The public park was finally starting to cool off, and Fiera was glad for it. After all, her new pet certainly appreciated the cold, and she needed to get him in top fighting shape for the upcoming tournament. The longer Fiera could keep Donner out for, the better. Donner was, of course, her new snowstalker seeker, and he was… well. Fiera had to have him delivered to a training pet in the public park as opposed to walking him here, and that said quite a bit about his personality, that was for sure. Like most seekers, he had proven to be a vicious creature, and without that amulet of submission she had tied around his neck, she doubted he would obey her at all. Still, she needed to get started on his training, or else he would never learn. “Okay Donner… let’s start with your name, eh?” She said, clapping her hands. Fiera 1 Donner 0.1/0.1 Name 1

The seeker only snarled in return, pacing at the far end of the pen, tied with a chain to the far post of the pen. Around his snout was a mesh muzzle. He could drink water or eat very small scraps of meat (which Fiera had plenty of in a nearby cooler to use as treats during training), but it would be very difficult for Fiera to get her fingers in there so he could take them off with his very sharp teeth. She felt bad having him restrained so heavily, but she wouldn’t have to if he played nice. “Donner!” She called sharply, holding up a piece of meat. At first the seeker couldn’t seem to care less, but soon his eyes slid over to the meat, and he couldn’t help but turn to look at Fiera. “That’s it! Good boy, Donner!” Fiera said happily before tossing it to him.

The snowstalker was on it in an instant, jamming the mesh muzzle against the ground until he could maneuver the scrap of flesh into his mouth. It was gone before Fiera could even blink, and once again she was very glad for the barriers between her and him. “Okay, let’s try that again…” She said quietly to herself before getting out another chunk of meat. “Donner!” She called before holding the meat up again. This time her seeker’s reaction was even quicker, and his head snapped to attention to look at her. She smirked and tossed it to him again. Despite his aggression, it looked like Donner was going to be a fast learner… provided that she could get him to stop being aggressive for a few minutes. Still, as long as she had meat for him to snack on it looked like he would be at least a little cooperative with her.

From there, Donner watched as Fiera picked up another scrap of meat… and then hid it behind her back. He lost interest when she did that- clearly if it wasn’t immediately for him, it wasn’t worth paying attention to. Still, Fiera had to try. “Donner!” She called. “Donner, over here!” She could have sworn she saw the seeker’s eyes glance over at her, but it was hard to tell. Regardless, it looked like he wasn’t going to obey this time without a bribe. Fiera sighed, and held the meat up again. “Donner!” She tried one more time, and sure enough the snowtracker seeker looked up at Fiera with an expression the humanish could only describe as “smug”. He seemed to know the command by now- he just didn’t want to obey without getting paid for it. Perhaps then… she could trick him? Or at least get him to obey without knowing if she was holding a treat.

With that in mind, Fiera held off on talking to him for a bit. She looked around and scuffed her feet along the ground, not paying him any mind. Donner stayed watchful for a moment, looking for any sign of weakness, but when Fiera didn’t come any closer to him either, he slowly lost interest in Fiera’s actions. He yawned and began pacing around, investigating his surroundings like Fiera was. That was just what the humanish wanted though, and as he looked away she finally spun around and said the seeker’s name eagerly. “Donner!” She called, hoping it would work. To her delight, he immediately glanced over his shoulder at her- even though she had no treat in hand. He hissed quietly at the sight of that and went back to his pacing, clearly miffed at being deceived… but unfortunately for him, now neither of them could hide the fact that he did know what she was saying and what he was supposed to do in turn. For that word at least.

Fiera let her seeker sit for a little bit after that. She had proven that he could indeed learn tricks (with the assistance of that amulet of submission at least), and she wanted him to get a bit more comfortable with his environment before she leapt right into the next one. He had only barely gotten time to examine his surroundings before she got started after all- the snowtracker seeker probably had no idea where he actually was, let alone who this strange woman was. Fiera had just bought him from The Hunter’s Lodge, and considering that that wasn’t a “from the labs” source, he was probably quite confused about being dragged out from wherever they got him from. For all she knew, Fiera was his first owner… or perhaps one of a long string. Still, she fully intended for her kennel to be his “forever home”, whether he liked it or not.

Hopefully this training session could be a bit of a “get to know you” sort of thing, however. While Donner got a bit more comfortable, Fiera looked out over the public park. She and Donner were set up in one of the fenced off areas for people to train in. The planks were close enough together that there was no chance of Donner being able to shove himself through them (and thank goodness for that, because he looked like he would be happy to go maul a small child if she wasn’t keeping an eye on him) and while they were tall enough for the humanish to peer over, she had the feeling there was little chance of him jumping over either. Various tools for training were scattered around the field for public use, though most of them were stacked neatly in one corner. Fiera didn’t think she’d need them- for now at least.

