“I’ve heard that touch is good for little ones,” Fanged murmured, taking a moment to stroke Heather on the top of her head. “I wonder how attachment theory works with beings that don’t have parents. I suppose without pregnancy than you would be wired to attach yourself to me.”
The thought made her feel a bit guilty. She didn’t think she had much of a maternal instinct. She tended to be a loner and only recently had she grown accustomed to having her pets around. She knew theoretically how to raise a baby creature, but it would put her out of her comfort zone a bit. If she raised her pets with love, then she was ahead of most parents.
“How about we figure out what sorts of things you like to do?”
The mansion might have dangerous magic present, but Fanged couldn’t help but feel comfortable even despite the potential dangers.

March Fanged wasn’t a fan of being in the mansion when the month was over. The magic was strange and it made her lose track of time. There was no way of knowing how long she and Heather had been here. The Pasha-Sarane seemed more at ease with the situation than she was. “Guess we have no choice but to explore,” she murmured. Heather glanced up at the woman as she spoke, prepared to move forward with her. The two entered a new room. Fanged was on edge, still disoriented from the switch to a new theme. From what she could tell, the mansion swung towards a spring theme. The room they entered had grass underfoot instead of a traditional floor. The room didn’t appear dangerous, but the serenity could certainly still be a trap. “Make sure you’re careful,” she told Heather. Heather didn’t appear to heed her warning. The creature was curious and wanted to explore the room. (Heather 1 1/5, 8 1/5) 1

The room itself seemed to be more garden than room. The wall was painted a pretty sky blue and with the grass flooring, it certainly created the illusion of being outside. On closer inspection, the grass in the room was fake. She leaned down and ran her fingers across it, conclusively deciding that it was made of synthetic material. The whole thing gave her a bit of an eerie feeling, but determination quickly set in. If she was stuck here, then she might as well make the most of it. The mansion always had a promising set of items to be collected.
“I give you full permission to explore,” she told Heather.
She knew the Pasha was already in the middle of exploring, but giving her permission made her feel more in control of the situation. There were an assortment of plants that increased the garden aesthetic of the room.

For a moment, she wished that Heather had been trained before Fanged had taken her to the mansion, but the whole point was for the two of them to spend time together. But there was the risk that the plants were poisonous and that Heather would eat them. Fanged would need to check them closely to ensure her pet’s safety. Heather followed her as she stepped closer to the nearest plant. She leaned down, staring intently at the leaves as she tried to identify what it was. Of course, Fanged didn’t have the necessary knowledge to know what plant it was exactly, but she hoped she would be able to tell if it were poisonous or not. Heather watched her intently as she investigated. From what she knew, poisonous plants tended to have some kind of tell. However, Fanged’s knowledge was limited to basically identifying poison ivy by sight. She couldn’t tell what these ones were.

“I guess the solution here is to simply make sure you don’t eat the plants,” she teased Heather.
She didn’t think the Pasha would be inclined to listen to her that well. They had only known each other a short time after all. The best idea might be to take the creature into a different room all together.
“That seems like a better solution,” she concluded.
Heather was easy enough to guide over towards the door. She didn’t seem to mind touch and Fanged would use that to her advantage. Rusty had been more wary of her at first, but Heather seemed more inclined to like her. She supposed that was the difference between rescuing a spooked halfbreed and buying a specially ordered critter.
“I suppose you haven’t seen enough of the world to know the horrors that exist within it.”
The thought was a little melancholic, but it was also a hopeful one.

She opened the door, keeping one hand on Heather as the two of them stepped through. The new room was more normal looking than the last one had been. This one had bright pink carpeting and was actually filled with an assortment of regular looking furniture.
“So far so good,” she murmured.
The room seemed designed like a living room. There were couches pressed against the walls and a coffee table centered between them. On top of the coffee table was a plastic tea set, making the room appear rather childish. Heather took the time to investigate the other side of the room. A quick glance from Fanged informed her of a variety of toys that were scattered across the floor. Fanged didn’t have much of an interest in the toys, but they had grabbed Heather’s attention. She stood close and pawed at the pile of toys, managing to roll a ball free.

