There was another crunch of vegetation that came rustling from beyond the trees; scuttling steps, kicking up fallen foliage and tip-toes clipping many more that littered the ground. Anyone with sharp ears may be able to pick up on another sound, a faint clik, clik, clik; an un-trained person may be confused, but others still would recognize it as the sounds of a Drej, making its way through nature in a way that would make some doubt the creature were truly blind. A flutter of its' vegetative wings and a quick clack of its teeth as it gave each wing a cleaning nip, it was back on track...its eyeless eyes looking on through the vegetation, taking in the strange shapes of a being, and a creature...

Ashe heard the noise but didn't know what it was at first. It sounded so familiar! Shit, what was it? Ashe frowned, deep in thought, mind racing and trying to place that sound. He couldn't remember in time - and it appeared. Through the mist that clung to the bushes and other vegetation, Ashe saw a face. Was it... Wooden? Bone? Rock? It had black pits where the eyes should be. And then the scissor-like stilted legs of a Drej. That's where he knew those sounds from! He had his own Drej back home. Just one, though, and he didn't play with Kadaver as much as he should, so that was why he didn't remember! Mystery solved. It explained the footprints, though it didn't explain the disappearance of the prints. But perhaps they were just hidden under the vegetation. He stood real still, letting the beast come out.
Boomy was sniffing around for more food, something delicious to eat, and he stumbled upon a black bunana. He sniffed at it, snorted, and shook his head, ambling away to find something more appealing.

The Drej inched out, and Ashe felt a slight pressure, like a large creature's gaze settling on you. Which should be impossible, because the Drej had no eyes. Ashe figured it was using some sort of echolocation, and if that was the case, this creature could see better than even Ashe! Human eyes relied on cones and rods and all that crap, and even then they weren't terribly sharp, not when you compared them to many of these creatures. But the echolocation... While it could be fooled, it was harder to do so. At least, that's what Ashe thought. He was no scientist! He waited for the Drej to completely reveal itself in all of its glory before he spoke, soft and gentle. "Hey there, big guy... Wow, look at you..."
Boomy munched on some leaves he found, gazing off toward Ashe while he ate. When the Drej stepped out, suddenly Boomy felt like prey. He felt like this was a big bad predator and it was going to eat him!

Boomy made a strangled panic noise and bolted for the safety of a tree. Ashe and the Drej both snapped their heads in that direction. Ashe immediately realized who it was and what had happened, but the Drej hadn't. It seemed to think it really was a prey animal running away and it gave chase, scrambling in the direction Boomy went. Ashe shouted at the Drej to distract it and darted around in front of it. With a howl, the beast halted, scissor like legs churning up the dirt and plant life. Ashe ignored the damage done in favor of preventing this beast from even trying anything with his dino. Could the Drej hurt Boomy? Would it try, once it saw what made the noise? Ashe didn't know, didn't want to find out. "Whoa, whoa, whoa! Easy there, that's my friend you were just chasing. We can't have that!" Ashe waved his hands, using the movement to keep the Drej focused on him. It was working!

Boomy had found a hiding place and he stayed there, in the dark behind some trees. He didn't hear the monster following him, and he couldn't see the monster, so obviously the monster couldn't see him. That was solid logic, right? He hunkered down... and started to eat some leaves.
The Drej settled down and focused back on Ashe. The human in front of him was the most interesting movement. Ashe kept making small movements; nothing big needed since the Drej didn't care about Boomy anymore. Just something to keep him focusing. "Hey, I have a Drej like you back at home... What do you say, you come join me there? We'd really like to have you." He couldn't tell if the Drej liked the sound of his voice or had any inkling of what he was saying. Blind didn't mean deaf, but the intelligence gap would throw some wrenches in this. "Can I just... I have a rope, I can guide you to safety."

It took some - okay, a lot - of convincing and some fighting, but finally Ashe managed to slip a haphazard harness out of some rope he had, and got the Drej to trust him enough to go with him. Since Ashe didn't have the strength or the ability to deal with the Drej and a scared Boomy, two creatures who would probably fight, Ashe decided to leave his dino in the garden and rush back as soon as he could. He hurried the Drej home, using some meaty treats he also had (which he brought because last time he'd found an estharne and of course they would like meat treats if he found more) to entice him the rest of the way. It didn't take too long for him to get the Drej in the kennel, then he hurried back to the Garden. He looked around, trying to find his dino, but he didn't see Boomy anywhere! Immediately, worst case scenarios started running through his mind.

Ashe heard a rustle in the vegetation, but he wasn't near where he had found the Drej anymore. He was off to the west, and this was even further west. Had Boomy made it clear out here on his own? Or...were there more predators out here that could have gotten him and dragged him in that direction? The thought sent a chill down Ashe's spine. He dealt with death and corpses every day. That didn't mean he wanted one of his prized creatures to go through that! Boomy was so full of potential and irreplaceable. "Boomy?" He called, hoping to get his dino's attention if it was him, or scare off his attacker if it wasn't.
The dino heard his name being called and his head shot up. He turned in the direction it had come from, and saw Ashe approaching. Happily, Boomy took another mouthful of leaves, and trotted off to greet him - and to show him his food that he had found! So proud.

