Or perhaps on some level she did understand what it was, but couldn’t control or handle it yet. Either way, both the young tailypo and the gemmorn thaf was still in the cart with her kept their distance. Fiera could only shrug at their response though- SHE certainly knew what these crystals were for, and knew that she could make good use of them later. It would help that she wouldn’t have to fight her pet to get it back. With that out of the way however, the humanish turned her attention back to the other crystals she had found in the dirt. One was a pearlescent red quartz. Maybe not the most valuable, but Fiera could always appreciate the luster found in such a gem. Perhaps not rare, but definitely pretty. As for the other crystal, it was something that Fiera had never seen before, that was for sure.

If you looked at it in low light, you might never guess it was a crystal at all, as it was dull and grey and shaped like... well, a rock. When Fiera shone her flashlight on it however, it lit up in all sorts of dazzling, beautiful colors, forming a flickering rainbow across its surface. Fiera was a bit too covered in sand to want to get out her gemstone identification guide right now, but she was sure it had to be something special. She nestled it into her mine cart carefully, not wanting to damage it, and picked up the handle to set off once more. A few steps later, they were at the lip of the entrance to the next room. Fiera listened to the sound of flowing water- it didn’t sound too close or too strong, so they would likely be safe to just step right in. And so... she did.

As she stepped into the next room, Fiera’s torchlight slowly crept along the walls, revealing the environment she had stepped into. And... yeah. That certainly was a whole lot of water. Whereas the last room had dried up already due to being higher up, this room was more sunken into the ground (as the sloping floor revealed), causing whatever water that flowed through the earth down here to pool up. Even as she stepped through the gap, little rivulets flowed past her feet, and she found herself watching her footsteps as she descended, careful to not slip. The floor and walls glistened with moisture, and the air smelled like rain despite the humanish being dozens of feet under the surface by this point. Snowdrop seemed interested in this new room as well, her ears flicked up curiously and her nose sniffing the fresh air. It was likely a welcome change.

As the light brightened, Fiera looked at her surroundings. Everywhere she looked there was dappled calcium deposits, smooth and water worn. Water splashed down from the ceiling, running along the floors and collecting in pools that were tiered up toward the entrance, like steps. The water that flowed between them gently dropped off the edges like little waterfalls, leaving only thin strips of dry rock from tier to tier, mostly made up of deposited minerals. It was a beautiful chamber, Fiera had to admit. Not anywhere she’d live herself, no, but it was lovely visiting. Snowdrop seemed fascinated too, staring off the edge of the mine cart, her miniature hoard temporarily forgotten. As Fiera wandered in a daze however, something seemed to catch the tailypo’s eye. The pale colored kitten started making a small clicking sound, her jaw working as her pupils turned to slits, staring right at something further in the caves.

Fiera followed the tailypo’s gaze, flicking her own feline ears up even though she couldn’t hear anything. “You... see something?” She questioned hesitantly as she looked around herself. She didn’t see anything living- they weren’t in danger, right? She looked where Snowdrop was looking however and found the kitten staring intensely at the center pool of this cave. Fiera hummed with concern and gently let go of the mine cart, readying her shovel defensively. If anything around here wanted to take Fiera’s gems, they’d have to pry them from her cold, dead hands. She crept downward toward the pool, which was so clear you wouldnt be able to tell there was water in it at all if it wasn’t moving. It was quite pretty, but she needed her wits about her. She raised her shovel up, looked in, and saw... absolutely nothing in the water.

“Ugh. Guess it was nothing, then! That’s what I get for listening to a cat!” Fiera whined, throwing her hands up. But then... she felt a faint thrumming feeling in her chest. Her water crystal? But... no. The thrumming sensation one felt when a crystal was near (for those that had learned to attune themselves to their presence, that is) usually faded the second one touched the crystal, rendering it still useful for creating nodes, but inert on one’s personal radar. Which meant... “Another one?” Fiera said to herself, scratching her chin. It was rare to find two crystals so close to each other, but she supposed if she was going to find two in a row anywhere, it would be here. This place was literally dripping with water- of course crystals for the element of the water would develop here. Now she just had to find it.

