This is where any Miscellaneous training will take place that is not in any of the other areas. There is no designated area, as time spent here is normally chosen at random out of the vast open space that no one has claimed.
Anything posted after 5/15/10 will abide to this, and all else shall be kept simply for reference.

"There's something else I want you two to both learn. It's sort of essential to battling, in my experience, and any of my partners that goes into battle will have this trained. It's pretty important to be able to read you opponent's moves. And if you can't see them, then at least sense where there attack is coming from. And dodge it. We'll start off easy." Ashe was suddenly thankful that he had trained both critters something they could actually use to help this training along - he wouldn't have to do much, would he?
"When I give you the signal, Inyala, I want you to throw that ember at Genji, alright? We're going to start off easy, so don't throw it too hard, let him see it coming so he can move out of the way. Then we'll step it up."
Even as he explained this game plan to the Imp, the Shjin floated right beside them, so he knew the plan. The goal wasn't to surprise Genji, just yet, so Ashe didn't mind if he knew. He still had to do it!
Ashe snapped his fingers, a soft dry-skin rasp sound, and Inyala knew what to do. She snapped her own fingers, which made a louder crack sound, and a tiny flame shot through the air toward the Shijin. Genji, of course, side-stepped and dodged the fire.
"Good work, both of you! And again." Ashe snapped his fingers.

"Great work, both of you! Genji, keep trying to dodge the attacks. Inyala, keep'em coming." Ashe planned to take a backseat to this training, assuming he could get them working together. Inyala did as she was asked and tiny flames shot at the tiger, flying through the air in an arc aiming right for his body. The Shijin had no problem dodging these, at the slow pace she was throwing them. He side stepped, ducked, and dodged deftly, and after a few more ember attacks, he was getting kind of cocky. He moved the absolute minimum, testing his limits, fully confident in his abilities. Of course, as was bound to happen, the tiger slipped up and got smacked with a tiny ember right in the face.
Genji pawed at his face, alarmed. He hadn't ever felt pain before, besides Ashe's emotional turmoil. No, this wasn't coming from the human, this was on himself. The ethereal creature backed off, shaking his head, still pawing at his face. The pain was gone, the attack was finished, but it still felt like something was there!
"Pay attention, Genji!" Ashe called from the sidelines. The tiger looked up just as more embers came sailing his way. Inyala was continuing her assault on him despite his wounds! The tiger nimbly jumped from side to side, dodging once again. A new determination was awakened in him and he stopped trying to show off. It hurt when he made a mistake! He'd do it right from here on out.