"Oh, Boomy! Thank the spirits!" Ashe gasped when he saw his dino running over to him. Ashe leaned over and gave that long neck a big hug, as tight as he could manage, until Boomy let out a bleet of protest. Ashe released him and stepped back, patting Boomy on the side of his shoulder. "What a good boy. I missed you! But it doesn't look like you missed me too much, did you?" Boomy went back to chewing his leaves, even though some had dropped to the ground when he had opened his mouth to make that protest. He was appeased by the pat and the praise, so he didn't grump anymore. Ashe let his pulse return to normal. It was okay, Boomy was okay. It was probably safe, anyway, to leave him in this fenced in buffet. Ashe just apparently had a built in helicopter parent switch that could be activated. Who knew? "Alright, alright... What next? Wanna go look for another creature?"

Were there other creatures? Ashe wasn't sure. He had no idea why there even were creatures in this garden, his garden, or how they got here. If he knew how many, he could fish them all out, but he didn't. He hoped he was able to find the cool ones and capture them, at least... He'd be so sad if he missed out on something wicked. He honestly didn't want anything around that would prey on his pets that lived here, either, though. So he should just find all of them! Back to tracking. He glanced at the sky; it was deep in the afternoon and the sun was getting weak - what parts of the sun were visible between the gray clouds above. It still looked like it could drizzle at any moment. Not a full out rain, just drizzle.
"Let me know if you see anything... Boomy? Boomy! Come!" The dino had gotten distracted again, by food of course, but he came over when called.

Ashe thought about looking for tracks again, but the area was still so churned up from that Drej. He had backtracked to look around where he'd found the Drej last time, kind of like how he'd returned to the site of the Estharne. He would start at a red hot spot, then branch out. He wandered further off, following the Drej trail backward. Maybe he could find a point of origin? A hole in the ground? A hole in the fence? But when he got to the end of the Drej trail, that was it: the tracks just ended. There were plenty of places for the drej to have tiptoed through, and small marks wouldn't be noticed compared to the bug holes, but the churning of faster movement was gone. Ashe stopped and stared around, appearing thoughtful while he made a decision. Boomy stopped next to him, looking around. He didn't know what his human was looking for, and he had no inkling to help him. But he enjoyed the company.

With some dismay, Ashe noticed the sky getting a little darker. He hoped it was the setting sun... But in a few moments, he felt the light misting of the faintest rain. This would be okay, as long as it didn't open up and downpour on him. Ashe put up his hood on his hoodie and kept going. He wasn't going to quit until he absolutely had to! Boomy didn't seem to mind the misting. He had played in the pond earlier! And now this was like a cool refreshing bath you could breathe! He opened his mouth, trying to inhale some of that mist, but it was playing games with him and tasted like nothing.
Ashe kept pushing forward. Eventually he would reach the back of his garden plot. It was large, but not infinite. Maybe there he would find the source for this strange phenomenon. He kept his eyes peeled for any other creatures. They all seemed to be large and easy to spot, at least. He hoped the trend would continue!

The nature of autumn brings swathes of colour, and despite its size, a deep-red golossole manages to move nearly indistinguishable amongst the vegetation! The cool promise of rain, and the dimming light in the sky are otherwise missed by the bug, its curious face moving to this bush and that bush, nibbling at the handful of green leaves that manage to pepper the mostly yellow, red, and nearly-brown leaves.

It just so happened that Ashe spotted some flowers, berries, and fungus in a particular location. He walked over, deciding to take a break from his tracking and harvest some bounty from the garden itself. That was what he had the garden for originally, wasn't it? He plucked some flowers and reached for a mushroom when he noticed: he wasn't alone. There was something hunkered down, something large. He had missed it in the underbrush, the spots helping it blend somehow. But up close he could see the redness of its shell. It looked like a giant beetle - a golossle, perhaps? He stood, stashed what he'd collected, and waited to see if it noticed him. And if it didnt' notice him, it would notice Boomy, who came tromping up, mouthful of leaves from somewhere, with a wet sheen across his body. He'd been playing in the mist but was now lonely and in need of attention! "Shh!" Ashe cautioned.

Boomy looked at Ashe with confusion, not sure what the sound meant. He continued toward Ashe without much caution at all, and Ashe rolled his eyes. "Stay, Boomy!" He hissed. Boomy heard the word, and the tone, and halted where he stood. He continued munching and stared at Ashe, waiting to be allowed to come closer. He still didn't know what Ashe wanted, besides for him to stay right there... So he would stay right there!
Ashe didn't focus on Boomy for long, just long enough to make sure he obeyed the command. Which he did. "Good boy," Ashe praised softly. But then he had to turn his attention back to the creature he found: the bug. It was rummaging around, probably looking for grubs or shoots or whatever it was Golossle ate. But what a lovely pattern! Ashe had to collect it. He checked what treats he had in his pockets; mostly fruits and veggies, for Boomy. Would the bug like those...?
