She didn't know every creature, but she was sure she would have known if there was a creature with that kind of power down here. She had been born in these mines, had lived out her younger life in these mines before she'd been found by the woman, before she'd been given to Ashe. Brazin felt like Ashe was safe enough, creature wise, but she still didn't like what she was seeing so she followed him, keeping her distance so she didn't get entangled in whatever the heck this was.
Ashe was getting closer, he could feel it. The warm feeling that was just so right was getting stronger. Without letting himself think too much, he just went where the feeling led, over this way then a slight adjustment. Pretty soon, he sensed a wall in front of him. He put his hand on the wall and trailed it over the surface, until he felt a spot that just felt like - there.

And there was where he brought his pick axe down. Over and over, rhythmically, chipping away at the stone, widening a tiny hole and getting closer and closer. Ashe could almost feel... was that purple? Could you feel colors? Or was he just shutting his eyes too tight and he was seeing those weird spots of color now? He just knew he was getting closer to this thing, this thing that he was spending all this time down here for.
As he picked at the wall, Brazin took up a spot next to him. Silly human, in the dark he wouldn't be able to see what he was doing! What if there was something in there that he missed? Good thing she was there, sifting through the shale that fell to the ground, and picking at the wall as pieces fell away, revealing the mines' insides. She didn't see anything yet, but she was a good assistant and wouldn't leave.

Suddenly, something fell onto Brazin's head and almost bounced away into the darkness, but thankfully her reflexes were quicker. She snatched whatever it was out of midair and brought it close to examine it. Judging by feel and smell, it was different than the old dust and dirt Ashe was unearthing. It must be a gem of some sort! She smoothed her hands over it and then held it in one claw, waiting for Ashe to finish before she would abandon him. She didn't want anything of interest to slip between the cracks, after all.
And on Ashe dug, seeking this thing. It must have been buried deep in there, he thought, for him to have felt the signal so weak... Because it was getting stronger and stronger by the second. He hurried, spurred on by the excitement, and soon enough he had a decent sized crevice opened up. And now he was sure there was a purple glow, even in this darkness.

His eyes must be open now to be able to see the purple, but he couldn't tell you when that happened. He didn't remember opening his eyes, and if you've ever been in a pitch black room, you might know how difficult it was to tell the difference, are my eyes open or are my eyes shut? But they were open now and he could finally see what it was he was digging for and what he saw nearly took his breath away. A crystal! A magical crystal, at that. A tainted, something he needed in order to create the node he'd been dying for all this time. How many would this make? Six? And he needed eight. Surely there were more here in the mines, possibly close to this one?
Brazin stared, once the purple glow was revealed. Ah! So that's what Ashe was after. Brazin was great at sensing all kinds of gemstones and fossils and things of interest, not specific things.

Or at least that was what she told herself, silently, because she was feeling almost like a failure. If a gargoyle could ever feel like a failure. She had wanted to get Ashe the riches he wanted, but he wanted these tainted crystals and she had brought him ore and gems? Little did she know, Ashe loved any and all things that she brought him, but right now yes, this was his top most priority. Brazin ended up grabbing another thing that wasn't a rock, she could see it gleam in the light coming from the crystal. She put that in her other claw as well and kept watching.
Ashe almost had the crystal free. He saw various shapes and colors in the rocks that he was chipping away, but his focus was on the crystal and that was it. And just one more twist from the chisel and... It was his! He snatched it and held it up, oogling at it in awe.

He started to pocket it, then he thought better of it. He wanted to show Brazin that this is the most prized thing in all of the mines for him right now. "See this, Braz? This crystal right here. I need about a hundred of them," He told her. A hundred of those, a hundred chaos crystals, maybe fifty water crystals...and Ashe would finally be able to make all the nodes that he wanted. He was going to be a powerful mage someday, and have a large collection of nodes with a purpose. Not the hodgepodge ones he had now. "If you ever find one that glows like this, show me immediately." Brazin nodded, showing that she understood. Glowing purple thing. Got'cha.
As an after thought, Ashe hurried to amend, "I mean, keep mining up gems too. Morte knows I need them, to make stuff and fund my expensive habits..." He laughed to himself.

Okay. He felt better now. He had the magical item that had been calling to him in his possession. He pocketed it to keep it safer than it would be in a crate, and blinked a few times, realizing just how flippin dark it was down here. He reached up and turned the head light on once again, and he felt better with the light on. Earlier it had messed his senses up but now it was welcoming, warm, friendly. But it was in the light now that he realized he had unearthed a treasure trove! Gems were on the ground, and Brazin was holding two in her hand. Whoa, when did that happen? Probably when he wasn't paying attention to anything except the crystal. "Help me with this, will ya?" He knelt and started digging through the dirt. With Brazin's help, he was able to go through the pile of rubble in record time, and save a handful of gems as well.

Crack! BOOM!
Ashe nearly jumped out of his skin. Was that thunder? Please be thunder. But he'd thought the storm had passed! What was it doing making so much noise that he could still hear it this far into the mine shaft? Not that he was really that deep in, not yet, but he hadn't been able to hear anything for a while now so he'd assumed he was out of ear shot. But he obviously wasn't. And something that loud would probably wake Inyala, and he wasn't there for her.
"Keep looking for stuff, Braz. I gotta go get the cart and stuff, get some proper lighting in here too." He stood and dusted himself off, heading back to the tunnel that they had made together. Brazin watched him go, then used her long arms and sharp claws to carefully sift through the dirt and grit. She was good at finding stuff!