The storm hit then - but the rain shower didn't wait, so both of them were rather drenched. Unfortunately, it wasn't summer and this wasn't a warm rain, so it also gave both of them the chills. Ashe had a jacket on, but once the water penetrated, that was all there was to it. He found a spot to sit down on the ground to watch the show, the view of which had as few trees in the way as possible, and Raven joined him. The big Vulticus laid down behind him but curled his body around so his tail was next to one of Ashe's knees, and his big head was laying in his lap from the other side. And then, as previously stated, the storm hit. The rain pounded down harder, and thunder rolled off in the distance. "This will be your first storm out in the open, I think. Huh, Raven?" Ashe asked, petting his fur. Raven flicked his tail, signaling he heard, but he didn't reply otherwise. Suddenly, there was a brilliant flash that lit up the sky. The jagged arc that cut the sky in half caught Raven's attention, but it was there and gone in a flash - and then the thunder cracked. [Accept loud sounds - 1] [Accept Sudden Movements - 9] (Already completed) ----------- Raven got to his feet, ears perked up, alert and ready. A growl rumbled through his chest, and Ashe wasn't sure if he was going to bark at the movement of the lightning, like he thought it was a bird, or if he was upset over the sound. He waited for the next blast to come, and though it took a minute or two, Raven never sat down. Ashe watched him carefully, gauging his actions. And then the next round came, with a flash of lightning the made it look like daytime, even though the world was covered in dark clouds. But it wasn't the lightning that caught Raven's attention, and he even ignored the late bunny that crossed in front of the cave in its search for the burrow. No, he was more focused on the noise, and when the thunder clapped, Raven was barking at it like a maniac. "Raven, no!" Ashe said, trying to get him to settle down and stop barking. "No! Raven, Heel!" Ashe stood up, halfways concerned that Raven would run out there and chase the thunder giant or something stupid. But Raven seemed to be staying inside the cave okay, and he heard Ashe's command and came back to him, growling all the way. Though Ashe wanted to see one more thing. If he ever got to the point where he wanted to play-wrestle with Raven, as Ashe had done with Krow at one point, then he'd have to be okay on his back! Ashe knew some more dominant creatures didn't like the submissive pose, let alone having Ashe be there on top. So it was something that had to be done, had to be explored. "Sit," Ashe said. Raven tilted his head, wondering what was up since the human was suddenly so serious, but he collected his haunches under him and sat obediently. "Lay down," Ashe said next, and again Raven found himself doing what Ashe had asked. He stretched out, getting comfy, then looked at Ashe to make sure he was doing what was asked. Of course he was, so Ashe scratched his ear. "Now this is a little different..." Ashe murmured, pressing his hands on Raven's sides. "Roll over! Roll over, boy." Why not get him used to hearing those words, too? "C'mon, big guy. Rooooll over!" Ashe pushed, and pushed, and eventually the Vulticus gave in. He thumped his tail to show Ashe he meant no harm, and laid still to try to allow him to do whatever he had to do. "Good boy, Raven!" He was a sturdy, solid creature, giving the appearance of a corpse brought back to life and stitched whole. Black flames erupted around each foot, concealing bone-colored hooves sharp as steel, and in a stripe down his back including his tail. Atop his head was a horn long as Ashe's forearm, chiseled to a deadly spike. A pair of leather wings were furled at his sides, hiding the extra-padded soft saddle Ashe used on him. Though it had stirrups attached, Ashe's feet dangled even below the wings, still a good four feet from the ground. Atop the man's shoulder huddled a bundle of blue - his trusty familiar, the Imp Inyala. Unlike a lot of Ashe's other creatures, she liked Maverick. Ashe wasn't sure how this had come about, exactly, seeing as his Imp distrusted nearly every creature he worked with, suspecting them of one day turning on their master and harming Ashe in some way. Obviously, Maverick posed no threat. Which was true, of course. Ashe had been with the formerly blind stallion since birth. Mav: + 0 1/5 Inyala: + 0 1/5 Ashe: 0 5/10

[[[Maverick Paused]]] Procrastinating as always, Ashe was behind on his goal for the Trainer's Guild. He had fallen out of the lead in the rankings (completely excluding Jack, of course, she was insane) and he was determined to try and catch back up. That meant he had to actually do some of the assignments that got posted on the board! So here he was, having copied down this month's tasks. Simple basics, which was great and would likely be a breeze, but difficult for the simple fact that it meant he would have to bring out a whole new pet, with little previous interaction. You couldn't very well get credit for training a creature its name, if it already knew its name, eh? So Ashe had picked out one of his personal favorites, a pudgey little dragon called a Paogon, and brought him to the park with them. Ashe had a leash and collar with him, but he'd borrowed the Sarane wing tethers to keep him from flying away. He was pretty confident that he could catch Ichka if he tried to waddle away, but not if he took to the air. Inyala was on his shoulder as usual, and he might try to utilize her in the training if he could. Maybe as a treat holder. Ashe had brought his clicker, too, so maybe in tandem... Soon enough, the trio made their way into the park. Ichka: 0 1/5 Inyala: + 0 2/5 Ashe: 0 6/10

Ashe made his way to the usual spot, thankful for the fact that most people seemed to have a 'usual spot' and left his alone. He opted to stay out in the grass, instead of the little round pen he had constructed, to better create that 'free' natural feeling. However, if Ichka got a little too distracted, he could take away those distractions in the wooden pen.
First, he'd have to train the name and maybe 'come', before he could trust Ichka without the leash. Better get started. "Y'la, I'm gonna have you be in charge of these," He confided to her, handing her over the bag of berries as treats. Ichka was a glorified parrot and ate all sorts of things, Ashe'd found out. He had bugs and berries today, healthy and not too filling. "When I click this-" He clicked the clicker, "-give the beastie a treat, okay?" He held her gaze until she nodded, then he focused on the dragon. He expected to be able to get the first couple of things trained without the clicker, seeing as it would be easier for him to give the treats personally. So he held onto the bugs.
"Ichka," Ashe said, and repeated it a little bit soon after, louder. As expected, the parrot dragon didn't care about Ashe - he was having too much fun looking at everything around him. The sky, the sun, a butterfly, an ant...