The room is bright pink and childish, but other than the toys it's... a little plain, isn't it?

The rest of the room seemed to be void of anything of practical use. Heather was distracted with the pile of toys, but Fanged was more focused on examining the rest of the room. However, it was completely filled with things that only a child would appreciate. It was enough to amuse Heather, but Fanged was quite particular about that stuff. She had a few toys that she kept around, but they were sentimental and of high quality. These were plastic nonsense that made her feel a bit snobby to dislike.
“As long as you’re happy,” she smiled at Heather.
She felt a little uneasy around her new creature. An awkwardness that would only go away once they got to know each other better. She didn’t grasp her Pasha’s personality yet and they were still in the stages of figuring out one another. Fanged had a bit of difficulty when her pet was a bit more standoffish.

She decided to take the initiative and moved closer to Heather. The Pasha was still sifting through the toys, but she seemed to have preference for the ball that she had pulled out earlier. Fanged stepped closer and picked up the ball, studying it in her hand. She squeezed it once, mildly surprised when it squeaked. The sudden sound drew Heather’s attention to her. The Pasha approached a little warily, but she was intrigued by the ball. Fanged leaned down and rolled it gently towards her.
“Do you like to play?” she asked the baby pet.
Heather followed the ball, moving slower than someone like Rusty or Dream would. But her relaxed pace made her unique and Fanged appreciated that. When the Pasha reached the ball, she nudged at it, making it roll without the help of her owner. The action was endearing and she felt herself grow more attached to the Pasha.

It seemed clear that Heather only had interest in the ball. She had no easy way to carry it, so Fanged decided to hold onto it for her. The Pasha looked relieved when the woman took it with them. With that out of the way, they were free to go to the next room. Luckily, it was close by and wasn’t locked.
“Hopefully this next room will be a bit more interesting,” she commented.
Heather was looking a little more excited about exploring the mansion. She was slowly growing used to the new area and that served to make Fanged feel more secure in bringing her. She opened the door with confidence, stepping through and then waiting for Heather to follow her. The Pasha stumbled through, still a little unsteady on her feet. It was sometimes difficult to remember that she owned pets that were babies and she needed to treat them a little more carefully.

When they were both securely in the next room, Fanged leaned down and placed a comforting hand on the top of Heather’s head. The creature let out a contented sigh and the touch had the added bonus of getting the Pasha used to her. They spent a few moments like this, taking the time to get used to one another. When both felt comfortable, Fanged drew back to examine the room.
“Looks similar to the last one, but looks can be deceiving.”
The carpet was pastel blue and she figured that the pastel colours would be typical in the mansion this month. The colours were soothing, but Fanged found them to be a little plain when they weren’t complemented with more interesting pieces of furniture. In this room, the furniture was wooden and painted a variety of blocky colours. The colours clashed, but Fanged didn’t think they looked outright terrible.

She stepped closer to a chest of drawers and tested one, seeing if it would open. A quick burst of delight filled her body as she realized that they opened with ease. Heather looked at her with curiosity, not quite sure what the woman was doing. She moved closer, watching with interest as Fanged began to open more drawers.
“You never know what might be hidden away in something like this,” Fanged remarked.
If Heather were to grow up to be a mount that she used, the Pasha would need to learn Fanged’s methods. The woman had a certain way about doing things and the creatures she worked closely with would need to be taught to understand her. This of course would take experience which Heather was getting now. She slowed her movements a bit so that the Pasha could follow her actions with ease. With any luck, they would find something of interest.

One of the first few drawers she opened contained an abundance of things. There were two pink lanterns that lit up a strange, wooden toy. She collected all the items, figuring that she could pawn them off if she didn’t end up keeping them. Heather appeared distracted by something else and when Fanged turned to look, she was surprised to see a little raincloud floating in the room.
“Ah! That must be a pocketpet. The little creatures seem a little stranger than the regular lab created critters,” she remarked.
It was simple enough to catch, but it would be a little difficult to store. Fanged decided to put it away with her stuff as usual, figuring she could dry everything that the raincloud came into contact with later. With that taken care of, she had free reign to continue looking through the drawers. Fanged felt pretty sure she had found everything in this room already, however.
