulli looked alarmed at this sudden change in her attitude seemingly out of nowhere. She backed up until she was against the wall, chirping soft questions.
