These little cat things were addicting. As soon as they'd seen the kits from Echo and Honey, they'd known they needed more in their life. So, they'd gone out searching for someone who would let them borrow their kittens, and found a set that were too beautiful to pass up. A rich pink and purple male with golden eyes, and a butterfly winged girl that almost seemed to glow? The name was perfect, even. Glowfly. They couldn't resist, and found themself back in the same place they'd been before; they even got lucky with the same room. They opened up the door to the cages and stepped back, finding their seat in the corner and resting with a new book. Hopefully this one went as fast as the last one did.
Immediately upon being released from their cages, they ignored one another to start scampering around the room, sniffing rapidly. Glowfly had been here before, just not in this exact room; she knew exactly what was going on. Being left alone in a room with a male pachee again? Business as usual. Thyst, however, had never been here before. He was used to where he was kept around a lot of others like him, but this place was...new.

Glowfly finished examining the room first, resting on top of a piece of furniture designed to look like a tree. She watched Thyst still sniffing around the room, and he finally focused on her. The first thing he noticed was, of course, the wings- different from the tufts of grass that grew along his back. He squinted at the top of the tree, wondering how he'd be able to scale it himself. He bunched up his legs, his tail wiggling a bit- and then launched himself at one of the lower tiers. A few hops later and he found himself one tier below her; there certainly wasn't enough room for him to actually get up to where she was. He fixed her in his golden-colored eyes, taking in her details. She had a strange marking on her head that he'd never seen before, and none of the little spores on her tail that he was used to seeing on others like him. She was intriguing, and he wondered why she was so different.
Aura yawned softly, skimming through the book. Today, they'd picked out a local cookbook that featured some of the vegetables and herbs they could grow; they needed as much research as they could get to prepare for the opening of their cafe.

She was amused by his investigation of her, and dangled her tail in front of him for just a moment. He leaned his nose out to sniff it, and then she took flight, gliding over to the open window and resting on the sill. The sunlight coming in filtered through her wings, leaving a beautiful scattering of green light on the floor. She was radiant, and with every flutter of her wings she cast those jewel tones over the floor and walls. He stared, perplexed by them. Glowfly was like no pachee Thyst had ever seen. He scurried down the tree, nearly skidding across the floor in the process. Her silver eyes followed his progress in amusement; she realized, suddenly, that this must be a new experience for him. He was acting as if he did not understand her, or why she was so different. From the scents all over him, he had been around some of her family members, so her wings would not be the thing he considered so strange.
The ssashirk was surprised when, by the end of reading, they hadn't found anything truly interesting. Did no one experiment here? They glanced over at the pachee, watching the tips of Thyst's tail. Pachee pollen mixed with some herbs could, potentially, make a lovely tea...

Thyst approached her slowly, reverently, watching the way the sun glittered off her wings. Had any pachee ever been so beautiful? Even without the pollen on her tail, she was the most incredible creature he'd ever seen. Sure, he'd seen other pachee around where he lived with those kinds of wings, but that wasn't what kept his attention. It was her regality, the way she cast the light over the floor intentionally, the silver of her eyes. He sat down below the windowsill and lifted up on his hind legs, trying to sniff at her again. Her scent was like those he spent all his time around, but also so different. It was pleasant, and even without the back grasses, she had a sweet smell like summer flowers. She leaned down, sniffing him in return; his scent was pleasant enough. He was certainly inexperienced, since he wasn't courting her. His vibrant colors and gentle demeanor appealed to her in a way she hadn't expected. He was strangely beautiful. Perhaps she'd continue to torture him for only a little, and then she might accept his pollen as she had others before him.
"No, pachee pollen tea is probably a terrible idea," Aura muttered to themself. They hadn't exactly tasted pachee pollen, but it was probably unpleasant...

After accepting this, she jumped down from the sill again to land next to him. She brushed her shoulder up against his as she passed, giving a light purr- and then darted to the other side of the room. She didn't fly; she wanted to give him a fair chance at catching her. After all, if he could catch her, then he had some skill beyond looking pretty. It wasn't his fault he didn't have wings. If he was a fast runner, that was enough, and perhaps she would give their kits the gift of flight. Oblivious to her thoughts, he watched her tail fly past. His mind still shimmered in pleasure from how good it had felt for her to brush past him; it took him too long to realize that was the classic, universal signal that it was play time. He bounded after her, eyes gleaming. With the males he'd play with, he tended to just pounce them and then take off and see if they could catch him back. She stayed just out of his reach for a few moments, but he was steadily gaining.
Then again, Aura had never tried the pollen before. They glanced up at where the pachee were playing chase. Would there be enough scattered around after this play session for a taste test?

