Fiera didn’t run too fast after the harachiu, of course. They were squirrely and agile yes, but Fiera’s legs were a lot longer than theirs. They couldn’t fly either, so they were obligated to run along the ground as well instead of taking to the sky like other members of their species. As a result, it was difficult for them to keep ahead of her as the humanish was naturally faster than them… unless she cheated, of course. “Oh! Oh you’re so fast!” Fiera laughed while walking at no more than a brisk pace. Both of the harachiu squealed with delight though, scrambling up the hillsides with their new companions. Fiera chuckled as they ran, watching them pant happily and flutter their wings. At the very least she knew they’d eat their lunch later, with how much exercise they were getting. All she had to do was gently powerwalk. The walking stick she had found was definitely helping, though she was starting to doubt whether it was a walking stick at all. It was certainly made of strong, plain looking wood, but its accessories were… a little unusual. The vines creeping up it almost seemed to move at times, and they didn’t seem liable to fall off.

Most plants growing on sticks definitely would though, so Fiera was left wondering if it was really a normal stick at all, or something more… magical. Well, she’d still take it- the more magic things she could get, the merrier. Though admittedly, she had no clue as to what a thing would be for or what she could do with it. As she walked though, the pets around her started getting a little more daring, arcing back and sneaking right in front of her, pushing their luck on not getting tagged. They were playing a dangerous game, and Fiera was newly determined to show them why that wasn’t a good idea. After a few moments the jackalope doubled back, and quick as a snake Fiera’s hand reached out and touched it on the back, just barely skimming the surface of the fur. It skidded to a stop a few feet away as if stunned. For a brief, guilt filled moment Fiera wondered if she had managed to hurt it despite just barely brushing its fur. Then it leapt up again, newly invigorated by the clever move and bounced away in the direction of the hummingbird and young fairies, sending them laughing and scattering in all directions.

To the relief of Fiera’s lungs, the little critters didn’t seem too focused on doubling back to tag her, despite being an easy target. Instead they kept chasing each other while Fiera acted as lookout, scanning the surroundings for anything interesting. And she did find a few interesting things, in fact. Hidden behind a bushel of tulips, Fiera found another paper lantern and a small wooden toy. She smiled slightly as she turned it over in her hands. It was shaped VAGUELY like a felusine, but really it could have been anything. Memories of her own childhood surfaced fuzzily, gasping at the surface of her mind before sinking back down into the waves of ‘better left forgotten’. Still, she put the little pull along toy into her bag as a souvenir. She was sure that she could get something somewhere for it, even if she just traded it in at curious collections for something bigger and better. If she didn’t have a use for it, she was sure she could find someone who did. In addition to that, she found another one of those paper lanterns, glowing among the leaves of the tulips. These were definitely the ‘collectible’ items this month.

Especially considering how many she had found so far. Still, she had nearly missed this one. Unlike some of the others she had found already, this one glowed green, making it blend right in with the grass and leaves. In addition, the object’s light couldn’t exactly reach very far in broad daylight like this. Frankly, it was a small miracle that Fiera had noticed it at all. Still, she’d take it, and she put it away in her bag with the other paper lanterns after folding it up. With that out of the way, she looked around wondering where to go now. In one direction, there was the mansion, eternally visible no matter how far out they went into the fields. That was good- it meant that it was impossible to get lost in here, despite how oddly space and time acted on the mansion’s property. Directly in front of Fiera was more field, but off to her right she could see a glimmering- perhaps water of some sort? That would make sense- there was usually some sort of water fixture in the mansion during all months, even if it was dried up. It could be worth checking out, she noted.

