Even still, the outside of the house was decorated well, and the roses lining the path were an unusual color. He'd never seen them in that purple shade before, and he took a moment to get a closer look. Even with his interest in plants, it had started with learning about those with alchemical properties, not flowers. There were a lot of them, but it wasn't like he was going to dig up a rosebush and drag it home. He didn't have a shovel, for one, and it'd be much to heavy to easily transport.
So, with only a short pause to look to investigate the roses, Nerius continued his way up to the mansion. He could have taken longer, the scuta wasn't bothered the slightest by being outside, but hadn't exactly been interested in the rosebushes either. Maybe something in the building would catch her attention, but so far she'd been rather aloof.

The rest of the walk up to the mansion was uneventful, something Nerius didn't take for granted after a certain visit. It also helped he stayed on the main path, and didn't go off wandering around the grounds. Not that the grounds weren't often interesting, but it was easy to get sidetracked exploring the outside, that he hardly had a chance to investigate the insides. But that wasn't the case today, and after a bit of a walk, Nerius and the scuta reached the porch.
More purple flowers decorated the door, but not roses. Lavender, by the looks of them, but Nerius left the wreath alone, though it was a pretty one, with the serpents and bells, and opened the door, and headed inside. The scuta followed without any incident, thanks to the leash, though she did seem a little disappointed to leave the colder outdoors for the more heated mansion interior.

The mansion was very well decorated this month, was Nerius' first impression on entering the building. Some months were more plain, or even run down, but this month the mansion was showing it could clean up real nice. Pretty as the entryway was though, he didn't expect to find a lot this near the door, plenty of people came though, and likely would have grabbed anything interesting already. Then again, he didn't know how the magic that created the items found in the mansion worked, it very well could quickly regenerate items. Or maybe items were only created when people were in close proximity.
Either way, Nerius didn't immediately spot anything in the entryway, and headed down the hallway that branched off the room, the scuta following him. He had to admit she wasn't giving him much to work with in the name idea department, but as least she wasn't causing any problems.

Two little glass roses could be found a little hidden nearby. They aren't too hard to locate, though!

Riptide
[1]
Nerius had never actually seen an ocean, his homeland was thoroughly landlocked, and his mostly sound heading travels to the Labs had never taken him to the edge of the continent. He'd heard the mansion had shifted to celebrate a holiday called Maredian, which apparently paid tribute to the ocean. It was as close to an actual ocean as he was likely to get any time soon, and had decided he wanted to take a trip. If nothing else, the mansion always had interesting finds.
He was dressed more lightly than usual, if Nerius had one complaint about the Labs it was the summer heat, with swim trunks under his pants, and no jacket to be seen. He was also accompanied by a salaves, Nerius had as assortment of water going creatures, but most of them were much to large to easily transport. There really was no convenient way for him to bring a pliathor or lasiobel to the mansion.

But the salaves, Riptide, was small enough to easily transport, and while he wasn't super familiar with Nerius, was still friendly enough. Perhaps his water golem might have been a better choice, but the salaves already seemed to be enjoying it more, giving curious tongue flicks at new objects as they passed. It was mostly driftwood, and the odd rock, sticking out of the sand, but it was new, and Riptide hadn't ever been to the beach before.
Nerius had been to a beach before, but none quite like this, he was used to rockier shore lines, and not so much sand dunes. And the walk to the mansion, though it hardly looked like one this month, was mostly sand, speckled with small pools. They were interesting, and he was sure the interior of the building would be as well, but it was the back grounds that he'd heard were the most spectacular.

Supposedly, the entire thing had been flooded into an underwater... reef? That's what it had been called? It was what he was hoping to see, in any case, and that's where he was heading. Nerius considered passing through the building, just to see what it contained, but with the mansion, there was no guarantee he'd find a door that actually led to the back. Instead, he was going around the side, and already could hear the sound of waves in the distance, though couldn't see anything over the dunes.
Riptide though was distracted a bit by the small pools, there were colorful fish in the one that had caught his eye, and Nerius had to nudge him along to keep the serpent from falling behind. He'd have plenty of opportunities to explore once they reached the "ocean", his breed was designed to be water going, and was already a capable swimmer.

Nerius could swim as well, though in his case it had been a skill he'd picked up after coming to the Labs. He'd also brought an amulet of underwater travel, it didn't get a lot of use outside of a mining safety precaution, but Nerius figured he'd probably want to stay under longer than he could hold his breath. The salaves, well, he wasn't sure, but the critter could likely stay underwater for a few minutes at least.
The sound of the waves was getting closer, and as Nerius and Riptide reached the top of another dune, he was able to see shore. It spanned all the way to the mansion in one direction, and farther than he could see in the other. The water was crystal clear, and even from a distance he could see colorful corals beneath the waves, waving sea grass, and colorful fish darting around. The sand was a pristine white, and scattered with colorful objects that he guessed were shells.

