Fiera hustled down the sidewalk, trying to keep the carriers she had under each arm from slipping. So much for getting a lot of breedings done this month! As far as she knew, she’d be squeaking in right under the wire. She had a lot of things planned this month, but oh man did things NOT go her way. Distraction after distraction, responsibility after responsibility, left her unable to get anything frivolous done. Frivolous things such as shoving cute animals together in a room until they made more cute animals. She was always a fan of that, but the cards just hadn’t been in the deck this time around. The humanish moved to check her watch- and nearly fumbled one of her carriers onto the ground. Thankfully, her catlike reflexes meant that she managed to catch it before the pachee inside could get too bashed up, but the slip up didn’t help her nerves any. She heard it thrash around in the carrier, and she whispered apologies to it while glancing around and hoping nobody saw her do that. She shuffled it again, tucking it back up under her arm, and hustled off down the sidewalk once more, in the direction of the breeding center.

There was the quest board, she thought as she passed it by. Thankfully, there was no one there to flag her down and force her to help them this time. That had been happening surprisingly often lately. The last time, she had been walking with her lamadidron, Lincoln, only for an old woman to practically leap out of the bushes in front of her. Things had gone… weird from there. She went to an overgrown garden, did some sleuthing, turned out to not need any sleuthing when she found a giant nyssa, fought the giant nyssa for a crystal, her lamadidron stole the crystal, her lamadidron ran off with the crystal, she fought her pet for the crystal… frankly, the bonsai trees she had gotten out of it almost didn’t seem worth it. Still, at least she had gotten some nice… bonding time… with Lincoln. She had gotten to take a look at the gardens too. Despite her eagerness to participate in the ins and outs of the labs, the gardens were something she just never gotten around to. That being said, she wasn’t sure that quest was the best introduction to them. Too much brawling with animals for her taste.

She was, of course, breeding pachee today. She somehow tended to breed orbaru more often, even though pachee were her favorite out of the breedable species. She knew she could bring in multiple males, though she just had two today. One of them, Faint Impressions, had a bit of experience breeding, the other, Hot Ham Water was brand new. Hopefully that wouldn’t make it take too long- she didn’t want to have to sit around while the animals she brought with her figured out how their own anatomy worked. It was always such a drag when something took more time than she was expecting it to- hopefully that wouldn’t be the case here. As it stood, while the rest of the month had rushed by, this day was going to as well. She had enough time for this breeding, but had somewhere else to be later, and had even more things she had to wrap up or figure out tonight. Overall, a massive, inconvenient rush. At least her pachee made a gorgeous couple, and she was hoping for some interesting pale offspring- an uncommon color in pachee, as far as she had been able to tell from other peoples’ breeding ventures.

The first pachee she was bringing with her was Hot Ham Water. Fiera liked to call him Ham for short. She had won him in some contest as a participation prize, a bright eyed, bushy tailed award delivered right to her doorstep. She was thrilled to have him, of course- his panilla styled markings were to die for. Stark black and white and cute little eye markings made him an adorable addition to her pachee collection. His personality however, was… a little less to die for. She had learned after a few days of having owned him that he was amazingly lazy. He slept for most of the day (and was in fact sleeping in his carrier at that very moment), and was overwhelmingly difficult to motivate otherwise. The humanish really hoped that his nature wouldn’t be a problem in this breeding. Furthermore, he was also overwhelmingly picky, eating only a few foods, and of the highest quality possible. He cost more than any of her pachee to feed. Fiera sighed to herself- she supposed that was the price of luxury, now wasn’t it? This was his first breeding, and she hoped he wouldn’t be as picky about mating as he was everything else.

It would be a waste of Fiera’s time otherwise. The other pachee she had brought was Faint Impressions, or Faint for short. She had a pearlescent, white coat, with some of the palest green spots that Fiera had ever seen. Faint Impressions had been through one breeding before, though Fiera hadn’t been particularly impressed with the result, though she loved the little creature all the same. She had heard tell, through the grapevine, of rare albino pachee that could be gotten by breeding very light colored ones. Unfortunately, it turned out that Faint wasn’t your average white pachee, and so the baby had turned out like a rather regular looking white male. This breeding would be a lot better, Fiera thought- Faint’s bright green markings and Ham’s stark black and white ones would blend very well. Or so she thought. Fiera supposed anything could happen. That being said, Faint was a good breeder. She was energetic and sassy, and could easily bring even the shyest male out of his shell. With any luck, she’d be able to keep Hot Ham Water from just rolling over and going to sleep as soon as they walked into the breeding center.

