A low humm became apparent not soon after the sparks began, inaudible at first but gradually climbing in pitch until even the mammalian's rather plain ears could begin to pick it up. It wasn't sound, necessarily, but more a tone that just seemed to come with the thicker air and heavier clouds above. Except, at its centre wasn't the storm, but the tat-lung.
There was a certain divine nature to his kind, and he never felt closer to that divinity than when the skies flashed and rumbled, as if that's where he had been meant to be, what he meant to be. But he also knew that divinity had a price he was not willing to pay, and so forever and ever continued to hold back from it, keeping it all in, refusing basic instinct. That empathic numbness, that distance of reason.. The Static. Little sparks of electricity flashed off of his form, only giving a hint of the energy surging beneath, kept at bay. There was a thin grey line between complete refusal and giving in, a line he had learned to feel out and exist in through training with the mammalian - the thunder to soothe his soul, the comfort of knowing it would not ask its price.
Above the clouds were dark and as thick as the air, a tension present enough that the mammalian could feel her fur prickle. A tension interrupted with a sudden gust of flames that the tat-lung quickly flinched back and away from, snaking his way around the heat wave and to the other side again, a distance between himself and the thundergug kept constant. The brave mask had fallen and instead there was a look of serenity, all that internal build-up finally finding escape.
Darky kept her eyes on the thundergug, knowing they can only dodge so many attempts on them. This was going to be something.. new. They had never tried the combination, much less on something as hardy as a thundergug. The broader, arcing strike had once worked on some undead equillion, effectively saving the day, but this was going to be a lot more concentrated than that. Finally, she spoke with a vague solemness, hands on the bar, "Det, chiabirel."
The pitched note had continued to ascend until it went out of hearing range for the humanoids. The silence lasted a deafening three seconds as Det extended his hands, the sky above growing darker. Then, with glowing eyes and a sudden clench of claws, the silence breathed in, held, and shattered. All the tension was released in one sudden go as the air in the middle of the arena split apart into a blinding white column from above to thundergug and then everything else went white.
