Jack and Alexei glanced at each other when the noise hit, and Jack gulped a tad just in case. She wasn't sure what to think of this, they were going to find something sooner or later she figured, but what would they do? It wasn't like she was going to politely ask it to leave, they were going to have to fight whatever it was, and hopefully Alexei could handle it, because the way it made her head feel, she wasn't sure she could do anything about it. Jack took a deep breath and forged on down the stairs, Alexei walking behind her, craning his neck around the spiral to see if there was anything ahead of them. They finally reached the bottom and the noises were more louder now. Snuffling and a kind of hoarse barking were heard, and the two looked at each other again. He wasn't sure what they were going to fight, but fight they would and to hell with the consequences. Jack pressed on with Alexei at her side, going ahead of her if there wasn't enough room to be by her side and all. She wondered if things were going well so far, but she really didn't know...

The snuffling sound was getting closer, and something turned the corner ahead of them. They couldn't see it too well just yet, just a massive shadowy figure at the end of the hallway sniffing at the floor. Jack swallowed and grabbed her node pouch as Alexei stood defensively in front of her. He swung his head around and softly said, "Go." She simply shook her head and glared at him with determined eyes, "Not a chance." Alexei snorted and pawed at the ground for a moment, claws making a little sound when they raked over the stone floor and they attracted the attention of the hulking creature, which snarled and gave another hoarse bark as it looked at them. Jack swore under her breath, smacked Alexei on the haunch, and then summoned a mote of light over her shoulder to blind the other creature. She warned Alexei it was coming and he closed his eyes for a moment so they wouldn't have to adjust as badly, but the other thing howled and clawed at it's eyes. All.... three of them? She stared, it was a golem, of sorts, a magical one, man made, which meant this was something one of the Understudies had made.

In fact, it was probably the Lead Understudy, she figured with a scowl as she looked at the brown patchwork creature in front of them. It was massive and lumbered around, crashing into the walls as it tried to adjust to the light, she figured it hadn't seen much light until now anyway, especially with how dark the eyes looked from where she was standing. Alexei charged at the beast and pulled his claws back to rake across it's flesh, but they closed up as soon as the wounds were inflicted. He stared and then dodged out of the way of a large hand swooping down to grab at him, probably to try and shake him for the wound. "It heals!" Jack shouted urgently as she tried to figure out a plan of action for the two of them. Alexei had really jumped the gun, but that was alright, things would turn out okay she thought for the moment as she clutched the pouch with her nodes. What could she do for now? She thought about it and nodded before summoning up several vines from the ground to trap it in place. It fought against them as Alexei tried to figure out where to hit it next.

It tilted it's head back and howled like a Vulticus, making the woman clamp her hands over her ears for a moment, damn that was loud. Alexei wouldn't let the challenge go unanswered and roared in return. In the small area it was deafening, something she hadn't fully experienced until now at least. She swore under the noise and then tried to figure out what to do with it. She could drown it, maybe? Jack shook her head, she didn't know what to do, but Alexei did, he rushed forward and clamped down on one of the thing's arms, dragging backward and almost ripping it from it's body. That wasn't bad, but then when he let go, the wound sealed itself again, making her swear once more. Jack shook her head, she didn't know what to think of it, but Alexei raked across it again, and as it healed, he breathed fire onto the wound. It cauterized it, so it wasn't the best idea, but the beast seemed to be scared of fire, and they both got an idea. She summoned fire from herself, just little bits, as Alexei breathed his own fire at the creature, hoping this would at least drive it back.

It did manage to drive it back, and it looked like the wounds on it's stomach from earlier hadn't closed yet. Alexei reared back and raked his long, sharp claws across it's chest and then breathed fire again on it where he had rended it, making it howl again and stumble backward. Jack didn't know what was going to happen to the thing, she wasn't quite ready to make a golem for herself she figured, and so she tried to help as much as she could with things as time went on. It took quite some time, but it finally started to stumble as it moved, the movements were getting sloppy and hard for it to handle, and she wondered if this was it, if this was how things were going to end for it. She really hoped so, but she wasn't going to put all of her faith in it she figured. Chewing on her lip, she helped Alexei any way that she could, but there wasn't much she could do about it still, her strength was waning and she didn't know what to do about it as of yet. Jack pushed her hair back, she was getting weak, and she hated the thought of getting weak.

She heard it again, the snuffling over the howling, and hot breath went down her back. Slowly she turned and yelled at Alexei as she realized there was another one behind her. That was NOT good, she didn't know there were more than one of them! She ran over to her Drake and they stood back to back, trying to decide what to do with the beats. Jack chomped down on the inside of her cheek and then told him to focus on the one that was hurt before summoning a whirlpool of water under the new one so it would be trapped there for a moment. Already sweat was gleaming on the Drake's sides and he was heaving his breath a bit as he moved. This wasn't good, were they outmatched by these golems? Jack refused to believe it she thought. This was NOT how they were going out, she wasn't going to die again, especially not for the Lead Understudy. He could bite it for all she cared, this was hit fault no matter what. She gritted her teeth and heard a whimper behind her. She turned quickly and saw the golem go down. "Go, the other one!" she shouted, going around the Drake to dismantle the first golem.

