It was all downhill from here too, quite literally. Walking up through the forest had had a bit of an incline, but now she and Andante were going gently down again, as if the front gate was at the bottom of a very gentle hill. Fiera was hardly complaining- it made this trip back a lot easier on her. As the sun sunk in the sky, Fiera realized that the flowers were slowly changing color too, shifting from warmer tones to cooler ones as the day dragged on. She wondered if they made a full cycle over the course of the night, complete with different shapes, but she wasn’t about to stick around to find out. The mansion was giving her the heebie jeebies even worse than in October, which was arguably the spookiest of the months. Something about the bright colors and strange mist was unsettling to the humanish…

And it wasn’t helping her growing headache, either. Still, even with the difficulties of the environment, the equillion she was looking after seemed to have enjoyed himself quite well. Fiera thought that equillion were supposed to be skittish creatures, especially the airy and beautiful pure breed… and yet he hadn’t seemed perturbed by a single thing he had seen here. Fiera supposed that that was a good thing, having a mount that wasn’t spooked by anything in its path. He would make a fantastic riding pet for Aster, or anyone else who was lucky enough to own him in the future. It was up to her to train him properly though, as she had been asked (and was being paid) to do. He had the right attitude for being a war mount, but didn’t have the skills to back it up quite yet. At least this trip was a good start.

Even though it hadn’t been too interesting, Fiera did feel a little closer to Andante now. Perhaps it was just because she was able to read his body language a bit better now, or maybe it was just the vapors surrounding them that were calming her down. Regardless, the pair seemed more comfortable with each other now, which would be a massive boon in the training ahead. Fiera looked ahead of them- they were almost to the gate. They had only been here for about three fourths of an hour, but it felt like far longer. She wouldn’t be surprised to learn that the mansion had some sort of time dilating effect- that certainly seemed like something it would do. Or perhaps it was just the quality company- time flies when you’re having fun, after all. Or… doesn’t fly? Fiera couldn’t really remember how that one went.

Finally, she was in front of the gate. She turned to Andante- the equillion was busy chewing on some grass, clearly happy to have gotten out of the blossoms made of light so he could have some real food. Fiera’s lip quirked up. “You about ready to go, then?” She said. The equillion merely flicked his ears in response, as if he didn’t mind one way or the other. Fiera snorted happily, and pushed open the gate. It creaked loudly, as if asking her not to go. She cast one last glance back at the mansion, its swirling heights into the clouds above and the odd colors of the sky. “Yeah, no.” Fiera said grimly. “Maybe some other time, Mansion- I think I’m about done for now.” She finished, and strode through the gate, equillion in tow. It was a short trip to be sure, but Fiera felt like it was quite successful.

Another month, another trip to the mansion. Fiera was cutting it a little close this month, but it was still worth going, even if she didn't find much. Especially considering her end goal- to spend a bit more time with Orpheus. She had already had a couple of training sessions with the alurook chick in the past. He knew some basics and even a tiny fighting move just for fun, but nothing substantial. Really, it was just enough to keep him from acting out in public. She couldn't exactly call the two of them close yet, but she was hoping that spending some time together would help with that. The chick was still small and fluffy and easy to maneuver with, but Fiera knew he wouldn't always be like that. It was best to bond with him now so he wouldn't prove to be a pest- or even worse than that- later.

As she entered through the front gate though, she couldn't help but notice how much prettier the mansion looked than usual. Tall, lush trees arched over her head, even though they hadn't been visible from outside of the gate due to whatever useless magic kept this place chugging. Still, the trees were gorgeous. Deep brown, almost black trunks, with leaves so green they were bordering on blue. Fiera couldn't see the sun through them, and in fact the air around them was quite dark and still. It looked as if it was night time, and while it should have been ominous... Fiera didn't actually feel threatened. In fact, she felt welcomed, as if the cool air was welcoming and calming her. At the very least it was a good environment for Orpheus, who had such large, light detecting eyes anyway. This was hardly even an obstacle for the alurook chick.

As she walked, the forest got even prettier. Little lights floated between the trees- fireflies, if she had to guess. Or perhaps just little magical motes of light. After all, Fiera had never seen fireflies that cast blue and purple lights, that was for sure. Still, she could appreciate how pretty they were as she kept walking down the winding path toward the mansion. The walk was nice and quiet, with the only occasional chirp of an unseen cricket to distract the pair of them. Orpheus seemed plenty entertained by it, turning his head toward each sound, his head twisting nearly one hundred and eighty degrees to find the source of the chirping. Fiera was grateful for it- it kept him from trying to catch her flicking ears with his very sharp beak. He settled into her arms, his youthful curiosity sated for the time being by the sounds of invisible insects.

