Training was something that Leafy had experience with. Training other people’s pets was not something she had done, however. Working with a Lamadidron was also new to her. She had brought a pet of her own for moral support while she trained a stranger’s creature. She had little information about the Lamadidron beyond its name being Moss, it was easily distracted, and that it liked eating couches. “I suppose we can start with the whole biting issue,” she mused aloud. “Do you even know the word no yet?” She wracked her brain as she tried to figure out a strategy to teach no bites. She approached the Lamadidron, figuring it would be best for them to have a proper introduction first. Tilly clung to her shoulder, using the girl as a perch while she trained. The girl held out her hand for the Lamadidron to sniff. When it appeared comfortable enough with her presence, she reached her hand closer. The Lamadidron tried to snap at her when she got to close and she was forced to yank her hand back quickly. “No biting!” she scolded. The Lamadidron snorted and turned away from her. She was going to need to do better than that if she wanted to train the thing properly. (Tilly 9 4/5, 5 4/5)

“Do you want one of these yummy gems?” Leafy asked the Lamadidron.
Leafy didn’t think that simply giving the creature the gem outright was good training, but she wanted to make Moss think she was going to do just that. The Lamadidron perked up as the girl rustled the bag that contained the gems. Tilly perked up as well, though she wasn’t interested in eating the gems. They were still shiny, exciting objects that served to enthrall the creature. Leafy lifted one of the gems and held it delicately in front of the Lamadidron’s jaws. The creature immediately reached for the treat, nearly biting Leafy in the process. The girl was quick to yank her hand back.
“No biting!” she commanded harshly.
The Lamadidron jerked his head back, giving a low growl of annoyance in the process. Leafy still clutched the gem in her hand and held it out to the creature once again. Tilly chittered happily as the Lamadidron leaned in close to take the treat. This time he was gentle and he managed to grab the treat without biting Leafy’s fingers off.
“That’s a good job!” she praised him. “Now if you can keep doing it like that, you will be able to learn in no time!”

She felt herself starting to grow more comfortable with working with the new creature. The Lamadidron might have had an issue with biting furniture, but it seemed stable enough in temperament otherwise. She didn’t quite know how to go about curing that issue, but teaching the creature not to bite humans seemed like a good start to solving it. Tilly was excited enough to be a part of the training exercise. Leafy waved her fingers close to the Lamadidron’s mouth, quickly snatching her hand away when the creature snapped at them.
“No bites!” she scolded him.
Moss had at least enough sense to look properly scolded. He let out a low growl that seemed almost apologetic, but it could have also been one of simple frustration at being admonished. Tilly climbed back up Leafy’s shoulder as the girl moved to grab another gem from the pouch she was carrying. She positioned the gem so that it sat in the middle of her palm. That was the safest place to keep a treat if you didn’t want to get bitten. She held her palm out towards the Lamadidron and praised the creature when he took the treat without biting into her skin.

A strange individual walks past while rubbernecking at your training progress. They were walking a huge murp on a lead; the creature eventually drags them away from you. Were they... Checking on your progress?

Leafy felt confident in her steadily growing rapport with the Lamadidron. Moss was a bit difficult to work with, but he was easy to calm down if she gave him a treat. The progress was going steadily and Leafy found herself confident in her ability to train the creature. Just as Leafy was prepared to test the Lamadidron’s ability to refrain from biting once again, she noticed Tilly watching something in the distance. The shape was a little difficult to make out at first, but it was gradually moving closer to the trio. Tilly sat up straighter on Leafy’s shoulder. Her muscles were tense, prepared to flee behind the curtain of Leafy’s hair if she needed to hide.
“Shhh, it’s okay,” the girl tried to reassure the tiny creature.
Moss raised his head and stared at the person walking towards them in interest. The distraction was not an ideal condition for training. Leafy felt herself tense as the person drew closer to them. They were leading a Murp along, but their attention was fixed solely on the girl and her pets. Leafy shivered and she averted her gaze. This person was definitely staring at her and that was certainly unnerving.

The person slowly walked away and Leafy made sure to keep an eye on them as they left. It seemed strange that they were so interested in her, but there was nothing to be done about it now that they were gone. She snapped her fingers together, trying to regain Moss’s attention as he stared off into the distance. Her snapping attracted the attention of Tilly as well and the small creature climbed down the length of her arm to inspect her fingers. When she realized that the girl was holding nothing of interest, she elected to simply sit on her the top of her hand.
“Alright Moss, let’s get back to work!” she declared.
Moss tilted his head as he regarded her. Leafy figured she might as well work on the other trick she was meant to train him as well. It wouldn’t do her any good if she only managed to teach him the one thing and she could work on both tricks at the same time.
“We’re going to learn tail slap!” she told him.
Tail slap was not exactly something she had ever trained before, but Leafy had an idea on how to teach it. Hopefully Moss would be a quick learner.

Leafy stepped over towards Moss and positioned herself so that she was standing behind him. Tilly clung to her shirt as she walked. The little Puff Razor might not have been super helpful to have during training, but she offered Leafy a certain level of comfort. It helped give the girl the confidence she needed to work with the Lamadidron. She hadn’t taught any of her creatures how to slap their tails but she felt it would be best to start by making Moss aware of how she wanted him to move his tail. She patted the end of his tail, doing it softly more for her sake than his. She didn’t want to break her hand by giving him encouragement.
“Okay, I’m going to need you to lift your tail just like this and then slap it against the ground,” she explained to him.
She raised his tail to demonstrate and then let it go. When Moss made no move to stop his tail from smacking against the ground, she praised him.
“That’s a great start!” she exclaimed.
She decided that was worth a gem treat so she fished one out of the bag. This would also be a good opportunity to test his ability to refrain from biting her.

It took Leafy most of the day to feel confident that she had completed the Lamadidron’s training properly. It had taken nearly a third of the bag of gems to satisfy Moss and to teach him no bites and tail slap. It was definitely worth it though. She expected that completing this task would garner her some good will in the universe. Tilly had grown sleepy and was currently tucked against her neck. Leafy was impressed at the small creature’s ability to stay balanced even while sleeping. She took the time to carefully attach Moss to a lead and began to head out of the park.
“Your owner will be very happy to see you!” she exclaimed.
The creature grumbled in response, though she doubted that he had understood her words. A lot of creatures liked to respond to her words with their own noises. Leafy knew that they liked to try and communicate with her even if they couldn’t understand what she was saying. Tilly curled up closer, blinking open sleepy eyes as she felt the girl start to walk out of the park. She curled her tail around Leafy’s neck and snuggled closer as they led the Lamadidron back to its home.