She realized too late that without taking flight, she was caught. His body barreled into her, and she went sprawling out- before his weight was gone. She looked around, trying to figure out where he'd gone, and realized he had taken off running. Ah! He wanted to play tag. With a mischievous grin, she ran after him, keeping just to her feet for the moment. Flying would give her an unfair advantage; she wanted to see if she could chase him down without it. Her legs were a blur beneath her, and her sides heaved as they spun around the room. He always stayed just out of reach, sometimes using the environment to his advantage. Thyst would jump onto one of the branches of the tree and then, using it like a springboard, end up much father ahead of her than she might have anticipated. She was going to have to fly if she wanted to catch him, she realized. It was just as well; he'd proven himself a capable mate for the moment. Glowfly leaped from the ground, giving a powerful flap of her butterfly wings as she dove towards him.
They made a face, and went back to looking at their book. No, they'd just have to settle for some lavender tea...

She landed on him, triumphant in her victory. Glowfly kept him pinned for a few moments, both of their chests heaving from how much exertion they'd put themselves under. If she had not chosen to fly, she never would have caught him. He didn't seem to mind losing- in fact, he was staring up at her, eyes wide. Up close, she was even prettier. The dots on her wings were like tiny diamonds, and her eyes were pools of mercury; shimmering, irresistible. His breathing started to calm, but he didn't want her to stop being near him. Thankfully, she didn't; she only shifted so that she could curl up against his side, beginning to bathe between his ears. Thyst was in heaven from how nice it felt to be cuddling; though he had plenty of companionship back at the gardens, this was not a kind he was used to. He stretched his neck, angling as best as he could so that he could return the favor. Grooming her was its own special brand of heaven, though it wasn't in some kind of creepy way; the rhythm was hypnotic.
Aura glanced up to check on them again, and saw their zoomies had turned into bathtime. It looked to be going well; they wondered if all pachee just naturally got along.

After a thorough bath, they just lay together; Glowfly started to purr, and the low, comforting rumble elicited the same response out of Thyst. He leaned his head into her, nuzzling along her cheek and neck. She was so soft, and none of the other pachee he was around would let him do this. Sure, sometimes they'd all fall asleep in one big pile, but this was different. This was... Intimate. Loving. He realized that this was some of the scents he'd picked up earlier in his inspection of the room, and the mystery scent finally occurred to him. Sometimes, his owner brought home tiny little pachees that smelled of warmth and love. This place smelled most heavily of that, the bright eyed little kits that appeared every so often. Was this where they came from? Had that been why he'd been brought here? The thought was startling, especially with that he wasn't quite sure what to do- but when he looked at Glowfly, he could see the knowledge in her gaze. She was waiting on him for something. He just had to figure out what.
So, their first menu item could be lavender-infused tea. What about a baked good? They could probably grow some good berries and pastry to make a tart. That would take time; they'd have to buy some first...

The confusion on his face was endearing, and she realized he wasn't going to figure it out without a little nudge in the right direction from her. She continued her bathing down to his tail, mixing it in with her rumbling purrs. Almost immediately, his tail started to vibrate. Instincts overpowered everything, including inexperience. She was careful to keep her extra eyelid engaged; she'd learned what happened when even a tiny bit of pollen got stuck in, say, the corner of the eye. Within moments, there was a low cloud of the little yellow spores that he carried on the ends of his tail, and she felt the strange, hazy sensation clouding her mind again. There was always something weird about her vision, too, like she couldn't quite see as much...But she wanted to believe that was more about the extra eyelid than anything else. Once she saw that most of his pollen was no longer attached to his tail, she stopped bathing his tail, and gave him another nuzzle along the neck. Glowfly didn't mind teaching him; at least he was sweet about it.
Aura was lost in thought about where they could acquire fresh, locally grown berries, when they noticed the cloud of excess pollen approaching their face rapidly. "Shit. Time to go," they thought to themself, standing up.

Aura approached the pachee, still snuggling and purring, despite the ssashirk being quite sure that Glowfly had been appropriately receptive. They scooped each of them up, separating them once again and placing them into their respective cages. They'd take Glowfly up to the front just to make sure it took, but judging by the pollen everywhere, everything was as it should be. They retrieved a box of wipes, rubbing down every surface covered in the tiny yellow substance; it was only proper that they clean up after themself, after all. Once that was done, they swept up the floor, and packed up their books; they didn't want to stay too much longer. They had some recipes they needed to give a shot. They stopped to consider a small pile of pollen that they'd missed in their initial scouting; would it really be so bad to experiment with it...?
"Yes, absolutely," they muttered to themself, and cleaned it up as well. With that settled, they peeked their head into each cage to see how they were doing before being returned to Jack. Glowfly was fast asleep; she'd probably done the most work, after all. Thyst looked tired, but kept looking over to where he could smell Glowfly, clearly slightly sad to have been separated from her.

Two purpley babies; one male and one female. Did they come from outer space?