Meanwhile, Donner was tied up with one of Fiera’s personal leashes, a heavy duty one that he wouldn’t be able to gnaw through. He was attached to a harness as opposed to the traditional leash- he was violent enough that he would likely choke himself on anything simpler. Fiera was amazed, on some level, of the ferocity of seekers. She had heard of it before, but this was her first time witnessing one in full. For a while she wondered how they could possibly survive in the wild as violent as they were, even towards members of their own kin. But then she remembered that, of course, Seekers WEREN’T wild. They were, as much as everything else in this city, artificially created. If they were released into the wild, some would think they would become the top dogs of the world, and yet… based on how willing they were to rip each OTHER apart, Fiera kind of doubted that.

Still, in terms of their fighting prowess, seekers had little competition, which was great for Fiera in the upcoming tournament… though their sociability could use some work. Their jaw strength alone was enough to win fights, let alone any elemental powers they may have picked up along the way. Fiera knew that chances are her opponents would be well armored however, so she was quietly hoping that she could train him to use more than just his teeth in a fight to try and hit more weak points. After all, he had claws too and snowstalker seekers were unique in that they had sharp, raking horns that could be used in a fight. Fiera figured it might also be worth her while to buy him an injection as well, though she couldn’t decide which one she wanted just yet. She’d have to wait and see what he tended toward in a fight.

That way she could figure out what her OWN pet’s weakness was and strategize around it. Donner’s personality likely couldn’t be changed much, but Fiera could change her own mind and train him accordingly. And if she kept up the good work then maybe, just maybe, this upcoming tournament would turn out in a victory for her and her pet. Or at the very least, a less severe loss than her last one. Donner was young and fit- she thought her chances were good. But it would take a lot of work to get him into a state where she would feel good about entering him. After all, as of right now the only thing he knew was his own name, and it would take quite a bit of work to change that. With that in mind though, Fiera cracked her knuckles and stood back up from the fence she was leaned up against.

It was time to get back to work. Fiera had let Donner have a bit of a break after that first trick, to let him get used to the area he was sitting in before she launched right back into training him. Teaching him his name, well… she definitely wanted to establish an “I’m in charge and don’t forget it.” sort of relationship with her pet. With other kinds of animals she knew that was inappropriate, but with a seeker? She could imagine things going pretty bad if he didn’t think she was in charge. Now that he had had some time to calm down however, he seemed… well, not “chill”, but he was lying down now at the very least, breathing softly and only shooting Fiera an ill-meaning glance every so often instead of all the time now. Fiera could deal with that, she figured. Now that he was feeling better however, she could move into his next trick.

Or, if not a trick, his next… phase of acceptance of Fiera’s power over him. Specifically, she wanted to teach him ‘tolerance’, for him to let her touch him without trying to rip her limbs off. As of right now, he probably would do that, and with great pleasure. But if they were going to get anywhere with his training, he needed to learn how to let her touch him so she could manipulate parts of his body for tricks, or even just so he could receive medical attention in the tournament ring. She couldn’t imagine that the arena workers would be happy at trying to restrain an already injured seeker just so they could get to the damaged area. Still, with how snappy he was this was likely going to take a lot of effort on her part. With him already calmed down though… maybe not as much as she was worried about.

She would need a LOT of food to get this to work, though. Fiera didn’t even bother getting a few meat chunks out to start with from the cooler- she just dragged the whole thing over to Donner. The furred seeker looked up as the humanish approached, growling softly. “It’s ok, Donner.” She said quietly, trying her best to sound as calming as possible. He didn’t put his head back down though and instead kept his gaze firmly on the humanish. Fiera sighed and shrugged- cities weren’t built in a day. At the very least however, he seemed INTERESTED when Fiera opened the cooler, revealing the chunks of meat inside. It was still just outside of the leash’s range though, so there was no chance of him stealing it from her when she wasn’t looking. Or when she was. He had no reason to respect the command “don’t eat that”, after all.

As she reached her hand out to touch Donner, she was suddenly grateful for the rubber booties she had strapped to his feet as the seeker sharply swatted her hand away, unable to bite her. She hissed quietly, snapping her hand back. He couldn’t cut her open, but a blow like that still stung. Still, Fiera couldn’t afford to show weakness. That reaction wouldn’t happen twice. She reached out again and the seeker smacked at her once more, but this time she bit her lip and forced her way through the pain, eventually touching down on Donner’s shoulder. The seeker hissed and thrashed at her hand, but refused to move away from her. It became increasingly clear to him however that no matter how much he struggled, she wasn’t going to stop touching him. And he was struggling a LOT, even smacking Fiera with her tail (though that didn’t really hurt thanks to the thick layer of fur surrounding it).

Eventually Donner seemed to calm down, or at least wear himself out. The slapping and hitting slowed until finally coming to a stop, though he didn’t stop hissing at the humanish the whole time. Fiera sighed with relief. “Finally. Good boy, Donner!” She said, nabbing a chunk of meat out of the cooler to reward his good behavior. She left it on the ground in front of him and in a flash the seeker lunged forward to shove it through the bars of his muzzle, snapping it up in an instant. Fiera did her best not to flinch, but soon the meat was gone and she knew she’d have to try again. “Okay… let’s try this again, Donner!” She said, trying her hardest to sound enthusiastic about touching this hellbeast again. This time though, she went in with both hands, intending to run her hands through the fur on his back.
