Amber was quickly surprised to find that the nebuli just.., let her touch it. The other pocket pets crowded around her as well, curious about this new creature in their midst. “Don’t think they see many of your sort around here, Amber.” Fiera piped up. The harachiu simply gave a quick, disinterested “I guess so.” As she patted the foggy beast, clearly lost in thought at the sight of it. Fiera didn’t think she had ever seen someone so entranced. She didn’t seem awed though, more... interested. Calculating. “If we were to lead this creature outside of the mansion... would it continue to exist? It appears very magical, and I know that most of the mansion’s magic fades outside of its grounds.” Fiera smirked. “Is that your way of asking if you can keep it?” She teased, looking at the very pleased beast as it accepted the pets.

Amber gawped at her, outraged at the mere insinuation. “What! Oh come on. I ask for the sake of scientific study. This creature’s anatomy is bizarre. Just imagine what we could learn from it!” She said, gesturing. “Hey, you’re pretty weird too.” Fiera fired back. “How many mammals do you know with bug wings and magic dust?” Amber rolled her eyes. “I am PERFECTLY NORMAL, thank you very much, and this is different! This creature is hardly a pet.” She said, just as the nebuli rolled over for belly rubs. Amber and Fiera looked at it for a moment before Amber sighed, pinching the bridge of her nose. “...Fine then. Can we keep it.” She grumbled into her hand. Fiera tried not to giggle. “Yeah, that’s fine. You realize this means we’ll have to cut the trip short then, right?” She said, hefting herself up off the ground.

Amber sighed, glancing up at the amazing vaulted ceiling. “...That’s fine.” She said after thinking about it for a moment. “We’ll have other opportunities for trips here, and the important part is that we get this guy back for study.” She said, patting the creature in question on the flank. It just sniffed at her happily. “Sounds good to me then! Let’s go.” Fiera said, turning on her heel and waking away. The door was right where they’d left it. Perhaps the mansion wasn’t planning on them leaving so soon. That worked for Fiera though as she pushed open the door back into that pristine field once more. It wasn’t difficult for Amber to use her treats to lure the nebuli across the field and out of the gates, which swung shut cleanly behind them. Sure enough, the nebuli didn’t dissipate- and in fact, it followed them all the way home.

Ah, vai min mur. The month of October was always the most exciting time of year for the Eccentric's Mansion, which seemed to take a particular pleasure in making itself as terrifying as possible for those who dared set foot on its ground. The air outside the mansion was growing crisper by the day, as were the leaves underfoot. The mansion almost looked normal from this side of the gate, if a little run down. The humanish knew that its magic was much stronger inside however, and its appearance would shimmer and warp the second she stepped through. The wrought iron of the gate rattled under her touch. It was heavy, but unlocked. It took a bit of effort to get it to swing open, letting out an immense squeal as she pulled on it. Even as it moved, she could see the metal growing darker and spinier, twisting into threatening shapes. Fiera 6 Arethusa 4.1/4.1 1

"Yeesh, even the gate is a drama queen." She muttered, looking up at the growing spines. Last time she was here during Vai Min Mur, she was accompanied by her rakai sarane, Victor. It had spooked her pretty badly then, but this time she was prepared for it and had an equally intimidating creature by her side to boot- not that Victor was anything to sneeze at. Arethusa was a terrifying excuse for an equillion however, covered in scales where there should be fur and possessing an eerily reptilian snout and a flicking tongue. Even her ears were spiky and cragged. It all came together in an eerily beautiful countenance, her teal blue body being decorated by an ethereal, flicking mane and tail. Recently the equillion had grown into herself some more, and Fiera felt it would be a good occasion to take her out to stretch her legs some.

Plus, it wouldn’t hurt to get Arethusa more comfortable with her. The equillion was much taller than her now, and Fiera wanted to be sure that she was well bonded enough to her such that her venomous fangs would never be pointed in her direction. For the time being however, she didn’t seem too interested in Fiera. Instead, her forked tongue tasted the air in the direction of the mansion, clearly reading that something was off about this place. Fiera looked up. Sure enough, now that the gates were open, the mansion looked a lot spookier than it did before the gate was open. In fact, it looked downright decrepit… good thing Fiera had no plans on going inside. Instead, she much preferred to stay on the mansion grounds, exploring the woods around it and whatnot. This was entirely for Arethusa’s sake, of course. She was… quite big.

