Streamers of orange, purple, black decorated the contest hall, the lights turned down so that both smiling and glowering jack-o-lanterns provided most of the illuminaion. Fake cobwebs stretched across the doorways, and some would even have a small magical spider ready to dangle down into the face of unaware patrons. A carpet of fog covers the floor, hard to tell if it's from a fog machine or magic but it's so dense that walking through it would make one's feet dissappear, and it's impossible to kick out of the way to see what's beneath. Black shadows dance along the walls, some taking shape, but the moment one tries to get a better look, the whisp has vanished. "Happy Vai Min Mur, everybody!" Shayna announced, all too pleased with their wonderful spooky contest hall! She'd even donned a purple gown and witch's hat, decked with some bright orange flowers of course. "I'm happy to announce our annual Vai Min Mur competition - bring out your most shadowy or psychic creatures to show off for the festivities!"

Renathan was at it again, since he did love contests quite a bit, but this time he had difficulty choosing a pet to go for the contest. The contest was the Vai Min Mur one, which was apparently a celebration of all things dark and psychic. Renathan honestly didn't have many pets with this inclination, but luckily for him, he did have one that fit each one of the contests. He went to the desk for the 'Vai Min Mur' contest first, since it was the first one he laid eyes on, while he carried the small Dullahan. He was a strange yumenokei, corporeal instead of ethereal, and pretty weak. However, he was strangely powerful, Renathan had seen him do all kinds of pretty 'scary' things that would fit the Vai Min Mur competition well. He hadn't been trained yet, but with any luck, Renathan would see him do at least a few things, since he would be under pressure, and he tended to panic a tad when there were lots of people around. It made him feel bad, but it was all he could do. He did, after all, only have two pets that fit the season. "Hello, I'm here to enter Dullahan my Yumenokei into the Vai Min Mur competition." He said, a little nervously this time. He shifted the Yumenokei to his off arm so that he could write using the easier hand.
[Renathan is using Sever Bond]

She wasn't trained at all, but that was fine, she was still pretty easy to control as a baby. Alora was a cute little thing she had traded from Renathan, and she was proud of the little Balgor at this point. Smiling to herself, she whistled a little as they waited to register and then finally stepped up to the counter to be put into the contest. Jack put the little baby Balgor on the counter and announced themselves, Alora preening herself a little as she did so, "This is Alora, and I'd like to enter her into the Vai Min Mur contest please!" Smiling still, she stroked the little baby's fur as she spoke, a low, rumbling purr escaping her for the moment as she was petted. Things would be alright, they wouldn't win, but that wasn't the point of contests she believed. At least it was something good to do during time off and all that, and she wasn't sure what else to do with her aside from train right now. That was the main thing, at least.
And the warden sang Come on somebody Why don't you run Ol' Red's itchin' to have a little fun Get my lantern Get my gun Red'll have you treed before the mornin' comes
The creature Ashe had in mind would be impossible to bring in with him to register, though he planned to set up transport with Shayna the day of the contest, as he had before with Alaska. Only this time, it was a smaller pet, and not a giant Pliathor with a collar of bonding. No, he would have to hire a team to sedate, secure, and travel, possibly with a Thundergug, to the Contest Hall. But he could do it.
Right now, though? He had a picture of the pet he wanted to enter, and a few details written down. He hoped that would be enough to satisfy Shayna. Inyala was with him, as usual, but she scurried around on the ground at his feet, careful to stay with him but not get stepped on or get in the way. She gazed around at the other people bringing in pets, taking in the creepy sights and unseen oddities in awe. So Ashe wasn't the only one that liked the weird and creepy pets?
"Hey gorgeous," Ashe said to Shayna upon seeing her. "I'd like to register my Equillion, Jigar, for the Vai Min Mur contest. She's, ah, aquatic, so I wouldn't be able to bring her until the day of or so, if that's alright... But here's her information." He slid the paper with the info written down over to her, and took a form (assuming she didn't protest) to start filling out all proper-like.
There are very few days that Envix decides they feel more male then female, and today seems to be one of them that they’d rather be seen as ‘he’ than ‘she’. She didn’t really mind it, nothing changed in Envix attitude when it happens to be one of those days, the only thing perhaps that might be different is that his voice has just a bit of a darker edge to it then normal when they talk through the ribbon. ‘So this contest, its only about showing off what I know?’ She hears him say as she opens the door of the contest building and letting Envix go inside first in a smooth motion of rolling shadows that act almost like rising waves that crash downwards before she enters as well. Already a line has formed to register their companions for this particular contest. ‘Yep,’ She pops the ‘p’ loudly inside her mind with a grin as she starts heading for the line, knowing she only needs to wait now till it is their turn to register. ‘but don’t worry too much about it Envix. Whether you’d performed well enough or not for this, I’m already happy you decided to go along with doing this in order to as you’ve said ‘end the boredom’ you’ve been feeling since this morning.’ Two tiny slits of glowing green eyes starts to become just a bit bigger as he rises up from his own shadows to his full height in a quick motion, somehow scaring one of the humanish employers working in the building if the long furry tail that is standing on end is any indication while he is holding on to a broom. ‘Sorry’ She mouths to him, as she hears Envix laugh in delight at the sight. Though the shivering of shadows could have one just as well thinking he is convulsing in pain for some odd reason. Rolling her eyes at Envix for taking delight in scaring people, her included at times, she is happy with the distraction when it appears to finally be their turn. “Hello ma’am, I’m here to register my Shadow Lurker Envix for the Vai Min Mur contest.” She waves her hand towards Envix as he slowly seems to calm down, the employer that had visible been showing his surprise at Envix appearance long gone now as he likely does not want to be anywhere near Envix or any other competitor that is likely to do the same thing. She certainly doesn’t blame him for that, she doesn’t exactly like getting the crap scared out of her either.