"Ichka. Ichka. Hey, fatty, look at me. Ichka!" Ashe kept up a periodic, yet steady, stream of words trying to get his attention. Occasionally, he would look at Ashe, but it was so brief Ashe could barely count it. After five minutes of trying to get the parrot dragon's attention, Ashe decided he had to use the clicker. He held out his arm, a signal to Inyala to ignore this part (why reward him if he's not paying attention yet?) and clicked the clicker immediately after saying his name again. The sound caught his attention and the parrot swiveled his head around on his long neck, curious. What was that sound? He eyed Ashe, and Ashe clicked it again and said his name. The critter's head tilted to the side, contemplating. "Good boy, Ichka!" Ashe said, clicking the clicker. He was close enough himself, thanks to the leash, that he could reach out and hand over a bug. Ichka looked at Ashe's hand suspiciously, but his keen eyes caught sight of the bug and he quickly grabbed it.
"Ow, that was my finger!" Ashe grunted scoldingly. Ichka ignored him and munched on his treat. Rolling his eyes, Ashe got back to work. "Ichka. Look at me. Over here. Ichka." Ashe would click as he said the name, and it seemed to be helping. Eventually, he'd have to get it done without the clicker, but for now he had good experiences with the clicker, as long as that lesson stuck...

"Ichka." Click. Look up. Reward.
"Ichka." Click. Look up. Reward.
God, this was so boring. Ashe tended to skip this and just trust the creature would learn its name as he trained more fun, more useful things. It worked out for everyone, because by then the pets tended to actually care about Ashe a little bit, and had more respect when he was talking. Ichka respected the clicker, but...
"Ichka." No click. Quickly lost interest.
Ashe tried again a few times, then went back to using the clicker to get his attention. He used the clicker once more, then tried again without it. Ichka had a brief look up, expecting the sharper sound of a click. He didn't hear it and started to turn away again, but Ashe was faster. "Ichka," Ashe said, extending his hand with another bug. Perking up, Ichka quickly grabbed the bug and munched on it happily. He allowed the Paogon to get distracted again, then said his name. Nothing. Name and click - reward. Name and no click... Oh, he responded! he rewarded a bug before he could look away. Progress!
Inyala watched on. At first, she had felt like cheering on her master, just because he was working on something. But the more she watched, the more pointless she thought this was, and the more bored she became. Humans.. So weird...

"Ichka." No click. Reward.
Hey, he was getting pretty good at this! He had gone from a ten percent success rate to a seventy-five percent success rate. Ashe was relieved that this might finally be sinking in, and they could move on. He should just be grateful, actually, that the Paogon was listening to him at all, right? They weren't that closely bonded yet. But Ashe was impatient.
"Ichka." The Paogon looked at Ashe and gave a squawk, ready for a treat. Ashe gave it to him and patted him on the head. Now came the switch up. Ashe had knowlingly used the clicker improperly, trying to get a jump start on the Paogon listening to him. Now he was going to have to change it so that the sound of the click was the reward, and hope that the little dragon hadn't associated the click with the name. Ashe said his name a dozen or two more times, varying frequencies, and slowly weaned him off the treats. He started to click after a success, and sometimes there was a treat, sometimes he reached down and patted him on the head, and sometimes he just said a few words of verbal praise.
Inyala stood by, ready, and watched. She had the backup treats but Ashe hadn't told her to use them just yet. To her untrained eye, the Paogon seemed to be doing good. He was going to get fat off of all those bugs, that was good, right?

"Good boy, Ichka!" Ashe said, and patted the Paogon. Ich seemed to really enjoy the attention. So long without much human contact, besides Ashe feeding and cleaning, and now he was getting talked to and stuffed like a turkey! He squirmed, trying to flap his wings in his excitement, but the tethers held them in place. A mild annoyance, and he struggled a bit more before giving up. Then he heard that word again and looked up at the human. No treat this time, but a pat on the head. He gave a squawk of protest, but to be honest he had had a lot of bugs lately...
Next, the human said something new. "C'mere, Ichka." Looking up at the familiar word, he saw the human had moved a few steps away, so the leash was almost taut between them. The silly tether that held him.... He felt like chewing it. So he did. Om nom nom. The tether suddenly jerked, and Ashe said, "No, Ichka. Pay attention. Focus." Pause. "C'mere." He gave the leash a gentle tug. The Paogon tilted his head, then hesitantly took a step forward. Ashe made the good-click sound, and said the word again, sounding excited and encouraging. Unsure, the Paogon looked at the little blue person, and she chirped encouragingly to him as well. What was he supposed to do, though?

