"One, one!" it parroted back as it licked its lips. Staring at the man, it nodded a little and settled on his shoulder, ready to ride wherever they were going. "What doing?"
[Congratulations, you've tamed the Lacewing!]

It seemed his offer of food had won over the lacewing, if it perching on his shoulder was anything to go by. Fortunately the creature was quite lite, even for his less than impressive physical strength. Nerius let the lacewing hold its pastry, while grabbing another one for himself. It looked like the rosebush.. creature.. thing was coming along too, well, he wasn't complaining.
"I'm looking for chocolate, or anything else interesting," he answered the lacewing; mostly chocolate, but still. He really had no idea if the creature could understand him, it was something he'd have to research after the trip.
Which might be a good idea to end somewhat soon, as Nerius had a suspicion Astrid wouldn't be a big fan of having a new traveling buddy. She was eating for now, and he had no intentions of trying to pull the tailypo away from her meal, but once he was done exploring the kitchen, it would probably be a good idea to start heading back.

There was still quite a bit of kitchen left to explore, and better yet, with plenty of treats to much on while he did so. If Nerius was being honest, he was probably spending more effort looking for snacks, than looking for curiosities. Okay, maybe not so much 'searching for' as 'eating' said treats. With the wide variety of baked goods, and bowels of chocolates and candies, he was doing more eating than anything else. He was starting to get pretty full, but maybe just one more.. or two.. or three.
"HONK"
The tailypo's loud noise finally brought his attention back to the kitten, she was done with her appetizer tray, and was ready to be carried again, rather than jump from counter to counter. Nerius walked over an scooped her up, other hand still holding a large chocolate muffin. She eyed the lacewing suspiciously, as Nerius had thought, she wasn't fond of the new addition. It was best they start heading back, though not in such a rush that he wouldn't grab any curiosities or snacks along the way.
-Nerius and Astrid leave, taking the lacewing, and grabbing any items on the way out.-

May(Unnamed "Red" Sarane) [1] The little red drake that was accompanying Nerius to the Mansion this month didn't yet have a name. He'd only recently obtained the hatchling, but it didn't need to be named to start getting familiar with him. Besides, bringing a dragon along this month seemed fitting, being a celebration of Ariesa. Not that you could soul bind to a sarane. Nerius couldn't imagine anyone would want to either, having an empathic link with Schism was nuisance enough, especially in fight mode.
The species were at least physiologically similar, as how the Mansion was structurally similar to the Canyons this month. Or that was what he'd heard, at least, but as Nerius entered the Mansion grounds, it looked terribly ordinary. Perhaps it was different on the inside? The interior was more often than not something that would be impossible in a non-magical house, but usually the outside at least matched the theme somewhat.

He could explore the grounds first, since he had to go through them anyway, but they were just so normal looking that he'd rather at least see if the rumors about the interior were true. The pathway just looked like something one of the nicer houses on his street would have. If one weren't used to expensive property, it might have been remarkable, but it wasn't a magical dragon cave house.
The drake, which for the sake of ease Nerius was referring to as "Red" until he thought of a better name, found it more interesting than his person did. But the hatchling had never been out of the kennel before, and the sights and sounds and smells were all brand new. He was scampering around as far as the leash would allow, still not fully steady on young legs, only managing to stay focused on one thing for a few seconds before something new would steal his attention.

It was a good thing Nerius didn't plan on doing any training with him today, the Mansion was just too distracting on his first trip out. Nerius had wanted to get the newly hatched drake to have experience with life outside the kennel, and the strangeness of the Mansion would be the place to get him used to new things.
Said 'getting used to new things' meant it took longer to get to the building than it otherwise would have, but it was still early in the day, and Nerius didn't have a strict timetable he was working off of today. So he allowed the hatchling to investigate anything the drake found 'interesting', while keeping an eye out for anything he found interesting. Namely crystals or Mansion curios, but so far he wasn't spotting anything. Perhaps the Mansion wasn't generating its oddities outside this month, or maybe someone else had recently come by.

Whatever the case, Nerius didn't see anything that would have been out of place in wealthy landscaping, and left the rocks and plants alone. Red didn't treat the landscaping with the same respect, and a few times Nerius had to pull him away from chewing on plants that apparently smelled good. Was sarane nip a thing? The hatchling didn't look to be getting high from any of the plants, so he suspected it was just interesting smells.
But if there was one good thing about the hatchling's lack of attention span, it meant he didn't get stuck on one thing for long, and it was easy enough to coax him along the path to find something new. It wasn't the fastest walk to the mansion, but the whelp wasn't as troublesome as other critters had been, and soon enough the pair reached the building. It still looked fully ordinary, even peeing in the windows it looked like a normal entryway.