In the other direction there was a copse of trees, though she really couldn’t call it a forest. It was more of a child’s idea of what a forest was, based on what she could see from here. The leaves on the trees were just a little too bright, and sometimes the trees would be colored bizarre colors. Trunks that were a little too red and leaves that were near purple, or yellow and orange, or pink and blue. If that wasn’t strange enough, it didn’t look like there was any underbrush at all. No bushes or even fallen leaves, as it looked like the space between the trees was covered in an unbroken plane of grass. There were no patches of dirt and even though the grass didn’t get nearly as much sunlight as the rest of the field, it was still just as lush and healthy as everywhere else. Finally, the trees were spaced just… a little TOO far apart for Fiera’s comfort. It was a forest yes, but an uncomfortably fake and artificial version of it. A child would never notice or mind, but the uncanniness of it warned Feira away. Still, her wards seemed to be making their way toward.

Which meant that she’d have to make a decision soon. Herd her charges away from the woods, or plunge right into it? The humanish mulled over the answer, and just when she was about to call the harachiu away from the storybook style woods, she heard a jingling coming from her foot. She looked down, confused, to find a windchime that she had tripped over wrapped halfway around her foot. Next to it was another paper lantern, and… was that? She leaned down to look, and indeed it was. It was a pale crystal, greyish in color but with a bright white light glowing from within, refracting out through the facets of its exterior. She had found a couple of these crystals in the past, though she was usually guided to them by an energetic, thrumming sensation first. This one barely gave off more than a gentle hum, though she was sure it was still highly magical. Remnant crytals were incredibly rare, but a valuable find for her. She eagerly scooped it up, ready to add it to her collection. What a fantastic find! She scooped all of the items she had stumbled upon into her bag, eager to keep going.

She supposed that made the decision for her on what to do next, then. Every time Fiera had found a remnant crystal in the past, it was when she wasn’t sure about what to do next. Inevitably, they gave an indicator on where to go or what to do, no matter how unsure she was. This one had been pointing in the direction of the forest when she had found it… so she supposed that that was where they’d go. She looked up from her backpack, trying to locate Yoru and Echo. She could see them about twenty five feet away, lying on their backs on a hill. As she approached, she found the jackalop and humming bird lying next to them. She supposed that they had finally worn themselves out, their game paused at least for the time being. Fiera glanced down at her bag and opened it again, offering the interior to the two pocket pets. As if relieved to have a nice, quiet place to nap, the pair of them hopped and fluttered into the awaiting pocket, allowing Fiera to zip it up behind them. She made a mental note not to jostle the bag too much.

Fiera didn’t want to injure the harachius’ new friends, after all. After that she sat with the pair of them for a little while, letting them catch their breath. A thought struck her suddenly, and Fiera dug through her bag again, looking for a specific object. Ah, there it was! She pulled out a water bottle with a bit of flair, and quickly cracked it open. The harachiu looked at her with only a little bit of confusion- it was a bit large for them to drink out of. But instead Fiera poured a bit of water into the bottle’s cap, using it as a fairy sized cup for them. Yoru grabbed it first, pushing Echo out of the way to do so, gulping down the water. “Hey.” Fiera said in a critical tone of voice, and Yoru recoiled, a bit chagrined. He offered the cap and the rest of the water in it to Yoru, who accepted it gratefully. When the water ran out, Fiera gave them a quick refill from her bottle, and the pair would pass it back and forth between them. Eventually Yoru declined another sip, and Echo seemed disinclined to have more to drink as well.

With that out of the way, Fiera took a few gulps of her own before replacing the cap on the bottle and putting the bottle back in her bag. Now that they were rehydrated though, the harachiu seemed to have their energy back. The humanish checked her phone, but it was still pretty early in the day- not quite time for lunch yet. With that in mind, she figured that they still had time to go and explore the copse of trees in the distance. She hefted her backpack back onto her shoulders and the harachiu stood up as well, realizing that it was time to go. “Come along then, dears!” She said, a chipper tone in her voice and some pep in her step. The harachiu followed along obediently, walking along behind her in her footsteps. They seemed a lot less nervous around Fiera, now that she thought of it. When they had first arrived at the eccentric’s mansion, they didn’t know her at all. She was still a stranger of course, and they likely weren’t entirely comfortable around her still, but she seemed to have convinced them that she was here to help them have fun, not kidnap them.

