Renathan had never once bred or worked with a Lotine; but he did want to try it at least once. He figured out through the grapevine that those rare reddish berries, that he saw at the Trader's and managed to get one of, could be used to get a Lotine to produce a Lola that had special colors that were never before seen. Of course, he also knew that the kid was willing to give quite a chunk of change for a lola that was outside of the standard colors for their richy-rich garden that they wanted to produce, and Renathan was perfectly willing to do a bit of work for a nice chunk of change, especially since the kid was a decent pet-trainer. Some day, Renathan was sure that he would do this again to produce a nicely colored lotine for himself, but for now, Princess was good enough for him. Renathan took Princess to the Breeding Center to get her bred. The lotine rooms were hardly used, so it didn't take long to get placed.

Renathan had not spent any time with only Princess; there were so many different critters in the his garden! But today, he was going to spend at least a little time with her of course. Princess was compliant and quiet, a true mist dragon, polite and congenial. The lotine seemed happy enough, especially since Renathan was giving her a fish every so often. She tended to do her own fishing of course, in the well-stocked brook in his garden, but who turns down a free meal? Certainly not Princess! Renathan smiles softly, and then pets her head as they get back into the room. He was glad that for once he didn't have to wait in the waiting room forever. Lotine were hardly ever bred, and he was not sure why. Sure, Lola didn't naturally grow into lotine, but they were cute, weren't they? Renathan was sure that he'd breed princess again in the future, in an attempt to get a few lola for his garden.

Still, Renathan could wait a little bit on the lola for himself. He already had a ton of creatures living in his gardens, and he had no idea what to do with half of them. He had began working with pachee a bit as well, and he had so many males in comparison to his female that he was thinking that he was going to need to get rid of one or two of those... He figured that he might give one to Jack, if she was willing to take him, of course. Another would need to go too; maybe to the kid as well? He was sure that he could convince them. The quiet lotine took in the room carefully, her deep eyes like pools of water their-selves, reflecting the pool of water in the middle of the room. She wasn't too attached to Renathan, but he did often give her food...

Princess didn't seem to wait for very long before she nudged Renathan's hand, looking only for more food and not asking him for anything. He looked at her, frowning a bit beneath the mask, and shook his head sadly. "The rest are for when it is time to go home. We just need to wait until you're ready to uh, do your thing?" He knew a little bit about lotine, but only in so much that he had read about them. He knew mentally, of course, the knowledge that lotine were all female, they all produced berries, and these berries... Faded into lola. Whatever that meant! However, he had not seen this before, just read about it and heard about it, so he had no idea what to expect with Princess. Princess was quite intelligent, he could tell, since she was nudging at his backpack for more fish, like she could smell it in there.

"You are a smart lady aren't you, Princess? Maybe I should have named you something else. I mean, you are a sweet lady of course... Well, unless one is a fish." Renathan was babbling now, trying to make her feel better. He patted her muzzle, or went to, and she dodged away, only his fingertips gently stroked any amount of fur. "Oh, I see. I wouldn't like me very much yet either. I am so used to training beasties that are well-used to me, that I forgot that you wouldn't particularly care for me at first." He said, hoping that eventually she would get used to his voice. "Thanks for coming with me, anyway. I know it was the fish though... But we have to have you here, when your berry starts forming." He wasn't sure how often they did this, but he had heard what to look for when it was time for them to start.

Princess seemed pretty ready; a little nervous and finicky acting in the garden, being protective and chasing off some of the other creatures. Sure that wasn't always what everyone's lotines tended to do when the time came, but 'odd behavior' was definitely on the list, and this certainly counted as odd behavior. Sure, Renathan hadn't worked with Princess personally, but he had watched her, as he sat in the gazebo and worked with the other creatures and the garden itself. He knew what 'normal' was for her, and this was certainly not it. Finally, Princess seems to lose interest in his backpack and instead moves over a bit clumsily to the area in the lotine room with the water. She slid into the water super gracefully, leaving Renathan a bit shocked of course. He'd seen her swim tons of times now, but it was still really graceful and he was amazed.

Renathan would have to spend more time working with the pretty creature in the future. He had read that lotine were as intelligent as Sarabi was, though he hadn't watched her enough to know for sure yet. He could tell that she was pretty clever for now, however, but he wanted to know how quickly Princess would pick up tricks and such. Then again, Sarabi was considered sentient, so it might be a better idea to hold off until he knew about her better. There wasn't really a whole lot of information about Lotine at all, to be honest, and Renathan wasn't sure about a lot of the information. She was a quick little fisher, and clever. She often left the fish alone when she wasn't hungry from what Renathan had seen, and when she was hungry, she often corralled the fish to make them much more easy to catch. That was quite a good sign of intelligence!

Princess was watching him with curious dark pool-like eyes, almost rippling in their gaze. The peculiar look of them almost felt like they made her seem like she was crying; but Renathan didn't think she had any reason to be sad. He tilted his head anyway, curiously, cautiously. "Oh, are you begging for a fish? Is this what your begging looks like, Princess?" He asked softly, his voice gentle. He didn't want to frighten her if she was sad, but he didn't think she was actually sad. She wasn't a human, there was no need to anthropomorphize her. "Aww, you are so cute though. How's about this; I'll give you a fish if you eat this berry without any qualms. How about that?" While he was speaking, he was walking forward, pulling the berry out from a side pouch. He wasn't sure what they tasted like, and wasn't ever going to find out.

The russet mammalian had no desire to actually eat the berry himself, but it was obvious that the lotine was curious about it. Thankfully, she was. Renathan had been worried that he would have to force it down her, since she seemed to prefer fish to any other forms of nourishment, though he had seen her eat other things before. "Are you going to eat this, Princess?" He said, and then gently sat it down on the ground near her. The plump red berry only had to sit there for just a second before she scooped over to the dry area and scooped it up in her mouth, eating it pretty quickly. "Oh, well that is good, looks like you are hungry. I saw you hunting this morning; so I know you ate... Maybe berry-making makes you take more energy?" Renathan said, watching her. Something odd was already happening, he could just tell by looking at her.

Renathan watched her for a moment as she seemed to get a little nervous, and was curious. "Oh, are you okay?" He found himself asking, cautious. He was hoping that she wasn't choking on the berry or something, but she didn't seem to be having any trouble breathing... Renathan was still nervous about it, though. That was all that needed to be done, right? He realized that he could really be there all day, waiting for her to produce her berry. Renathan sat down nearby, waiting. About an hour later, the lotine sat up from the position that she had been laying down on the land from, half of her body in the water of the breeding center room. The lotine stared at Renathan; the great pools of her eyes wavering for a moment, and then her flower began to close. Oh, OH; that meant that the berry was being made, right? The berry was formed, and Renathan was a tad nervous. This was good, right?

Once the berry matures, a unique lola is produced.
