Most people wouldn’t agree with that statement obviously, but she was trying to get to that point. She was good at speaking, had a great deal of natural charisma, and wasn’t afraid to put in the effort to get people on her side- canvassing, giving speeches, passing out fliers. She had tried to do that in the rights vs. shield movement a few months back, though it fizzled out before she was able to get anything done. She was still working on it in the long run though, currently working as a public speech giver, with eyes on higher positions in the government. Her days of violent takeovers were over, but that didn’t mean that Fiera didn’t set her sights high. She would get what she wanted, one way or another. And what she wanted was power, money, and nice things. What could she say- she was a simple gal.

As she mined and thought about her future ambitions, a new note broke through the haze of Fiera’s thoughts. Something about the rock was different. She slowed down for a moment trying to pin it down. Her eyes squinted and her ears twitched, trying to figure it out. Lunara seemed grateful for the change, as it gave her more time to clear away the rocks that Fiera kept sending clattering to the floor, snatching them up and taking them away. The humanish wasn’t sure where the yumenokei was putting all of these chunks by this point, but she wasn’t about to complain. So long as they were out of her way, she was happy to let Lunara do whatever she wanted with them. After all, it was helpful to her, keeping her from tripping over anything and allowing her to move easily. And easy movement meant faster mining, and faster mining meant more findings.

Still, something was different now, so it was best to go slow. A single subtle change could indicate a lot of things after all, whether it was a flood from some other part of the cave, an imminent cave in, or something else dangerous. It could be a beneficial change too, of course. Sometimes a dubtle difference meant that you were about to stumble onto a treasure trove of gems, or a new part of the cave. Slowly but surely, Fiera pieced the clues together and found that the latter option was most likely in this case. It sounded like her pickaxe was making a different noise when she struck the far wall of the tunnel. She tapped it a few more times to make sure, and then compared it with the walls of the tunnel further toward the entrance, keeping up the same amount of force and timing with the tool.

Sure enough, the cave wall toward the back of the tunnel sounded less high pitched, more… hollow. Like she was reaching some sort of hidden tunnel, perhaps! The lair of a rare beast! Or maybe a giant geode, that she could plunder for a bonanza of gems! Now wouldn’t that be a treat! Fiera eagerly rushed back to the cave wall she had come from and began mining with renewed interest. Regular tunnels were neat of course, but it was always exciting to find something entirely new! As she picked away, she could hear the hollow noise becoming even more clear, with echoes reverberating from the other side of the wall. She was so close! Her mining took up a nigh maniacal pace, and Lunara had all but given up trying to keep up with her owner, taking away a few rocks but otherwise just sitting and staring at Fiera and her antics.

Or perhaps Lunara knew that Fiera was on the brink of something amazing as well. Fiera shot her yumenokei a dazzling smile, excited to see what was coming. Soon, she felt something very different under her pick axe, and her giddiness went through the roof. She pulled it out, and saw.. Light. What had she found? She kept up the pace, breaking a larger and larger hole into the wall. More and more light poured in, and Lunara put up with the loud sounds of Fiera’s mining long enough to investigate the hole herself, sticking right next to Fiera’s leg. Soon the hole was big enough for Fiera to fit her torso into, and the humanish did so almost immediately, poking herself into the passage beyond. Lunara wiggled herself in as well, tucking herself up under Fiera’s abdomen, pulling her large ears out so they didn’t get caught in the hole.

Fiera had found… someone else’s tunnel. Oops. It looked pretty well established, with smoothed walls and lights strung up on little nails pounded into each side of the wall. And Fiera had blown a hole in it. Woops. Fiera thought that maybe it would be worth exploring, when she saw a shadow up ahead to her right. “Hey!” An angry voice shouted. “Is someone in there? Show yourself!” They said, their voice echoing ominously down the hall. Yeah, Fiera wasn’t going to mess around with that. She immediately pulled herself from the hole, beckoning her yumenokei along with her. “Come on Lunara, let’s book it!” She said grabbing her mine cart and heading back toward the mine entrance, going as fast as she dared in order to look casual. Whoever that person was, she didn’t want to be around when they found out that someone had damaged their precious tunnel.

