Morgan had went home to get ready after they were asked to perform the dirty work of the Archmage's supposed 'highest ranked' understudy. Morgan wasn't exactly impressed with him. Sure, the idea was stealth, but how could he entrust something that mattered so much to him to some random person he just saw? Talk about desperate. Morgan scoffed at him on the way home, but went to pick up their backpack with some supplies, and two of the fireworks guns. They didn't know really how to use their pistol yet, but the two fireworks guns would be good enough, Morgan figured. On the way out the door, Morgan felt something grab on to their pants, and they turned around, eyes squinted.
It was Nico. He had his jaws clamped firmly around Morgan's pants leg, and he was looking up at Morgan determinedly. "Ah, you want to come with me. Too bad, it's too dangerous." Morgan said, seriously. Still, the creature refused to let go. Morgan finally sighed, and grabbed the whistle on the way out the door, allowing Nico to come with them to the tower. Nico was a liability, but he refused to let Morgan go by theirself.

Morgan couldn't help but smile softly as they entered the back door to the archmage's tower. Nico seemed as stalwart as ever, despite the fact that this was not going to be a mere walk in the park. One of the lower ranking mages lead them to the cellar door, with a sort of condescending facial expression. Morgan returned it without issue; snarking- "I can tell how you got the job." before giving their form a once-over and smirking. The individual gave them a shocked expression after a second of thought, and Morgan strode past and opened the door to the cellar, Nico practically dancing on his light feet with his head held up high past the lower ranking mage. A creature after Morgan's own heart, it would seem. "Come on boy, let's leave the sitting pretty for the riff-raff." Nico's tail wagged as they began to step down the long and twisting staircase of the cellar steps.

Morgan had swallowed their node; and as such, the mage's guild would never take them in most likely. Supposedly, any mage worth their salt would not dare swallow a node and waste all of the future potential. It was the reason why a lot of good mages are old as dirt. Nodes took a lot out of one it would seem, and Morgan would always, always look down on this place for taking a more 'mystical' approach to a more, in Morgan's opinion, Scientific study. Morgan could tell that everyone here could tell that they were an elemental as well; Morgan could feel their own chaos buzzing, the electrical sing-song in the air, numbing lips and stuttering hearts. Their eyes glowed faintly, but Morgan was glad that the mages were smart enough to at the very least put lights in their petty little dungeon. Nico followed close at Morgan's heals, beginning to take the situation a bit more seriously, since he could feel Morgan's own emotions going that way.

Morgan had a healthy amount of caution, of course, but also was more curious about what could have the young mage up in such a tizzy, as well as a bit excited at the prospect of such an interesting situation. Morgan was mostly just glad that the mages had enough sense to put lights down this spiraling staircase, down into the depths. It would make it easier to take on... Whatever this was. The mage that had asked for the help was either a wuss, or terrified of how angry the archmage would be if she found out; either way Morgan knew innately that humans were selfish, and that was why they were here now. Morgan placed a hand along the well-made banister of the staircase; it was made of high quality maple wood, with a nice rustic stain down it. Morgan was well versed in carpentry; and sometimes they rather enjoyed checking out the apparent wealth of others.
Morgan was almost proud when Nico decided that an ornate end table on one of the flight-stops looked like a good place to take a whizz.

"Oh nooo- don't stoop thaat." Morgan said, chuckling, not meaning a single word of it as Nico did what he had to do. The carpet was really nice too; a plush burgundy. It was a total shame. Ah well, they shouldn't have asked for help from random folks near the quest board if they wanted someone to respect their stupid facility anyway. Nico finished up and bounded over to Morgan, wagging his tail and looking up expectantly. The bespectacled human allowed a moment of weakness; "Good boyo, now let's get down there." They started down the winding staircase again.
Morgan wasn't even sure really what to look for; the individual had just said that there was a monster in the basement that needed slaying. They didn't say anything about what it could do, where it was exactly, or what the strengths or weaknesses were. Just as well, Morgan could figure things out with speed.

Of course, Morgan had Nico to worry about as well. Morgan would never verbally admit it, but Nico was almost a part of them now, perhaps even the best part, and Morgan hated the idea of him being in danger. However, Morgan also knew that the best place for him was by their side; no where was safer in this world. Morgan didn't mind bringing him on adventures, they figured. As long as he performed well enough, Morgan didn't mind. He was more of a liability, this go around, but really, who wasn't on their first real adventure? Morgan was still wary, however, and kept looking up, down, and all around for the enemy that was undoubtedly somewhere around here. Just how far down did this winding staircase go, anyway? Perhaps they should have made a show of asking a billion questions. It would have annoyed those uppity mages, anyway, and that was always good in Morgan's book.

Morgan probably looked quite... Dangerous. An excited gleam about the eye while remaining wary, an electrical impulse about the air around them feeling very dangerous, and two fireworks guns strapped to their waist, one at each side. The great sweep of their labcoat, practically dusting the steps with each movement, was taking a bit of the danger aspect away from them, at least; it looked more comical than anything. The human was still watching intently. "Well Nico, I don't know if we're ever going to find it. Maybe the dang thing keeled off and died in here. You smell anything rank?" They turned up their nose a bit and wiggled it, and Nico brushed against their leg like a herding hound would do. Morgan was practically... Enjoying theirself. This is what an adventure should feel like, no? Nico suddenly stops, sniffs the air, and peers down between the slats in the banister, down at the darkness below. "You hear something, Nico?"

