Still, wherever this water was coming from, it seemed like it would be a while until she found its source. The river was still expanding and contracting as she went instead of steadily shrinking as water entered through tributaries and flowed out again through channels unseen... though she quietly hoped that none of them collapsed as she walked over top of them. Snowdrop, to her credit, seemed to be calming down a bit. Once the initial shock of this new sight passed she seemed quite interested in the water, but not to the point of stupidity. Instead she stayed perched on Fiera's shoulders, her ears flicking back and forth as she attempted to track the sound of the water, her bright blue eyes glancing from side to side to watch it pass in the dim light. Fiera smiled- even if this might be a long walk for her, at least Snowdrop was entertained.

And so she continued, still scooping up those tiny glittering stones every so often. She couldn't be entirely sure that they weren't smoothed glass, now that she thought of it. It would be just as easy for the river to smooth down shards of glass from a broken bottle someone discarded down here as it would be to smooth down natural gemstones prised out of the wall. Still, it was something that she could easily check when she got out. Even if they were useless, she could always say that she was trying to clean up the mines and was looking to recycle them if Kor called her on it. He couldn't possibly know how to identify EVERY gemstone, right? ...Right? She hummed to herself as she quietly wondered what the best way to pull a fast one on the shopkeeper of The Underground would be and eventually decided that perhaps it would be best to not try at all.

As she walked however, she could hear the water getting quieter. Perhaps the main river was guttering out after all, or perhaps... she looked up above her. Sure enough, the cave was widening around her. The ceiling was originally only about half a foot above her head from where she started, but now it stretched up to three feet above her, and was even higher above the river itself. She hummed slightly as she looked at it, tapping her hand against her side curiously. This was usually a sign that she was getting somewhere, but where exactly she couldn't say. "What do you think, Snowdrop?" She asked casually, getting a loud meow in return. It echoed off the wall and back to them, which encouraged Snowdrop to meow again, listening to the echoes. Soon, Snowdrop was meowing nonstop, clearly enjoying the new trick she had figured out to make cool noises happen.

Fiera regretted this... a little bit. Not only was it annoying, she had the feeling it would scare off any smaller creatures she might be able to tame, and maybe even attract larger ones looking for a bite to eat. Either way, not a great deal. The humanish tightened her grip on her pickaxe... just in case. Still, at least this meant that Snowdrop was being pleasant and enjoying herself, so she could put up with it for now. As she walked however, the torch she was using as a walking stick began stretching its light out further and further, until Fiera could see the cave surrounding the river open up ahead of her, to the point where the light didn't even reach the ceiling. Fiera raised an eyebrow- that was unusual down here. Most of the larger caves she had found had already been pretty well picked over by other miners.

And yet, despite being close to the main thoroughfare, this route was pretty clean. There was no signs of miners carving out other tunnels, no rubble on the floor, and no bits of garbage or empty bottles around. People weren't the best about cleaning up down here sometimes, but there were no signs that people had ever been down here at all. But then... why was Fiera the first, if this tunnel was so easily accessable? Fiera shivered at the thought. Perhaps the river was normally much higher than this, and the strip of land she was walking on was normally much less accessible. That was the most pleasant option... and made the most sense, considering that they were currently right smack in the middle of the hottest, driest parts of summer. That meant that a sudden rainstorm would be her worst nightmare, though- either trapping her or sweeping her away.

She cringed at the thought of it, but still couldn't bring herself to turn around. There was no sign of danger quite yet after all, and there were probably alternate explanations... though she stopped herself from trying to imagine them, not wanting to catastrophize more than she already had. Besides, she had reached what she could call the end of that particular tunnel and oh man, was the place she had found impressive. The river she had been walking alongside was spilling out from a massive underground pool, the water getting sucked away from its pristine surface after bubbling up from some unknown source underneath. But that pool wasn't the only one- all around Fiera were massive pits in the ground, each of them filled with clean, clear water. Some of them had little streams flowing into each other, and some were so still that Fiera might be able to see herself in them if she peered over the top.

Fiera looked in awe as she passed by each pool. The water was so clear she could see dozens of feet down. It was undisturbed except for the swimming of thousands of tiny little... well, she couldn't really tell. Little wriggly things that lived in water. Crustaceans, maybe? They were really too small to tell. In most bodies of water, you wouldn't notice these creatures until you scooped out a cup of water and waited until the bits of dust and plant matter had settled out so you could see the little creatures that lived within, flying weightless in their aquatic home. There was no pond scum in these bodies however, and the little creatures that lived within were a pale while, making them reflect the light from Fiera's torch. "...Wow." She muttered to herself, watching the pond sparkle with their multitude of little bodies, all spiralling around each other.

