How had Ashe talked her into this? She was admittedly a little nervous as she approached the alter, looking at the pictures on the walls. She trailed her hand across the carvings, curious but a little wary. She could feel the energy in this place, like a feeling of waiting. Not dread, just expectancy, waiting for the signal to spring forward like a coil. She wrung her hands together and tried to tell herself that she was alone, but she felt surrounded. Some people might think it was scarier alone, but if you asked her, being there with beings of energy would just disrupt everything. Her pulse quickened as she walked to the alter, hesitant. This was her first true taste of power, being in an ancient place such as this, about to perform an ancient ritual. It couldn't be too hard, surely. She knew a few people that had already done this and received nodes of their own. She could do this. In fact, she would do this better than anyone else!

She walked up the steps to the alter, pausing to admire it, to fully appreciate what this place must have seen in its time. It was old, ancient, and powerful. People came here to literally capture magic into a stone, so she was sure this place had seen some things, things that might be forever embedded into these walls, this floor. Was that a blood stain? She had been warned that death was a risk - but surely that was an exaggeration? She wasn't sure. It could be, or since the magic was so powerful, it might actually be a realistic fear... She swallowed thickly, looking at the flat surface just waiting for the items she possessed to be placed in their particular places. She had with her six crystals, each thrumming with their own power, and a pretty magenta stone, and also a berry. This berry was most likely the most precious thing she would ever touch; it would help keep her alive.

Taking a deep breath, she pulled the crystals out of her bag first. She looked at them in her hands, feeling their power. They seemed to build upon each other, drawing off each other, until they were one big writhing mass of magic. It felt almost leaky to her, like the crystals weren't really contained. Was that what they did here? Simply sap the magic out of these stones and stuff it into that magenta stone she had? With a slight shrug of her shoulders - she couldn't be too bothered to think about the intricacies right now. She might mess up and forget a well rehearsed step! So one by one, she plucked a crystal out of the bunch in her hand, and placed it on the altar. She wasn't sure if there was supposed to be a pattern of some sort or if a pile would even suffice, but she found herself putting them into the six pointed star formation, quite possibly the most popular and basic. Most practical.

It wasn't until she placed the last crystal that she realized the things she had taken for draperies were actually people. One of them had moved and caught her attention. A chill shot up and down her spine, nearly paralyzing her. There were three people in here with her! Maybe that was why her senses thought she wasn't alone? Oddly, that thought soothed her and helped her to relax a little more. They were watching, and looked official, so she assumed they had something to do with this process and would not hurt her. With her pulse slowing down almost to normal, she placed the final stone on the alter, in the very center of the star she'd formed. It looked like a pretty combination, if you asked her. Next came the part she was most concerned about - more so than even the threat of death. She would have to cut herself? Cut herself enough that blood dripped out of her wound? She had never hurt herself purposely before.

"Here goes nothing..." She murmured to herself. She picked out the berry and popped it in her mouth, quickly mashing it with her teeth and swallowing it. How long did it take before the berry took effect? How long did she have to wait? If she cut now, would she be safe, or destroyed? She decided to wait sixty seconds to be sure, to let the berry work its protective barrier, then she picked up the dagger. Her hand was shaking a little bit as she held it, a slight vibration that caused the light from the moon above, filtering down through the hole in the ceiling, to glint and flash as if it was a living thing.
Alright, it's now or never. She held the dagger to her wrist - she figured that was a place that would heal easily, while offering enough blood. None of that palm nonsense. She had placed the crystals, including the mind crystal. She had eaten the berry. And now-
She gritted her teeth and dragged the sharp blade across her arm. With a soft cry, she felt the blade split her skin and blood welled up. She flipped her wrist over and dripped a drop of blood on each stone. When she was done, she took a step back, wary.