She wasn’t even sure that the equillion would fit through the front door of the building anymore, let alone navigate the halls safely. Wherever she and Fiera went next, it would be outdoors on the grounds only… provided that the mansion did not trap her or something like that first. Stepping in through the front gate however, every seemed safe so far. A massive harvest moon hung in the sky, glaring down on them like an eye. A wide, grey dirt path spread out before them, with blackened trees like snarled limbs on either side. It was like they were being herded toward the mansion, forced to approach it due to the boredom of the path and the oppressiveness of the trees. A thin mist swirled around Fiera’s feet and mixed well with Arethusa’s own misty fetlocks, clinging to her heels as she stepped carefully down the road.

The equillion looked surprisingly natural in this environment. Pure equillion were usually beautiful, ethereal creatures, looking too heavenly for some to even consider touching… certainly not what you’d expect to see in the mansion during this month. Arethusa didn’t look a hair out of place however, standing eerie in the moonlight. It glinted off of her seafoam scales that fit together like little pieces of armor. Her tongue flicked in and out of her mouth curiously as her eyes scanned the environment. She didn’t seem scared or nervous in the slightest. If anything, she seemed even calmer than Fiera. “Perhaps you should be the one looking after ME, then.” Fiera said with a chuckle. If Arethusa heard her however, she didn’t show it and instead kept walking inexorably toward the mansion. Fiera huffed, and adjusted her grip on Arethusa’s lead. “Fine, fine then. Lead the way, m’lady.”

“Ih.” Marley said succinctly as Fiera trudged through the knee high snow that blanketed the ground at the mansion this time of year. “Agreed.” Fiera said, squinting through the snowflakes as she approached the front door of the mansion, clutching the baby Harachiu close to her chest. It was plenty cold outside of the gate, with snow already on the ground from the first flurries of the season, but once she got inside it was cranked up to a ridiculous degree. It was silent out as she walked through the drifts, with fat flakes landing on her head even now. She was hoping for a sweet, seasonal day out with one of the newest members of her little flock of Harachiu, but as usual it was looking like her attempt was going to be more trouble than it was worth. Even now, the mansion had a sense of humor that she hardly appreciated. Fiera 11 Marley 0.1/2.1 1

Despite the cold though, she didn’t have to worry about Marley. She had bundled the baby up quite well before leaving the house. Her warmest footie pajamas were put on first before wrapping her up in a burrito made of the thickest pot holder she could find, with another sheet around that to keep it all together. As a result, all one could see of the baby harachiu now was her face, scrunched up and peering out of a small window in an otherwise impenetrable barrier of cloth. If she was feeling particularly energetic she could just about wrestle a few fingers out, but as it stood all she was able to do was move her eyes and head a little bit, peering out at the snowy world around her and Fiera looking imposingly above her head. It wasn’t perhaps the most exciting venture out of the house, but it was something.

Fiera had first found Marley in the summer, bundled up in a tiny flower she had found growing in her garden. She had been elated to find a new member for her little family, but ever since then it had been sleepless nights of researching how to take care of a baby that was smaller than her pinky finger, eye dropping baby formula, and pretty much begging her other Harachiu for assistance. She had taken care of young fairies before- Desiree was a strong example of that. But even she had been a toddler when Fiera adopted her, already walking on her own if not flying. An infant was an entirely different thing, and while Fiera was sure she was doing an okay job at raising her, the tensions were still pretty high internally. It felt like any wrong move could get her injured or worse… which wasn’t entirely inaccurate.

After all, Fiera was Devera magnitudes larger than Marley, an absolute giant by comparison. Even carelessly brushing her hand across a table would be enough to… well.. she preferred not to think about it. Most of the time she kept Marley (and her even fresher baby, Zenith) in their own tiny boxes or bowls to act as cribs or play pens, ensuring that they would stay in one spot where Fiera couldn’t accidentally bump them. This had worked out pretty well for her so far, and now Marley was finally leaving the “can’t even hold her head up on her own” stage and was entering the “making baby babbles, waving her arms around, and trying to stick everything in her mouth” stage. Fiera was doing her best to roll with the punches and decided a nice trip to The Eccentric’s Mansion would be perfect for helping her to make good use of her newfound sense of curiosity.

To her credit, she was actually doing quite well. Even though the weather was miserable, she didn’t seem afraid or nervous at all. She mostly just seemed grumpy, with her face either being stung by the cold or shoved up against Fiera’s shirt, which wasn’t very interesting. The humanish pulled her off anyway once she felt the Harachiu start to chew on the fabric. That probably wasn’t good for her, but it was a sign that she was likely starting to teeth. Another milestone hit. The humanish was hoping she could finish getting through this snow; the sooner she could get indoors, the sooner she could set up camp in a more secure area and let Marley crawl around for a bit, exploring the world around her. It was slow going though, as the snow only seemed to get deeper the closer she got to the door.
