The Favorite Companion
Scarlet (Scawr-leht) Scarlet was born of the couple Genesis and Revelation. She is slightly larger than her brother, Cameron, and much more powerful. She has her mother's beauty and grace, and her father's intense magic - taking the role of "master's favorite" away from him.
She began training at a young age and quickly grew very attached to Riku, just as he did with her. She has slept in his bed next to him since the day she was born, and has a permanent spot in his room. A daily part of his life, she eventually fell in love with the human while all of her peers reached maturity and mated with each other. She was not ashamed of their bond - but quite proud and vocal about it. Her relationship with the others was more of a self-imposed leadership over a very unwilling crowd. The role of 'Alpha' was not exactly attained.
| Breed: Child of Light Malii Cunning: 4 Beast Top Speed: 40 mph, 60 mph (flying) Special Requirements: Loyalty 10 Size: Large Cougar, 3 ft. at Shoulder Power Levels: 4 Gender: Female Loyalty: 46 | Level: 41
Stamina: 3 Strength: 4 Resistance: 2 Dexterity: 5 Mentality: 6 Special Abilities: Light Immunity, Shadow Weakness, Fly, Enigmatic, Accept Blood, Tolerance Moves: Horn-Strike, Bite, Gash, Heal, Sun Spot, (Holy Shield, Sun From The Heavens) |
More recently, Riku halted training after a tournament went quickly morbid. He loved her too much to see her get hurt in any way - even though she was very willing. He pulled her out of the match early and forfeited the entire season's tournament. Since then, they've began to drift apart. Scarlet resents him for putting her training in vain, and Riku has been busy searching for magical crystals in the mines without her since she refuses to get dirty. However, she doesn't really mind the dirt. It's that she used to be his big project. Now magic is. Her magic used to be good enough. Now it isn't.
She went from "Daddy's little angel" to more of "Riku's evil step-sister". Always the role-model, and suddenly the family rebel. Overly prideful, incredibly lazy. Blatantly rude to strangers and family alike. Better than everyone - and even more vocal about it...even though she hasn't kept up with her training and knows she could easily lose a fight if her constant taunting finally triggered one. She just wants to be loved again like she should've been all along. He made a vow to her - he didn't know it, but he did! When he chose her from the beginning, he was telling her that it was just the two of them until the end. Nothing could get between them....until he did. He chose to love her too much, and she hated him for it! And she hated the fact that she couldn't hate him enough to stop loving him....especially since deep down she knows that even if they fix things, they'll never be together the way she wants. The way she pretends they already are inside.
It just hurts to be so full of potential in so many ways, and then just.....stopped. |

The Warrior Companion Archarelion are mythical creatures native to Riku's home kingdom of Aulador. The story goes that a hero with an epic destiny will encounter a noble Archarelion on its own journey to destroy the darkness. The hero cannot complete their mission alone, and the Archarelion cannot destroy the darkness until it is clever enough to outsmart it. They make a deal: If the hero can find a way to make the creature fully sentient, the Archarelion will fight alongside them on the hero's journey.
Riku discovered Uriel, who was self-named, when he had decided to visit the remains of the destroyed Aulador. To his surprise, the entire kingdom was gone - the ashes and rubble, that is. Instead it was nothing but untouched land. In this land, he met the frustrated Archarelion, who was on the trail of some force of darkness. Unforeseeably, the long-awaited growth came with a price. When Uriel became sentient, it woke another part of his soul, which had laid dormant in his craftedly-limited form. He found that he was the darkness all along... | Breed: Archarelion Cunning: 4 Beast Top Speed: 35 mph, 60 mph (flying) Special Requirements: Loyalty 10 (to respect) Size: Large lion Power Levels: 5 Gender: Male Loyalty: 5 | Level: 0
Stamina: 5 Strength: 5 Resistance: 4 Dexterity: 6 Mentality: 4 Special Abilities: Shadow Resistance, Survival Instincts, Loosen Fur, Magical, Fly Moves: Holy Shield, Holy Fury, Cure, Spectral Bite, Sonic Blast, Phase Out, Shadow Meld, Shadow Strike
Soon to have: Collar of Speech, Growth Potion |
| Biology: A wary eye must always be kept open, for ever will darkness seek to creep into the world. And should it find its way here, light must always be ready to meet it head on.
