“Seems like we should leave, but we’ll check through everything just to be thorough,” she told Heather.
The Pasha was content to take a break for a while. She got tired easily, still being rather young. For a moment, Fanged wondered if she should allow the creature to sleep for a while. If Heather decided to sleep, she would allow her. But for now, the Pasha seemed alright to continue on for a while. Fanged checked the rest of the drawers, unsurprised when there was nothing left to find.
“Alright, now we can leave with assurance that we haven’t missed anything,” she said.
She felt a bit wary as she led Heather over towards the door. She made sure to go through first again, ensuring that she would be able to face any danger herself if need be. But the mansion was quiet for now with no sounds of any other life.

Heather was learning their mansion system, following Fanged diligently as the woman stepped into the new room. This one thematically looked similar to the others, but it had an atmosphere that felt strange to her.
“I don’t think it’s dangerous. But it certainly feels odd,” she murmured.
The room was filled with an assortment of furniture that she could dig through. The furniture didn’t fit the room particularly well. It looked as if it had been dumped in this room without care. There was no rhyme or reason to what was present in the room. Heather eagerly trotted over to a pile of boxes, knocking them over with a gleam of amusement in her eyes. Fanged felt the Pasha wanted to be a bit destructive, which was behaviour that she should normally discourage. But this wasn’t her house and Fanged didn’t have time to train her at the moment. Not that she would listen anyway.

She leaned closer to investigate the boxes that Heather had knocked over. She frowned when she realized that the top one was filled with plastic eggs.
“I think children hunt these down, but I’ve never done anything like that before. It never really interested me,” she remarked.
Heather listened intently, trying to commit the cadence of Fanged’s words to memory. Figuring out how the woman reacted to different situations would be necessary if they were to work as a team. It was a steady growing partnership, but their bond would be solidified with time.
“I wonder if there’s anything in these. Usually their filled with candy or small toys, but the mansion might have something different up its sleeve.”
She shook an egg, feeling disappointed when it was evident that it was empty. She placed the box to the side, moving onto the next one before she could dwell too much on her feelings.

The next box of items worked well to grab her attention. Heather trotted closer, wanting to investigate the box as well. Fanged lowered the box so they could look through it together. This box contained things that were a bit more obscure. It appeared to be supplies that would build some sort of mechanism. Fanged wasn’t skilled enough with mechanics to understand what it was exactly, but she could still speculate. She picked up the various pieces and lay them out side by side.
“I think this part is a lever. And that part is definitely a gear. I wonder what would happen if I could assemble this together.”
Of course, wanting to build the contraption and knowing how to do it were entirely different concepts. For now, she could only leave the box to the side and look through the rest of the items in this room. Maybe she could find an instruction manual or something else to help.

The prettiest hummingbird flutters around a lantern. That's not a flower, silly hummingbird!

She found no instruction manual, but there was another one of those strange lanterns. From what she had theorized, the mansion considered objects like that to be a form of currency. They were also worth a certain value to the right person. For now, Fanged would collect them, figuring out what to do with them exactly later. Beyond that, there was another pocketpet. This one was a little hummingbird and a lot easier to deal with than the raincloud had been. With both of those things out of the way, she could refocus her attention back onto Heather.
“How are you holding up?” she asked the Pasha.
Heather whinnied back to her, suddenly feeling vocal. From what Fanged had read, Pasha tended to vocalize less as adults. For now, Fanged would enjoy this stage while it lasted. There was no predicting how long it took creatures to grow up, it seemed to vary by quite a bit.

Heather was steadily growing to be a little more adventurous. She thought overall the Pasha would remain a fairly cautious critter, but her growing more comfortable in the mansion was a good sign. If she could steadily grow Heather’s confidence, that would certainly bode well for the future.
“I guess that sort of thing only comes with experience. It’ll be a good idea to explore more rooms in the mansion in that case.”
She would start by tearing this room apart in search of treasure. The prospect made her feel quite giddy. She was normally fairly concerned with cleanliness, so not having to worry about any mess she created would be a relief. Heather followed her as she moved closer to the furniture. She began to dismantle pieces if they proved to have parts that could be removed. She checked inside the larger pieces for any hidden compartments. It took a while, but she eventually found one.