As a result they seemed a lot more relaxed now. Yoru frequently engaged Echo in little games involving hand symbols (though the rules were completely beyond Fiera), which frequently devolved into miniature slap fights. Fiera usually only had to make a disapproving noise though, and they’d stop. At least these two were easy to manage. Perhaps not as eager to please as many of the pets she had trained before, but happy to follow along with whatever Fiera had planned. She hoped that that would remain the case when she entered the woods. Despite the lack of underbrush, it would be a lot easier for them to get lost in there, and they would both have to listen to her more and Fiera would have to keep a closer eye on them. The woods were drawing closer and closer, and the more details Fiera could see in it, the more she realized it was unlike any other forest she had ever been in. The trees were all the same type of tree, with identical looking leaves, despite the technicolor arrangement of trunk and leaf sizes. The trees weren’t arranged in even rows, but did seem to be identical distances from each other, leaving plenty of space for Fiera to walk through.

Additionally, there was something… odd about the texture of the trees’ bark. As she reached the edge of the floral plains, she placed her hand on one of the trees, noting how it felt under her fingertips. It felt almost… artificial? It felt like wood, but like the kind of wood that was glued onto a cheap decoration at a dollar store. As she drew her hand away, it was completely clean, with no tiny chips of bark or dirt attached. Bizarre… but not dangerous. She shrugged- she was sure that she could deal with it. Still, she glanced behind her to make sure Echo and Yoru were ok with it too. As far as she could tell, they didn’t even notice the oddities. Instead they trailed behind Fiera, playing a game that she could only describe as “who can make the highest pitched, most annoying noise”. Well, at least they were having fun. Even Echo was giggling up a storm back there, despite her usual shy demeanor. Still, it made Fiera think. Had they ever been in a forest before? It seemed to be a environment that you’d expect to find harachiu in (especially with the fairy tale appearance of this one).

And yet based on the pair’s reaction to this whole place, it didn’t seem to be something they had any familiarity to. What a shame. Fiera shrugged and made to move on, keeping a close eye on her surroundings as she did so. The light filtering through the leaves made evenly sized dapples on the perfectly green grass beneath her feet. The ground was flat and even, and the roots jutting out from the trees didn’t go very far at all, reducing any chance of a tripping hazard. Overall the place was just a facsimile of a forest, a playground for young creatures that had never seen real trees before. Fiera supposed that it was fine, but… perhaps a little boring. Still, at least the harachiu seemed to be having fun, squeaking with laughter and running around in circles between the trees. Even if they were out of sight, Fiera was sure that she could still find them again, what with how loud they were. She couldn’t see the other end of this copse of trees like this- perhaps these woods were larger than she thought! She was sure she’d be able to find her way out again, considering the nature of the mansion.

After a few minutes, Fiera was pretty sure she had seen all she needed to see, and was already looking for a way out… until she felt another tug on her pant leg. She looked down to see Echo this time, unusually enough. “What’s up, buttercup?” Fiera said in a friendly tone. “...Ah…” Echo said, not knowing the words to articulate herself, but she held up a finger and ran over to a nearby tree. Fiera ambled over to her, and found the harachiu pointing up the tree insistently. She looked back and forth between her owner and the branches, trying desperately to convey her thoughts. Fiera peered up the tree… and noticed some lights in the branches. The tree itself was bright yellow with purple leaves, and the lights themselves were green. As a result, Fiera had the feeling that it wasn’t just the sunlight filtering through the leaves that Echo was pointing at. “...Huh. That is weird. Good catch, Echo!” She said, and started to walk away. “Ah!” Echo exclaimed again, and ran over Fiera to tug at her pants again. “What?” Fiera exclaimed, trying to not step on the little fairy, trying to get a better look at her.