She made her way around the edge of the cavern. She could feel a slight breeze from somewhere, but she couldn't see any other entrances into this part of the cave. These pools were beautiful- maybe that was why no one had bothered mining in here yet? She would certainly find it a shame if anyone were to destroy this natural beauty for the sake of a few gemstones. Granted, it crossed her mind, but she was sure she'd never forgive herself for putting even a single ripple in one of these pools. Snowdrop was equally taken with the environment, her ears pricked and her eyes wide with awe, twitching slightly as she took in the surroundings at the same time as Fiera, staring at wherever the humanish's headlamp pointed. Fiera picked up the pace, though she wasn't sure for what reason- she had plenty of time, right? But it was almost as if...

...Something was pulling her in. She tried not to think about it too hard, but Fiera found herself walking up the slope around the rim of the various ponds, as if pulled in by something unseen. That perception of breeze increased too, but she soon realized that there was no breeze. She could stand perfectly still, but her clothes and hair didn't so much as flutter. It was just an illusion against her skin. Feira turned her hands, feeling the breeze collide with and part around her fingers, but still her shirt remained still. That would be odd... if it didn't tell her exactly what was going on. "There's an elemental crystal around here, isn't there." She said with a sigh, glancing up and looking around. The sensations they caused were odd but helpful in determining their location. Sure enough, she saw a faint yellow glow in the distance, likely sitting between two of the ponds.

As she approached it, she realized that she was coming to the center of the room, approaching the spot that was right between the very largest ponds that this cavern had to offer. And there it was that she saw the real reason no one came down here. It reminded her of the nest she and Snowdrop had disturbed earlier- made of various soft materials that could be found in the mines, but with a huge variety of colorful stones placed like cabochons around the outer edge to impress potential mates. The only difference between them was that this one appeared to have been used- little bones and carapaces of cave dwelling creatures were scattered around it, and there were depressions in the moss where some unknown creature had been laying down within it. And the other difference was that it was five times the size of the one they had found earlier.

Fiera blanched at the thought of the massive creature that would be defending this nest. She glanced around- she couldn't see or hear anything... for now. She couldn't guarantee how long the owner would be away, so she acted fast. Fiera snatched the wind crystal from its place at the front of the nest before she could think about it for too long and talk herself out of it. And then she booked it back towards the front of the cave, looking to get out of the whole mine before the owner of the nest returned. If it was something that could track her by scent, she would be doomed. Snowdrop seemed to agree with her, hissing loudly as she approached the nest and all the way back. She was constantly glancing over her shoulder as she went back to her mine cart, but thankfully nothing leapt out of her and they were able to leave unharmed... this time.

Well, this was something new but not entirely unfamiliar to Fiera. When the humanish had ordered an atomic lamadidron from Orochi's little hunting business, it was out of a sense of collection. She had plenty of other lamadidron already, she knew how to handle them, and she wanted one of the rarer ones to further complete the set. Or at least... she thought she knew how to handle them. As of yet, Flicker had been... odd. She didn't eat the same variety of stones and ores that the others did, instead being drawn towards fruits and vegetables like... well, like a normal herbivore her side. Bananas were an especially desired treat, which meant that Fiera suddenly had to stock up on her orders to keep her fed and maintained. Of course, her diet wasn't the only unusual part of her- she acted quite different from her other heavily armored peers as well. Fiera 11 Flicker 0.1/0.1 1

Instead of being blunt and unaffected by things, Flicker had a sense of flightiness about her that was better suited to a galabex than a reptile of her size and stamina. She could easily tank any damage, and yet she acted as if the slightest touch would shatter her, skittering away from anything that moved suddenly. Fiera supposed she should be more grateful for this- after all, atomic lamadidron had strange chemicals in their armored plates that ate away at living things. Fiera avoided touching her without heavy gloves for that reason, but it still meant that Flicker was far more likely to hurt the things around her than be hurt by them herself. And yet... she still had a sense of childlike fascination with the world. Fiera had watched her creep up to something she hadn't seen before, peer at it warily, lean in to sniff it, before darting away in terror.

Needless to say, Fiera wasn't expecting this mining session to go great. Flicker would be simultaneously curious about and terrified by everything here, but Fiera was hoping that after a certain point she would get used to the sheer number of rocks around here and would calm down a bit. Hopefully. It would have to be a relatively short session, however. Lacking any better options, Fiera had fastened a chain leash around Flicker's neck, and already she could see it starting to discolor in the flickering lights of the mine. If she left it for too long it might snap entirely, and with Flicker being so untrained... well, that could lead to disaster. Fiera had brought a spare just in case, but she'd rather not try her luck in case her new pet decided to make a break for it... which could end up with a broken leg or getting lost.