Well, at least she had a good place to start. Snowdrop has been chirping at the center of the room, right? It only made sense to start there. Fiera wasn’t sure how elemental crystals were formed, but she knew it had something to do with the stark presence of existing elements. From there it was unclear if the elements kept feeding their powers into the crystals, or if the crystals maintained a local area with a strong element. To be honest, she had never really come back to an existing area to check. That didn’t stop her now however, as she scanned through the connected pools for a now familiar blue glow. “Now where are you...” she said to herself, before finally noticing something in the depths of the deepest pool. “Aha!” She said as she walked up. There it was, sitting at the bottom of only a couple feet of water.

Fiera saw that it was also surrounded by a colorful variety of other gems, gathered around it as a small hoard. They must have been washed down here by the streams over the years (or months, she didn’t know how long this cavern had been here.), forming a veritable hoard at the bottom of the pond. Needless to say, it was more than enough to make this whole trip worth it! She swiped at the gems a bit with her shovel, but it did nothing but swish them around a little bit. The water elemental crystal pulsed enticingly as it clattered along the bottom of the pond, making Fiera want it just that much more. She swiped at them a bit more, but soon realized that the lip of the stone edged pond that arched over the water would prevent her from pulling them up the wall and out anyway.

It was time to try a different technique. Fiera sighed and tried shoving her shovel under the stones instead so she could bring them up in scoops. And that did work! For a couple of them. The humanish was able to bring up a little blue stone and a similar purple one, but when she tried to get the water elemental crystal, all she succeeded in doing was shoving it against the wall. She hissed to herself before glancing around conspiratorially. Then she set the shovel next to her mine cart and started rolling up her pants legs. “PLEASE don’t be cold...” she begged silently, hoping that these streams came from up under the earth and were pleasantly warm instead of freezing streams from the wintry surface above. Unfortunately for her however, she knew that there was only one way to find out for sure, and that involved getting wet.

Oh god, it WAS cold. Fiera hissed with displeasure as it turned out that her latter theory was the correct one. The fur on her tail immediately poofed up and out, and she sunk into the water like she was dying. It was only two and a half feet deep, but it might as well have been infinite for how much Fiera hated it. Whatever. All she had to do was get in, grab the crystal, and get out. When her feet finally hit the floor, it was surprisingly soft and pleasant- she supposed the waters had also washed a lot of sand in there over time. Still, her dramatics made it take a minute or two to cross the couple feet to the crystal, where she attempted to pick it up between her toes. If she decided to pass on the dramatics, she probably would have been done a lot sooner.

When she finally managed to lean up against the edge of the pool and transfer the crystal from her foot to her hand, the thrumming immediately calmed until she could only barely feel it, pulsing against the skin of her hand. "Nice." She whispered under her breath to herself before hopping out of the pool. She wiped down her legs and put her shoes back in and finally, finally set the crystal in the cart with its fellow. The moment she did though... she felt a different sort of vibration. Her ears perked up a moment- another elemental crystal? But then... no... she realized it was the cavern that was shaking. "What, are you mad I took your crystal?" She sniped at the ceiling, but it didn't reply... unless you counted the increasingly loud rumbles as a reply. "Okay yeah, not sticking around for that." The humanish hissed, and immediately took up her cart handle.

She booked it out of there as quickly as possible (which was more difficult than you'd think, considering how she had to drag her mine cart up a couple of ledges), trying to escape the rumbles before they turned from mere noise into a complete cave in. By the time she got back to the tunnel she used to enter this place, at the end of the random web-tunnels, she heard crumbling rocks further in. "Aw geez. Time to go!" She shouted, and ran as quickly as she could, checking back only occasionally to make sure that Snowdrop hadn't bounced right out of the mine cart. This little trip with both of them had been fun, but Fiera was pretty sure she had milked it for as much as it was worth. She wasn't about to see how lucky she could get with all this. It was about time they went home.