Morgan moved over to the banister swiftly, and then stared down into the darkness. Morgan could feel a sort of tingling in the back of their head, and just before a great shadow descended upon them, Morgan grabbed the puppy and rolled back and away, as close to the wall as possible. The thing screeched as it glided down into the darkness below. Well, obviously, it had wings. Morgan stood up immediately, holding the pup in their arms protectively before putting it down on the carpet. Morgan sneered, and glared down into the darkness again, searching for the thing; any sign of it. Morgan could hear it roost below, somewhere, judging by the sound of wings stopping quite abruptly with a great sweep. Morgan was silent now, and hoped that Nico would stay quiet too, just based off of the merit of what was going on. Of course, the creature could tell, just based off of Morgan's emotions, that this wasn't something to mess with.

The pair still had no idea what they were working with, not really, however; at least they new it flew. That was good to know. It had been above them somehow the entire time as well; and information could be gleaned from that as well. Morgan distinctly remembered looking up when they entered the stairwell; so they should have seen it up there, somewhere. That meant that there was some way this thing had used to be able to hide from them originally. There was also a good chance that it was not physically strong, seeing as it was using deception as a sort of hunting strategy. It was also a pretty good assumption to think that it was at least partially carnivorous; perhaps omnivorous, as well? Morgan tried to concentrate, to see if they could feel any electricity around them; and wasn't able to pick anything up. Morgan began moving forward as quietly as possible, keeping Nico close by.

Perhaps trying to use the magic to figure things out just by feeling them wasn't exactly the most reliable idea; but Morgan still hadn't really figured out the range on it yet anyway. It was much easier to focus on one thing at a time, and that was all Morgan really knew about it. Perhaps it had to do with selecting victims for the seizure-causing powers of the chaos node. Morgan considered this to keep theirself calm and objective as they continued down the flight of stairs, houluh pup at their heels. Perhaps it would have been a bit smarter to bring Michiryuu today; but Morgan was convinced that they could take down the monster on their own; Morgan was also quite excited of that prospect. Still, they were more cautious than they would normally have been due to Nico's presence. At least he was close by. As long as he was close by, Morgan could control the situation just fine.

Morgan was not, at first, considering actually battle training the houluh. Morgan was fine with Nico being mostly a show pet for the most part, perhaps a very useful helper-buddy if needed to be. However, Morgan was beginning to realize that he needed self-defense training. Morgan could certainly do this, though it would take a lot of work in the long run. The bespectacled human did not at all mind however, because it was needed. Morgan couldn't imagine letting something happen to Nico; and if something did happen, Morgan wanted him to be prepared. As of right now, he was certainly not prepared, and Morgan would have to take care of the creature entirely. For now, Morgan was willing to do that. Perhaps their impulsivity was not exactly a good thing; in the long run. Morgan zealously guarded the small hound as they walked down and down the winding staircase. The pair had no idea when they'd run up on the creature again, so Morgan had their hand on the fireworks gun to their left side.

Leave it to Morgan to finally realize something very important as they were doing something incredibly dangerous. The bespectacled human crouched low against the banister, trying to see if they couldn't manage to find the creature eventually before it could see them. That was the important part, currently, outmaneuvering and out-planning the thing was absolutely tantamount at this point. Whatever the thing was. It sure had been quite large, and Morgan was excited to see what it would be like once they got a good visual on it in light. Nico, on the other hand, was acting far more protective of Morgan than Morgan was of him, perhaps surprisingly. Morgan stayed silent, and Nico did as well as they continued to creep down the winding staircase. Morgan swore that they had something similar to this in a nightmare once; something was chasing them in that dream, thankfully, nothing seemed to be chasing them right now, at least.

Down and down they went, with the staircase spiraling in. Morgan was beginning to feel a bit dizzy, and gently squeezed the inner part of their thumb and focused on attempting to keep their head from spinning. Vertigo was not something that Morgan was used to feeling in the slightest; they never really experienced it, even when up high. Morgan nonetheless continued down and down the steps. When would this end? Just how deep was this pit anyway? Morgan was tempted to use their magic to move closer to the bottom, but wasn't sure how they knew that they could somehow do that, anyway. Morgan wasn't sure if they could really control it or know enough about it to truly use it right now, anyway. Still, it was important that they get a glance at that critter before they get down to it and get seen anyway. Morgan felt... Like they were being watched, very very suddenly. They glanced up, and then behind them immediately.
Morgan bent down, scooped up the puppy, and took off running, barreling down the steps at the fastest rate that their legs could carry them; just like a horrible nightmare, something was indeed chasing them, and Morgan had no idea what it was. They hadn't got a good look at it, really, since it was going so very fast indeed.

Logic dictated that despite the coincidence of Morgan having had a dream like this once, that it was probably the creature chasing them. How it got behind them without Morgan knowing was one thing; because it was kind of loud now that Morgan really thought about it. After a few flights of steps and a stitch in Morgan's side from carrying the puppy and running at the same time, Morgan finally decided to turn and shoot. They turned around, and hardly took aim before shooting the blue fireworks shooter at it. They weren't really figuring that they would hit it; and Morgan was quite surprised when, through all of the strange things that could have happened, it did in fact shoot a blue firework at the enemy, and it actually hit with a loud bang and pop. Whatever the thing was unraveled into black bits on the floor... And then disappeared. Ah, aha, Morgan was beginning to get an understanding of what was going on here.