"Ichka," Ashe said, noting that he responded to that name, even though the other words were confusing him a bit. "C'mere. You can do it. C'mere." He gently tugged on the leash again. The paogon looked down at the leash, then at Ashe, and with the assistance of the pressure, he took another step toward Ashe. The man made the clicking sound once again and got a treat out. But he didn't hand it over, like he did earlier, even though he made the good-click sound. Before the Paogon could make a move on his own and foil it, Ashe said that word again, "C'mere," and pointed toward the treat. Eager, and also curious, the parrot dragon shuffled his feet over toward the bug on the ground. His tail dragged behind him and the going was slow and goofy, but he got to the bug and ate it up. Ashe made the good-click sound and patted him on the head. He scooted back and said the new word again, giving a gentle tug on the leash. Was it happening again? Ichka inched forward, and his pace sped up when he saw Ashe had put another treat on the ground. He gobbled that up, too. "Stay..." Ashe murmured, which might not even have been needed since he was still munching. He backed up again and gave the leash a tug as he said, "C'mere!" Another treat. A faster response. And again. Inyala watched on, silently pleased that the Paogon was picking this part up so quickly.

Ashe needed to increase the distance. The leash wasn't that long and they'd already exhausted that short distance. Did he dare unleash the beast? Well, between himself and Inyala, he figured one of them could catch a tethered Paogon. Especially if he left the leash on, and just dropped it. Yeah, that sounded like a good idea. He patted the little dragon, and scratched between his wings, causing him to thrum softly. Cutely. "Alright, Ichka. Let's try something a bit different." He stood back up and started walking, but the Paogon tried to follow after him. "Stay!" Ashe said quickly. "Stay." He started walking away again, turning every so often to say the command again. Ichka tried to follow him a couple more times, but when Ashe refused to let him, he contented himself to just sit in the dirt.
"C'mere!" Oh, now he wanted him to come? Ichka had half a mind to just keep sitting there. And he did for a few seconds. Long enough for Ashe to say it again. He finally started waddling over, receiving the good-click and a pat. He liked those. But just like last time, Ashe told him "Stay," And started backing away from him again. Ichka tried twice to follow after, and was given a sharp tone of the same word again, so he sat down with a huff.
And... Ashe gave the good-click, and suddenly the blue person was giving him a berry?

Ichka munched it, suspicious but accepting. He wasn't sure why he was getting it. Maybe it had something to do with that new new word that Ashe used? He was using so many words today and trying to make Ichka keep up, it was kind of mind blowing, really. The Paogon was content to just sit there, but Ashe said the other new word, "C'mere," Which sounded almost like a purr to his Paogon ears. He knew what Ashe wanted, though it was a little difficult for his filled brain to sort one word from the other. After a slight hesitation, he started toward Ashe, cautious in case he didn't like it, and then faster when Ashe didn't react negatively. So this is what he wanted! He picked up the pace and arrived at Ashe's feet, greeted by a good-click and a pat. He remembered, he'd been correct!
Ashe again said, "Stay..." and started backing away. Ichka was relieved he'd figured out the other word, so when this one was said, it probably meant sit right there and don't follow. That's how he got the berry treat last time, wasn't it? Unsure, he took a step forward, then retreated the same step and sat on his tail. He received another good-click, and the blue person presented him with a treat. He might be getting the hang of this confusing mess! "C'mere!" He started toward the man, but got distracted by a butterfly flying past. He started to chase it instead of going to Ashe. "Ichka, no! No! Get back here! Stay!"

