On the edge of a forest, a creek ran merrily along, providing a nice home for many creatures. Lush green vegetation grew on all sides, and occasionally, small minnows would swim along. The trees rose up tall on one side, shading the area of the creek the Lotine was normally found in, causing dapples on the rushing water. It was a wide creek, and this caused half of it to remain in the sunlight daily, the water warm under Nature's touch. Lily pads grew all over, and frogs would take their turns singing solo from these. On the other side of the creek, there was a wide open meadow, covered in buttercups and violets and many other small flowers. Butterflies flitted this way and that, their dazzling colors reflecting in the sunlight. And there sat the Queen of the Creek herself, a beautiful Opal Lotine. Normally spending her time in the deeper areas of the creek, she now resided on the bank, admiring the other creatures that made their home with her. --items-- Posts: July: 0 Nightshade, level 0 Nephesh (m) Seig (m) Bonita (f) / Draco (m) / Chalk (m) / Goldilocks (f) lvl2 / lvl0 / lvl0 / lvl0 Sariel (f) / Fayleaf (f) lvl8.4 / 0 Blight Astra(f) / Diizzy Dream(m) / Make Believe(m) lvl5 / lvl5 / lvl5 Kistler (m) / Kotok (m) / Sundra (f) / Caviare (m) lvl5 / lvl5 / lvl5 / lvl5 Ghrelin lvl 0 Acid(m) / Killer(m) lvl16.4 / lvl6.4 Kodie(m) / Sprite (f) lvl17 / lvl6.3 Plato (m) / Roots lvl0.2 / lvl0 Spore, Gobber lvl 0

Continued from: HereIt was a beautiful Autumn day. Or maybe afternoon, rather, since the sun was starting to sink from the highest point in the sky. Ashe wasn't sure what time it was, though he knew he had enough time to visit his garden and get some weeding done. He had neglected it most of the summer, instead opting to do different things. He had a lot on his plate, to be honest, and it was to the point he had purchased some bots to do some chores that needed doing. Feeding, cleaning, and other small tasks around the house, the Aquarium, the Keep... Oh man, he was just a man but he was building an empire. You'd think a day spent doing nothing but relaxing in nature and picking weeds was a vacation, too! Inyala was with Ashe as usual, but she scurried alongside him on the ground rather than chilling on his shoulder. She had been informed that they were going to check up on their Leaf Scatter, which were supposedly blooming during this time. When they arrived, it didn't take long to seek them out. Sariel - identifiable by having a little cleft in her leafy tail that Fayleaf lacked - went scurrying out from under a fern, chasing a beetle of some sort that had taken to the air. Inyala launched into action, scurrying after the Leaf-scatter. The little critter was pretty fast, and agile at that, ducking and dodging the smaller plants and running around a tree to try to get away. But Inyala was quick, too, and also intuitive. She accurately predicted the Leaf-Scatter's decisions about sixty-five percent of the time. It took a while, but eventually the little blue Imp cornered the Leaf-scatter in a grove of ferns. Instead of pouncing, like Sariel was sure she was going to do, Inyala just held out her hands to show she meant no harm. She crept closer, wanting to see a real life garden plant pet up close. Since Ashe didn't frequent the Gardens as much, Inyala hadn't seen much of the fauna that lived here, and she felt like she was missing out.
The leaf-scatter was a real cutie, if Inyala said so herself. It was small and brown, almost feline, with tiny little paws. Green tipped ears and a literal leaf for a tail, it was definitely showing off how it was part plant. It behaved like an animal, though, not putting down roots and taking in nutrients like a plant. Odd. Inyala wanted to touch it suddenly, and she made her way closer to it, bracing in case it ran away.

Sariel watched the Imp with both curiosity and fear. She had been terrified when the Imp had first set upon her, chasing her this way and that. She hadn't been able to get away and had ended up getting caught, which was all the scarier. What did this monster want with her? She had never seen this creature before in her life and now it was going to... What? Its hands were held up and it was walking closer! That was scary. She backed up a few steps, but felt like she would just be caught again if she tried to flee now. No, she had to wait until the monster wasn't looking. And it was coming closer! She trembled a little bit, twitching like a leave on a twig in a breeze. The hand was closer, closer - and then it was touching her! Petting her short brown fur, smoothing down over her shoulder and ribs. The touch kind of felt nice but she still didn't trust it, it was too stressful just being touched. Maybe, MAYBE, by Ashe but not by something else! It soon became too much for her and she took a few steps away, to get out of touching range but not to instigate another chase that she would lose.

There was the crunching sound of leaves and twigs, as if something large was approaching. Inyala looked up, startled to be joined by something or someone, and Sariel saw this as her chance to get away. She bolted, taking off under the broad leaves of the ferns, almost completely hidden by leaf and shadow. She ran this way and that, zig zagging in an attempt to get away. Inyala, meanwhile, was realizing her mistake; she should have known it was just Ashe trying to catch up to them and see what was going on. The man stood there, frowning down at Inyala, taking in the moving leaves as they bounced up and down, making it very obvious that something had just sprinted through them. "I chased off Sariel, didn't I?" Ashe asked, half muttering to himself and half asking for confirmation. Inyala gave a short nod, then turned and started to track the Leaf-scatter. She, with Ashe following in tow, walked among the plants, looking for the cute little creature.
"Sariel! Come out, little girl. Where'd you go, precious? Sariel!" Ashe wasn't exactly the closest, bonding wise, to his plant pets, but he thought he and Sariel had had some decent adventures back in the day. He hoped she would remember him like a pet would, and not like a plant wouldn't.