Fiera knew it wouldn't last forever though, of course. After all, she could juuuuust about see the front lights of the mansion through the trees ahead. After that, they would be in a different room and Orpheus would have a whole new set of stimuli to react to. She supposed that was a good thing though- it was good to get him used to as many things as possible before he was old enough to simply destroy things that he found new and confusing. She was of the firm opinion that she was creating a good, well-rounded alurook (in a rather literal sense right now, considering his baby fluff). Of course, many people might debate her, but she was hardly the one to listen to the opinions of strangers. Who would know more about raising her pets than her? Still, Orpheus didn't seem distressed, so she doubted that she could be doing TOO poorly a job at raising him.

As expected however, the mansion slowly came into view before them. It looked nice this month, which was a surprise. Fiera was well used to the mansion being some level of decrepit or rotten. She figured that even it knew on some level that nobody really lived here anymore- they only came to visit. The summer months and October were usually the worst. But today? Today it looked like the mansion decided to clean itself up, standing tall and pristine above her, looking like. Well, an actual mansion. A warm, inviting glow emanated from the windows, inviting her in. "Don't mind if I do." The humanish said under her breath, starting up the front steps. For once it was nice to see a side of the mansion that wasn't actually trying to kill you, intentionally or not. She grasped the front door, elegantly carved and polished, and pulled to see what it had in store.

She immediately stumbled across a series of objects, and stubbed her toe on one of them to add insult to injury. She resisted the urge to let out a string of expletives, if just to protect Orpheus's young, vulnerable ears. She looked down at them. A stone tablet- yeah, that's probably what she stubbed her toe on. Whoever left that laying around, well, she'd have something to say to them. A necklace with a green fang on it... now that was interesting. Pretty, too. She probably had some nice outfits she could wear with it. And... a strange little creature. It was made of stone, but it moved. Fiera smiled- she'd take good care of it, she decided. She had gotten a lot of these lil critters from the mansion over the months, and had quite a little menagerie of them at home. She was sure this one would fit right in.

Once she finally had all of the critters in her bag, Fiera was finally able to get a proper look at her surroundings. And man, were they... odd. Were it not for the door behind her and the wallpaper leading out into the distance, Fiera wouldn't know that she was inside at all. Instead, it looked more like she had gone down to the mines instead of The Eccentric's Mansion. Or at least, one of the nicer parts of the mines. The stone floor dipped and rose, and stalactites rose elegantly to the sky. And what a sky it was- instead of a regular ceiling, it just faded up into a deep blue fog, which Fiera could have sworn she saw stars twinkling inside. Streaks of purple undulated through it, as if a nebula was dancing above her head. She and Orpheus couldn't help but stare at it, gobsmacked by the beauty.

In front of them were pools of near black water, deep and glittering in the basins between stalactites. Fiera made a mental note to not fall into them- she wasn't entirely sure she would come back out, no matter how pretty they were. There was no way of telling how deep they were, after all. Orpheus cheeped loudly as she took a few hesitant steps forward, clearly enjoying the cool air and the fact that his voice answered him back, echoing through the 'caves'. Despite that though, there were walls bounding the space behind her, stretching out into the distance. So this was clearly the interior of the mansion, no matter how strange it was to look at. Satisfied, Fiera set Orpheus down gently. The alurook took a few wobbly steps forward before looking back at her and letting out a screech. Fiera was pretty sure it was a good screech, though.

Not that she could really tell- all of Orpheus's noises were roughly the same. His level of anger was best determined by whether or not he was actively trying to claw all of her skin off. Still, he seemed pretty happy to be here, and immediately began trotting through the cave. He was usually a grumpy little scrap of fluff, but this pretty place seemed to placate him, to Fiera's delight. Alurook were normally daytime creatures, but this must have been a delight for his sense of hearing. Fiera was happy to follow along and let her pet set the pace. Orpheus couldn't fly (yet), and his footsteps were pretty awkward still. Needless to stay, he wasn't getting away from her any time soon, and she could afford to toddle along behind him and let him explore. The mansion this month seemed pleasant enough- she might as well enjoy it while she had the time.