Another word thrown into the mix! It was said sharply enough that it caused Ichka to stop and sit back on his tail instantly. He didn't like that word one bit. He looked back over his shoulder at Ashe, seeing the man standing where he'd left him, but looking intently at him. What'd he do wrong? This was so unfair.
"Ichka, c'mere." It took Ichka a moment to realize he wasn't going to get scolded again, he started to go back to the human. It seemed, at least to Ashe, that he had the 'come' command down pretty well, he just needed the motivation to listen to it a bit faster. They would work on that with time. For now, Ashe clicked the clicker and gave him a pat, then repeated the entire 'stay' process. This time, it went through without an issue. No butterflies to distract or anything. He stayed put, head swiveling around because he was growing a bit bored. And then another "c'mere" and he approached.
Over and over again, reinforcing the idea that he was understanding the two words. Ashe was willing to put money on it by the time he decided to spice things up a bit. He briefly instructed Inyala to keep close behind Ichka during this, just in case. "Stay," Ashe said, maybe a bit more firmly than before, but not unkindly. Inyala iched closer as Ashe started walking away. And away. Ichka didn't much like how far Ashe was walking away, so he squawked and tried to follow, risking the scolding..
"No!" Ashe said, from a distance. Having expected the sharp exclaim, Ichka sat and waited.

Ashe walked quite a ways away, close to one hundred yards maybe? Inyala wasn't the best at judging distances, and she was still comfortable so he wasn't too terribly far. But Ichka was getting a bit antsy, not liking that the human was so far away with the treats and the good click sound and... Well, it would just be a lot more fun if he was allowed to wander around not have to just sit here and wait! Inyala chirped, as if trying to tell him to stay again, but that was fine because Ichka wasn't going anywhere.
Finally, Ashe got into place. He cupped a hand to his mouth to help amplify the sound of his command, and he said, "C'mere, Ichka!" The Paogon squawked and flapped his tethered wings. He knew this! He could do this! He started forward. It was only after a few steps when the next command came. "Stay!" He was surprised to hear it, and hesitated mid step. It was a stumbled success, but Ashe would count it as a success anyway, and he was rewarded with a good-click. "C'mere!" He called again, and the Paogon continued on his way. It was really weird that the human wanted to play games like this.. But hey, if it got him treats and attention.
"Stay!" He stopped, easier this time. Always easier, as his brain was able to make the connections faster.
"C'mere!"

Ashe and Ichka repeated this process, getting better and better in their teamwork, over the course of the one hundred yards. That was a decently long span of time for the little parrot dragon to pay attention, so Ashe was more than pleased when he finally reached his side. He gave the click from the clicker, which Ichka seemed to really enjoy - he basically preened under the praise - and rewarded him with a bug and a berry, courtesy of Inyala. She hadn't had to do much, not so far anyway, but she was a big help despite that. She was Ashe's backup and he felt better knowing she was there.
Convinced Ichka had learned the commands to come and to stay, and would obey them even if there were distractions or distance between them, Ashe mentally checked them off the list he had in his pocket. One more thing to teach him, and to do this, he would have to go for a walk or something. Ichka was rather well behaved where they were at and he needed to not be so well behaved. He stooped to pick up the leash and called for Inyala, who immediately hopped up onto his shoulder. Standing, he called for Ichka to come with him, and off they went through one of the park's trails.
A few minutes around a bend, out of sight of their usual spot, Ashe got a chance to work on this. The paogon saw some sort of small creature, possibly a rodent, and bolted for it, jerking Ashe's arm. "No! Ichka, no!"

Ichka skidded to a halt, wincing as he heard the firm tone and that word he hated. What was up with that, what'd he do? He squawked grumpily and slunk back a step or two to Ashe's side. Why?
His spirits brightened when they continued on their walk again. He was truly enjoying being out and about like this with his friends and he didn't want it to end. They walked down the path, and around another bend in the trees. Here, there was a little stream that ran through, and a small bridge crossed over it to the other side. Ashe walked alongside the stream first, up one way and down the other. Occasionally, Ichka would start to do something, or see a critter and try to bolt after it, or pull on the leash in the opposite direction when Ashe specifically said "C'mere," and Ashe would have to use the dreaded word. "No, Ichka." And generally, the Paogon reacted favorably and knew to knock it off.
One time, however, he made a run at a fish he saw in the stream. Jerked the leash out of Ashe's hand and started for the water. "No!" Ashe said, trying to be extra firm, but it was too late. Ichka tried to listen, tried to skid to a halt, but the loose dirt and mud and his momentum all teamed up to send him into the water with a SPLASH!