She gleefully removed the hidden compartment, mildly surprised when her fingers met with paper instead of hidden treasure. Fanged was not one to be disappointed in finding something interesting to read. She pulled the papers out quickly and laid them out side by side for further examination.
“There’s quite a few documents here. Too bad you can’t read. If you could, then you would have been able to help me out,” she joked.
While Fanged was distracted with the documents, Heather took this time to rest. She settled in next to the woman, curling up closer so that their sides were touching. The sudden touch was unexpected, but it wasn’t unwelcome. She scanned the documents, sorting through them in order of most interesting to least interesting. From what she could tell, the files weren’t connected to one another. Therefore, there wasn’t a particular order for her to follow. She continued reading.

Once she had sorted out all the files, she turned back to read the ones that had jumped out at her. Heather remained pressed against her side, nudging Fanged’s left hand when it was momentarily empty of files. The woman offered her companion some light scratches then switched to lightly stroking her scales. The feeling was a bit odd, but Fanged quickly grew used to it. From the information provided on Pasha-Sarane, it would be necessary for her to polish Heather’s scales on a regular basis. She would need to head to the store after this and make sure she was stocked up on the stuff. But that could wait for now. There was no need for her to rush out of the mansion. Heather was perfectly content to continue on and that was enough to reassure Fanged that bringing her here hadn’t been a mistake. She allowed herself to be content for a moment.

After enough time spent resting, Heather began to grow fidgety. Fanged placed the files she had been reading away in her bag. She could get back to them later. For now, she needed to keep her companion entertained. In order to best do that, Fanged decided they would head into the next room. This one didn’t appear to have anything left to show them and that was good indication that it was time to move on.
“Stick close,” she told Heather.
While the Pasha wasn’t trained, it was still a good idea to get her used to hearing Fanged’s language. Common was true to its name, but that didn’t mean her pets would automatically pick up on it. In the future, she would also train Heather to understand command words, but regular speech could lay the foundation for that. She carefully opened the door, stepping through and then waiting for Heather to follow.

The first thing that caught her eye when she entered the room was the bright, blue lantern. She headed straight for it, quickly scanning the room for any obvious signs of danger. Heather trotted alongside her. The Pasha was growing more attached to her owner and was now happy to be close to her as they traversed the mansion. There was another pocketpet in this room. This time it was a rabbit and a bit tricky to catch. It took her a few tries, but she finally managed to grab it and place it with the rest of her things.
“Phew. I hope we don’t find too many of those. If we do, I’ll be dead on my feet!”
Heather nickered in response. Fanged took delight in the sound, glad that she was hearing some of the rare vocalizations that the species made in infancy. It made her feel rather special.

There was a third object in the room besides the pocketpet and the lantern. She tentatively stepped closer to it a bit concerned over what it was. Heather watched her intently as she picked up the new object. From what she could tell, it appeared to be a staff of some sort. Fanged had read about magical objects before, but this one felt void of any magic. She figured that made it harmless, but one could never be too careful in these situations.
“Guess I’ll put this with the rest of the stuff we’ve found.”
It was a bit difficult to fit a staff in with her things, but Fanged managed it eventually. When she was finished, she gave Heather a pat on the back in celebration. It was a little silly, but the entire act had left her feeling a little proud of herself.
“At least you don’t judge me,” she laughed.

The rest of the room was ready to be explored. Fanged hadn’t had a good chance to take a close look at it. Her attention had been focused solely on the objects that she could collect. Now that she had the opportunity to get a good look, she couldn’t help but feel on edge once again.
“This mansion seems like it’s more catered towards children than it is me. It makes me feel uneasy,” she remarked.
Heather leaned in closer, nudging the woman as she spoke. Fanged gave her a grateful smile and placed her hand against Heather’s back. This adventure was doing a good job at bonding the two of them together at the very least.
“Maybe after this I should hit up the quest board. Since what I need in my life is more excitement,” she joked.
She could always pick a simple quest as well, but she seldom had the chance.

“That’ll be a bridge to cross when I get there. I doubt you’ll be up for another adventure for quite a while after we finish this, so I’ll pick another pet to go with me.”
She constantly had to remind herself that Heather was still young. She was used to Rusty’s endless energy and Voxel’s steady companionship. She had raised another couple baby pets, but they had been born a little while before she had gotten them. Heather was the first that she had obtained from creation. It felt a bit different.
“I wonder how big you’ll get. It didn’t seem like the Pasha-Sarane guide I picked up had that information.”
It would be interesting to see. She wasn’t someone that was particularly scientific, but she did have an interest in a few subjects within science. Psychology of course was always relevant to investigations and that tied back to biology.