There are not many creatures with a radiant single-mindedness towards a specific goal, but the ones who are, tend to be a force to be reckoned with. By stature these half-breeds may seem smaller than one would anticipate (though still larger than their malii parentage) but with an air and an aura of imposing nature sure to truly portray the majesty within. A greater infusion of the arcane has provided them with ample tools with which to hunt various beasts of shadow, to the point one could almost assume such prey are a part of their natural feeding habits (though fortunately they are just as content to eat regular carnivorous meals as well). In this there's a duality - these creatures can provide excellent prowess in both harrowing shadows as well as providing protection from them, seeking to guard those weaker than them.
|
While not understanding a concept of nobility as such, as, after all, they do still come shy of true sentient thought, their behaviour may make it appear that way. Even so, feeling as though they're a head above many others in simple devotion, it can be a difficult task to gain their attention much less their trust. They can and readily will defend those weaker than them, but tend to likewise ignore any direction from such beings, caught in their determination to fight. It takes a patient and a perceptive owner to learn how best to shine within their minds, regardless of one's own innate strength. Owners who achieve that level can discover that their words begin to have impact, their suggestion becoming command, and perhaps the need to protect is less out of deep innate instinct and more out of active choice. |

The Mining Companions | | Echo (Eh-koh) | Aslan (Ahz-lahn) |
Breed: Lurking Strife Cunning: 5 Sentient Top Speed: 20 mph, 30 mph (flying) Size: Small child Power Levels: 2 Gender: Female Loyalty: 11 | Level: 8
Stamina: 2 Strength: 1 Resistance: 2 Dexterity: 4 Mentality: 1 Special Abilities: Mechanical Mind, Gleam, Fly, Mimic Moves: Light Spear, Shadow Strike, Vanish | Breed: Lionheart Cunning: 4 Beast Top Speed: 30 mph Size: Large dog Power Levels: 3 Gender: Male Loyalty: 5 | Level: 0
Stamina: 2 Strength: 3 Resistance: 3 Dexterity: 4 Mentality: 3 Special Abilities: Thick Fur, Opposable Thumbs, Light Resistance, Psychic Resistance Moves: Climb, Mimic, Intangible Body, Foxfire, Nether Claw | Biology: Out there, where skies shine, humanoids say: 'To thyself be true.' Down below, the familiars say: 'Be true to yourself and to hell with the world.' These shadow-light clad and diamond-shelled half-breeds find themselves stuck deciding between the two, dipping back and forth between self-preservation and self-sacrifice, a choice made all the more difficult when swaying the favours and opinions of others comes so simple.
They are not large and by no means sturdy in build, despite the gemstone plating they bear in place of armour, which would explain why entities such as themselves would choose to opt for self-preservation, a necessity, rather than merely a conscious decision. Still, for all they seem frail, they've tricks up their diamond-covered sleeves that can make them anything but easy prey.
These half-breeds seek company, whether that be an adopted colony of mining familiars or that of humanoid owners, and whichever they end up choosing they will learn the voices and sounds of in time, in order to communicate with the collective. When finally settled in a place they could call their own, they shall sooner opt to protect it than abandon, becoming flickering figments of vision, darting and bending light and shadow to nip at opponents much larger than themselves in swift movements, before retreating out of harm's way. To the humanoids they might seem like intelligent children, but to a pack of familiars and other tunnel-dwellers, their brilliant, unbent minds could make them truly queen.
| Biology: Cats are prideful at the best of times and most felines, regardless of shape and size, seem to have within them almost a genetic memory of once having been gods. This kind of genetic memory can, of course, become compounded by a lot of different factors, including ones which make it even worse.