Inyala was sitting up, looking a little dazed and confused when Ashe arrived. It was obvious she had just woken up, and had been startled awake by the sound of the thunder at that. When she saw Ashe, she looked relieved, almost as if she had worried that something had happened to her human while she was sleeping and not doing her job. She gave a chirp of greeting and jumped from the crate onto his shoulder, tucking herself under his hair and against the curve of his neck. He smiled and said a few reassuring things to her, such as "It's alright," and "I'm here," and "I didn't go anywhere." He gathered up the light and the rope to lead the crate along.
Meanwhile, Brazin was having great luck. To add to the pile she and Ashe had set up, Brazin had a pretty sparkly star stone, a blue stone, and a chunk if - jasper? she couldn't remember - and she felt like there was something else in the dirt pile so she kept looking. She didn't know why, just a feeling, and she wanted to be as thorough as was possible, to make sure nothing was missed.

Brazin's claws slowly made their way through the dirt, seeking, searching. They clicked against rocks, which she would pick up and look over before tossing away, and then they clicked against a round chunk of something. Though she couldn't see it perfectly in the dark, she could tell that this was something and she had to keep it safe. She added it to the small pile and continued her work. A couple of minutes later, she was certain she had sifted through the dirt pile Ashe had made when he found the crystal. She gathered up the findings and went to the middle of the room, where Ashe had started the pile of other gems. She stood guard over them, waiting for him to return. She didn't have to wait long, she heard the clunking of the cart's wheels as Ashe pulled it along, and the bobbing light became obvious.
Ashe and Inyala entered the new tunnel, and Inyala looked around with wide eyes. So this is what they had been doing while she slept! Wow. She was impressed. Good thing they didn't need her to help them dig, after all. She had better things to do with her hands and needed to keep them nice, able to handle thing if Ashe required a task.

Ashe reached the end of the tunnel and paused. He stepped down himself and tugged the cart to the edge, then he cautioned Inyala to watch out just in case she got jumbled or jostled. He reached up and grasped the cart, gently pulling it forward and slowly lowering it to the ground, supporting it since it was such a large step. It took just about thirty seconds or so and he had it set on the ground, the tools he'd gathered bumping around inside with the gems he'd collected. He pulled it along on its rope and they soon reached the middle of the cavern. There, Ashe discovered the pile of goodies, added to by Brazin. "Good work!" He said to his gargoyle. He offered her a treat, and was surprised when she actually took it. He wasn't quite sure what gargoyles ate, to be honest, as Brazin didn't usually eat around him. Good thing Inyala hadn't eaten all those treats, then.
He opened the cart and Inyala hopped down, going to the gem pile. "Thanks for your help," Ashe told his Imp. The pair of them started dumping the gems into the cart, one by one, while Brazin wandered off to find more.

Ashe took a moment to find a good spot for his cart. He'd come to the center just to collect the goodies, but he didn't feel as secure if he had it stashed there out in the open. What if someone else wandered through and found it? Not that he wanted it hidden, either, but he would just feel better if it wasn't open on all sides, he supposed. So he found a good place along the wall near the dark tunnel, not the one they created, that he soon wanted to explore. He set the cart against the wall and took a few steps away to put the light pole up. He drove it into the ground to keep it standing, in such a way it illuminated the entrance to the tunnel, and if you knew what you were looking for, you could see the cart as well. He just needed a marker, personally. Inyala chirped her happiness at being in the darkness, while also having a light to see. Like Ashe, she preferred the nighttime.
Brazin glanced up, seeing that Ashe had brought the stuff down here and finally set up a base. She waited to see what he was doing, then continued picking at the wall.

She was onto something! She'd just started digging in a random spot that seemed to call to her when she'd happened upon - was that Florite? She wasn't positive on the specifics but it was definitely a gem that Ashe had dug up before and would enjoy again. So she spent the next two minutes digging it free, prying with her claws and working it loose. Once she had it free, she brushed it off and picked as much of the dirt and clinging rock that she could off of it. She wandered over to where Ashe was setting up the cart and, while he was busy, she dropped it off inside. Ashe thanked her, and she could feel the imp's stare as she wandered back to the spot she'd vacated. She had a feeling her job wasn't done yet.
Setting back to work, she dug the hole a bit wider, a bit deeper, and before too long, her claws scraped against something different. This time it was shiny blue - she could see it better now, thanks to the light Ashe had brought in. She got to work on this one too, vaguely aware that Ashe and the Imp had approached and were joining her at her spot on the wall.

Ashe had the pick axe in his hand and was ready to start digging here, too. He wanted to explore the tunnel, but he wouldn't tear Brazin away from finding stuff as long as she was finding stuff and being productive! He didn't want to stay in this cavern forever, though, so maybe she would hurry up and exhaust this area and they could move on? He didn't want to leave her behind... Though maybe he should, if she was finding stuff so much quicker and better than he was able to. Ah, well, he wanted to stay at least for now. With Inyala clinging to his shoulder, he started to pick at the hole Brazin was making. At first, Inyala scrambled and protested at the movement of his shoulder, then she figured out how to brace herself and she was okay.
While Brazin was working the turquoise free, Ashe was finding something of his own. With the addition of the helmet light that he had on his hard hat, they were all better able to see what it was they were digging up and where exactly they were digging, which helped the process for the pair of them. Brazin's claws were able to deftly free the turquoise in no time.