The amount of golems seems pretty surprising... Is it possible that there are even more? From beyond the shadows, a click-clacking can be heard... Watching, ever watching. Waiting.

As Alexei fought the second golem, the woman tore the first one apart, hoping that it would keep it from coming back again, even though she was sure the magic that bound it was no more. She smiled a little and then turned with a more serious face to help Alexei with the second one. She needn't have bothered, however, as the second golem was almost down as it was. She grabbed one of her swords and Alexei lit it on fire so she could slice through it, one clean cut through the middle from bottom to top. Jack laughed a little as she tore that one up as well, and the Drake thought for a moment the woman had gone mad. But she was just relieved that things had finally ended, and she leaned against the wall as she breathed heavily next to the Drake who was doing the exact same thing. She grinned at him and patted him on the side, but that's when the clicking was heard... She froze and stared into the shadows, trying to piece together what it could be. Something told her she had heard it before, but she wasn't entirely sure where that was at this point.

Jack and Alexei stared into the darkness, the light mote had long since disappeared and they only had Alexei's fire to guide them at this point. He breathed down into the tunnel, already tired from the golems, but then they thought they saw it. It looked like a giant Karzik, like a summoning gone wrong or something. Jack groaned and shouldered her blade for a moment before exchanging looks with Alexei. They were going to have to exterminate everything down here weren't they? She sighed and then lowered the blade and charged alongside Alexei toward the giant beast. She smirked a little as she ran after it, it turned and buzzed off, the deafening sound almost bringing her to her knees, but she had to keep going in order to get this done. It wasn't going to end well for them she was sure, but that was fine at the same time. As long as they could get it done, then things would be fine. Jack knew they could finally do it, she just wasn't sure when it was going to be over. She was going to rip the Head Understudy a new one whenever they got back out, she might even have to go to the Archmage herself.

If she had to go to the Archmage, things would not go well she figured, but at the same time, it was alright. She and Alexei could handle the beasts in the basement, well, the dungeon, without much help, but at least she was trying to get it no matter what. Nothing would go wrong, they could handle it, they were just a little... tired is all. Jack chewed her lip a little as she and the Drake ran after the giant Karzik, and she hoped this was going to be the last one of the beasts, but she had a strong suspicion they weren't done yet, not in the least. They ran after it and then turned the corner, which was a mistake. There was a horde of Karzik in the room around the corner, and Jack yelped, backpedaling as fast as she could after Alexei, who had turned as soon as she had yelped. If something startled her, there was no way he was going to go in there either it seemed. He charged away, outpacing the woman who was running along with him at the moment, and he wondered what was going to happen to them as time went on.

Jack ran as she heard buzzing behind her, Alexei easily outpaced her, but she finally yelled at him to stop and she herself turned and held her twin swords in front of her, waiting for the first wave to appear around the corner she had just turned. The horrendous buzzing got closer and closer, and then they appeared around the corner. Jack hacked and slashed, Alexei breathing fire over her shoulder, singing her hair and clothing but not quite getting her flesh underneath them. One by one the Karzik went down, and she wasn't sure there was ever going to be an end to them, but she really didn't know at the moment. She smiled a little as she tried to figure out what was going on, how were there so many of them all at once in the basement? And how had no one heard of them before? It had to be a recent spell, that was all there was to it she figured. Jack fought against them as they pressed her and the Drake, and she didn't know what to expect from them just yet. They were fighting, or were they fleeing something? Either way, they had to be taken care of.

The Karzik still pressed her and she found herself taking a few steps backward, if only to get off of the pieces she had hacked off so far. Jack's eyes narrowed and she promised herself the Lead Understudy was going to pay. All this and what was he going to offer her? Ha! She wasn't sure anything was going to be worth all this, but she supposed there would be something good at the end of this, even if she left bloodied and battered at the end of it all. Taking a single step forward, she thrust into the last of the small Karzik, eyeing the mound of carnage in front of herself and the Drake. Things were almost over, they had to take down the big one still she figured, but she wasn't quite sure where it was for the moment. They were going to have to chase it down she assumed.

The Drake leaned against the wall at the same time she did, and she let the swords dangle at her sides for now, wondering what they were going to do in the future. She just didn't know, but she supposed that was part of the excitement of it all, she hadn't had a fight like this in a long, long time after all. Smiling, she pushed off of the wall and climbed over the heap of bodies and body parts, Alexei gingerly following her. He was a little squeamish for a dominant Drake, apparently. Chuckling to herself, they both continued on, trying to find the giant Karzik, wondering what they were going to do with things as of yet. Whatever happened, she was going to kick the Lead Understudy in his ass, she didn't care what was going on at the time, and that was fine, as long as he learned his lesson and all.