That wasn't the case as he opened the front door, however. He struggled a bit with the heavy, ornate door, but Nerius managed to get it open, and what was on the other side was not a house. It was a cavern, not a rough hewn mineshaft, but an ornately carved room of stone. The stone was mostly marble, but veined with streaks of gold, and Nerius scooped up the hatchling, who was paused at the door, so he could look around better without having to hold the heavy thing open.
Red squeaked in surprise as he was picked up, but the room soon caught his attention too, and he quit wiggling, looking around with large eyes. Sarane, despite their dragony appearance, weren't usually fixated on the shiny, but the little hatchling had never seen anything remotely like this. Nerius had, but not often, and was still a spectacular cavern even to him.

The room, if it could be called that, was massive, many stories tall, and winding further along than he could see, with many smaller tunnels branching off from the main cavern. The marble was polished to a shine, ornate swirls and detailing covering it from floor to ceiling. It was the sort of masonry that was found in the Canyon, but this much finery would only have been found with the wealthier clans.
There weren't any draconics in the chamber here, to no surprise, and there wasn't a whole lot else either. It was a an entryway, though a grand one, and that was to be expected. It was beautiful, but he wasn't here for just sightseeing, and, still carrying the hatchling, Nerius headed down the cavern, looking down the branching tunnels. So far the walls were all of the same polished marble, and nothing stood out, until he passed one that was glowing.

That one caught his interest, though he couldn't see what was producing the light. It reflected off of the polished walls, but the tunnel twisted so much Nerius couldn't see what was at the end. It was worth exploring, and he split off from the main cavern, and into the side tunnel. It was smaller compared to the grand entryway, but it was still large enough for a draconic to fit through. Well, the largest might not have been comfortable, but would have fit.
The tunnel felt like it was descending, but with the Mansion being what it was, he could reach the end of the tunnel and find himself on the roof! But the floor was slanting, and the floor was quite smooth. Nerius shifted the hatchling to one arm, and steadied himself against the wall with the other. If he'd been on his own, it would have been fine, but if Red decided to try to wiggle away it'd throw off his balance.

He considered putting the whelp down, but it was faster to carry the little critter. He'd set the hatchling down once there was something he could explore, or would at least hold the young drake's interest. The tunnel was empty so far, but the light was getting brighter, and Nerius suspected they were getting closer.
There was still a bit more to go, but he was right in that they were nearing the end, and it wasn't too long before the tunnel opened up into another cavern. It was filled with crystals of all shapes, some resembling natural, some carved, and all quite large. Many went from ceiling to floor, turning the room into a maze of softly glowing crystal. There was a faint thrum of magic to the entire room, but it wasn't as if the room were made of node quality crystal. Though, there might be some good pieces tucked away somewhere.

At this point Nerius decided to set Red down, there'd be plenty to keep the hatchling's attention now, if his wide eyed stare at the crystal formations was anything to go by, and Nerius would rather have his hands at least somewhat free while exploring. He had a sneaking suspicion there would be climbing involved. There was always climbing involved.
At least the crystal formations were mostly dry and flat, it would be more like climbing a steep staircase than scaling a cliff wall. That was something he should probably learn how to do, given how many of his (mis)adventures involved scrambling up something or another. Not that he really had the muscle strength for it. He could sort of get away with it for less steep climbs, but scaling a sheer rock wall required a certain amount of muscle strength. It he were being honest, that was the main reason why he hadn't looked into rock climbing yet.

But right now, the crystal formations were more interesting than hypothetical rocks. Nerius kind of wished he had a way to mark his path, there was no telling how many twists or dead ends there would be in the crystal formations. At least, if nothing else, he could climb on top of one of the larger formations to look for the exit.
Nudging the leashed sarane to follow along with him, Red had been rather fixated on staring at his own reflection in one of the crystals, Nerius headed into the crystal clusters. It was a little disorienting, he had to admit, they were reflective, and translucent, and there were many fuzzy copies of his own reflection. Not that most of them were detailed enough to tell that it was him, specifically, the distant ones were all dark shapes. It made for a much creepier walk than he was anticipating, pretty, but unnerving.

The whole room was filled with the faint hum of magic, but as Nerius navigated the crystalline room, he could sense a slightly stronger pull from deeper within. Not the feel of a raw elemental crystal, or even remnant, but more like magical item. It was oddly hard to tell, the magic of the room made it feel fuzzy and muddled. It wasn't the most pleasant feeling, but it was intriguing, and Nerius attempted to make his way in the direction of the source.
It wasn't a straight shot, he had to wander around the crystal growths, and hope he was going in generally the right direction. It thrum was slowly getting stronger, so it seemed like he was going in the right direction. His journey closer was interrupted when Red suddenly let out a shrill cry of alarm, stumbling backwards in a scramble and doing his best to hide behind Nerius' legs.