Some of them at least were shells, he was sure at least, though considering the oddities found around the mansion during other months, he wouldn't be surprised at all to find other items scattered across the beach. Only one way to find out! Nerius made his way down the sand dune, they were a nuisance to climb, up or down, but soon enough he reached the water's edge. Not too close though, he was still wearing his shoes and pants, and didn't want either of those to get soaked.
Riptide too was excited to see the water up close, or at least curious, his slithering movements traversing the sand easier than Nerius' walking. He wasn't quite ready to go in, but there were a lot of tongue flicks, and every so often he'd reach closer to the water, only to pull his head back as a wave rolled in, as though startled by the movement.

He could get right in, but there was plenty of beach, and Nerius supposed it wouldn't hurt to explore a little, he didn't have to go for the first area he reached. Choosing to explore in the opposite direction as the mansion, Nerius made sure the salaves was following him, and started walking along the shore. He came across a few broken bits of shells, and small chunks of what he guessed was sea glass, but nothing worth picking up, and after walking a few hundred feet, decided to just pick a spot and jump in.
The area he finally chose was picked for no other reason than that there was a large driftwood log he could set his stuff on top of, instead of dumping it in the sand. It would still get everywhere, he was sure, but at least he wasn't inviting it into his pack. Was there a spell to get rid of sand?

If there was, it probably wasn't a fire aligned spell, which wouldn't do him any good. At least he had the option of running things through the wash a few times, but maybe he was overreacting anyway. Either way, it was different from the shores he was used to, which were either frozen, or rocky.
It was pretty at least, though what was under the water was moreso, and that was where he wanted to explore. First he'd need to put aside his pack, as well as his shoes. He'd come prepared, with swimming trunks under his cloths, and the rest were removed, and put away in the backpack. Other than his swimwear, he also wore his amulet, node, and kept the grey pouch he'd brought to hold anything interesting he might find. Riptide was now staring at him, perhaps surprised to see a humanoid 'shed' his skin as well, but was soon more interested in the backpack.

Is that rushing water you can hear...? The deafening sound becomes unmistakable as a tidal wave sweeps towards you. It's utterly unyielding (and cold, to boot!) and washes you clean off your spot. By the time the water has subsided, you're soaked to the bone - and alone!

Nerius had been fully planning on getting into the water, but apparently he wasn't moving as fast as the mansion would have liked. He had reached the shore, and was considering where to head in, when the massive wave came out of nowhere and struck. It left him utterly soaked, sitting in the sand, and a little disoriented. Did this happen a lot at the beach, or was this one of the mansion's tricks?
Wait, where was his salaves? Riptide had followed him to the water's edge, but Nerius didn't see the serpent anymore. He hadn't been able to see what had happened when he'd been hit by the wave, but it looked like the salaves had gotten washed into the ocean. That wasn't good, though Nerius was glad he'd brought a pet that was naturally aquatically inclined now. He expected Riptide was fine, he just needed to find the missing critter now.

Nerius looked around the shore first, hoping that maybe, Riptide had ended up against one of the larger pieces of driftwood scattered across the sands. But he wasn't seeing the salaves anywhere on land, he was a big blue snake, and there wasn't anywhere he'd be able to fully hide his body. Which meant he was, in fact, most likely in the water, which was unfortunate. It wasn't that Nerius didn't want to go for a swim, especially now, it would just make finding the salaves more difficult.
Well, the sooner he started looking the better, Nerius walked back to the shore, watching carefully for any more rogue waves, and tested the water. It was, somehow much warmer than the wave had been, which was a reasonable temperature, given the sunny day, and shallow water. Nerius waded in, careful not to step on anything, giving a glance around to see if he could immediately spot Riptide.

Nope, nothing. Well, 'nothing' in the salaves department, but there was a large coral reef not too far in front of him. That was a promising place to check, and as colorful and busy as it was, Nerius couldn't immediately tell if his salaves was lurking there or not. This was where he was glad he'd brought his amulet, having to frequently surface for air would be a nuisance in his search.
Nerius waded further out until the water was chest high, then dove down underwater. That first underwater breath was always weird, or at least, he still hadn't gotten totally used to it, but once he was properly submerged, he swam for the reef. A lot of it was coral, he was sure, but there were other wiggly things that his limited aquatic knowledge couldn't identify. He wasn't entirely sure what he should and shouldn't touch, so he decided to keep the poking to a minimum.
