Morgan figured that not only was the creature a stealth hunter, but it also had some sort of mind-altering, strange dream mist or something going on. It had to be scentless, since neither Morgan nor Nico seemed to notice it. But this was certainly some kind of odd dream. Morgan frowns quietly, stopping suddenly, wondering now exactly how they would tackle this enemy. It was dangerous without even being visible, and for all Morgan knew, the creature could probably be invisible too. Morgan wished that the underling had told them exactly what was going on with this creature, but it was beginning to become clearer the 'why' that this creature would need a non-mage to kill it. It was probably just difficult to find. There wasn't a whole lot that they could lose by getting someone that wasn't a mage to try to take this thing on. Well, the good thing was, Morgan was ready for it. As ready as one could be.

Perhaps if the underling wasn't so afraid of being caught by the archmage or whatever, he could have done this himself, or gotten some help, and they wouldn't be sending random people to what, for some people, might be a demise. Morgan, however, was not afraid of this; more just worried for the safety of the houluh. Without him, Morgan was sure that they would already have killed the monster and got on with their life; but the tiny houluh was determined to hang with Morgan irregardless of the danger, or perhaps because of it. Nico was getting quite protective of Morgan, and that was not something that Morgan would have expected in general. Morgan silently slunk down the winding staircase as quickly as possible while not being too loud. They knew that the firing of the loud blast there probably alerted the creature of their exact area, meaning they may be attacked this go around again.

Morgan wished they knew more about the creature, and was about ready to begin grumbling about the idiot when suddenly, they heard the flapping of the feathered wings again. Morgan cursed beneath their breath, and then moved closer to the wall, knowing that this was the best place for them in case the thing began to attack them. Morgan moved as quickly down and around the carpeted stairway, around and around in circles, hoping that the creature wouldn't be able to attack them because they were as far away as possible from the shot that Morgan had released on the false enemy from earlier. The houluh was silent in Morgan's arms, but his ears were raised slightly in the direction of the sound. Morgan saw it; as it shot up to the area from below where the shot had went off. The dismayed sound of a frustrated flying beastie that couldn't find the prey was deafening.

Morgan took the moment to stop and gently place the houluh up against their chest with their off arm. It would certainly be difficult to fight the creature with the houluh in Morgan's arms, but the bespectacled human felt like the creature was in the safest spot in the room up against Morgan's chest. The human stood in one place, and waited. The creature was moving around on the flights of stairs above them, Morgan could hear it; it sounded loud. That was... Not something the human would have expected. Things that flew couldn't be too heavy, could they? Well, bird-like ones, anyway. Sarane were pretty heavy, Morgan reminded theirself. It seemed that they were having a hard time clearing their mind, so they took a moment to process the situation, and what to do. Morgan held out the now recharged firework gun and aimed it at the general space in the middle of the winding circle stairwell.

It was time to wait now. Wait until the creature either wound its way down the spiral staircase down to where the bespectacled human and the houluh puppy stood, or until it swung down here on it's arc back down the flights of steps. Morgan knew that it was actively on the prowl now, and there was no way that it would just forget about them. That was good. That was what Morgan was wanting; for it to come to them. Morgan was sure that between their magic and the fireworks gun; that they could kill the creature and then go to collect the reward. That was what Morgan hoped, anyway, desperately. Morgan tried to be quiet, and the houluh pressed up against their chest quietly. Waiting, waiting, waiting. Finally, the noises stopped, and Morgan could hear their heartbeat in their head, they'd been focusing so much on it. Ah; there it was.

Morgan could hear it take off and begin flying, and then could hear the whistling of the air between the feathers, spilling. Here it comes... Morgan waited until the timing was right, and then pulled the trigger on the fireworks gun. It had terrible aim, and Morgan had been hoping for that. It flew through the wispy, strange creature and exploded, forcing it out of the hazy and dark incorporeal form it had taken, and forcing it to fall down on the carpet in front of them. It was time. Morgan put the houluh down and stood in front of him, and then focused on the creature's electrical impulses, the bits between the mind, and then found a particularly weak bit. The bespectacled human grabbed it and YANKED, the electricity between the neurons on the creature crackling. Immediately, the creature began having a seizure. Morgan stared at it, waiting for the fireworks gun to recharge, and waiting until the buzzing in their head would stop.
The creature did not get back up. The pair packed the creature up and left, feeling quite tired from the ordeal. That understudy guy better be glad.