A baby nyssa, admittedly, might not be the best thing to bring into the mines. The little leafy creature would likely be a lot better suited to the gardens. Unfortunately, Fiera had been spending a lot of credits lately and like it or not, the mines were much more profitable than the garden. She had been neglecting her tunnels. Besides, bloodroot nyssa were an... unusual breed. They enjoyed the sun yes, but their foliage was missing that distinct leafy tone that characterized so many other nyssa. It implied that photosynthesis and sunlight weren't quite as necessary as in other nyssa. Still, as Fiera approached the mines, she did feel a little guilty at bringing him down into the depths on what was supposed to be a bonding (and in her case, gem finding and thus money making) trip for the pair of them. She had just bought him, after all. Fiera 16 Serkan 0.1/0.1 1

To her surprise though, she saw a sign stuck in the dirt next to the main entrance to the mines. "Quarry", it read. Fiera raised an eyebrow- she had never been to a quarry, but she certainly knew what it was. That would certainly be a lot better for the two of them than the regular mines. Fiera could get some much needed sun and Serkan could too for that matter. As a plant, he would likely appreciate more than being stuck in a dark cave. She glanced to either side, looking for any indicator that it was fake, and turned off the beaten path to go to the quarry. "Come along, Serkan!" She said, even though she knew that the nyssa didn't know his name nor the command 'come'. It was for her benefit, more than anything. He tilted his head at her curiously and trotted along behind her.

He didn't do it out of any particular loyalty to her, if Fiera had to guess. It was more because Fiera was the most interesting- and most familiar- thing in the area. The cave and the path back to the city weren't exactly inviting by any definition of the word. Fiera started to regret taking this path though, as it was uphill- Fiera's least favorite type of hill. She supposed that made sense- the quarry had to be OVER what most people would consider the mines, digging down from the surface where most people would dig out from the inside. If Serkan was bothered by the walk though, he didn't show it. His pace was as slow but steady as could be. Fiera was able to take the opportunity to slow down a bit too, using Serkan's small size and slow speed as an internal excuse for her own lack of fitness.

When they crested the top of the ridge, Fiera took a moment to absorb the sights of the quarry beneath them. Serkan sniffed the air and yawned, clearly disinterested. Fiera couldn't help but be impressed, though. Before her was a vast field of rocks, boulders of all shapes, sizes, and colors, like the mines below them had thrown up all over the surface. The humanish could see a few other humanoid figures from up here, toiling away in the rock fields. It wasn't nearly as many people as she knew were no doubt in the mines below, though. The quarry was out of most peoples' way, so it was comparatively empty. Fiera was happy to work in it though- all the more gems for her! She reached over and picked up Serkan, ignoring how he hissed in protest, and picked up the rope that was connected to her mine cart.

Serkan struggled against her chest, but she held him tight. Then she stepped off of the lip of the crater and slid down the side of the quarry, her minecart clattering down the slope behind her. All of her equipment was safe inside- this was just the easiest way of getting down there. When she finally slowed to a stop, it was in a small clearing bounded by boulders. Serkan finally ripped himself away from her, hissing loudly and dropping to the ground. "Ok, ok, fine." Fiera said, holding her hands up. "Just trying to help you get down, but do what you want." She said before walking over to her mine cart. She opened it up and sure enough, everything inside was intact. She hadn't mined any gems yet, so she didn't have to worry about anything getting mixed up on the way down. She took out her pick axe and closed it again.

A thin vein of Peridot was running through this area. It's just thick enough to get a good hunk out of!

Yes, her pick axe was likely the most trusty tool she had out of all of her pieces of mining equipment, and her personal favorite as well. It was just plain useful, capable of levering out chunks of rock, piercing through stone, chipping off smaller pieces, and was just generally all around a good tool to have. She scanned the area around the two of them, and her eyes fell upon a nearby boulder. It came up to the bottom of Fiera's ribcage and was well separated from the other rocks. It would make a perfect first victim. She hefted it up as Serkan explored the area, bringing the tool down on the boulder. Immediately, a large chip flew off of the rock, revealing a vein of green beneath the surface of the boulder. Fiera smiled slyly to herself- it looked like she had gotten lucky on her very first try.

She kept chipping away, slicing off the layers of rock above the green vein so more of it was exposed. There wasn't much- it was awfully thin, a leafy line across the surface of the boulder. Fiera was sure she could get something of use out of it though- she'd just have to work a little harder. She kept cracking at it, beads of sweat starting to drip down her neck. It was... warmer than she thought out here. Granted, the mines were usually warm due to being trapped underground and thus keeping the heat of the earth in, but having the sun beating down on you was something else. It was still early spring, but this hard work made it feel like much later in the year. She supposed that was the downside of working above ground. There wasn't even a breeze blowing through the quarry, or at least not right now.
