Ingrid picked up one of the plastic balls and allowed it to drop to the floor. It bounced rather high for the short distance she had dropped it. She tilted her head as she watched the ball bounce, pouncing forward and catching it under her paws once the temptation proved to be too much. Fanged in the meantime searched through the rest of the cupboards. There was an assortment of strange looking eggs, but they were quite different to the ones she had been finding around the mansion. Inside the kitchen were also a few pocketpets and some lanterns. She decided to gather up as much stuff as she could and placed it all inside her backpack. Fanged went back to the fridge and grabbed a can of soda. She popped the tab open and took a swig. As she drank, she caught a glimpse of something in the corner of her eye.

There was a strange shadow that flittered in the corner of the room looking rather out of place. Ingrid regarded it warily, which caused Fanged to pause for a moment. If they could both see it, then it was likely something of importance. She had grown accustomed to the supernatural occurrences within the mansion and knew better than to ignore them. Sometimes when you did, bad things could catch you unaware. She shuddered at some of the things she had encountered in the mansion during the month of October. She moved closer to the shadow to get a better look. It appeared to be the ghost of a young girl floating in the air. She had long blonde hair and was wearing a white dress. She looked at Fanged with a haunted expression before disappearing.
“Well, that was weird,” Fanged remarked. Ingrid appeared to agree, her tails wagging back and forth in discontentment.

They continued to explore the kitchen for a little longer until Fanged finally grew tired of it. She glanced around for the door and quickly spotted in on the far wall. She led Ingrid towards and quickly pulled it open. The duo then stepped through into the new room. The new room was a library. There were rows upon rows of bookshelves that stretched from one end of the room to the other. Ingrid jumped onto a nearby chair and began to climb up to the top shelf.
“Be careful up there,” Fanged called to her.
Ingrid lashed her tails in annoyance and continued her ascent. Fanged rolled her eyes and took the time to look around the library. There were many scientific journals located on the shelves and she picked up one out of curiosity. It detailed avian anatomy, which Fanged only knew the basics about. She wasn’t really a science expert.

April The layout change of the mansion every time they entered a new month was always jarring to Fanged. The library around them warped, the bookshelves growing longer and difficult to reach and the walls warping so that they were curved. Ingrid watched the changes with alarm, not pleased with the drastic alteration of their environment. She jumped down from the chair and ran over to Fanged, her ears perked up and her tail wagging. Fanged sighed and leaned down to comfort the Malii. Once the room had settled into its new form, Ingrid didn’t look quite as startled. She jumped back onto the chair she had abandoned, noting that it was now larger than it had been before. She then resumed her efforts of trying to climb up to the bookshelves. Fanged stood in front of the shelves, examining the titles on the spines of the books. She saw several books about mythology and folklore, including stories about vampires and werewolves. Fanged wasn’t sure if she’d have time to read any of the books, but perhaps she could make an exception for one that was really interesting. Ingrid reached up with her paws and managed to make contact with a shelf. She scrabbled with her paws until she managed to grab purchase and then she hauled herself up. Ingrid reached out and knocked a book from the shelf. Fanged grabbed it before it could hit the floor. She didn’t want anything interesting to be damaged. She flipped the book over and read the title.
“60 poisonous plants and how to identify them,” she muttered under her breath.
It seemed like a helpful book, but not one that would make a particularly thrilling read. She flipped through the pages, but a lot of it simply contained knowledge that she already knew. She shrugged and placed the book back on the shelf, but away from Ingrid.

The Malii seemed indignant that Fanged hadn’t placed the book closer to her. She flicked her tails from side to side before knocking another book free from the shelf. Fanged rolled her eyes and went to grab the book. The title appeared uninteresting and she sighed as she placed the book back on the shelf. Ingrid gave her a look of annoyance.
“Well, if you’re going to be like that, let’s go explore some more,” she told the Malii.
She picked up the young pet and placed her back on the ground as she moved to scout the rest of the library. Most of the books didn’t spark interest in her. There was one labeled “How to Become a Vampire” that seemed intriguing, but Fanged presumed it to be fiction. She and Ingrid moved past the rows of bookshelves before reaching a closed door. She tentatively held out a hand and turned the doorknob.

It was locked. It seemed they weren’t about to leave this room anytime soon.
"Hmm I don’t know where to start looking for a key," Fanged whispered to Ingrid.
Ingrid looked around and pointed to the other side of the room with her tails. Fanged didn’t have any better ideas so she followed the Malii as she led her across the room. The edge of the library was more extravagent than Fanged would have first presumed. She'd expected to find a wall of bookshelves. Instead, the wall was filled with stain-glass windows. The sun was shining brightly through the glass, making the room bright. Ingrid jumped up onto a bench by the window and watched the gardens outside. Fanged wondered if she should take the Malii outside to explore, but first she’d need to find the key and exit this room. She scanned the window panes, trying to figure out if the colours would give her a clue.

The first pane of glass had a pattern of gold and white stripes. The second was covered in blue and green circles. Fanged couldn't tell what pattern the third pane was trying to depict, it appeared as though the colours blended together to make one muddy mess. It didn’t appear as though sunlight could properly pass through it. That seemed like the one that might be important. Fanged approached it with caution. She slipped her hoodie over her shoulders and wrapped it around her arm. She then pulled her arm back and punched her protected elbow through the glass. It shattered, though thankfully the glass breaking was quite contained. Ingrid watched with interest as Fanged punched the remaining glass away. She then reached into the window, not surprised that there was a solid compartment built into the pane of glass she had broken and fished out a key. She then beamed at Ingrid.

“Now let’s go back to the door, I suspect this key should open it,” Fanged remarked.
Ingrid watched her intently for a moment before jumping back down from the bench. She allowed Fanged to move closer to the door before she began to follow. Fanged quickly slotted the key into the lock and turned it until it made a clicking sound. The door then swung open and the duo stepped through it. The door surprisingly led to an outdoor balcony that overlooked the garden. The morning was sunny and the sun had a sharp heat to it. It was going to be a hot day today. Ingrid was pleased to be outside. She basked in the sun for a moment, letting the heat warm her fur. The balcony had a set of stairs that led down into the garden if they wanted to explore. When Ingrid noticed them, she darted down them.

Fanged followed after her, wondering where she was going. As soon as Ingrid reached the bottom of the steps, she stopped dead in her tracks. Her tails twitched back and forth nervously. Fanged saw a dark figure standing in the garden, dressed in a dark grey suit. Deciding to be brave for Ingrid’s sake, she made a move to approach it. Once she drew closer, it became evident that the figure was a scarecrow with a strange misshapen head stuffed with straw and straw poking out of the fabric of each of its appendages. It was a poorly crafted specimen, but if it scared away birds then Fanged supposed it would have done its job just right. Ingrid took a step back, not quite trusting it to stay motionless. Fanged lifted one hand and decided to test and see if it would do something dangerous. On second glance, she could see some fireworks located at its base.