The pair walked carefully through the garden, with Ashe still calling occasionally for Sariel. Sometimes, he thought he saw the fronds moving, but when he got there of course there was nothing there. She could have easily been there and run off in the time it took for him to check each fern. He sighed, getting tired of trying to find this leaf scatter, and he went to a grassy patch of earth surrounded by plants but otherwise bare itself. He called Inyala to him, so she would stop terrorizing the plant life that lived here. He sat and reclined back on his arms, looking around, then looking up at the sky. It was a lovely day outside, the sun still high in the sky even if not at the highest peak point. It would be getting chillier now, and even more so once the sun set, but for now it was beautiful outside. Inyala and Ashe sat side by side, soaking in the rays that filtered down through the tree branches, and letting the breeze cool their skin in a refreshing manner.
Before too long, Ashe saw some of the ferns shaking, as if something was coming toward them. He watched, curious and hopeful, and was pleased when he saw a little brown head peeking through.

It was a chilly day, and Ashe was dressed accordingly. He had on black jeans, looser fitting than he normally wore because he planned on being on his knees in the dirt and needed mobility, and a black coat zipped to his chin. Underneath, he had an under armor style long sleeve shirt under a black T shirt, because he wasn't going to be surprised when he got too warm to keep the coat on. He had a lovely array of gardening tools with him, from a hand trowel to pruning shears. He also had a pair of gloves. When he got to the garden, he slipped inside the gate and shut the gate behind him, then looked around in astonishment. Things had been growing even in the winter, it seemed! And as he looked, he noticed a rustling in the undergrowth over there, and stood still to watch and see what came out. A flash of blue, and some gray - a Mussimander! "Did you come to greet me, hm?" Ashe asked the little Mussimander, his voice soft so he wouldn't scare it away. He dropped down into a squat and held out his hand to the little lizard. It was Astra; Ashe recognized her. She was one of the special three Mussimander that he had in his possession. They were prizes from the war, so long ago fought, between plant and robot. Occasionally he tried to pick its special mushrooms, but otherwise left it be to roam around the garden with its friends. Ashe supposed he should actually train these guys some day, if they were even capable of being trained, but today was not the day. He watched as the curious lizard tilted her head left and right, then scurried closer to Ashe, recognizing him for who he was. It was almost like she was happy to see him; Why, Ashe had no idea. He didn't spend near enough time with these guys.

The mussimander came almost close enough to touch, then it scurried backward, as if suddenly shy. Ashe crooned to it softly and waggled his fingers at it to keep its attention. Astra looked at him, watching those fingers closely, then she waddled the rest of the way over to him and allowed him to pat her on the head. She looked at him with that happy expression the Mussies wore, no matter their mood it seemed. Ashe for one had never seen another expression on there... Though maybe his were just naturally happy creatures. "Come with me," He told her, making a soft gesture with his hand. He stood up and dusted his pants off. The action startled her a little bit, but she recovered quick enough. Once she was calm again, that's when Ashe started to move. He walked along, trying to find the path he usually took that wound in and out through his garden. So overgrown... What a monster.

"Man, I'm the world's worst gardener," He told himself as he walked. He felt bad, but he also didn't know how he could change things up to make more time for this. He'd just have to continue to try and get out here when he could, and so as much as he could. As he walked along, he saw that Astra was following him, not ready to give up on his company. It was rare enough that perhaps it made his presence a special occasion. Maybe the other critters in the Garden would feel the same way? Ashe hoped so. He liked it when the creatures greeted him, made him feel like he was providing them a place to live happily. But if they stayed away from him, shy or scared, it was more like he just released wild animals out here and they had no bond with him. It felt more like neglecting his children! Astra seemed happy to have him there, though.

They came to a rather prickly spot. Things had started overgrowing onto the path, and Ashe had to pull his trusted shears out to get through it. The vines were weird, he wasn't sure where they had come from. What plant did he have that would spread vines all over? He thought about this as he cut, pulled, cut, pulled, until he had a nice little pile of clippings at his feet and the path was clear again. He saw a flash of silver and realized that nothing bothered Astra; she was small enough to duck and dart through the smaller spaces and get around just about everything. Too bad Ashe wasn't able to do that. He continued along the path, which seemed to open up a little more after that. It was like those vines were trying to close off the garden to the entrance to the outside. How strange... Surely it couldn't be on purpose after all?

What strange beard-like fruit! The mussimander seems to be pretty stingy at the moment.

Ashe cracked his knuckles and looked at the mess before him. Why didn't he garden more? Whenever he was here, he thoroughly enjoyed being in nature, outdoors and right in the middle of it. But then he would look around at how he let everything become overgrown and a mess and he would feel a little bit of guilt for letting it get that way. Did his pets that lived here enjoy it like this? Or would they prefer it to look nice, to be easier to navigate? Sometimes animals liked it when it was messy because that was real. But he couldn't help but feel judged for it. So he came here sometimes, intending to do something fun, and instead spent the whole time cleaning. So here he was.. And what was that thing on the log? He frowned, looking at it, not sure if he wanted to get closer. He had brought gloves just in case, mostly thinking of poison ivy. Ashe inched closer, looking it over. It looked spiny, but something told him that those weren't exactly needles. But upon closer examination, he found out it was just his fungal beast. To be honest, he wasn't capable of pronouncing its full name. He couldn't even spell it. So he named it Spore and called it a day, going about his business hoping it didn't kill the other creatures happily living their lives in his garden. So far, so good, they seemed to avoid each other. He walked around it, giving it a wide berth, unsure how it felt about him. He had owned this thing for ages and yet had never done anything with it. What could you do with it, anyway? He'd heard you could harvest some sort of toxin from it, and he could maybe incorporate it into his potion making practice, but... did he dare?
"Hey, you slimey fungus, how ya doin?" Ashe ventured.