Fiera was hoping that this was a good pair to shove together- they seemed compatible enough in personality, but she supposed that anything could happen once they got in the breeding room. Still, they were coming up on the breeding center. She would find out soon enough. The humanish strode over to the door, hoping that the person in front of her would hold it open for her. Unfortunately, they completely ignored her, and Fiera watched as the door slammed shut in her face. She felt her tail prickle and poof up. How rude! She wrestled with the double doors a moment- why the heck couldn’t they install push doors instead of pull? Or make them swing both ways? But no, here she was wrestling with a door while she had no hands to wrestle with. Eventually, she sighed and gave up, stacking Faint’s carrier on top of Ham’s. She heard no movement from Ham as expected, but Faint shifted around in her carrier curiously, watching what Fiera was doing. Finally, Fiera managed to prop open the door, finding a door stop hidden in the corner just inside. Just as she inserted it, someone else swept in from behind her.

“Hey, thanks for holding the door!” They chirped. Fiera took a deep breath, and let the world’s most acidic “You’re welcome!” roll off her tongue. Then, she finally took hold of the carriers again and dragged them inside, letting the corner of her mouth quirk up when she heard the door start to hiss shut, cutting off the sound of someone else going “Oh, wait, hold th-”, following up by the satisfying clatter of the door closing. By the time that person got in, Fiera was already in line for the reception desk, looking so innocent that you might as well slap a halo over her head. She wiggled her fingers through the bars of Faint’s carrier, letting the pachee slap at them playfully, rushing back and forth from one end of the carrier. It was a good idea, she thought, to keep Faint from getting stressed before her appointment. The more calm she was, the faster this would go, hopefully. Despite the noise however, Hot Ham Water showed no signs of stirring. In fact, Fiera was pretty sure she could hear tiny snores coming from his cage. Well, whatever- as long as he wasn’t stressed, that was fine by her.

The line took it’s sweet time in moving. Fiera lashed her tail quietly, but otherwise tried to show as few signs of her irritation as possible, examining her nails or tapping on her phone to pass the time. Crowds weren’t uncommon in the breeding center after all. Breeding pachee and orbaru had become one of The Labs’ most popular past times, and Fiera was no exception. It did mean she had to stand around a lot, however. She checked the time for the third time in ten minutes, as if on queue. At least she wasn’t in any danger of being late to her next appointment. She might as well relax… but she didn’t, of course, because this is Fiera’s we’re talking about here. Even in the middle of a weekday (as Fiera’s job didn’t require consistent hours), this place was somehow still busy. She would be convinced that they were making a fortune… were it not for the fact that breeding services here were completely free. It was just considered one of the amenities of living in the city. Fiera wished that her hometown had included it, certainly- “electric, gas, water, and fuzzy animal babies included in rent price”.

Finally, the line churned Fiera toward the front. She gave the receptionist a polite nod- they had met a couple times by this point, though Fiera had no doubt she didn’t remember the humanish’s face. The breeding center was so popular after all, she must have seen dozens, if not hundreds of people a day, all of whom had their own names, faces, and pets. No, this woman just read the computer and called the numbers. “Fiera Ferella, appointment for twelve pm?” Fiera said encouragingly. “Pachee breeding, between Faint Impressions and… Hot Ham Water?” The receptionist implied, giving that last name a double take. “That’s them!” Fiera said, flourishing with her hands. She happily handed over her ID for a scan. “So uh… what’s the story behind the name?” The receptionist tried. “Hm? Which name?” Fiera said, puzzled. “...You know what, never mind.” The receptionist said, handing the ID back. “You can head on back.” She said, gesturing with her head toward the leftmost doors. “Room number five, forty five minutes on the clock. Have a good time!” Fiera returned the sentiment, and picked up her pet carriers. If the line was long, at least the wait for the room was short.

Fiera trekked down the hall, mumbling the numbers under her breath. "Three, four... ah, here we go!" She said, pushing open the door. THIS one was a push door, at least. She set the two carriers down, taking in the room. Fresh, earthy smells hit her nose, as she gazed at the naturalistic room. Despite appearances however, Fiera knew that it was as fake as the colorful plastic play places of the orbaru breeding rooms. The natural aesthetic was just to make the pachee more comfortable, and to get them in the mood, as it was. Speaking of pachee, she leaned down and popped open her pachees' carriers. Faint Impressions was quick to hop out and take a look around, but of course, Hot Ham Water was still sleeping. Fiera huffed quietly, and prodded the pachee, only to have her finger gently slapped away. She dragged the creature out of his carrier, and set him on the soft, loamy ground in the middle of the breeding area. She sat back and watched, hoping some action would happen. Or any action. Ham was really out like a light, huh. Faint watched him as well for a moment, waiting for any movement... before she took a running leap and landed on him, causing him to puff up in surprise- letting out a cloud of spores at the same time, many of which landed on Faint's head. Fiera cringed. Well, that was one way to do it.

A beautiful blonde boy, a bit paler in some ways than his father.