A whole mixture of wall-to-wall ancestry has produced a creature that is resilient in mind and fluid in body. To say felines are like liquid can be taken to a quite literal extreme with these creatures, as they share their bloodlines' ability to simply move through any and all obstacles, problems and, above all, annoyances, with hardly a care. They may not be smart enough to master speech and complex thought, but they are clever enough to learn a few things here and there, such as how to open doors or use their tinny, cheep-based voices to imitate the words of their owners, especially if they feel to be particularly demanding in some aspect.
By default, they are all quite vain. The fur, no longer riddled with their parent's curse of lichen, is kept meticulous and pristine, with a sheen akin to polished stone and a softness akin to fuzzy catkins. Whether fur or stone, they polish themselves properly and abhor anyone or anything messing up a job well done. As such, they might not be ones for touch all too much, though they can certainly grow accustomed to it. Beyond that, they simply enjoy lazing in sunlight, spending most of their days resting and attended to, hardly even seeing a need to hunt for food if they can simply demand the humanoids to bring some. And the demands will be vocal.. After all, one doesn't really want to see their gem-encrusted, large, heavy feline stand in the middle of a culinary carnage scene, storeroom door open, cupboard doors wide and feed bags ripped apart, now do they?
| Spent her earlier life as a solitary queen of the mines, surrounded by animals - spare the few less intelligent (but still sentient) runic gargoyles. She didn't learn a language in her youth - even though she was capable. As such, she didn't have a name. When she happened upon Riku in the mines, he had shouted "Echo!" playfully into the tunnels and she later mimicked him, so he thought that was her name.
She is very curious and likes to study and play with every new thing she finds. Similar to how her body is ethereal and solid, light and dark, she is very bipolar. She is also very new to society and extremely sensitive to positive or negative stimulus. This means she is either very happy and playful or very mellow and depressive, and any sort of encouragement or rewarding attention will set her off into a hyper fit - while any sort of scolding or ignoring will immediately make her extremely self-conscious. | A gift from a friend of the family, Aslan is very regal in both looks and attitude. Not quite sentient, but capable of understanding speech and even mimicking it back with a few known phrases with time. He uses these phrases to persistently get what he wants such as "Riku, Food. Foooooooduh. FOOD!" in a deep growling meow sort of voice. Sort of a whine, but insistent as well. More of a demand than a request - as he knows how special he is.
And his specialness is quite useful, both in the mines and in the gardens. Not only does he seem to have a natural soft glow, but he can summon a foxfire to light the way. He can also walk through the mine walls to find any gems that may hide there - or see if something dangerous is on the other side. It seems the only thing that could make him even more useful would be to have wings - but who needs to fly in a mine, anyway? |

x FoodAllison's Creatures Astraea --- Ako Cunning: 3 Animal Average Top Speed: Same speed as object. Special Requirements: None Size Chart: 1 Power Levels: 2
Biology: "Be careful what you wish for, for wishes and curses go hand-in-hand." A magical, wish-granting being of great power is a legend as old as time itself, and though it comes through in many different versions, they all come with the very same warning - be careful.
At first one could hardly even call these crossbreeds as 'creatures', for their default state appears as nothing more than a metallic bird-shaped whistle. In this state they are, in fact, dormant, a kind of resting phase where they neither hear nor see nor feel anything beyond the item confines. Once the whistle has been sounded, however, the lovely, sweet bird-like tune summons forth their true form. Part-stone, part-flesh, all real. They are intrinsically tied to the whistles, to the point that they cannot really wander all too far away from it, the ghostly tail always attached, but at least it is not a difficult thing to carry such a small and light object. Certainly not a creature built to survive in the wild by itself, but rather specifically engineered to be a companion to humanoids.
While they have neither the empathic nor telepathic ability of other creatures, they none the less can share a certain mild connection to whoever is holding the whistle. Its a 'sense' of the person on the surface, and thus can easily be fooled by the deceitful, but also something that does not necessarily require words to get across. If they sense an owner might presently be hungry, food might magically appear before them out of thin air. If they sense the person to be cold, a warm breeze might drift in as if from a sandy desert. It is a simple kind of "needs-to-wants" based intelligence and more direct requests might be harder for the owners to get across. However, as the saying goes.. Sometimes one can't always get what one wants, but one might get what one needs. --- Kylera, Baby