The spookiest holiday of the year wasn't really Fiera's wheelhouse. Frankly, she didn't really have anything that quite fit this month. Although, when she looked at the other pets that had been entered so far, she decided that perhaps she should give Vai Min Mur a chance. Despite her uncertainty, she was able to dig up at least one pet that fit the bill... though whether or not she'd actually listen to the humanish was another issue entirely. Decima was well known for being one of the most unruly pets in Fiera's kennel, and were it not for the fact that Fiera had recently taught her basic obedience tricks, she'd never consider it. Now that they had gotten to know each other however... maybe things would work out. She didn't have her hopes too high however, as she heard Decima growl behind her as she filled out the registration forms.
No, this was less a 'let's win' month and more of a 'let's not get banned for life from the contest hall' sort of month.
Darky: I may have looked into things before.. x3

Riku: I love it when you walk into a room like "Oh, ye, hear thine wisdom." <3 It never ceases to amaze me.
Jul 3, 2020 4:10:33 GMT -6
Darky: From what I've looked at things over the years, both sides are actually correct: the elements do need some fleshing out, but they are also very much their own types of style/flavour/effect as well. Still, one doesn't have to compromise the other x3
Jul 3, 2020 2:23:22 GMT -6
Riku: I think Morgan's attempt was less of a "do this now plz?" and more of a "Can we simply acknowledge that this is where we eventually want to go?" -shrug- // Congrats to the agility winners! <3
Jul 2, 2020 21:34:18 GMT -6
Riku: For instance, elements can be perceived different than usual. Like Shadow not being evil, or acid being direct and immediate harsh damage rather than a DOT. Things can also get interesting when you mix elements. So imagine a DOT cold move, etc.
Jul 2, 2020 21:33:19 GMT -6
Riku: I also came to the conclusion about every element having the different techs, but like mentioned it would be a massive overhaul so I just didn't mention it. lol I do feel like elements should be more flavor than technique, therefore all having all techs.
Jul 2, 2020 21:30:49 GMT -6
Morgan: I wish I could thumbs-up a cboxpost. /laugh/ If the nerf goes through, they could be made NRS and nerfed down to the other similar moves. But this was just the heart of my first suggestion here, I was hoping to make more as time goes on.
Jul 2, 2020 20:01:13 GMT -6
Haix: We have moves like deluge/harsh gust that cost 7/8 tp, deal 10 fit damage, but lack the NRS modifier that would make them as powerful. Maybe they could be altered slightly to be on a similar level as they have the same cost?
Jul 2, 2020 19:59:20 GMT -6
Morgan: You're right, they're not suited for the only fighting we've ever had on site up to this point.
Jul 2, 2020 19:59:14 GMT -6
Morgan: I agree, but we definitely Do Not Have Those at the moment.
Jul 2, 2020 19:58:55 GMT -6
Aster: Mmm, I dunno if they're not 'good' so much as not really suited for the only type of fighting we have access to, which is one on one. I think the metagame would be pretty different with like, the boss battle type fights Skylark had been workshopping before
Jul 2, 2020 19:58:07 GMT -6
Morgan: I know that curses/poisons are a thing, but there's a reason no one uses those. They aren't technically... Good. (Not with fltnrs10 around. While someone is trying to drain the person's stuff, which doesn't work with hardy anyway, the fltnrs10 kills.)
Jul 2, 2020 19:54:14 GMT -6
Morgan: And if it isn't overpowered for one element to have the tech, then it shouldn't be for others (obvious exception is physical) because the same rules go for all resistances/immunities save for physical. Nothing was meant to be resistant to every element.
Jul 2, 2020 19:51:51 GMT -6
Morgan: Doing it in pieces would be best, because other than spirit's little blurbs (which we've changed other things before for the good of the site) the elements aren't really set in stone with tech choices. Moves were added fairly often before.
Jul 2, 2020 19:49:01 GMT -6
Morgan: I know, but I've been suggesting it for... Quite some time.
Jul 2, 2020 19:47:55 GMT -6
Aster: That would be a pretty big rehaul of the current movepool P:
Jul 2, 2020 19:47:35 GMT -6
Morgan: I personally don't think that the elements matter, IE: I think every element should have all tech choices.
Jul 2, 2020 19:47:00 GMT -6
Aster: And 7 STA is still a pretty significant threshold. Definitely not as much as 10, but
Jul 2, 2020 19:45:13 GMT -6
Aster: Ehhh I still feel like NRS big-damage moves should stay in a few elements. Otherwise it'd kind of be taking away from Fire/Ice/Elec without giving anything to them that other elements have (ie a persistent DOT, or more crowd control for Fire/Ice)
Jul 2, 2020 19:44:52 GMT -6
Aster: Would Balefire and Call Lightning be on the docket for nerfing too?
